A proud alien, a desperate widow, and a misfit family…

Temel was raised to place duty above all else. Even though the war has ended, his duty is to the warriors who need him rather than his own desires. Until he encounters a curvy, spirited female who makes him long for things he never thought to have.

After her husband’s death, Ida struggles to provide for her rebellious stepdaughter and two small children. When a huge, intimidating alien warrior rescues them from an unexpected storm, he insists on helping her. Despite her reluctance, the more time they spend together, the more she begins to care for the kind, lonely male.

But Temel has his warriors to protect and Ida has responsibilities of her own - how can he ask her to take a chance on a warrior who has nothing left to offer except his devotion?

Each book in this series features a different couple and may be read as a standalone, but the books do link together. This sweet and steamy series is intended for mature readers.

3.5 stars - I think the Dora element took away from this couple getting their moment, but as always, a well executed, satisfying sci-fi western romance

As the second book in the "How the Aliens Were Won" series, this was also pretty good! (Although, I'll admit that I was kind of confusing it with both Artek and especially Callum, as Temek does seem to be like a combination of the two.)

Ahem, but anyway, in this addition to the series, we have the widowed Ida, her son Tommy, stepdaughter Dora, and Dora's daughter Angel, all travelling to a new home because they can no longer afford to pay off rent in Wainwright. They're stranded because of a storm though, from which Temek rescues them and brings them home.

From there blossoms a natural enough relationship between two more mature people, which I was totally supporting...

...until they hit a snag in the road that just felt unnatural, contrived, forced, and out of nowhere, and therefore diminished my liking of the story. I won't give away what it was, but let's just say that there's a "just for appearances" argument at the heart of it. I mean, on the one hand, I get that even shorter alien romances have to have some kind of conflict in them to keep them interesting, but in that case, I would've either chosen a different and more realistic conflict to include, OR introduce this type of conflict a bit sooner rather than just out of nowhere at the 75% mark.

So...yeah, that's the spoiler-free version of events, anyway. Pretty good overall, but not great. We do get introduced to Dora as a heroine for the next romance and...*cringes* yeah, I'll be reading that one more for Naffon than for Dora, since so far she's seeming like quite the bitch of a character. Fingers crossed that that changes drastically in the next book, though.

After her husband's death leaves Ida (h) in financial strife, she's about to lose the rented home she lives in with her two children, Tommy and Angel, and her stepdaughter, Dora. When an opportunity to move outside of town arises, they set out on a day trip to evaluate their new possible home only to be in danger of being washed away when a storm arises. Former warrior Temel (H) is leading his former soldiers in establishing a sanctuary for them in the farming community but leaves to rescue Ida and her children when word of their emergency comes to him. Telem takes them back to the sanctuary to recover from their near drowning and finds himself drawn to Ida. She’s determined to help out and earn her way by cooking and cleaning, rather than accepting a hand out from Temel. The two are drawn to one another even as they're both trying to shoulder their responsibilities and duties - Ida with her children, and Temel with his soldiers. Ida becomes frustrated that Temel wants to keep their relationship on the down low due to his concerns about finding his own happiness before his soldiers do, and risks losing Ida. Temel was so great with Tommy, giving him the father figure that he needed. Loved having Rosie, Harkan, Borgaz, and Mary back, and it will be great getting to see each of the other aliens find love - Naffon and Dora looks to be interesting. Sweet and spicy alien-human romance with a bit of angst and lots of found family.

The FMC’s stepdaughter, Dora, was so annoying she managed to ruin the book for me. Barely managed to get through it. Definitely going to skip her book!

Fine entertainment!
Ida’s life to date has been severely lacking in the love department. I am thrilled that meeting Temel gives her a chance to experience something entirely different. They each have responsibilities that cannot be ignored, but there’s no holding these two back, they are a perfect match! This is a refreshingly heated romance with a bit of mystery toward the end that piques my interest for another story. Fine entertainment!

Sweet and sexy !!

Another visit to the old fashioned town of Wainwright, and I am Delighted !!!

Ida is a widow with three children, and finds that her husband has left her practically penniless. Even doing sewing or alterations for some of the women in town isn't much of a help on her rent !!!
She is going to need affordable housing soon.
Temel and his group of former soldiers, have found themselves owning a large plot of land just outside Wainwright. He hopes that the fresh air and hard work will do them all good since the senseless war that they fought in. A fresh start for them all !

When Ida and Temel come across each other , long awakened desires they thought long dorment give them hope for the future.
But each of them have secrets . Will they be able to explore this new situation, or fall back into old patterns ?

Gotta admit, I smiled through the reading of this book . I am always happy to be back in Wainwright. These stories are about ex military males who have been to war and back . And the wonderfully strong women of old fashioned Wainwright , where gossip is a state of life. Each woman in her own way , are just as wounded as the males. Each story different, yet part of the whole. I love how these stories weave together as the story moves forward. Love reading about old friends from previous books !! Already looking forward to the next in this series !!!

I liked the story, but Dora took a bit too much focus from the main couple.
Ida was a widow living with an adult stepdaughter Dora, six year old son Tommy and an infant daughter Angel in Wainwright. She came from a rather wealthy family, but her husband squandered all his money, her dowry and the inheritance from her father, so she was left without anything and worked her ass off to keep a roof over their heads. The rent was too high for her, so when the opportunity to move to a cheaper place outside of town emerged she took her family to check out the house. They were caught up in a storm and rescued by Temel.
Temel was a commander of a squad of warriors in the same war as Artek from the first series. When he learned from Artek that there was a place where his males could heal after the horrors of war he took the opportunity. He felt responsible for them and would do anything to help them heal. He was so determined to see to their happiness that even when he found his own he was afraid to show it, because he didn't want to hurt them.
I liked the romance between Ida and Temel. They were fine characters, with believable motivations. I found that issues with Dora took a bit too much space in this book. The girl was getting her own book, so why use the pages of her mother's romance on her issues? I'd love to read more of the talks and other interactions between the main couple not how weepy and weird Dora behavior was.

Unexpected love

I enjoyed Temel and Ida’s alien-human, fated mates, forced proximity, older MCs romance. The book had a good mix of sweet, spice, real life issues, and feels. Ida is a human widowed single mom who lives on the planet of Cresca. She is being forced out of her current housing because it is too expensive and goes to look at a local farm only to find it is not safe to live in. The farms surrounding her potential new home are being used to help alien warriors heal and move past their battle scars. Temel is an alien from Kember who was a Commander during the war and is now “in charge” of the network of farms and the warriors who will heal there. When Ida and her children are caught in a violent storm while looking at the property, Temel saves them from the rising water and brings them back to his ranch to wait until the waters recede. There is instant attraction and chemistry between Temel and Ida and he offers to allow the small family to stay. However, Ida is hesitant to make any impulsive decisions. Their relationship develops naturally as they spend time together and get to know each other. The story was well written and included characters with dimension and an engaging storyline with sweet moments, steamy scenes, alien physiology and cultures, loyal friends, painful pasts, fated mates, coincidences, light danger, and laughs. 3.5 stars.

The leader of the new group of aliens trying to find themselves again after the ending if their terrible war is up and his lady is a sweet widow with a ready-made family. Temel is quiet, careful, and has plans for all his soldiers to find their peace, but he doesn't think much about himself and what might make him happy.

As it turns out, the answer to that last part is Ida. Ida makes him happy. Ida and her son and stepdaughter and kinda-other-daughter (it's complicated). When circumstances allow him to offer Ida and her family a job and place to live, things start falling into place.

Which isn't to say things are easy. Ida's stepdaughter is not thrilled to be living with aliens (one alien in particular gets under her skin), Ida is afraid too rely to heavily on anyone after the struggle she had when her husband died, and Temel has convinced himself he has nothing to offer to someone as wonderful as Ida. That said, these two seem to gravitate toward one another constantly and they just can't keep their hands off one another when they're alone.

Which is EXACTLY what I like in a couple!

(This review is really for the whole series because, OMG, I couldn't stop reading.)

If you’re a fan of westerns with some spice and the MMC is an alien instead of human, then this is the series for you. Each of these books is about a human female who meets/pairs with one of a group of aliens who are healing from their own war wounds. They are working the land on an earth-like planet and the women are likewise trying to figure out their lives.

Initially, I wondered how many different storylines you could come up along the same theme. Well, Honey Phillips doesn’t disappoint.

Each story is as individual as the MMC and MFC that fall in love. And when I say, I couldn’t put the books (ebooks) down, I am not lying. I read through the whole series over the course of a weekend and then waited impatiently for #7 to be released in June.

Each of the characters is endearing and fallible and wounded. I found myself rooting for each and every one of them. I have the release date for number 8 in my calendar and I can hardly wait!

There really is someone for everyone. Ida and her kids are going through a rough time. This story really does depict the life of a struggling widow trying her best to care for her family. I think the author covered the despair and sober realization that, yes, there is a lower level that they are sinking to, but at least they have eachother. Temel has his own kind of family that he's trying to care for. When Temel literally saves their lives, the attraction between them builds. I didn't get Rica's attitude through most of the story, and her age is a little fuzzy, but I hope she gets a better representation in another book. I loved this one though because the characters were so relatable, and the story was easy to get into. It has some intense action, and the relationship builds up naturally and slowly, but you can feel the intensity I the building up. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series!

Good

Temel and Ida

Widowed Ida is looking for a new home with her son and stepdaughter, when a sudden storm leaves them stranded.
Temel has always born responsibility for those under his care, and hearing that some travellers might need help sends him out to their rescue.
Ida is happy to be rescued by the big, blue alien, but can they allow their attraction to go further?

This is the second story in the series, and features the head alien of this new rescue operation!
Temel is a male who feels responsible for the males under his command, and he is determined to try and get them enjoying life again.
Ida has seen some tough times, but she is a loving and giving woman who might just be what Temel needs.
Enjoy some cameo appearances from the Seven Brides series, as well as the book before this one, in this sweet and sexy alien romance. Honey Phillips fans, as well as SFR with alien hero fans will enjoy this read.

On the brink of losing her o my home a light at the end if the tunnel shines and she's offered a fixer upper. Ida and Temel make a great couple! They both have unhappy pasts, but once they meet, the future is looking bright…and spicy! Each has responsibilities they need to juggle so they can be together, and that juggling gets complicated. Who hasn’t experienced a moment where you wonder if you can juggle all of the situations life throws at you? Found families are a constant in a Honey Phillips’ book, and no one handles them better! As Temel says, “That means you have lots of love to go around.” As someone who is part of a found family, I appreciate how authentically she treats these situations! Is everything smooth and easy? Not at all, but that makes it even more relatable. Luckily, Ida and Temel get their happily ever after, and it is worth the journey! The next book is about Naffon and Dora, and I can’t wait to see Naffon jump through hoops to win Dora’s heart!

This was a fun story. The angsty plot points were fun to see play out. I really enjoyed this couple because it was not just them. Temel had his warriors to consider and he is managing a lot. Ida is a strong female lead that takes care of her family, but finds herself in a bad situation. In addition, I loved seeing Drakkar make an appearance! (I love Honey's winged characters.)

Reasons you should read this book:
**He falls first. A favorite trope!
**Proximity vibe. She needs him to help her. Temel swoops in!
**Temel is sensitive and caring, but formidable.
**You did a great job of building the tension and then turned up the spice!
**Great supporting characters and a message of found family. (Love that!)

If you like a spicy "how the west was won" vibe with an alien twist, then you have to read this book AND this series! There's more to come... 4 stars and 3 spicy emojis

Ida, a widow, along with her children are going to check out their new home when a massive storm strands them in water. Temel, as the leader of his soldiers, is notified of a problem with a family out in this storm so he goes to rescue them and just in time. They go back to his farmhouse. Ida wants to pay Temel for his kindness and cooks for him and his soldiers. He is drawn to Ida immediately which prompts him to offer Ida a job of cooking and cleaning for him and his soldiers but he can't seem to stop his growing feelings for Ida. Temel is great with Ida's son Tommy as well as Dora and Angel. They finally admit to themselves and each other of their strong feelings for each other and find their happiness together. This is a delightful romance with just the right amount of spice and sweetness.

I love this series. Each story / journey to find their true mate is unique and heartfelt. Temel is the commander of the newest group of aliens. He feels he doesn't deserve to find happiness first. I love all of the ways Ida tries to convince him otherwise. They are perfect for each other.
Ida of course has her own problems to solve. She has to think of Dora and her secret. And then Tommy and his rambunctious behavior.
Meeting each other was the best fate for both of them.
Well written, I loved that the story also included past characters. And how Ida helped them as well.
Perfect HEA, also the epilogue has a glimpse of the next to find their HEA.

well done!

This story was very well done. I like that it was not rushed, and we got the complete story in just under 200 pages. Loved Temel and Ida’s romantic story. And I like that it was not a repetition of the X warrior commander feeling inadequate, or undeserving of a mate as was the case in all, or rather most of the past stories in this series. A lot of questions were left on, answered like who was the person that Tommy drew in his picture that was up in the trees? And what secret is it that DORA is keeping? I suppose these questions will be answered in the next novel in this series. I I am eagerly anticipating, the next book which will probably be DORA and Neffon’s story. This one was five star. Awesome!

This was such an amazing read, second chances for some but new beginnings for all. Still recovering from her loss, Ida is forced to make some drastic changes for herself and her family.

Temel, a former commander who will do anything for his men, putting their needs above his own, until now.

An Instant connection forms between Ida and Temel and the bond that makes this family whole. Passion ignites and their fires burn out of control in the most addictive way. 💜🔥🔥

Wonderful characters and story. Looking forward to Dora's story next!.

Loved the storyline and all the characters within. Neither Temel nor Ida is looking for a relationship but when he rescues her and her children after a storm, the attraction can not be ignored. Her family is in dire financial crisis and Temel and his men offer them living arrangements in exchange for housekeeping services. It’s a well written story that shows the love that develops between Temel and Ida. Her young son Tommy is a typical five-year-old and is a great addition to the story. I enjoyed the story and would highly recommend it.

The heroine's stepdaughter had sex outside of wedlock and got pregnant. She begged her mother to claim the baby as hers since her mother was just widowed and it would not be a scandal.

So now the stepdaughter is upset because she has to keep up the pretense. Her mother offers to explain to everyone but daughter says no. She is very dramatic and cries a lot and I just had trouble reading her parts of the story.

Temel

Found family times two. I adore more mature love stories and this was the perfect example of why. It’s nice to read about younger people finding someone special, but it’s so much more rewarding to me to read about a second chance (or sometimes a first chance) at finding someone that brings joy to the characters life.

Temel was everything I had hoped he would be- stoic but sweet and giving. Ida was a great strong female that was the perfect balance for him. Tommy was adorable and Dora! Oh I can’t wait for her book.

As always this author knocks it out of the park. The book is light on angst, high on sweetness and just right on spice.

Temel was another fun Honey Phillips book that I devoured like a pringle. Temel is a former leader who is trying to make a better life for his band of soldiers, much like Artek in the original series. His brothers laughingly call him a mother hen. Ida has had a lot of responsibility for herself, her son, and her daughter(s). She is rescued from a dangerous situation by Temel and it is a (mostly smooth) slide into love from there. Lots of hints were given in this one about our next couple so I will most likely start that story sooner than later. I appreciated the maturity of these characters and am really liking the way that Honey Phillips writes alien romances.

This is Book 2 of How the Aliens Were Won starring human female Ida and Alien Temel. Oh my this one will have you blushing and laughing, I have to say I was worried about Dora and hope her story is the next one. This one has some mystery to the tale but that is all Dora and not Ida and Temel. I loved how this love match went and could not stop reading this one. I think it ended to soon but that just keeps me reaching for the next book to start.

Perfect addition

Man have I been enjoying this world! Honey Phillips has done a fantastic job of continuing to add characters and story lines to the existing universe without repeating the same old same old over and over again. I am particularly excited about the idea of one or more of the new aliens that are being added being a female who falls for a human man. I know that has never been mentioned in any of the other books, but if feels like something that would be a great addition!

This is book 2 in the series, I would recommend reading in order for maximum enjoyment but it can be read as a stand alone. This book is about the couple Temel and Ida. Ida lost her husband and she has to move out of the house they lived in and she takes her step daughter and son and Dora’s baby. She and temel meet when he rescues them from a flood/rain storm. The attraction was instant and temel just knew she was his mate. HEA. Highly recommend!!.

love these stories

These stories are chock filled with heroes who have been to war and now want peace. They are settled outside of a town called Wainwright, that is modeled after much earlier times. Very moralistic values and sometimes that becomes a bit cruel to people namely widows who remain in town. Meeting Temel and the other Aliens who are renovating the farms is a great opportunity and lucky for them they are very different from others they’ve know. These are truly HEA books and I look forward to reading the next one in this series.

"...the limitation on touching had also encouraged them to talk."

Temel is a Commander whose men are his chosen family. Can he manage the art of work home balance, and care for his chosen family and a family of his own?

Ida has her hands full, and her rent is going up. It's time to make some tough decisions as she cares for her family the best way she can.

This done in one Kindle unlimited book focuses on the hard choices we make as we care for those we love and protect, and reveals the magic of finding someone who understands and wants to be a part of that life.
