The Becoming is a novella of approximately 55 pages (13,700 words). It is the first book in a 4-novella paranormal romance series.
You know it’s true, Abby. You are just afraid to face the facts, and probably a little confused. But this is who you are. Every word is true.
Abby's life is just beginning. It is the time of her college graduation, and she has become an accomplished chef and a lovely young woman. Little does she know, she is about to face a whole new phase of her life—and an entirely different “becoming”.
When tragedy strikes, Abby is driven to return to her hometown of Salem, Massachusetts, despite her avoiding the area due to a childhood accident that has left her scarred. Rising up from the tragedy, Abby finds herself faced with compelling reasons to settle down permanently in Salem. As if this decision weren't overwhelming enough, Abby finds herself having memory lapses, fighting off the strange mayor of the town, and continuing a confusing romance with Jake, a love she had left behind when she went off to college.
As the pieces begin to come together, things only become more confusing and challenging for Abby. She discovers a supernatural side of herself she didn't even believe in, and she must learn to adapt quickly when a great evil threatens Salem. Can Abby harness her newly-found abilities while navigating the extreme tides of change and mysterious forces that are overrunning her life?

Larissa Ladd is a dreamer with insights fresh as the frost newly formed on the twig whose snap echoes through the moonlit forest.

Alpha Hybrid: The Becoming is the first of four novellas in the Cavern of Light series. This little book has been on my Nook for some time now and I finally decided to read it. Now I am popping myself in the side of the head saying, “Why in the world did I wait so long!”
It is graduation day for Abigail Bishop. She is graduating from Iowa State University with a Culinary Arts degree. But what should have been the best day of her life turned out horribly different. She received news that would change the course of her life forever. So she is forced to head back to Salem, Massachusetts to the home of her Aunt and Uncle. After her arrival, though, strange things begin to happen. Her hair seems to grow two inches a night. And there are lapses in her memory. Not to mention Mayor Corwin who keeps showing up at the cabin and he makes her very uncomfortable. The good thing is reuniting with the guy who she has always had a crush on, Jake Cooper, and her best friend, Dorrie.
There are secrets here in Salem. Secrets of her heritage. Secrets of what she is destined for. The question is whether she will embrace this knowledge or turn away from it. Or will she even have a choice?
This little book was so short but it grabbed me on the first page and I found myself rushing through it. I instantly fell in love with the characters and was immersed in their world. Will I be continuing on with the series…try and keep me away. I’m so glad I finally read this and have found a new author that I absolutely love.
Witches and werewolves and magical surprises, oh my! Abby has her life’s dreams at her feet, she is graduating college and opening her own business someday is the young chef’s goal. I really enjoyed this book. It’s started very strong and I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. The characters are well written and likeable. Great performance from Katherine
I received a copy of this from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book in a 4-novella series. If I had known that, I never would have requested to read it. I don’t like serials. I like my HEA in one book. That being said, this was a very nice little read. Abby’s has moved to her hometown of Salem after the tragedy of losing her aunt and uncle, the only family she had left. She moves into their house and starts to experience weird things. She keeps waking up naked in her bed when her last memory the night before is running. Then there’s the Mayor, who wants her land, and Jake, whom she’s very attracted to. Can Abby figure out what’s happening?
I did enjoy reading about Abby’s adventures in this book. I also found it to be a little too vague in places. I did like the ending. It wrapped up nicely while enticing you to read more. At this point I’m not sure if I’ll continue to read the series.
This book is a very fast read. It felt like it was over right after I got started reading it. But it packs quite a lot into that small space. It was an intriguing introduction to a series that promises all of the paranormal elements that I love. The characters felt well developed, which I was surprised at given the shortness of this book.
There are a few editing flaws, but nothing that takes away from the story as a whole. I was easily able to overlook them and get lost in this story. This isn't the first book that I've read by Larissa Ladd, and I hope it isn't the last. I've grown to really enjoy her writing style and characters.
**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to Larissa Ladd.
This book was tiny so it only took me less than a hour to read. This book included Light witches and were wolves. I have to admit that when I found out there was werewolves, I thought Twilight. I did not enjoy Twilight. This was a good way of doing werewolves. Though I wished she had not made the romance so insta-love because it was kind of cheesy. I like the concept of it, but I felt like the writing was really rushed. I wished that it was either longer or slower. I hope that there will be more books because I like the storyline. The whole Salem witch trials subject intrigues me , so I hope she adds more to the series and I hope those books are longer. I would recommend this for anyone who refuses to read werewolf books because of Twilight.
Anytime I get a chance to read something that reminds me that I will never grow up, I say "Yea." The powerful combo of werewolf and witch makes for a sweet storyline. Although I agree with others who commented that the story wound up too quickly, there is more coming from our author and I have lots of patience. Romance, magic, surprise. I'll be back for more. My thanks to the author and LibraryThing for sharing a complimentary copy.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a short (read it in one sitting) read that is about a were-witch. I love the paranormal stories and this does a great job of pulling the reader in and maintaining the attention throughout the book. It did end rather quickly but I hope that this is only the beginning.
This was the first time I've ever read this genre, and I didn't know what to expect. The story line slowly lures you in, until you get to the point that you won't be able to put the book down!! The tail-end is a bit of a nail biter. This is a great book to get your feet wet with the supernatural.
This was a nice short but good and detailed story.
Their are some typos that are not difficult to decipher.
Their is a "time gap" from one chapter to another that jumps scenes quickly with no explanation. I thought maybe the edition I had was missing something, but I think it was just the story.
Pretty good book. I wish the romance would have been played up a little more so there would be moments when we could see them falling in love. It was just a synopses of a couple of weeks of dating and then "I'm in love". Besides that, I thought the book was good and well worth a read.
This book was really good I enjoyed it right up to where they were taken and went to the cavern of lights then it got very exciting. I liked the way the first book ended . Great.
This was a different twist on the werewolf tale. The first were-witch. Although it was a decent tale, it felt too rushed and you really didnt get a good background of the characters at all.
I was given a copy of Cavern Light through LibraryThing for an honest review. I did enjoy the story, but it was entirely too short, and it felt rushed.
For me the book was just okay. Storyline seemed rushed and not developed in some areas. I was left with many questions thru-out the book. Not sure I'm going to read anymore in this series or not.
