I should have been worried when Clive Cussler said the author was good given the formulaic rubbish he churns out. The book is not bad but at 500 pages, it’s about 150 pages too long. There is too much detail. It’s never “he picked up his rifle”, it’s always the exact model down to the serial number, the same with grenades, radios, everything. I’m at the point where the heroes have done well but there’s 200 pages to go! I have a policy of always finishing a book once I start it but this is going to be a struggle!
