We stand on the brink of a double rescue mission, a plan so foolhardy that even our bravest men are quaking inside with fear. Storm the capitol, free the prisoners, don’t get killed. It seems like a suicide mission, but not a single one of us has anything to lose. In my past life, I was a scoundrel; a drug peddling street thug who cared nothing for anyone because I had no one to care for me. The nuclear blasts of 4006 reminded me of the value of life, and a girl with the saddest eyes I’ve ever gazed into gave me someone to care for. Now, as we embark on our most dangerous enterprise, I can only hope that we make it out alive and that those we have lost can be recovered. Foolishness… fear… hope… These are the elements that threw our revolution into motion. As the momentum of the Resistance continues to build, we can only pray that hope continues grow larger than our fear.
Mother of 3 and Army wife. Lover of coffee, chocolate and good books. Writer of YA Fantasy that stretches the imagination. When not writing, I can usually be found reading.
The second book in the Bionics series, Titanium, is all about Dax. Blythe's best friend. The story is from his point of view and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Dax is a great guy to be inside his head.
This time around there is more action and fighting. A lot of hot kissing too. But mostly action. It was nice to see the Resistance army fighting against the government. This book picks up exactly after Bionics ends. The Resistance is about to go on a double mission to save some Bionics prisoners who will be executed soon.
I loved this book. Dax is...well Dax. He is pretty awesome. I totally root for him and Blythe, although I believe I will get disappointed at the end. Anyways, it was still great to be inside his head and finally learn his story. Now, on to the next book.
***THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN UPDATED BECAUSE IT SEEMED INCOMPLETED AND DID NOT DO THE SERIES JUSTICE. THIS IS A COMPLETE LOOK AT THE SERIES AS A WHOLE.
The Bionics Series is a group of short (120-150 pages) stories meant to be read as a group. This is not a stand alone book. In order to fully understand and comprehend the reader needs to read the series in order. Each book is told in a different characters POV. In doing so the author gives you a unique understanding of all sides. Honestly from the synopsis I didn’t think I would like this book. Sci Fi, dystopian type books are not my genre, but Bionics surprised me. The series is based on a group of outcasts called the Bionics. The US Government who made them after the horrific bombings that shattered the land and its people, has now turned against them and sees the Bionics as a threat. Due to the mechanics of having titanium legs, bionic eyes and Kevlar skin the government is scared that with the Bionics physical superiority they may take over. The Government declares that all Bionics must be destroyed thus making the Bionics fugitives on the run. The Government also runs false propaganda against them to turn the "normal people" against them. The Bionics as a whole are not a violent people and want to live normally as they did before. Striving to maintain their way of life the Bionics are forced to live in refuge camps in hiding. Teams go out in search of others like them and bring them back to city they have created. This is a great series that showcases the heart of the human spirit. It shows us that our differences are what make us who we are and that those differences should be embraced and not ridiculed or punished.
Bionics (Book 1)
In Book 1 the reader is introduced to the Resistance. A group of Bionics that strive to be accepted and live in a world that shuns them. The main character, Blythe, is well developed. You feel her struggles and the reader connects to her story. Blythe saw her family gunned down because they refused to turn her over to the Military Police to be destroyed. She fights the demons inside her daily and with the help of her friend, Dax, she copes. Her salvation is in finding and rescuing others like her.
It is a well written opening book. You do have to read Book Two to finish the story.
Titanium (Book 2)
Book 2, Titanium, picks up immediately where Book 1 ended so you will not be disappoint. There is not a recap so you need to read the series in order. Again, I have to say that this is not my genre but the author, Alicia Michaels, does an excellent job of painting a canvas of a post apocalyptic world that sucks me in every time. I am compelled to complete this series.
Book 2 is written from the view point of Dax. We get his shady back story and well as a gruff look at the Resistance and their plan to rescue the hostages and other Bionics by storming the Capital. The romance that he wants between himself and Blythe is explored in Book 2 also. Don’t be fooled. This is no sappy love story. The action and suspense grips all pages. You won’t be able to put this book down. Once again we end with a conflict so moving on to Book 3 is a must!
Secrets (Book 3)
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Alicia Michaels and her Bionics Series. These stories play out in my head like a television series. Mrs. Michael’s vivid descriptions of the post bombed U.S. and the part human, part machine Bionics comes alive in my imagination. I am so glad I gave this series a shot. I haven’t been able to put it down.
Secrets is action packed just like the books before it. This installment is told form the POV of Gage. There is never a dull moment in this series. Gage, Dax, Blythe, the Professor, and others stage a rescue for Olivia and other Bionics from the prison in Washington D.C. Of course dangers and unexpected chaos arises. The team gets separated and receives aid from a very unlikely source, The Rejects. This doesn’t come without a price. As the title suggests, secrets are revealed and lives are changed forever. I cannot wait to pick up Spark and continue this storyline!
Spark (Book 4)
In the fourth installment of The Bionics Series, Spark picks up with the Resistance battling the Rejects as well as battling the negative propaganda perpetrated by the Government. This installment is told from the POV of Blythe. Blythe has endured a lot in the previous books and you really see her come out in this book. Without giving away spoilers, get ready to see the kick ass side of Blythe as she emerges into a warrior in the battle against the Rejects. The Resistance also gets some unlikely help from a former Army Corporal. Look for something that Gage said back in Book 3 to create a “spark” in book 4.
As I have said in previous reviews of this series, I didn’t think I would like it but wanted to give the author a shot. This has been a great, exciting, fast paced series. I am now in the midst of a book hangover until another installment is released
I was given this book by the author for an honest review.
Book 2 in The Bionics series picks up where the first left off, as The Resistance is about to engage in a daring mission that could potentially cost them more lives than they could save. A couple of surprises and a scary revelation leaves two members of The Resistance behind to guard a group of Bionics, including a band of scary rebels that are ready to take the law into their own hands, endangering everything The Resistance stands for. But the two left behind to stand guard have their own battle to fight, and the love triangle that forms aligns two bionics fighting for the same prize on a mission to save the ones left behind.
Oh, the good things I can say about this book! For starters, the quality of the author’s writing style continued in this book, if not improved. It was beautifully written, and easy to read, which is something that can be a huge distraction in books written without the talent this author exhibits.
The tension in this book is so thick it could be cut with a knife. There is a sense of humor, a very intense love triangle, sexual tension, and some really phenomenal action. The author did a fantastic job of bringing the reader into the story so you felt the emotional roller coaster as you read along. I’m not a fan of action by any stretch of the imagination, but this was very well choreographed and very well written. You can tell the author was thinking many steps ahead, planning everything out, and ensuring all the loose ends were tied up, making the story whole, complete, and very well rounded.
What I really appreciated probably more than anything else was when we finally got to hear a little more about Dax and Blythe’s background, and the creation of the Resistance. Getting to hear what it was like and how they met not only gives you insight as to the tension between them, but also lets you get inside their heads and really get to know them. It was a very big addition to the story, and much needed.
I really don’t have any suggestions for the author to improve, other than please get that third book available soon, because I am simply dying to read it! This book has one heck of a cliffhanger that has me on edge and anxious to find out what happens next, especially with Gage and the teaser in the end. I give this book 5/5 stars-hands down a book that I’ll reread and recommend.
I received this book from the author to give an honest review. We pick up right where book one left off. It is full of some action and of course a love triangle. Feelings will arise in this book and we will truly know how Dex feels for Blythe. We are going to get Dex's point of view throughout the story which is amazing. And then we also get a little into the insight of how he became a Bionic, which I thought was pretty cool. Hopefully we get to get more insight on the other main characters and how they became Bionic's as well.
New characters will come into place such as the Rejects, as you read you will learn why they are called that.
The M.P.'s have captured some Bionics and of course the Resistance is coming to the rescue, but trouble hits and lives are lost, along with one Dex's closest friend being captured alive and is being held for execution the following morning. A plan will take place one that could cost the Resistance everything. Where this book left off has me wanting more. I want to know if their plan will work. There is a new twist in this book and I want to find out the truth about Gage! What is his true story in all of this. The story came together greatly, and of course you still fall in love with the characters.
My favorite quote in this book was when Dex describes his feelings for Blythe.
"Loving her is like holding the stem of a rose tightly in your fist. The thorns might prick and tear my skin, but I can't let go because the beauty of the bud has me entranced." Now Dex should really tell Blythe in these exact words how he feels! Because let me tell you I would so fall head over heels if I was told this.
Disclaimer: I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Here we have the next installment following "Bionics," and it picks up right where the first left off: from Dax's point of view. I can't tell you how much I wanted to hear his thoughts and feelings after reading that epilogue!! He, Blythe, and Gage, along with the rest of the leading players, are gearing up to rescue the other Resistance members who were taken over by the MP's in the first installment. They plan a dual attack, one team heading to the prison where members are being kept in D.C., the others heading toward the Resistance stronghold in Tennessee. Blythe and Dax head to TN, and we see everything from Dax's perspective, from taking over as a leader to his feelings for Blythe and issues with Gage. This was such an awesome continuation of the series, and it leaves off with our characters in a very interesting situation..... =)
My favorite quote: "Loving her is like holding the stem of a rose tightly in your fist. The thorns might prick and tear my skin, but I can't let go because the beauty of the bud has me entranced."
Titanium is book 2 in the Bionics series. This book is mainly told from Dax's side of the story. I like the fact that Alicia Michaels writes her male characters to be manly. I know, sounds like it'd be easy, but I''ve read books written by female authors that the men really do "sound" like girls. And Dax is far from being girly! With bionic legs and a friend he not only cares for as a team member but as a best friend and someone he cares very deeply for. Things have gone wrong during a rescue of other bionics and they are now trapped behind enemy lines. They need the people they are trying to save to help them all get out alive. As with every mission they don't like to kill people, that is a problem for a group of the Bionics that are modifying themselves, they take out who ever gets in their way. Can the two groups find a way to work together? And will Dax ever find out if Blythe feels the same feelings for him that he feels for her? I won't spoil that for you! Read the book and find your answers!
Titanium by Alicia Michaels This book picks up from where Bionics left off. This book is packed full of action and sexual desire it is very hard to put down. It first tells the story of how Dax became a Bionic and what happened the the world. Dax and friends try to rescue as many of the Bionics as they can from the MP. They encounter a none Bionic man named Gage who is out to protect his sisters child as he promised he would and she is very special to the group. Later a terrible battle takes place as they try to recuse to groups at the same time held in to different prisons and run into all kinds of trouble Dax does not like Gage can cannot decide if he is on there side or a spy but Gage helps the crew in fighting.
I really enjoyed this sequel to The Bionics! Couldn't put this story down until the last page was read, but I am craving more! I enjoyed the characters and the world created in these stories! Definitely recommend this story!
Titanium was more about chaos, adventure, and action than the first book in the series. We are introduced to another possible enemy and more intense courting when it comes to love. I look forward to continuing the story.
Book 2 in The Bionics series starts off with a bang and just keeps going. This book moved along at a much quicker pace than the first one and I'm really glad that I continued reading the series. Defiantly going to be reading the 3rd book to find out what happens next.
This book is trash, and not worth reading. It is a word for word identical to the last part of the first book, Bionics. I am so upset about this book that I have put Alicia Michaels on my do not read author list. There are not very many on this list, but she is at about the top just behind David Weber. His last four books I was unable to finish they were so bad, but she is publishing the second book in the series that is identical to book 1. That is not forgivable.
I am reviewing this series as a whole, because I read them back to back in a week's time. The Bionics 8/27, Titanium 8/28, Secrets 8/30, Spark 9/1, & Flame 9/2.
Once I began this series I could not put it down. If it hadn't have been for my kids getting sick immediately followed by two birthday parties I would have finished it a few days earlier. LOLz
Where to begin...These 5 books are are fairly short, but do not be fooled...they are full of awesomeness! Book 1 was sort of Blythe's story along with an introduction to everything this "family" has survived so far. A great beginning to a fast paced story that quickly proved one of my favorites. Book 2 was more of Dax's story which I fell for in Book 1, & was rooting for him from then on. In Book 3 we get a much deeper story for Gage (who, by now I am totally falling for), & by Book 4 I am totally pissed at all of them! They now have me completely wrapped up in their world & it is so intense between the war, politics, romances, secrets, "bromances", hate filled fury, & heart string pulling emotions.
These characters are full of depth & layers that slowly wither away allowing us to grasp their inner awesome one small glimpse at a time. The first connection I made was with Blythe. She is hard & shut of from everyone except for a very few who she trusts over all others. I quickly felt connected to her through Michael's emotional retelling of her past & the amazing woman she becomes. Dax, faithful to the end, is stuck between being the BFF & the love of a lifetime. I am pulled in two different directions as Gage is now thrust into our midst & demanding our attention. Alas, Love is always just out of arm's reach during this battle filled time. And just when I fear that no one will break through that wall Blythe has put up we are smack in the middle of a heart-breaking "What If" moment. It gets real interesting real quick with all of the new characters & action added to the mix. I easily found so many endearing qualities in each of the new additions. The Professor, Jenica, Agata, Laura, Tamryn, Baron, & even Monkey Arms playing such crucial parts in this tale! I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys dystopian, military, end-of-world type books, freedom fighting, paranormal, romance, or any mix there of!! http://jenisbookshelf.blogspot.com/20...
After a series of nuclear bomb detonations in America, many citizens were killed or critically injured. In order to help the victims, the government sanctioned the Healing Hands Initiative which provided the victims with bionic additions to replace missing limbs or heal damaged tissue. These range from a bionic arm or leg to part of a bionic brain to even a near full replacement of the skin with Kevlar. However, after the initiative, the government decides the "Bionics" are a danger and start rounding the people up to remove the parts. However, since this may mean death (and it will for a great many), the "Bionics" go into hiding. Then eventually start fighting back. This is the story of the resistance. In the second part of the series, we follow Blythe, Dax, Gage and a many others in the Resistance. They have rescued a large group of Bios but some of their group have been captured and are scheduled to be executed the next day.
A good second installment to the series. I like the characters and the story line. I am interested in some of the back stories of the other characters and would like to know more about what bionic parts they have and why. I've said it before, but I'm not crazy about love triangles (or love stories in dystopian fiction) but I guess they are here to stay...I will just skip those parts of the story as they do nothing to further my interest. Overall, again, this is a good series and I look forward to more from this author.
**full review coming soon** this picked off where book one ended. There is no recap so you really do need to read these in order.
The Bionic is a series of book that you really need to read in succession. I have never read dystopian before and I wasn't really sure just what to expect or even if I would enjoy it. But I was really pleasantly surprised and I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the concept that the series is about.
One thing I loved was how each book is told by one characters point of view, it gives you a better idea of them and what the are personally facing a midst all the civil unrest.
As each book concentrates on one characters POV you get a better connection with them this way, not that I didn't instantly connect with th from the start, but hearing their own story about how the Restoration Project came to change their life -for better and for worse - you get a better understanding as to what life is like for them as a bionic.
The way that Alicia Mitchell's describes the post apocalyptic world, and the bionic enhancements that the characters have has you instantly imagining it clearly in your head.
These were a great series of books and I really enjoyed the genre, definitely will be checking out more of the dystopian and post apocalyptic genre.
Dax is bionic, he lost both of his legs during the nuclear war and was “restored” with titanium legs. He had grown up struggling…selling drugs and doing whatever he could to get back. That all changed the day he met Blythe. Blythe made him realize that there is more to him and life than the one he has been living. From that day on Dax is a changed man, taking care of Blythe after rescuing her from getting captured by the Miliary police.
Dax is a strong man, both physical and emotionally. He takes care of those whom he loves and still is able to go out daily to help rescue others like him….people who are bionic and are running/hiding for their lives. In Titanium, you are now reading this from Dax’s point of view. In this story, you learn more about him, his feelings toward Blythe and his struggles with trying to keep those a secret from her. Definitely a great continuation of the first book and I can’t wait for the third one to learn more about Gage.
This second half of the story is written in Dax's point of view which I was liking better than Blythe's. The government created the cyborg or bionic children and now they want them destroyed. The resistance group of bios are running around trying to stay alive. I think this book was a bit better than the first one. More of the back story is explained. The writing is good and again it is a quick read. I think the third book must be from Gage's point of view since of the epilogue written in his point of view. I think that these books would have been better combined as part 1, part 2 and part 3 instead of broken up because this is definitely the middle of a bigger piece. This book ends on a cliffhanger right when I am starting to enjoy it. The plot thickens a lot with Gage's epilogue. 3 stars.
The Bionics is an interesting series, but is chopped up into small segments. This segment is told from the view of a different character, and told well. I would have really enjoyed having the story told in one book rather then chopped up into less than 90 pages per character.
