Marian Wells was born in Utah. She is the well-known author of eleven books, including two novels based on thorough historical research into the beginnings of Mormonism. Marian and her husband live in Boulder, Colorado.
I found this story of the original missionaries in the gold rush West very interesting. As a parson's daughter, Amy had to choose to make her spirituality her own; not just adopt her father's relationship with God. I loved the way she questioned her upbringing, the hellfire and brimstone teaching, and kept searching until she found the answers she needed.
The fact that this took place in "Denver City" and surrounding areas in an as-yet unnamed Colorado just made it even more interesting to this Colorado native. Apparently, one of the names considered for my state was "Idahoe"!
Like all of Marian Wells' books (well, the ones I've read, anyway), the love story is touching and sweet, and you're pulling for the couple the whole time.
This excellent read took me to the Gold Rush days and to the bible, in the day of missionaries. Amy was a ministers daughter that had to find out for herself that she needed the bible and not other peoples choices made for her.
