This book puts suffering into perspective as the author discusses his time in a a Nazi concentration camp. He discusses what gives humans hope and meaning from the unique perspective of having been a part of a group that had all earthly possessions and status away.

"For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself.”
