Lake Spark Inn #2

Should Have Run

Rate this book
Holden is older and a single dad. And due to a favor owed from his hockey days, he's the man I just moved in with…

The moment I walked into the office as the new interior designer for the man my dad used to coach, I knew trouble loomed. Holden is a retired hockey player who now owns a hotel. He’s also trying to balance his single-dad life. Against all better judgment, when he has a crisis with his kids, I end up moving my suitcase into his guest room due to an old favor I owe. I didn't expect to be adding nanny to my resume, but it leads me and Holden into our own secret little world.

Where we give in, and we can’t seem to stop.

Lust takes over, and the bond between us grows stronger. Holden might be conflicted by his allegiance to his old team rules and devotion to his kids, but a glimpse of something special nearly tears him apart. Now we’re stuck at a crossroads. Because Holden is looking at me with a realization that a future for us may be too big of a jump. I see it on his face that he thinks we're in too deep, and if he could go back in time before the lines were crossed between us, that’s probably when he should have run…

Holden and Lexi bring the feels and steam in this age-gap, forced-proximity, single-dad love story. Should Have Run is the second standalone book in the small-town Lake Spark Inn series, which is part of the Lake Spark world.

Evey writes heartwarming romances with steamy moments, often in small-town settings with an element of sports. An American from the Midwest, she now lives in a tiny country in Europe where it rains a lot. That is probably why she occupies her days typing away on her laptop with music on repeat and slow-roast coffee nearby. Oh, and she vows to never break up with cake.

I know I'll never get tired of Lake Spark and its inhabitants, but sadly I couldn't connect with Lexi and Holden
.
Maybe it was all too insta lust/love, but as always Evey Lyon managed to capture my attention until the end
.
Holden is a retired hockey player and part owner of the local inn Dizzy Duck hotel, and after a long time he is determined to give it a refresh.
That's where Lexi comes in, newly qualified as a decorator and ready to show that she can do a good job, even when it's for Holden, her dad's old teammate and to whom she always felt attracted.
.
But seeing him in the chaos of his home as a single father of two teenagers makes her change her mind a little, and it is not until Holden pulls out his old I.O.U letter and finds herself in charge of helping him with his children that she begins to see the possibility of something more
.
Of course there are conflicts halfway through and they must overcome the emotional walls that each one has before reaching the perfect ending.
.
There are the good parts, the fun parts and the romantic parts that make you want to visit Lake Spark and see the characters in person.
.
Thanks to Even Lyon for give me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange of my honest and voluntary opinion

Now that his hockey career has come to an end Holden has redirected his attention towards renovating the hotel in Lake Spark with his partners. When he decides to engage the daughter of his coach to lead the interior design, he never expected how difficult it would be to deny his attraction for her especially when she also becomes his roommate and nanny to his two kids.

The opportunity to be part of the renovation of the hotel is a career opportunity she can’t pass by. As they spend time together the feelings between are inevitable especially when she finds herself staying in his home and helping him with his children.

There are so many reasons why Holden and Lexi don’t believe they should be together and challenges they must overcome but the way that she fits in his lie and his children’s life shows that the only place they belong is with each other.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book, provided by WordSmith PR. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lake Spark is my fantasy vacation destination, and I would LOVE to stay at the Dizzy Duck Inn. Unfortunately, I wasn't all that fond of Lexi, and I wish I could pinpoint why. I dunno. I loved Holden, but I have a thing for single dads haha I kinda felt like their relationship was rushed. I dunno. It was instant attraction, but it just felt like the literal interpretation of wham, bam, thank you ma'am. I didn't really feel much for them as a couple, like being drawn to each other or whatever. It was strange.

The way Lexi interacted with Holden's kids was great, and of course the angst of his ex showing up. Overall, the book was a good one, but that one small detail just stuck out to me. Still adore Lake Spark and want to live there haha!

Evey Lyon has done it again!
Lake Spark is one of my favourite small towns and Evey’s characters are always adorable.
Lexi is so cute and fiesty. Holden honest and direct. Their banter is brilliant and had me laughing often. His children add to the humour and the realism.
The story has a wonderful and captivating plot with a couple of dating twists, a lot of flirting, great chemistry, some heartbreak, a range of emotion, steam and a perfect HEA.

Thank you to the author and Wordsmith Publicity.

I love all the Lake Spark books so looked forward to reading it. I enjoyed reading this but struggled a bit with Holden at the start - his attitude and how he treated Lexi was hard to get onboard with and I wasn’t sure I liked him. Lexi was strong but gave into Holden too easily. I did like the story as not a typical nanny type story which was good and I liked the family dynamic and the spice was good. Holden became a bit more likeable as the story went on and overall this was a fun read and can be read standalone so worth a read even if you haven’t read any others. The teaser for the 3rd book looked great.

I have also listened to the audiobook for this book and it’s really good and really brings the characters to life.

5 Star Review Should Have Run (Lake Spark Inn) by Evey Lyon

I was excited to read Should Have Run which is ex hockey play and single dad Holden and Lexi’s story and it was a good addition to the series.

This was a well written, entertaining, story with characters who you cannot help but become invested in. However it is Holden’s children Harry and Lori that almost steal the book right out from under our couple.

Lexi is the interior designer he hires for the The Dizzy Duck Inn (I just love the name). The chemistry sizzles between them and it was entertaining to watch as their relationship developed. Neither of them was looking for love, but fate works in mysterious ways.

The second book in the Lake Spark Inn series, this book is part of Evey Lyon’s Lake Spark world of interconnected series, but you could easily read it as a standalone. It’s a small town, close proximity, single Dad romance, and it’s a sweet read.

Holden is an ex-NHL player, and now a divorced single dad to two kids, running an inn in Lake Spark. He’s hired a designer to help him overhaul the place, and she just happens to be the daughter of his old hockey coach. Lexi is much younger than Holden, but she’s bold and sassy and full of snark, and the sparks are firing from the moment they are together.

Despite their age gap, there is clear chemistry between them, and when Holden runs into trouble with his kids, Lexi reluctantly agrees to move into his guest room to provide some much needed help until he can hire a new nanny. It’s not a situation that Lexi is happy with, but she can’t deny that she enjoys the extra time around her irresistible boss, and with the two of them in such constant close proximity, their mad lust for each other very quickly turns into a secret, no-strings affair.

These two are so hot together. They flirt, banter and tease, and they both dive on in to explore their mad attraction, which results in some seriously steamy sexy time. But the longer they are together, the more their feelings become involved. I could feel the shift, I enjoyed watching things change, and I loved seeing them fall so completely for each other.

It’s steamy and romantic, and there’s lots of sweet, funny and sexy moments between them. It’s natural and easy, and though neither of them are looking for a relationship, they’re open and honest with each other about what they’re feeling, and they follow their hearts without reservation as they fall hard for each other.

Holden’s kids are a big part of the story and they are really entertaining. They are challenging, at difficult ages, but they have a fun dynamic and I loved seeing the little family grow together.

Holden and Lexi have challenges to overcome, and there is a little bit of drama, but they handle it well, and I enjoyed seeing these two find their happy ending.

This is a really sweet read. 3.5 stars.

Should Have Run is book 2 in the Lake Spark Inn series. It follows Holden and Lexi and their unique journey to happiness and love. Lake Spark Inn is connected to both the Lake Spark Off-Season and Lake Spark series. You'll randomly see characters for all series in these books.

Lexi is a feisty, sassy and independent interior designer who has been hired to renovate Dizzy Duck. She has worked his butt off to get to where she is.

Holden is a sexy, single dad, former professional hockey player who owns the Dizzy Duck.

Lexi and Holden compliment each other perfectly. They don’t hide their true feelings or what they are thinking. They are honest to the core and tell each other like it is. They are both sarcastic, straightforward, and pretty easy going. Holden is a single dad so his first priority will always be his kids and what’s best for his kids.

The banter, flirting, teasing between Holden and Lexi was amazing. You just knew from the start that they would be great together. They started with a fling, no strings attached relationship which they quickly realized there were strings, lots of them, pulling them together and their feelings were more than just friends with benefits.

Holden’s kids are a huge part of the story, and as I’ve mentioned he will do anything in his power for his kids. The kids are equally entertaining with a sassy 13 year old daughter and a too smart for his own good 10 year old son. Adding Lexi into the dynamic was epic, they both fell in love with having her around and she fit perfectly in with their family.

There is a little drama and a short break between the characters, but Holden eventually pulls his head out of his butt and communicates with Lexi and apologizes and of course wins her back. Their love and chemistry is real and raw and you feel it with every word you read.

This book drew me in and I wanted to know more about the characters and how they overcame their pasts. They both had to break down each other’s walls that they had built to protect them. Don’t get me wrong this was a good book and I loved the characters but I just didn’t connect with them as well as I have with her previous books. Lexi and Holden were sweet together, there were fun moments and sweet moments that make you want to visit Lake Spark and meet the characters and see what a charming town it really is

OMG - I tell you, small-town charm, swoon-worthy single dad, age gap, and a retired hockey player who still knows how to make your heart race, is where it’s at. And if you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m usually drawn to books that feature hockey in some way, so a retired player? Total win for me from the get-go. But it wasn’t just the hockey that had me hooked—it was Lexi and Holden’s dynamic that completely stole the show.

Lexi is everything I love in a heroine—bold, funny, caring, and unapologetically herself. She steps in to take on a motherly role for Holden's kids without hesitation, okay maybe a slight hesitation, lol IOU, but she did it nonetheless, and it was so natural as to how she did it. The moment she stood up for Harry at the school drop-off? My heart melted, and the fun little scene with her and Holden at the ice the rink when she neglected to tell Lori of her love, and skill, of figure skating so Lori could stand in the spotlight? With her skating. Like OMG my heart just squeezed—she was thinking with the heart of a mother. It was these small, tender moments that made Lexi so real to me.

And then there’s Holden. Oh, Holden. The man who deserved everything good and yet couldn’t quite believe he did. His selflessness, his devotion to his kids, and the way he struggled with the idea of wanting more… it just broke me. He needed someone like Lexi to challenge him, mind you he gave as good as he got too, but the push from Lexi to make him believe he could have it all was just everything for me. Lexi was just the spark he needed.

And can we please talk about their chemistry? Like holy monkey balls. Off the charts. I loved how their connection wasn’t just about romance, but about healing and finding balance. And then the kids? Pure chaos in the best way. A perfect blend of heart, humor, and FAMILY—this book checked every box for me. It’s a story that really gets under your skin, and by the end, I was cheering for them like they were my own team.

Anyways, I feel like I’m rambling but this was an absolute score. The mix of retired hockey, small-town sweetness, and unforgettable characters made it a read I’ll be thinking about for a long time. So, go pick it up. I promise you’ll love this little surprise.

Holden is a captivating character—a retired hockey player who has transitioned into owning a hotel. Now older and a single dad, he’s caught in a delicate balancing act, trying to manage his business while being a devoted father. His life takes a dramatic turn when the new interior designer, owing a favor from the past, moves into his guest room.

Lexi, the new interior designer, is a dynamic character whose life intertwines with Holden’s in the most unforeseen ways. Initially stepping into Holden’s world to redesign his hotel, she ends up filling a much more personal role due to an old favor her dad owed Holden. Her presence in Holden’s home introduces a whirlwind of change, not just in the physical space but also in the emotional landscape.

🗂️ Type: Should Have Run by Evey Leon is book 2 in the , but it can be read as a standalone.

Having just finished the book, I’m struck by the intense, emotional journey of Holden and the new interior designer who moves into his life. Holden, an older, single dad and a retired hockey player turned hotel owner, finds his world upended when she steps in. She ends up moving into his guest room, due to an old favor from her dad who coached Holden, and suddenly, she's not just redesigning his hotel but also taking care of his kids. Their relationship blossoms in the most unexpected ways, fueled by a magnetic attraction that neither can resist. The author beautifully captures Holden’s internal struggle—torn between his deepening feelings for her and his commitment to his children and his past. The story is a heartfelt exploration of love, responsibility, and the challenges of starting over. The chemistry between them is palpable, and their journey is both tumultuous and tender, making for a compelling read that kept me hooked until the very last page.

Should Have Run: A Small-Town Single Dad Romance (Lake Spark Inn Book 2) by Evey Lyon is about Holden, manager and third owner/investor of Lake Spark’s Dizzy Duck Inn, and his former hockey coach’s daughter, Lexi, a college graduate who is the newly hired interior designer to remodel the Inn while keeping the local history intact. Holden is a divorced former NHL player with a twelve-year-old daughter named Lori and a ten-year-old son named Harry. Both kids have managed to terrorize all their nannies to the point the nanny agency has no one left to send to help Holden out with child care. Holden must be on the private school’s principal’s speed dial since his children are constantly causing issues like in the whack-a-mole game. Due to desperation, Holden asks Lexi to temporarily help him with his kids so he can go to work. He proposes that she stay in the pool house due to an old favor owed him by Lexi, and she agrees. But when Lexi moves into Pool House, the water doesn’t work, so Holden offers her to live in his guest room with its ensuite in his home. Once she is moved into the house, their attraction for each other simmers on low until the children have a sleepover, and they decide to indulge their desires, which explode into fireworks. For now, the new lovers choose to keep their relationship secret since Holden is Lexi’s boss.
Meanwhile, one hotel suite becomes christened with a new frequency when their lust overrides common sense. As the story unfolds, Holden and Lexi wade through the sludge of community judgment, an ex-wife, two children, and Lexi’s dad, all hoping to survive as a couple. Should Have Run is a delightful story by Evey Leon that has no cheating and a guaranteed HEA.

Should have run is my second Evey Lyon read. Just like ‘Should have known’ the story is located at Lake Spark. Holden owns the local inn and he hired a interior designer to make some changes. Knowing that his former coach’s daughter Lexi could help him, he didn’t hesitate to get her the job. She was always off limits - still is - and is now grown into a beautiful woman. Being a single dad of two, older then her and the off limits rule makes him think twice before making a move. But he, nor Lexi can deny the chemistry they have going. Lexi is a breath of fresh air in his life. Sweet, easy going, carefree, enjoying life. He could use some help with his kids too. Luckily she ‘has’ to move in in his guestroom 😇

I liked reading this story, it was romantic, the characters were likeable and it was well written. Because the scenery mostly takes place at the hotel or Holdens house, the evolution of their relationship gets the most attention. And that’s fine, because it is not that easy. There are so many reasons why it wouldn’t work between them : Lexi was only at the little town for the job, Holden has to consider what the kids could think about a new relationship for their dad, … Luckily they both agree to see how it goes, but their feelings for one another grow stronger, maybe even into love.

In September the third book of Lake Spark Inn Series will release and I am very curious wich couple will have the lead in that story. Books are available at kindle unlimited, unfortunately they are removed from kobo (plus). I still have one unread paperback, so maybe I will read that one in the time waiting

2.5 stars. A lot of people will (and do) like this book, but sadly I couldn't get into it. A few chapters in, I realized that I didn't like Lexi, Holden, or Holden's kids. For Lexi, I felt like she was justifying her actions by saying she was bold, a free spirit, etc. She seemed to think she knew best when she didn't e.g., making a kid's school lunch with peanut butter without 1) asking if the school allowed peanuts and 2) asking about the kid's food preferences? Holden was depicted as one of the most inept dads ever, which allowed his kids to act like entitled, spoiled brats (I kinda felt for the son at times, like when he was bullied, but then I remembered he willingly terrorized the nannies. Not that anyone deserves to be bullied, but he was a bully to those nannies, too).

Some of the story points didn't work for me, either, and I had questions about others. For example, the one dinner scene, which served as a vehicle for Lexi to show her support for Holden and provide an opportunity for her to bond with Lori, struck me as awkward and overly contrived. Once again, Lexi acts as if she knows best when she could've handled things differently.

For most of the book, I would've been agreeable to giving this book a full three star review. However, the twist leading to the third act breakup was unnecessary (you have to question someone who will break up with you so easily) and the 'surprise' in the epilogue added to give the book the full HEA treatment was a touch cliche.

But that peanut butter and jelly cheesecake sounds good.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Holden is retired from hockey and now the owner of Dizzy Duck Inn, Lexi is the interior designer coming to renovate Dizzy Duck Inn and also the daughter of Holden's old hockey coach. From the time they met there was an instant spark between the two. Holden cashes in on an IOU from years prior and has Lexi move in and help with his kids.

Everything between these was hot. Their banter, their chemistry, their passion just everything. Watching these two fall in love was so sweet. They thought they were just keeping it casual but of course as with any other casual things, feelings became involved and they fell in love.

Holden's children, Lori and Harry, were a hilarious addition to the story. Between their pre-teen angst and attitude and their pranks, they kept them all on their toes.

Really looking forward to Summer's story next!

This is book 2 in this series and a great edition.
I really enjoyed Holden and Lexi's age gap romance..
Holden is a single dad and an ex NHL Hockey player, now he owns a hotel which needs renovating.
Hiring his ex coaches daughter and interior designer Lexi changes his life forever...Because Lexi becomes a very important part of his life and both his two children's lives.
Lexi's father used to coach the ex Hockey hottie Holden, designing his hotel would be easy...
Its when she moves into his guest room and starts to play the role of nanny, that things become complicated.
There is an instant attraction between them and there is no denying the chemistry they share, but Holden still sees her as the coaches daughter and forbidden fruit.
But it doesn't take long before lines are crossed.
I really love the banter between Holden and Lexi and their romance is both sweet and spicy because what starts off as just casual becomes so much more.
Holdens children Harry and Lori are such a handful and bring some angst and comedy to the story you can't help but love them.
I adored this book and the love story between Holden and Lexi also the relationship that develops between Lexi Harry and Lori...Because Lexi does become attached to Holden and his 2 kids, and they make a wonderful family.
I LOVED Evey Lyon's writing style and very much relished this romance story,I was captivated from the start right ubtil the end.
Brilliant book.

I loved being back at the Lake Spark Inn and with Holden and Lexi. Should Have Run is a small-town, age-gap, single dad, forbidden woman and forced proximity romance that is captivating, intriguing and one that is impossible to put down. Ms. Lyon writes a beautiful love story that will have your heart feeling all warm and fuzzy all while giving you a few laughs with the banter that happens between Holden and Lexi.
Lexi is that forbidden fruit that Holden was told not to touch because years ago her dad was his hockey coach. You did not cross that line,, plus she was way too young. Times have changed, she has changed and she is not the girl he once knew but this confident, sexy and flirty woman who is working on redesigning the Inn. To add to the temptation, she is also living in his house and helping with his children. Not something that either one of them saw happening but life decided to throw a curve in their plans. Lexi has her hands full with working at the Inn, helping with Holden's children Lori and Harry, and on top of that fighting the feelings that she has towards Holden. Will this forced proximity see flames ignite? How can they both keep their distance when there is such a pull?
The banter, flirting and testing one another has the sexual tension so thick between them that you could cut it with a knife. They have such a chemistry that they are perfect for one another.

Really entertaining and beautiful

“I didn’t mean what I said, any of it. I’ll keep apologizing even if it takes eternity.” “Eternity is a long time.”

A new book in the world of Lake Spark. Here we follow the journey of Lexi and Holden. A single dad who knows what he wants and goes for it.
What I like about Holdenis, that he isn't the classic hero. He is not always a Gentleman and says what he thinks. Sometimes a woman appreciates this side.
Lexi is very similar to Holden. Straightforward, sarcastic and pretty loosened up.
Their working together is as good as their private life. When Holden needs help with his kids he brings Lexi in, but not in the classical way. And in return she helps but does it cool casual.
Holden and Lexi have very high chemistry and are immensely attracted towards each other, a fact both don't deny or fight. But trying to keep that aspect, too, casual, is only determined to backfire.
There is a little complication in their way that has to get over, and they struggle with that. But also with feelings, insecurities and fears.
That was my point to really adore Lexi, as she stood to her feelings even when Holden hurt her. And of course could Holden not let go of a woman like that.
The epilogue was everything I wished for. Wonderful story with interesting created characters. Perfect side characters. And potential new stories.

I have loved every book based in Lake Spark and this one was no different! Ever since Stone caught Holden sneaking out of a room followed by a disheveled Lexi in Should Have Known, I’ve been itching to find out more about Holden!

Holden and Lexi aren’t strangers, in fact, her dad was his coach. However, it’s been several years since they’ve seen one another and while Holden is still attractive, Lexi has grown into a beautiful, sassy spitfire!!! From the first moment of their “reunion” it was clear that they had amazing chemistry and fun, sexy banter!

What starts out as undeniable lust, turns into a an arrangement of sorts with both parties understanding that this was just temporary. But what happens when feelings start to develop?

I actually really liked Holden’s hooligan children. They were a little out of control but added an interesting dynamic to the story and certainly had moments that were memorable!

Holden had his moment where he frustrated me and made decisions that I didn’t agree with, but he did redeem himself! I seriously loved Lexi! She gave as good as she got, but I it was her protectiveness with Harry that really stuck with me.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest opinion.

I recently devoured Evey Lyon's Should Have Run, and I must say, it's a delightful small-town romance that delivers a perfect blend of heart-warming moments and steamy encounters. The story follows Holden, a single dad who moves back to his hometown to care for his teenage sister after their parents' passing. As fate would have it, his high school sweetheart, Lexi, is now his next-door neighbor, and their undeniable chemistry reignites.

I was captivated by the author's skillful navigation of the complexities of second-chance love, with Holden determined to tear down the walls Lexi has built between them. Their exchanges of favors and stolen moments lead to a passionate reunion, but Lexi's fears about the risks involved threaten to derail their relationship.

I found Lyon's writing to be engaging and well-paced, drawing me into the lives of the characters. The small-town setting adds a charming backdrop to the story, and the supporting cast, particularly Holden's sister, adds depth and humor.

While the plot may not break new ground in the romance genre, Should Have Run delivers a heartwarming and steamy read that left me swooning. The book is a great addition to Lyon's growing bibliography and a promising start to the new series.

This was my first read by this author and definitely won't be my last one. I really love reading small town romances but also when it connects with sports romance, it's even better. I loved the banter between Lexi & Holden but also the sassiness that Lexi had; in a way it made me connect to her more. The kids written in the story were also hilarious but there were also so many sweet moments. A great read! Looking forward to reading more in this series.

As Lexi starts her new job, Holden is in a bit of bind with his kids but he makes Lexi an offer she can't refuse and she starts helping him out but there's a spark between them that seems to ignite a flame between them that's just indisputable. Even though there's quite an age difference between them and Lexi's the daughter of his former coach, they can't seem to stay away from one another. As they're trying to navigate into the new situation, they grow closer to one another. But when Holden's collides with his new founded relationship, he'll have to decide what's really worth fighting for. Will they be together in the end of it all?...

I dived into the read as soon as it landed in my Kindle as I have been eagerly waiting for Holden's book, especially after the glimpse of what's to expect that we got in Stone's book. This book was everything I expected and more. Like always, I was mesmerized by Evey's writing and lost myself in this marvelous world she has created. Lexi is perfect for not just Holden but Lori and Harry as well. Lexi was the one who completed their family. All four of them captivated my heart, and I was in awe of the bond that they formed. I loved Lori and Harry's shenanigans. And the escapades Holden, Lexi had at Dizzy duck Inn were my favorite. One of my favorite thing was how each of their relationship developed and how Lexi did not run away when things got tough. The spice was off the charts and their chemistry sizzling hot enough to melt my Kindle. I just wished we got more of Stone. The epilogue brought a huge smile to my face, and I am now excited for Summer's book next. Thanks to Evey and Wordsmith Publicist for the advanced copy of this enchanting read.

A perfect title for a perfect second book in another heart-pounding romantic masterpiece by Evey Lyon.

"Should Have Run," the second book in the Lake Spark Inn Series, sees ex-hockey player, single dad, and now owner of the Dizzy Duck Inn, Holden, fall for the one woman he shouldn't: his ex-coach's daughter, Levi, who is now employed to do the interior design of the Inn. Once again, this author delivers another story that hits right to the heart. This age-gap single dad romance was sizzling hot, but wrapped around a brilliantly blooming romance, even as Levi and Holden try hard to keep things light.

Like peanut butter and jelly cheesecake, this story was pure perfection.

Lori and Harry, Holden's delightful children, play an important part in this story. As this couple navigates a few bumps in the road, I loved Levi because, through all the ups and downs, she stood strong in her love for Holden, and her unwavering love for his children shines through.

Evey Lyon masterfully balances the intense chemistry between Levi and Holden with the tender moments that make their relationship special. The story's emotional depth and the charming setting of the Dizzy Duck Inn make "Should Have Run" a captivating and unforgettable read. Fans of the series and new readers alike will be swept away by this enchanting love story.

This is the second book in Evey Lyon new series.
Holden is the majority owner of the Lake Spark Inn and wants to renovate it, so he hires Lexi, his former coach's daughter, who wants to build her portfolio.

They have instant chemistry and Holden gets Lexi to live in his guest bedroom at his house when renovating the hotel. An because he can't keep a nanny, Lexi starts to help him with his children.

When they start seeing each other in secret is all lust but between one family breakfast and some other family related event, Lexi starts to feel more like a mother figure to his kids than some friend who sometimes help him.

I loved their banter and how Lexi helps his daughter and support both kids. Sometimes it seems like Lexi is the mature one in the relationship. And please, keep making the other couples appear in the books because the conversations between Stone and Holden are pure gold.

I loved this not-a-nanny, single dad, age gap, roommate romance! Lexi and Holden had oodles of chemistry right from the start, and I so enjoyed going along for the ride as these two navigated a friends-with-benefits fling that slowly turned into so much more.

Their fling seems to be going perfectly… until it doesn't. There's a pretty big conflict that causes Lexi and Holden to hit pause on their situationship, leading to heartbreak and a lot of big emotions that need to be dealt with.

I really enjoyed the easy banter between these two, as well as the relationships that Lexi developed with Holden's kids, Lori and Harry. I felt that those were fully developed as well, and her living with the family (even if it was meant to be temporary) had a huge impact on his kids, who were lacking a mother figure in their daily lives.

Overall, Should Have Run is a fantastic story in the Lake Spark world and I really enjoyed it!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Should Have Run by E. Lyon is the second book in the Lark Spark Inn Series. The previous book is Should Have Known, Stone and Harlow's story.
Every book can easily be read as stand alone. But there are a few cross overs, I recommend to read the books in order.
Holden is an ex-hockey player. A single dad of two teenagers and co-owner of Lark Spark Inn. He has his hands full with work and kiddos, has a revolving door of nannies and needs help asap.
Bring Lexi in the mix. The interior designer is his former coach's daughter, strictly off limits, and becomes his saving grace when she nannies and accepts emploment at his hotel.
Their chemistry is rwarrr - but see above - strictly off limits.
A romantic age gap, small town, single dad romance that gives all the feels and deserves all the stars. Next is Should Have Been coming this fall.

Holden, retired ice hockey player and part owner or the Dizzy Duck Inn at Lake Spark, doesn't bring ladies into his home.
Holden doesn't mix business and pleasure or ex team family members.
Holden has obviously lost his head when Lexi, his coach's daughter walks into the Inn to redesign and give the place a well needed Oomph, especially the Moose head on the wall.
Lexi is confident, knows what she wants and what she likes and age doesn't make any difference to her.
She didn't envisage nanny as an extra job when she took on the Dizzy Duck, but there are definite pluses for doing it.
I loved watching their chemistry and especially watching Holden realise what Lexi is to him.
Lori and Harry, Holden's children come first and foremost, just remember that.
Great story and great characters. Loved watching it all unfold and I'm sure other Lake Spark lovers will too.

I absolutely love this book. I couldn't put it down. Holden is a retired hockey player, owner of a hotel and father of two trying children. Lexi is a strong, feisty and independent woman who lives life how she likes. Holden hires her to redecorate his Inn and the sparks fly from first meet. These two have off the charts amazingly hot chemistry. I love all the banter and spicy times. Holdens kids add to all the fun and drama. What a wild ride. Also, I must try PB&J cheesecake. This town of Lake Sparks is such a wonderful place with fun, amazing characters. I can't wait for the next book. Definitely a 5 star must read.

I was sent a free book from Wordsmith Publicity and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

We are taking another visit to Lake Spark. This is the second book in the series. I was excited to dive into this one because Holden is a single dad. His daughter has a feisty personality. Don't blame her with everything to do with her mom. Lexi and Holden have burning hot chemistry their flirt game is a form of foreplay for them. I really enjoyed this one. Lexi may not be the nanny, but she wins over the kids when Holden cashes in a long over due IOU. As she spends time with Harry and Lori she forms sort of a kinship with them. Of course it's not all sunshine and rainbows especially when Holden's ex reenters the picture. Things are about to get quite interesting. This is a good installment in the Lark Spark world.

Such a fun, sweet read! Holden just bought the Inn in Lake Spark and is working hard to revamp it while also being a single parent. Lexi is the daughter of Holden's former hockey coach and now a local interior designer. Last Holden saw Lexi she was much younger, now she has grown into a smart, strong, attractive independent woman. There is no way he can resist her, especially when she is forced to live in his house while designing the Inn. I love Lexi's confidence and kind nature, she is so wonderful with Holden's kids. Holden has a past keeping him from getting too close but Lexi is hard to resist. He is such a wonderful father and certainly has great chemistry with Lexi. This is book 2 in the Lake Spark Inn series and another fantastic, fun, sweet read!
