"You don't want to quit, right? I've got my fists, and you've got your blades. So till we draw our last breaths let's do what we love and have some fun!"
HOSHINA!! HOSHINA!! HOSHINA!!
His battle/fight was SO good!! Definitely felt like I was thriving as a fan and was cheering out loud when he had his breakthrough as well as seeing him start to win! And not just that, but seeing him and No. 10 fully connect was AWESOME! They really do make an epic duo and this fight showed it, especially when they tried something "new" near the end, which was incredible! I loved every single moment of it!
And not just that battle, but MINA! I was shocked to see she had her own spotlight and was so giddily happy! She is amazing and seeing her motivations and her fears was incredible to witness as a reader because she has been so inspiring (and continues to be)! <3
I'm very very excited to see what's to come! It looks like Kafka is up next for the spotlight and I am more than ready, even though I feel slightly terrified at what seems to be happening right now! I'm hoping he gets to where he needs to go before things get worse because this could be really really bad otherwise!!
It's cover to cover warfare, but I love the way Naoya Matsumoto puts such heart into the battles, weaving in flashbacks and firmly centering well-rounded characters in the midst of the action and chaos. Soshiro Hoshina and Mina Ashiro get the spotlights this time around, but the bad guys drive the fight right into the next volume.
the hoshina brothers? i might as well cry bc of the ultimate pookie core they served in their childhood (i sense the angst). i ADORE the dynamic between kaiju 10 & soishiro more and more with every chapter. AND mina ashiro has all of my silly heart BECAUSE SHE DESERVES A HUG SO BADLY.
It's been a while since I read the previous volume, so I'd forgotten how tense everything was. I kind of love that what makes Hoshino and No. 10 get synced up, is the fact that they have fun while fighting when you take away all the noble/logical reasoning. That's a really fun detail. That said, while it is fun to get more in depth with the other characters in the series, I really would love to see more of Kafka again. But I guess that'll happen in the next volume.
This was my favorite volume in a while! I loved the mind melding and getting to see no.12 be more chaotic than evil so much. It was also fantastic getting to witness Mina's side of things enough to really give you an idea of how she's been handling her position and how this whole thing has effected her. The surprise third wave definitely throws a wrench in things! And I'm super excited to get to see what Kafka's going to do next- and the reasoning behind no.14's super ominous look.
Breathtaking fight scenes focused on Hoshina and a whole lot of backstory and tag-team play that I enjoyed. I trust Matsumoto’s vision with the last couple volumes and the ones after this one, truly an insane ending to a volume/chapter and I have a feeling No. 8 is about to pop off. Kaiju No. 8 remains my favorite manga/anime oat.
A little less expansive than the previous volume in rich characterization, but the visual sweep is off the charts. Finally getting impressive moments, back story and validation of the excellence of Asano is also a nice part of this book - she’s been too far in the background for too long.
Guys what the fuck!!!!! MINAAAAAAAA!!!! HOSHINO is such a badass and I totally get the craze for the blade, I too would find that hella fun. But WHAAAAAAT IN THE MARBLES!!!!! This villain is villainising in a way that no villain has EVER before. This is beyond DIABOLICAL!!!! WHAT!!!!!!!! Immediately, give me the next book!!!!! YESTERDAY!!!!
Another banger, if you give me Hoshina I will have the best of time. I really liked getting more of just Mina's past and her thoughts, since I have felt like I never really understood her.
The ending of this volume is insane how are we supposed to deal with all of this?
