Mason Dakota is an American author of dystopian thrillers, urban fantasy, and speculative fiction that examines power, faith, and what it means to be human in the face of collapse. His stories combine the cinematic intensity of science-fiction action with the haunted intimacy of literary horror—creating immersive worlds where rebellion meets redemption.

Mason is best known for the Dystopian King Series—including Nobility, Illegal King, King’s Knight, and the prequel King’s Bodyguard—a dark, fast-paced saga of class warfare, genetic engineering, and moral revolution.

Drawing inspiration from Jim Butcher, Pierce Brown, Mark Lawrence, and Ben Hale, Mason’s writing blends philosophical themes with gritty realism and cinematic action. His work resonates with readers who love The Hunger Games, Red Rising, the Dresden Files, and Maze Runner.

When he’s not writing, Mason enjoys time with his family exploring the mountains and chasing down their runaway dogs.

This werewolf story has a unique take on how werewolves came to be, and it is a take I enjoyed. This story starts out with a bang as you get introduced to a teenage Angus (MMC) who is learning to be a Hunter. His village is then attacked by werewolves and his family was killed.

While I loved the story, I will admit that it took me a bit to warm up to Angus. His inability to listen to those who know more than him and his pride cause most of his problems. He always acted before he thought of the consequences. I know he was a teenager, but it was a little frustrating that it took so long for him to mature into the type of person he wanted to be.

I liked the writing style in this book, and it was easy to follow. The action was well paced, and the story flowed. There were some twists and turns that added to the suspense on whether the Hunters would be successful against the werewolves.

I definitely want to read the next book in this series as I want to see where the authors take the story and if Angus continues to grow into the leader and man he needs to be.

Can you imagine being face to face with an angry werewolf?  That is exactly what happens when you open the pages to Wolves of Bad Chapel. Excitement and fear made my heart race as I turned the pages. Transported into a time and place with monsters, criminals, and blurry lines of what is honorable or selfish.

August joins a squad of unlikely hunters. Each one complements each other's skills. Leading to discoveries and plot twists where everything is not as it seems. This story draws you into its world with tragedies and victories.

Wolves of Bad Chapel has relatable characters with intense emotions and impulsive actions. I recommend it to everyone from young adults to seasoned readers. You will fall into a world of monsters, man and beasts alike. Excitement and action flowing from every page keeps you reading long after most novels had you taking a break. Don't miss this 5-star tale of adventure.

Pay heed when the lad cries, “Wolf!”
There will always be monsters in the world, so we need more people trained for dealing with them. And not only professionals – we all need to learn basic skills so that we have ‘a safer humanity’.

Following in the authors’ footsteps, I shall selflessly share some sage survival advice found throughout this story:
Live by the Code.
Share knowledge.
Join a community.
Have enough bullets.
Be ruthless, as needed.
Avail yourself of the advantage.
Finish your chores when Mama tells you to.

Fave line – so true IRL:
‘You can’t hunt monsters without facing them within yourself.’

This is a really good dystopian, fantasy story! Great ideas, really interesting read, with this mixed up world full of monsters! I really enjoyed the style of the book, made a good change to the usual dystopian story, the energy was high pretty much through the whole thing & pacing & action just right! A really good fun read, I do recommend!

This is a fantasy book where the monsters are hunted by a guild of monster hunters. Each guild specializes with a certain type of monster. This story is about August who wants to join the werewolf hunting guild. This is his story about how he joins the guild and what happens while he is in the guild. This is a great book with character building and story twist.
