You know when you see that big red flag, and you think to yourself, I should probably not go anywhere near there?
Yeah, Quincy Carter ignored that big red flag. He walked right up to that red flag, waving blatantly in the wind, and kissed the holy hell out of her.
Sure, he probably should’ve arrested her for breaking a restraining order.
He probably also should’ve stopped her from continuing to break that restraining order.
Yet… he can’t.
By the time he realizes he’s in deep, Quincy has no other options but to ride the wave of continuous disaster that is Hollis Aue.
***
Hollis Aue is on the road to revenge.
After a famous comedian rips her best friend in the middle of his biggest show ever and elevated her disabilities to the butt of his joke, her best friend spirals.
After finding out from a kindhearted detective that her best friend took her own life, Hollis makes it her new mission to make that comedian’s life a living hell.
The only problem with that is Detective Quincy Carter with the Dallas Police Department insinuates himself into her life, making it impossible for her to achieve her goals.
Try as she might, she can’t shake him, and soon, the lines between hate and love start to blur.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
I second someone else's review that had a running list of all the plot holes. There's no character intro, it's like we're supposed to know exactly who everyone is already. So many mentions of random things that never come up again or ever get explained. And the names, what the heck is up with these names? There's creative and then there's Humfrid. Who's a girl... These are seriously the weirdest names I've ever seen. Can someone tell me how to even pronounce Aue?? I feel like the author is just trying way too hard to be cute and quirky and it's not working unfortunately.
I almost didn't read this book because I'm still not over just now much page space these Carters stole from Keene's book. I'm glad I caved because I really liked this one which surprised me due to no angst or OW drama. Go figure!
Loved the characters, his protectiveness and his family, and can't wait for the next book in the series.
We met the Carter family in Keene's book, in the Welcome to the Circus series. They've been through some tough times, but never lose their closeness as a family, and in Quincy & Hollis's story, we continue to see that bond.
The story starts out somewhat sad, with an emotional loss. That is partly what brings these two together, but their relationship doesn't have a pall over it. In fact, I loved the hilarity of Quincy & Hollis's relationship. He's keeping an eye on her to keep her "stalking" at bay, but in turn, becomes HER stalker! It's cute.
Hollis's family is ... not the best, and I love seeing her brought into the Carter fold. She & Quincy are connected in a few different ways they didn't know about, too, which was cool. There's a bit of a mystery going on with a couple of Quincy's cases that was interesting, too.
Just the right amount of steam & lots of good times & an enjoyable story. I'm gonna continue enjoying this family!
Lani Lynn Vale's latest novel, No Cap, is a thrilling addition to the Carter Brothers series that will keep readers hooked until the very end. The story follows the life of Remy Carter, a former Marine turned private investigator, as he navigates the complexities of his personal and professional life.
Vale's character development is one of the strongest aspects of the book. Remy is a complex and multifaceted protagonist who struggles with the demons of his past while trying to build a future for himself. The supporting characters, particularly Remy's family members, are equally well-written and add depth to the overall narrative.
The plot of No Cap is a perfect blend of romance, suspense, and action. Vale skillfully weaves together multiple storylines, keeping readers engaged and guessing until the very end. The pacing of the book is well-balanced, with moments of intense action followed by quieter, more introspective scenes.
One of the standout features of Vale's writing is her ability to create a vivid and immersive world for her characters to inhabit. The setting of No Cap is richly described, and readers will feel as if they are right there alongside Remy as he navigates the streets of his hometown.
While the book does have a few predictable moments, it is still a highly enjoyable read. Vale's writing style is engaging and accessible, making it easy for readers to lose themselves in the story. The romance between Remy and his love interest is well-developed and adds an emotional depth to the overall narrative.
Overall, No Cap is a must-read for fans of Lani Lynn Vale and the Carter Brothers series. It is a well-crafted and engaging novel that will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series. If you enjoy a mix of romance, suspense, and action, then this book is definitely for you.
The first time Police Officer Quincy Carter sees Hollis Aue he feels the boom, he is definitely intrigued by the woman who gives him nothing but attitude. The second time Quincy is would rather be anywhere else then consoling her. Quincy can't say that their interactions have been forgettable and he can't seem to stop finding her doing things that are against the law.
Hollis is out for revenge. She is angrier at the person who caused her friend a deep hurt and she has no plans in letting up. So when Quincy Carter shows up to remind her of her restraining order, she finds herself finally focused on the man who is quickly capturing her heart. Can the rulebreaker and the rule maker find a happily ever after?
Sat down read and started the next book. Love this series. I liked everyone in this book and cannot wait for the brothers books. Hollis does what she needs to do and I thought she was one of the best characters in this authors book so far. Terrific.
I am always so excited to start a new series feom LLV.
No Cap is book 1 in the Carter Brothers series and man did it start with a bang. Straight into the feels with an emotional beginning but then the hilarity and chaos ensued.
Quincy and Hollis are perfectly suited and I was loving every interaction they had. I am so invested in this series already and cannot wait to see what the next books have for us.
Quincy was the adult in this couple. Hollis needed to seek LOTS of counseling to fix her issues. I understand she felt the comedian needed to pay for his insult to her friend that lead to her suicide but I'll just be blunt. I HATE THE IDEA OF TAKING SOMEONE ELSES OPINION AND USING IT AS AN EXCUSE FOR YOUR ACTION.
Her friend didn't seek help, didn't want help and couldn't see an end in sight. She was struggling and maybe going out to a comedy show would have picked her up but they were both fans of this comedian and should have known what brand of humor the guy used. If he was regularly making fun of his guests then maybe supporting him by going to his show isn't such as smart idea. Hollis talks about him doing it to other people too. Why, just why would you support the man by going to his show and putting money in his pocket?
Putting that aside, Hollis should have been charged for stalking. Yes, the man deserved some payback but there comes a point where you ARE breaking the law by getting access where you shouldn't be (phone numbers, girlfriends, addresses) She crossed the line so many times that as a police officer he should have had second thoughts about any engagement with him. Mental duress aside, this went on for way too long.
Now, moving on from that rant. Once we got past the very far-fetched beginning the story calmed down a bit. Although, why did this girl try so hard with her family. I'm sorry but my family was a decent one and I've written them off due to the fact they never make the effort and it always has to be me call/visit. This family did MUCH worse and she just kept going back for more. I almost feel like she enjoyed being dumped on so much. Strange. Maybe there are people who want love and acceptance from their family so badlythat they go this extreme or maybe I'm just that jaded.
I enjoyed meeting the other brothers and Quincy's family. They were great as well as the parents. The relationship we see pretty much Quincy doing the heavy lifting to build the connection and help her recover from her family's abuse and friends suicide. He was certainly the hero in this story.
But I will say... I love LLV but I feel like her books have become almost formuliac in that they always follow the same pattern. The end always feels a bit rushed together and not that well fleshed out to the beginning and middle of the story. Maybe, I'm just burnt on reading right now though I'm enjoying some other authors. I'll try again with the next book - see how it goes.

This started really well but after her friend passed it went downhill quick. There is no consistency with the FMC and you've lost any depth in her character through the immature way she speaks and handles things. And what is the obsession with oil changes? Not sure if this is American slang or due to a limited mechanical understanding.
As an audiobook to some extent a rating includes the narrators. That part was fine, easy to listen to and follow. LLV decided we would be witnesses the type of heroine that just can’t stand up for herself. Analysing the character, we have loads of quirks, supreme loyalty, scattered in a general sense ie always late, can’t find parking spots, clothing questionable.
She loves her bestie we get that straight up which is why even with the best intentioned loved ones it was still emotional to listen to the aftermath. The pain ricochet’s throughout friends and family it’s truly brutal. So our heroine spirals and it’s understandable. I just don’t understand that chick, the one that could endlessly think of ways to seek revenge and on the other hand, allows other people in her life to treat her so badly which only accounts for her own self worth.
By the time there’s a meet cute (which wasn’t), we know our hero is a cop and he is pretty tired and so on. He is struck by our heroine and somehow they keep interacting because of his role as detective. He also empathises with her grief and wants to help her progress through it. I think he is inadvertently her support person.
Our heroine is one that LLV didn’t physical abuse (as she has to many heroines in the past books) but did in every other way. She doesn’t deal well with conflict and abuse at work. She is an absolute basket case with her family and their passive aggressive abuse which frankly made no sense and devolved into the ridiculous. I just felt that LLV pulled the heroine into responses that weren’t congruent with the overarching reality that the heroine was a doormat and people pleaser. The entire revenge plot just isn’t in character.
The trigger for the revenge is petty and stupid. To visit a comedy show to see a comedian that apparently helped you out of a dark place with their comedy. So what’s funny about someone that’s roasting random people that pay good money to see the show? He does this - but wouldn’t you know this is his comedy as a fan?Wouldn’t you empathise with any victims of his humour? Wouldn’t you therefore not want to see said comedian if you’re the type he would set upon?
The romance is more a rescue. Our hero is MVP of the story along with his family. I just didn’t like the heroine so really couldn’t get into the story. 🙃

At the conclusion of Ms. Vale's previous series it was clear that readers weren't done with the new family introduced towards the end. The Carter brothers take center stage here with a likable tale of opposites attracting as the good guy cop finds himself drawn to the wild child heroine with a painful past. With a heartbreaking start readers will quickly get swept up in a romance with the perfect balance of fun and flirty banter along with steamy encounters. Add in bits of suspense and mystery and you end up with a solid series starter!
Quincy Carter is a drool-worthy hero, a dedicated and hardworking detective with a heart of gold. He knows that he and Hollis shouldn't work, but he just doesn't care and wants her despite her criminal behavior. He's a good support to Hollis and gets her when no one else does in a romance that made me smile and blush a time or two. Hollis Aue has had a lifetime of pain, been on her own with virtually no one in her corner...until one person became her unlikely friend. When the cruelty of another leads to a gut-wrenching choice though, Hollis is left reeling and out for revenge. Through every vengeful encounter, Hollis finds herself staring Quincy down...and more than ready to do more with him in a sizzling connection that weathered all the ups and downs. Hollis is a blunt person who tells it like it is, a tough girl exterior with a hidden soft side that Quincy brings out. I very much liked her and could easily understand why she wanted revenge. She's a loyal person with few people who care about her, so I could relate to and appreciate that fierce loyalty. These two may seem like opposites but they fit beautifully together.
On a whole this was an entertaining series starter with a strong main couple who brought out the best in each other. Their romance was both sizzling with moments of sweetness sprinkled in along with banter that amplified the sexual tension. The only speed bump in my journey of enjoyment was the rather rushed ending. It was a bit jarring, but until that moment there's much to like about this book and I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the family!
I love a fresh series with new characters and endless possibilities. I enjoy even more than we get to see old and much loved faces pop in.
Hollis is a prickly little thing and I loved her for it. She cracked me up with her sharp tongued attitude. Blunt honestly and grouchy nature. She experienced a life time of hurt and disappointment only to loose someone who meant everything to her. A grudge would be an understatement for the rage Hollis felt and I didn't blame her one single bit. She's fiercely loyal and under the anger and snappy attitude was a sweet very few got to experience. I loved that about her.
Quincy is dabbling in places he had no business dabbling in and he ends up stalking a stalking. No I'm serious. It is hilarious. Quincy is just the right about of hard and sweet. He's committed to his job, it's his life. But, he knows Hollis is more than crazy. He knew she was his. His immediate protectiveness had me swooning. He had morals and loyalty and so much sweet I could not cope.
I loved them together. They really shouldn't have worked. Him a law man and her a law breaker. Hilarious as it was they just clicked. She didn't take his shit or need him. He gave her the space to be soft without feeling weak. They had a sweet balance and eve when life got in the way they still managed to find a way to make it work. I loved them. The chemistry is perfection and the growth of them as a couple is the sweetest. The epilogue... I could not. The sweetest.
The brothers... colour me curious about every damn one of those delicious specimens.
The scene with Zilla and Quin.. I about died laughing.
This book nearly killed me off. I'm not even joking. I'm in the pits of hell with a sinus infection and the first chapter had me crying HARD. Have you ever cried with a damn sinus infection? I was legit drowning in my own snot.
But what a way to kick off this series. I am so looking forward to all the dysfunctional family gathers and the new faces they bring with each book.
Lani Lynn Vale's new series, Carter Brothers, is a spin-off of The Fool, the seventh and final book in her Welcome to the Circus series, which wrapped up a little over a month ago. If you've read the aforementioned series ender, then you may recall that the female main character there, Ande Carter, has seven brothers, all of whom happen to work for the Dallas Police Department, alongside their parents. The eldest, Quincy, kicks things off for this new series, with his journey to his happily-ever-after playing out in the series starter, No Cap. This is a good boy/bad girl romance with a smidgen of mystery included.
Listening to your gut is a vital skill for those in law enforcement, and while police detective Quincy Carter pretty much has more than an inkling that radiology technician Hollis Aue is a bit of a troublemaker, his gut tells him that she's going to be the kind of trouble that he wants in his life. The loss of her best friend has left Hollis with a need for vengeance, and Quincy may need to remind her of a restraining order against her but he wants to get to know this intriguing woman, even if she could wreak havoc on his heart.
I quite enjoyed this new series starter. I liked the fact that Lani Lynn Vale went with the good boy/bad girl trope because it isn't as commonly used as the bad boy/good girl trope. Quincy and Hollis were opposites who were able to fit in a way that actually made them make sense as a couple. They were loyal to and protective of those who mattered most to them, and when they loved, it was intense. While there are quite a few supporting characters because of just how many Carters there are, it wasn't too difficult to keep track of them. The glimpses I got of the other brothers wasn't overwhelming; they were just enough to keep my curious. Overall, No Cap was a strong beginning to the series. 4.5 stars.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A fun and sexy romance that I read with pleasure !
I don't really know why it took me so long to start this series (maybe because I was afraid of being disappointed ... I liked the series with the Circus less than the other series like in Kilgore for example) but once I started, I devoured this book =)
I had forgotten how fun the characters in LLV were and I loved all the drama (about the comedian who was horrible, about Hollis' family) and the romance was great (especially all the private joke about the "stalker" xD)
Only one criticism perhaps : I would have liked the plot with the murders to be more developed, also the story with Hollis' family ...
In short, a sexy romance with a touch of suspense that I read with great pleasure ! I can't wait to read the books with all the other brothers =D
What a PERFECT start to a new series by one of my very favorite go-to authors. Hollis and Quincy start off on the wrong foot, but that certainly doesn’t dissuade them from exploring the sizzling chemistry that’s simmering between them. Quincy is a triplet and the oldest of the Carter family and we met him briefly in the last book of LLV’s Welcome to the Circus series. Having said this, there are many layers to this man and I loved getting to know each and every one of them.
Hollis on the other hand doesn’t have the same bond with her family and her best friend, Keda was her found family. Her life takes a dramatic turn when after a night out that was supposed to be filled with laughter absolutely goes in the opposite direction. My heart hurt so much not only for Hollis because she lost “her person,” but for Keda. While I’ve never experienced anywhere near the traumatic events Keda did, I can completely empathize with how she was feeling and what drove her to decision she made. This one decision changes the trajectory of both Hollis and Quincy’s lives.
Hollis is on the war path to make someone pay and Quincy seems to always be there to thwart her mission. Although she did manage to wreak havoc and I honestly was laughing because this person deserves it one hundred times over!
I loved how these two connected and when they came together it was HAF!! Quincy, for the very first time feels more than he thought possible and Hollis isn’t sure what to do with her feelings but there’s one thing that’s certain these two are meant to be. Along the way to their HEA, there’s some mysterious stuff going down, we get to meet the entire Carter family, I laughed, sighed and swooned. I cannot wait for the next book because it’s going to be an adventure that’s for sure!
No Cap by Lani Lynn Vale is book one in the new Carter Brothers series. The story focuses on Quincey and Hollis. Hollis is not a girl to mess with, after the tragic death of her friend by a comedian who makes her the butt of his jokes, Hollis is determined to make him pay anyway she can but try and stay in the law doing it. The only problem is police officer, Quincey who keeps popping up everywhere she is, trying to keep her from jumping too far down the rabbit hole. Instantly there are sparks between the two, but both characters seem to have a lot going on before they get together.
I did love Quincey’s family and you instantly feel the love between all of them. (If you have read Welcome to the Circus series, you will have met some of the characters before) and know that they have each other’s back. And what Quincey does for Hollis after he met her family was just beautiful, although I don’t know if Hollis’s brother can quite be redeemed. There is just a great sense of emotion in this book that you want to know what happens to the characters. To say that both Hollis and Quincy have been through a lot and come out of the other side as good, hard-working people is an understatement. The fact that they found each other is just beautiful!
As always with Lani Lynn Vale books, there’s drama, suspense, some laugh out oud moments and everything in between. A great start to a new series!
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊
When Hollis’s best friend takes her own life after a comedian makes rude and callous comments about her disability, she decides to make his life a living hell in every way possible, from sharing out his phone number, to social media comments and more. The only thing really standing in her way is a restraining order forcing her to keep her physical distance, and Detective Quincy Carter.
Hollis may be waving every red flag available, but that isn’t going to stop Quincy from staking his claim. He not only marched right over those red flags, but insinuated himself so deep into her life that Hollis can never get rid of him . . . not that she wants to anymore.
But there’s always more to every story with Lani Lynn Vale, so readers beware . . . In the best way of course!
Welcome to the Carter Brothers! I adored everything about this book and can’t wait for more of these brothers! I loved that it was a bad girl / good boy twist on the classic trope. These characters also came from opposite backgrounds, even though they have the common ground of someone close to them dying by suicide. Let’s just say that Hollis’s family is special, and that her bond with her best friend was real and genuine and that right or wrong, it’s no wonder that she lashed out at the person she feels caused her to end her life. And, Quincy has such a solid family that has so much love to give that adding Hollis to their numbers was the perfect fit for everyone!
Sexy as can be, emotional at times, high on drama and lots of laughs, No Cap was the perfect start to this new series! 5 stars!
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the start of a new series and it's SO good. It stars the Carter Brothers who are connected to the authors Circus series. Their sister, Ande, married Keene in the last book in that series.
Quincy is a cop and Hollis is well, I am not sure what to call her. She works at the hospital as a radiology tech, and she actually helped save Quincy's brother in the Circus series. So, she definitely knows Ande who is Quincy's sister. She also is having a rough time as her best friend kills herself after a terrrible accident and then a very mean comic humiliates her. After that Hollis out to get him and that's when Quincy starts popping up everywhere.
These two are very hot and sexy together but it's a slow burn book as it takes a while for the hot stuff to get there. It's also an opposites type of romance as Hollis is the bad girl and Quincy the good guy. He doesn't want her to end up in jail, so he starts watching her VERY closely and that was a lot of fun for her, him and well me. It was really a lot of fun.
This book did have some very sad moments, but it also had humor, family, romance, hotness and friendship. I loved it so much and cannot wait for more Carter brothers to find their ONE!
We loved Hollis's and Quincy's story it made you laugh and wanted to make you cry. Hollis, we found to be an advocate for others but, not so much for herself, what we loved about her the most is that she was a bit of a rebel and she is the kind of character that you love all those little quirks about them. Quincy is a bit of a workaholic dedicated to his job, but the little rebel slightly bad girl catches his eye and he can't stop thinking about her and becomes a bit of a stalker himself. Grins...
This was a fun read yet had a serious undertone and was emotional and filled with messy family drama and heartbreak. We love when opposites attract and Hollis and Quincy could not be more different but, Quincy quickly becomes her fierce protector and can give her everything she wants and craves and Quincy & the Carter family are a big part of that. We loved the Carter brothers and can't wait to see more of them and get to know them better as we love them all already.
We enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next in the series. We loved Hollis and Quincy as a couple they were perfect for one another his life with her will never be dull that is for sure. Hollis was such a fun character she kept us grinning and smiling throughout and Quincy is the perfect book boyfriend who is fierce and protective and has a panty-melting smile that wins the girl every time.
We meet the Carters’ in Keene’s book and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the Carter brothers! No Cap is Quincy’s story and I LOVED it!
Quincy Carter, oldest Carter sibling and a triplet, is a detective with the Dallas Police Department. It is this unfortunate role that he meets Hollis Aue, because that means someone is no longer alive. I adored Hollis! Especially her loyalty to her best friend and her dedication to making the man that had a hand in her friend taking her own life miserable at every turn he makes. Knowing that he should arrest her for violating the restraining order against her, Quincy just can’t bring himself to take Hollis in. Instead, he insinuates himself into her life and kinda becomes her own stalker lol.
I loved every aspect of this story. Especially when Quincy finds out what a craptastic family she comes from and makes up for it in spades. But I also loved how he can relate to her struggling losing her friend, because he unfortunately has suffered the same loss. This book brought out every single emotion in me. Anger, tears, laughter, and so much love. We are off to a great start with this loud and boisterous Carter clan and I can’t wait for more!
What a way to start a new series!! I think I am going to love the Carter Brothers series!! But what don’t I love when it comes to Lani Lynn Vale?
Hollis Aue is on a mission, that mission is vengeance. Her best friend has been through the ringer then when she is bullied in front of a packed comedy show by her favorite comedian of all the people, she lost her will. Hollis is fighting back, and that restraining order was just what she needed, she met Quincy.
Quincy Carter is one of the many men of the Carter clan. They are built of police officers, but Quincy is the detective of the family. He meets Hollis when a comedian needs help from a stalker. The second he sees her he knows she is trouble but that pulls her to him even more.
I loved how Quincy pulled Hollis in from the get-go and held on tight. He immediately saved her and swept her off of her feet, protected her and she never seen him coming. On the other foot she was just what Quincy needed in his life too. Hollis even though was in the wrong in the beginning she was my hero sticking up for her best friend the way she did but I fell in love with her character immediately. Then Quincy came along and well lets just say I couldn’t put the book down. Can’t wait for the next!!
Ok first book in the Carter series and I’m hooked!!! I love the family dynamic the Carters have and every single one of them is genuinely a good person. This was Quincy and Hollis’s book and it was a great way to start the series.
Quincy and Hollis meet when she sadly learns that her best friend died all because of a famous comedian. Later they meet again because said comedian issues a restraining order on her. He then followed her around and they started dating.
I loved Quincy and Hollis’s dynamic, they had this great banter between them and their relationship felt really natural. I loved how both of them just accepted the other into their lives. And how Quincy defended her from her jerk of a family.
The only thing I would change was the whole thing with Taite the comedian because it felt so sudden at the end when he was just arrested. You know I love it when something bad happens to the girl and the guy goes feral. And I just thought that was lacking in this book.
But it made up with the epilogue because that was so so cute. And if I still like the book even if it was a bit boring that means it was really good.
I’m really excited for this series because there are some good couple set ups.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
I loved reading this book. It is one of those books that you can't lay it down once you pick it up. This is the story of Quincy and Hollis. This book really grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go until the end. These two are so perfect for each other. Hollis is a woman on a revenge mission. I can't really blame the girl and you have to read to see why. She is very much going to say what comes to mind and she will crack you up at times. She is grouch and blunt and lived through a lifetime of pain. However the more you get to know her the more that you see there is a sweet woman that rarely shines through. Quincy is sticking his nose in places it doesn't belong. The turn of events will surprise you and have you laughing a little too. He is a guy who commits to things once he starts them and he loves his job. It's his life actually. When he meets Hollis he knows that she is his. His to protect and one day love. You are going to fall so hard for them. I loved every single second of this book. And like I said I couldn't lay it down.
Loved every delectably delicious moment! Lani Lynn Vale is delighting her readers with a brand new Carter Brothers series kickoff that is a loose spin-off from her Welcome to the Circus series that just came to an end as ringleader Keene married into the Carter family. The plot is thick with angst right from the start when we meet Quincy and Hollis. He's a cop, she works at the hospital and sparks fly the second their eyes meet. Lots of emotion and drama unfolds quickly in the build-up to their relationship blossoming. I loved the depth of feeling that Vale displayed as pinnacle moments played out, and couldn't have loved these two together more. I'm looking forward to more to come in the series! Great characters, a compelling plot and a passionately pleasing love story!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a close-knit family as a supporting cast as each sibling finds their forever love. This family has been through a lot and emotions are high. This particular book may trigger some, so read the blurb closely if concerned.
So excited for the Carters to get their own books! After getting to know the Carter siblings through Keane’s book in the last series, and I was so excited to see where LLV took these characters! The first one up is Quincy, and his journey to love is rather hilarious. He meets Hollis after having to give her notification of her best friend’s death, and it sparks them continuing to meet when Hollis goes after the person responsible in various ways via stalking. I loved that as a couple they really contradicted each other, with Quincy being a cop and Hollis getting a restraining order put on her for the stalking, but it made for such a great read. I also loved that Quincy was very protective and caring towards her, especially regarding her family and the way they treated her. I love LLV’s books – they are romance mixed with suspense and comedy all wrapped into one, and I can’t get enough! I can’t wait for the next Carter brother, especially because of the level of comedy they already provide! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is another phenomenal start to another addicting new series and I can't wait to read the Carters stories!
After meeting the Carter Brothers in LLV last series Welcome to the Circus and Im already 100% invested in them.
This once features Quincy, the oldest of the Carter siblings and detective. When he meets Hollis whilst doing his job he can't help but be drawn to her as there is something about her that draws him in and prevents him from arresting her, even when she is stalking and almost breaking restraining orders!
Hollis, oh I loved her! after having her heartbroken when her best friend ends her life after being ripped apart by a famous comedian she is all out for revenge and will do anything to make him pay. Oh my heart broke for her and I was cheering her on with her stalking endeavours!
This one was brilliantly written and quite the emotional rollarcoaster! quite a few tears were shed by me at the beginning. This was filled with family, friendships, humour, grief, healing, love and beautiful chemistry.
I can't wait to see how the rest of this series is going to play out.
I was gifted a copy of this book by the Author and this is my honest opinion
In Lani Lynn Vale's latest series, the narrative introduces a mix of new characters alongside familiar faces, starting with a poignant opening that leaves the reader emotionally moved. Hollis, a complex character with a prickly exterior, harbors justified resentment due to past family mistreatment and the loss of a significant person in her life.
Quincy, equally compelling, finds himself drawn to her despite their seemingly incompatible backgrounds—him being a cop and her teetering on the edge of legality. Quincy's protective instincts kick in, leading him to subtly keep an eye on Hollis, and despite their contrasting circumstances, their connection is immediate and undeniable.
Their chemistry sizzles, but it's their compatibility beyond the physical that solidifies their bond. Quincy's family adds humor and depth to the story, leaving readers eager for more as the series unfolds, making it a promising start to what is anticipated to be an exceptional series by Vale.
I absolutely loved this first book in LLV new series. I definitely want a friend like Hollis. I loved that she would do anything for her best friend.
The meeting between her and Quincy wasn't the best first meet, but they definitely left an impression on both of them.
When Quincy met Hollis he knew that she was his type. Running into her again won't be a problem as it seems trouble seems to find her.
I loved Hollis and Quincy's story. I loved that Quincy stood up for Hollis with her family. I loved the fact that he has all these brothers (so you know each one will get his story ☺️) Hollis was the one who was the strong one, she was there for everyone and stood up for everyone, but she didn't have anyone to stand up for her. So I loved that she got someone like Quincy who was there for her.
Everything about this story got me hooked and Iam dying for the next one☺️
