"Meth Murder & Amazon" is a satirical suspense novel by G.S. Gerry that is both wildly chaotic and incredibly entertaining. From the moment I read the blurb, I knew this book was going to be unique, and it certainly lived up to my expectations. The disclaimer at the end, warning of potential catastrophic consequences, including death, only added to the thrilling rollercoaster ride I was about to embark on.
The writing style of the book is quirky and chaotic, which is typically something I would criticize. However, in this case, it seemed to perfectly align with the author's intended vibe. The characters, who are members of a family, are described in unusual ways (e.g., "The firstborn, standing teenager height, #13 the Great Jordini!!!"), which prompted me to suspend my usual expectations regarding grammar and conciseness. Instead, I decided to embrace the book's distinctiveness and enjoy it without overthinking. It was a fun and different experience, although I must admit that it had room for improvement.
While the concept behind the book is commendable, and there are many aspects I loved, such as the well-executed satire and the intriguing characters, I believe that toning down the chaos would have helped the story feel more cohesive. There were moments when I had to pause and gather my thoughts to fully understand what was happening, which detracted from the overall storytelling.
To summarize, I did enjoy "Meth Murder & Amazon" and would be interested in reading more from the author. However, I do think that the book could have been even better by striking a better balance between chaos and narrative focus.
A incredible masterpiece of literature told by a wonderful up and coming writer, G.S Gerry. Thank you to this amazing writer for crafting a true to life story that left me laughing all the way until the very end.
METH MURDER & AMAZON BY G.S. GERRY Have you tried selling a property of yours before? What were the challenges? How trustworthy was your agent? Indeed, it could be easy when you have the right people for you. Meth Murder & Amazon by G.S. Gerry is a fascinating thriller about a plan gone wrong that led to lots of things. I want to first introduce you to Mr. Grake, who has the qualities required of a responsible man and a citizen, namely that he is law-abiding and pays his tithe. He lives on Hershey Squirtel Lane, which is in a discreet location. Mr. Grake decided to venture into real estate and planned to sell his family home and purchase the next dream property. which implies buying low and selling high, which is the goal of those who are into real estate. Caffwe was contacted as the real estate agent for this deal. Unfortunately, he was a strong assassin. Now it begins to get interesting. What became of this deal, and would Mr. Grake dent his reputation and that of his family because of this deal? Grab a copy to find out. This is one of the most amazing books I have read in a while. At first, I felt reluctant to read this book, but when I started reading about Mr. Grake and his plans to sell his family house, and then I looked at the title of the book, I realized that this was going to be a long deal. Every moment of this book was captivating and filled with suspense. I also learned a lot from this book, especially as a prospective property owner. Another distinctive feature of this book was the humor. I laughed so much at different stages of this book. I would greatly commend the author for his captivating writing style. I was so calm and relaxed when reading due to the narrative approach and the word usage. I also loved how the author described Mr. Grake and his family and handled the situation. The book was properly edited. I had challenges keeping up with the names of other characters; for example, Caffwe was difficult to pronounce, and I would suggest an easier name for the characters. Aside from that, I don't see this as a very interesting and engaging read that one could spend time with. Therefore, I will rate this book five out of five stars. I would also recommend this book to those who are into real estate and property owners.

Author G.S. Gerry takes readers on a quirky and mind bending rollercoaster of an adventure in Meth Murder & Amazon. Readers follow a “normal” family who is trying to sell their home but have the worst luck. The shenanigans begin when the realtor, or as the Grakes call them the “assassins”, arrive to help sell their house. The Grakes are accused of murder but there is no body when the sheriff arrives, so did it really happen? Then they are accused of making meth in their garage due to the smell of burning plastic. Will the Grakes be able to overcome the chaos and sell their home?
This quirky urban thriller immediately caught my attention from the turn of the first page. Author G.S. Gerry’s unorthodox writing style had me wondering just what direction this intriguing story was headed in and what exactly did Amazon have to do with the plot.
I felt as though I was watching an energetic play, all while drinking too much caffeine. The pace of the story is quick, so make sure you pay attention because things happen quickly in a rapid series of events and if you’re not on your toes you could get lost. There is some pretty funny word play in here too. Like, “This is further muckin’ ridiculous,” I felt like this adds a lot of personality to the story to where it feels like it’s a character all it’s own, just like in author Lemony Snicket’s novels.
I felt sorry for the Grakes because all they wanted to do was sell their house and they just can’t catch a break. Even the weather intervenes when they go house hunting! I was able to relate to how things never seem to work out, but I liked how far it went, and how wild it can seem for the average person to be in that situation, just like in the show Breaking Bad. So, I think the author makes an excellent comparison to these two pieces of art.
Meth Murder & Amazon is a compelling and refreshing crime fiction story that will have you wondering what is reality and what isn’t. I highly recommend this humorous romp to those who enjoy a light-hearted and slightly bizarre story with added sound affects that will have you chuckling throughout.
G.S. Gerry's gripping novel Meth Murder and Amazon tells the story of a plot gone awry that resulted in a lot of things.I'd want to start by introducing you to Mr. Grake, who possesses the traits of a law-abiding citizen and responsible man—namely, paying his tithe. He resides in a quiet neighborhood on Hershey Squirtel Lane. The objective of individuals who invest in real estate is to buy low and sell high, as demonstrated by Mr. Grake's decision to sell his family home and acquire the next dream house. For this transaction, Caffwe was contacted as the real estate agent. Regretfully, he was a proficient assassin. It's starting to get intriguing now. What was the outcome of this transaction, and will Mr. Grake's and his family's reputations be damaged as a result?
One of the best books I've read in a long time is this one. I was hesitant to start this book at first, but as I read about Mr. Grake and his intentions to sell the family home, as well as the book's title, I understood that this would be a lengthy read. This novel was exciting and suspenseful from beginning to end. This book taught me a lot as well, particularly as a potential home owner. The comedy in this work was another unique aspect. I laughed so much throughout this book at various points. I would like to thank the author very much for his engaging writing style. Because of the narrative style and word choice, I felt so at ease while reading. I really admired the way the author handled the circumstances and gave a description of Mr. Grake and his family. The book was excellently edited.
I found it hard to keep up with the names of the other characters; Caffwe, for instance, was hard to say. I would recommend giving the characters simpler names. Apart from that, I do think this is a book that would be worth taking the time to read. I shall therefore give this book a rating of five stars. Anyone interested in real estate and property ownership should definitely read this book, in my opinion.
My ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review of Meth, Murder, and Amazon! Written by Multi Award Winning Author G.S. Gerry!
5.0 out of 5 starsVerified Purchase When Life throws you lemons, Add Humor to it! Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2024 Selling one’s home is “Normally” a pretty simple process.
First hire a realtor and allow them to walk you through the process. Second a sign is placed out front and the rest falls in place. Right?? Wrong!! Not in this case.
How about being accused of murdering your own child or even better, being accused of manufacturing meth in your home?!
And what does Amazon have to with this story?
Well I let you find that out!
Multi Award Winning Author G.S. Gerry tells his true story of this nightmare of shock and awe while creating a book that will make you laugh along the way.
Being an upstanding citizen, a loving husband, and an amazing father, his patience and faith is tested all the while, him and his family are thousands of miles away on vacation! A Humorous Must read!
When a book starts with that type of title, you know that there is going to be something absolutely absurd in this book. Brace yourself – it’s all true. How a family gets into all the shenanigans author G.S. Gerry regales readers with can only be described as “a series of unfortunate events.” Yeah, this book would make Lemony Snicket proud. It is easy to say that whatever you believe in: God, the Universe, Fate or something else entirely one fact is true. Someone somewhere out there in the ether… has an epic sense of humor.
Meth Murder and Amazon is the debut novel by G.S. Gerry, and the author really pulls out all the stops. As you read this book you are honestly going to think – “there is no way that some of these scenarios are actually true. It just can’t be!” Well, sometimes…life is stranger than fiction, and this story will strive to remind us all of that particular point.
Let’s preface this review with this little bit of food for thought – put your expectations aside. The author is going to take an unorthodox approach to telling this tale. The approach is to apply as much humor as possible to the tale. Is this an attempt to downplay some of the drama and “horror”? Not at all! It will simply go to better highlight some of the absurdity of some of the situations this family finds themselves dealing with.
As this family embarks on the “daunting” task of selling their home they are going to be faced with shady real estate agents, ridiculously ridiculous real estate agents, and then there are the ones that are more than tolerant of this family’s, especially Mr. Grake’s, shenanigans. Yeah, they go through quite a few real estate agents, but as you read – you’re going to understand exactly why.
This book’s disclaimer truly sets the stage for what you can expect moving forward into this book. Every single one of the people, businesses, and locations (yes, that includes states) is changed. The names that the author comes up with for each one – are hilarious. You’re sure to have your favorite by the end of the book, but my personal favorite was – Slashosaurus Max.
As this book proceeds, author G.S. Gerry gives readers a quick glimpse as to the “starting line-up” i.e. the family. Life seems good. Grake has a good job, a great family, now it’s time to accomplish that real estate dream of “buy low, sell high.” Take a moment and wish them luck, because they’re going to need it. LOL! What should have been a relatively simple process (with the right people it usually is) turns into a maelstrom of chaos. But honestly, none of this could have been known when they started.
Scattered throughout this book are a collection of photographs. Each photo contributes to the storyline by imparting more of what the author wants readers to better understand. Exactly what they are working with or dealing with depending on the situation. Either you’re getting a lovely view of the house, or getting an “insider glimpse” at the infamous “scene of the crime.”
This book packs it on heavily when it comes to hilarity and humor. There are going to be scenes that will see your brows dropping along with your jaw. The scene in the Titan with the police pulling them over? OMG! The way that they (the police) describe what they witnessed – will literally have you flabbergasted and then howling with laughter. It would take a stretch of the imagination to make up what they claimed they saw. Odds are that is probably the most hilarious moment in this entire book.
You’re wondering about the murder though, right? Let’s be real. That WHOLE situation from beginning to end is bizarre, hilarious, and just downright ridiculous. The individuals involved…you’d think that it was some sort of skit gone wrong the way it all plays out. This family gets accused of murder!!! Murder!?! But who they are accused of murdering is what throws it all out the window into “Absurd-ville.”
Meth Murder and Amazon are guaranteed to have you laughing more often than not. The drawback of this book, and how you know it’s not a work of fiction is the entire meth situation. It ends up coming off as over-hyped. You try to tamp down your expectation of what’s coming. However, that in and of itself is difficult to do when the author keeps dropping “meth-tastic” cue words. LOL! The expectation builds that while the family has been out of the house someone has come along, taken advantage, and done something truly heinous. No such luck…or misfortune. Granted, that’s honestly a good thing because it would have only made matters 100x worse for them.
The meth aspect of the story isn’t as loaded as the “murder” situation. It’s a nothing burger. While this is disappointing, it emphasizes that this is not a work of fiction. Because what author would refuse to take THAT situation and not make something more of it?? None! Any and every author would think “I need to make this more dramatic, so let’s embellish it.” So, we can applaud the author for keeping it real and not “meth”-ing around too much with the truth. LOL!
Of course, it doesn’t end there. The crazy goes on for six months. Six months of hoping, being disappointed, making plans, worrying that something worse is going to happen, and unintentionally adding more drama to their plates. You will wonder how they managed to make it through all of this with their sanity intact. We all know not everyone would be capable of that.
It’s not every day that someone can take what should have been a simple task of selling a house, and find themselves embroiled in a real-life Lemony Snicket story, but G.S. Gerry managed exactly that.
Pros: Hilarious Page-turner Engaging writing style Dramatic Puny Cons: The meth and Amazon angles come off as over-hyped.
Lesson of the story: A simple “buy low, sell high” story of real estate becomes – just keep hanging in there! It can only get better from here. Right? Right?!
There is an age-old saying, that the worst mistakes are born from the best of intentions. This is the picture-perfect representation of Gerry's Meth Murder and Amazon. An absolutely hilarious and rib-cracking story of Mr. Grake, an everyday man who only sought to make it big in the real estate world, but sadly, he had no idea that G. S. Gerry had other plans thought out for him.
Meth Murder and Amazon is the story of everyday individuals, told from the most comic point of view you can possibly imagine. Derald Grake and his family had the innate desire to cash out big when they put their family house on sale. I'm sure they were already raking in their profit mentally and planning a huge vacation with the payday money, however, the bitter pill that is reality had something else in store for them.
In a story that encompasses the best of emotions, this novel combines hilarity with contemporary stories of everyday people, such as a family battling hard to sell off their want away home, their encounters with a wide range of characters, and their involvement in a murder investigation, albeit, without making any headway in their attempt to get any buyers for their on sale house. There are no words to begin to describe the comic relief that the author packed like a punch, into this story.
One of the most eye-catching details about this book is how Gerry (the author) represents the characters in a simple but very funny manner. The novel is a comic relief masterpiece, yet it is totally relatable to everyday events in the lives of simple folk. While many people tend to view this as a comedy novel, I see it as more. I see this as a story of our regular lives, told from a less than serious and rigid point of view, and I honestly believe that this is what makes Meth Murder and Amazon not just relatable, but enjoyable.
Summarily, I can't recommend this book enough for everyone. There's no audience that G. S. Gerry's novel would not be an amazing read for. Lovers of humor, intrigue, suspense, and even regular everyday stories, told with amazing and enchanting plot twists. I'm truly delighted to have read this pulsating work of literary ace, and I can't wait for other works by Gerry.
Never in my reading experience have I come across a book so humorous and satirical. G. S Gerry shades a picture of an imaginary world of a family of six desperately trying to sell their house whilst in search of another. He adopts the use of humorous choice of words in place of names such as Sergeant Shredded, the wife of Mr. Grake, and Dawbee Snoopy, a land agent.
How Gerry manages to formulate his own unique writing style is yet another aspect that beats my imagination. It was simple yet confusing. The confusion is another driving force that compels you to keep reading.
In Meth Murder, this award-winning author breeds curiosity on every page. Especially basking on his constant use of literary devices such as onomatopoeia, euphemism, and hyperbole. All these make every line easy to relate to. Did I forget to mention the pictures which even seasoned up the pages the most? Gerry did not simply create a figurative picture, he blended it with literary pictures that tie you to the book. I just kept going on and on.
Unlike most storylines that involve one villain or antagonist, Gerry in his unique writing style made more than one. Slashosaurus Max, Annette Corvette, and Caffwe played their given role of antagonists sequentially.
I must also point out the fact that G.S. Gerry was cautious with his words and language making it utterly suitable for all readers. His humorous lines are just exhilarating. Have I called this piece humorous too often? Forgive me. His humor really did intoxicate me. I also admire how the chapters and story in general weren't too lengthy. Its conciseness is noteworthy and imperative not to bore the readers out.
Overall, lovers of satire and humor will find Meth Murder enthralling. That being said, I'll give it a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
Living your dream life is right about the ultimate pursuit of your existence right
Living your dream life is right about the ultimate pursuit of your existence right?
For Derald Grake, it couldn't be simpler. Sell off the old family house at a profit and look to buy another, which he just might sell even higher. It's the perfect business idea isn't it.........?? However, as life has often shown us, it doesn't deal you the best hand of cards.
A truly exhilarating "methacoaster", Gerry's Meth Murder and Amazon makes for great comic relief.
The story of how Mr. Grake's simple quest to venture into real estate, escalated to an assassin real estate agent, murder, drugs and amongst all the chaos, the frustration of no bids on the said property.
You might think of it as a tragic story, but wait until you've read Meth Murder and Amazon, and you'll be amused at how wrong you've guessed.
One of the spectacularly funny things about this G. S. Gerry masterpiece, is his never ending sense of humour, and it shows in nearly every aspect of the book. The names of the characters, especially a certain Sergeant Shredded and a young GaRoot; the reactions of a frustrated Derald Grake, every time his property came up short of bids; and of course the panel of judges upon hearing Mr. Grake's tale of his misadventures.
The one thing this book doesn't have, is a dull moment, and that's credit to an author with a thrill ride of a mind.
Sadly, all good things come to an end, and so too does Gerry's book, but while you'll run out of pages to turn, you'll never run out of spasms of laughter when you remember the name G. S. Gerry, and his absolute knock out of a novel, Meth Murder and Amazon.
It's definitely one book everyone should read, especially to unwind and have a good laugh, and for sure, it's definitely one book I'll read again.
For anyone that has sold, or is considering selling your house, “Meth Murder & Amazon” is a hilariously relatable and yet extremely outrageous read. Mr. Derald Grake lives on a charming cul-de-sac, Hershey Squirtel Lane. Looking to join the millions of other families that buy and sell homes every year, he decides to throw his home in the ring, seeking to sell high and buy low as his family moves to the Shred Shine State to be closer to MemeMa who suffers the dreaded jellybean disease – see what I mean from outrageous and yet relatable?
The title “Meth Murder & Amazon” says it all as Mr. Grake’s attempt to sell his house encompasses meth, murder, and yes even Amazon. The absolute insanity of the many attempts to get his house sold for even $4.89 includes the ever-relatable cleaning, prepping, listing photos, descriptions, all of it is stressful yet seemingly necessary steps. Author G. S. Gerry takes such a serious and taxing real-life process, which millions of people embark on annually, and writes in such a manner that makes it fun, hilarious, and something you can’t take too seriously. Despite all the shenanigans within “Meth Murder & Amazon,” this book is simultaneously relating to literally everything within.
From the names of the characters, like his wife Sergeant Shredded, to the state they currently live in, The Sky Scrapin’ State, to the realtors aka assassins hired, like Dawbee the Snobby, everything is over the top. Written in an enjoyable and easy to get sucked into way, readers will laugh their way through each and every page of Gerry’s humorous, real-life nightmare.
A cleverly written satire that will have you laughing out loud! Meth, Murder & Amazon, by G.S. Gerry, is a tremendously hilarious satire - plucking a piece of "normalcy" about life and turning it inside out; moreover, it is inspired by true events. This story is all about Mr. Grake and his family attempting to sell their home and relocating to start a new chapter. The events that ensue, as bizarre as they may seem, in fact, are completely believable, because they are rooted in reality, not fiction. This is one of the most inventive, quirky and uniquely written stories I have had the honor of reviewing. The writing style is witty and creative - as is its vocabulary. The author cleverly picks up on the common beartraps awaiting home sellers, the shady and corrupt agents, the endless and exhausting showings, the sacrifices and compromises made along the way, all of it encapsulated in a narrative that is so funny and entertaining to read that you simply cannot help but laugh throughout the book. This is an enjoyable read for anyone no matter your preferences, and if you are a survivor of the house market or intend to swim those waters someday, you might find yourself identifying with the plight of the Grakes; but certainly compelled to finish the book to the end to see if they finally escape the maze or if they are swallowed into the maws of the beast.
This was a truly humorous and captivating read. The author’s use of outrageous modern-day horrors and criminal activity to mirror the process of selling a home, keeping your family together, and making a place in the world that is forever changing and becoming more and more cutthroat, made this a truly stellar read filled with imagery and atmosphere that made it easy to get lost in.
What stood out to me was the author’s unique writing style. Instantly the writing becomes unique, with purposely misspelled words and phrasing of the characters’ names and places that keep the world abstract while also giving readers a sense of relatability to the protagonists. The almost poetic style of writing also really spoke to me, as it showcased the artistry and connectivity of both the narrative and the themes themselves.
The Verdict
Memorable, captivating, and engaging, author G.S. Gerry’s “Meth Murder & Amazon” is a must-read suspense thriller that meets humorous dark comedy with a PG feel to the narrative. The twists and turns in these characters’ journeys and the poetic nature of the author’s writing style really keep the reader invested in these powerful themes and moving words.
G.S. Gerry creates a funny, tongue-in-cheek family journey in selling and buying a house. Anything that can go wrong will, period. This satire has a family who can’t seem to catch a break with finances, spending, family, or relaxing. At times it felt like a moving target followed the family, their home, and everything in between, yet endless possibilities kept moving them toward their goal. The crazy words and hidden messages ranged from hysterically funny to wow, no kidding. Absurd roadblocks have the family under investigation, fighting lawsuits and making enemies of their few friends.
Mr. Gerry spared no sacred areas of privacy, sugarcoating, or family discretion. The narration by Jacob Reece was a mix of sounds, drawn-out words, and pregnant pauses. There were absurd scenarios to make listeners laugh aloud or bent on guessing the following line before delivery. There were no issues with the audiobook quality, though it became tedious in a few places.
This creative tale of woe gives listeners surprise, shock, laughs, sobering thoughts of family strife, and no reason to escape before the unforgettable, unique experience ends. I recommend this to those who want to recall lines to laugh about for months.
"How could selling the family home in suburbia coincide with a murderous ‘meth-tastic’ thrill ride that will leave you shell-shocked and thirsty for more?" Derald Grake is about to find out. All he has always wanted was to sell the family home and buy his next property. Of course, he is living the family dream — a good job at Amazon, four children, and he pays his taxes. His dream of buying low and selling high soon sets him and his family on a perilous journey that involves assassins, meth, and murder.
Meth Murder & Amazon (A Humorous Real Life Nightmare) by G. S. Gerry is a suspenseful tale that is filled with intrigue and humor. The internal dialogues and the deft use of streams of consciousness provide a vivid portrait of the psyche of the protagonist. The narrative voice is strong and the author has a dramatic way of presenting events. I enjoyed the short sentences, the timely paragraph breaks, and the punctuation that reflects the workings of the minds of the characters. The conflict is strong and it is crazy to imagine how the sheer desire to sell a home can quickly plunge a family into multiple dangers. This book is hilarious, and a page-turner.
‘What began as a trivial exercise of selling the first family home…’ Uproariously funny!
Florida author G.S. Gerry earned his degrees in computer information systems and in cybersecurity and information assurance from Regis University, served in the US Navy, and is a cybersecurity expert. He makes his literary debut with METH MURDER & AMAZON - and what a debut it is!
Gerry’s unique writing style - inserted remarks during the story delivery, intentional bizarre spelling in places, funny names, acronyms, and word choices - adds dimension to this story (based on fact!) about a family’s experience with placing a house on the market and the myriad surprises and incidents that propel the tale to an often treacherous but hilarious conclusion. It is almost a ‘spoiler’ to review this book, as the manner in which the novel unfolds is part of the magic of reading it. Jump on for one terrific ride as G.S. Gerry opens the curtain on a new aspect of his career. Very highly recommended. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book
Meth Murder & Amazon by G.S. Gerry is definitely an interesting ride. It is written in a unique way so different form many other books I have read in the fiction satire genre. The way he writes does resemble that of Lemony Snicket. Which is crazy in itself and yet, he does a superb job of catching the reader's attention. HIs humor and fun side show throughout his style of writing. He quickly introduces the characters in a dramatic and theatrical way. The title took me by surprise. I instantly think of nonfiction before reading the book's blurb. After reading the blurb, I grew more curious by the title. Once I began to read the book, it dawned on me how the book got its title after all. Also, the way the book is structured one knows there is going to be trouble. A lot of trouble will be happening in the book. The scenes are go from a happy setting to downhill in no matter of time. I laughed outright at the craziness of it all, and yet I enjoyed reading this book.
I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.
Not a great book. Hard to follow and lots of replacing that is happening with other words. Seems like nonsense and if you are looking for different this may be for you.
Too hard to follow ended up DNF. The replacement of words was so confusing and hard to keep up with. I was honestly excited to read it but after getting almost half way in I couldn’t do it anymore.
G.S. Gerry tells the story of his adventures of trying to sell his house and buy a new one. As one interested in purchasing my first home, this is a cautionary tale of everything that can go badly. The events are so ridiculous, they are almost like a caricature of real life and the writing reflects the absurdity. The author conveys his frustration but keeps it PG. The story flows well and feels like one of your friends conveying a really bad day.
Meth Murder & Amazon is a brilliantly unique, and memorable mystery novel with a comedic twist that will take its readers on a shocking but brilliant journey! The reader in Meth Murder & Amazon will be thrust into the story quickly and will meet Derald Grake, the patriarch of his family as his life quickly unravels when he decides to sell his family home with disastrous and hilarious consequences! "Comic Relief Parallels Family Drama! Apart from the fact that these situations are factual, this family took lemons, and made lemonade. Then they took the lemonade and brought the world some comic relief. G. S. Gerry's impressive writing style and keen sense of humor will leave you wanting more. G. S. uses absurdity, avoiding the pitfalls of cursing, and draws each reader into a roller coaster of the unthinkable. Personally, I can hardly wait until G. S. Gerry writes his second-best seller!" - Book Marketing Global Network
