Matthew Kelly is a best-selling author, speaker, thought leader, entrepreneur, consultant, spiritual leader, and innovator.
He has dedicated his life to helping people and organizations become the-best-version-of-themselves. Born in Sydney, Australia, he began speaking and writing in his late teens while he was attending business school. Since that time, 5 million people have attended his seminars and presentations in more than 50 countries.
Today, Kelly is an internationally acclaimed speaker, author, and business consultant. His books have been published in more than 30 languages, have appeared on The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestseller lists, and have sold more than 50 million copies.
In his early-twenties he developed "the-best-version-of-yourself" concept and has been sharing it in every arena of life for more than twenty-five years. It is quoted by presidents and celebrities, athletes and their coaches, business leaders and innovators, though perhaps it is never more powerfully quoted than when a mother or father asks a child, "Will that help you become the-best-version-of-yourself?"
Kelly's personal interests include golf, music, art, literature, investing, spirituality, and spending time with his wife, Meggie, and their children Walter, Isabel, Harry, Ralph, and Simon.
Thought-provoking and inspirational. The book is paced for the period of Lent, but would work any time of the year. I might revisit this book next year.
This Lenten devotional is an excellent read. It is a collection of excerpts from Matthew Kelly's book Rediscover Catholicism: A Spiritual Guide to Living with Passion & Purpose. But built around the weeks of Lent the focus each week is as follows:
Confession Daily Prayer The Mass The Bible Fasting Spiritual Reading The Rosary
It has an appendix with the list of Sunday readings for each of year A, B, and C. So has the breakdown of reading through until 2022. Matthew writes in such a friendly easy to read engaging style that you can't help but keep reading. So far this year I have read three of his books and have a few more in my two be read pile. In this volume each day has a list of bible readings for the day, a focus verse a longer reflection, a short meditation and then a prayer to tie it all together.
On Ash Wednesday, the first day of the devotional Matthew states "I find myself needing to turn back to God many times a day, in ways small and large. It is not a matter of guilt and it is not a shameful thing. It is simply that at his side I am a better person-a better son, husband, father, brother, friend, employer, and citizen. Over time, I have also come to realize, quite painfully, that when I turn away from God I am also turning my back on my true self." And that is the note that kicks off our journey. Then journeying for almost forty days on Good Friday he declares "Are we willing to change? I hope so. Almost every person I speak to about the future of Catholicism says, "The Church really needs to change," or something to that effect. What we perhaps forget in making this statement is that we are the Church, and so the real question becomes: Are you willing to change? Am I willing to change?" And to be honest if you read through this book, in prayer and meditation you will be changed. Changed by the word of god, and changed by your own prayers.
This was one of five devotionals I read through Lent in 2016. I know I will come back to it again and I highly recommend it. I have read it a second time in 2022.

Read the review on my blog Book Reviews and More. Also other reviews of books by Matthew Kelly.
Best time to read this book is during Lent, however, the messages can apply to any time of the year. The daily scripture, reflections, meditations followed by a prayer is the perfect way to learn and grow spiritually. Makes one think and definitely want to work on being the best version of themselves. Highly recommend.
I used this as a daily Lenten devotional from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday 2022. Although, at times, I find Kelly's writing rather repetitious, ("best-version-of-yourself" ad-nauseam), I still found these daily reflections helpful in growing in my faith during the Lenten season.
Thank you, Mr. Kelly for your wonderful evangelization through your writing. I am sure you touched thousands upon thousands of souls, and God will greatly reward you for it.
Great reading for Lent or anytime of the year. Helps keep you focused on the Lenten period. if you want to do a truly memorable Lent and want to see transformation this is the reading companion for you.
This is the best book I have ever read for Lent. Each day is an insightful reading with extras. It's clear, concise, thought-provoking and hopeful. Wowzah! Highly recommended.
Fabulous read! I especially enjoyed the Tridium section. I highly recommend it for super busy people trying to squeeze a few minutes of meaningful spiritual reading.
