Priest Gunnar of Temple Rinn has always longed to be known, to be important. As he and his flock at the base of Mouth Endirinn await a prophecy; it arrives holding something much different than they were expecting.
This is the prologue of Daughter of the Sun followed by the first short story of the world of Mothmar. This story is canon.
Amanda Auler lives in Sanford, North Carolina with her husband and four growing boys. Though Amanda writes for every audience, her roots in Christianity shine through her work as she explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and grace. When she's not writing you can find her baking cookies, drinking too much coffee, and staying up past her bedtime to watch anime with her husband.
I have now joined the growing fan base of Scribe, now Priest, Gunnar. He’s probably my favorite out of the Mothmar characters..! (Can we get an entire novel with him as an MC?!) He’s just got so much character!
Quotes:
"… people are more important than tradition." (Love that!)
“He held the last bow and peered up as sweat dripped into his left eye; it closed of its own accord, causing him to wink. Barda blushed and gave a small wave.” (Dude, that cracked me up so much, I laughed out loud🤣)
Am I counting this towards my 2024 reading goal? You bet your ass 🤣
Amanda brings us back to Mothmar with an intriguing short story. I loved the characters and world building in this story. It delves more into the spirituality of Mothmar and how prophecies can be interpreted. That is probably a nod and wink to the Mothmar Trilogy and will maybe play a part in the third book.
Gunnar’s character was so impactful in his short time in Daughter of the Sun. I really wanted to know more about his life! I’m so happy that we have his story! He’s so real and relatable, and the ending had me really thinking. I loved it❤️ Thanks Amanda!
A wonderful addition to the Mothmar world, it was a joy to see where Gunnar ended up and how he helped. I love that this story came FULL circle in such a fantastic way. 🤣 Like some prophecies were always meant to be exactly as wrong as they were in order to be right. 🔥
Great introduction into the world of Mothmar! Gunner was such an interesting character even in the short time we get to know him. Definitely recommend reading this short story and then diving into the rest of the Mothmar world!
This is a well written short story. Amanda Auler has beautifully captured the essence of the world of Mothmar. This is a wonderful back story to the Mothmar Trilogy. I recommend reading this story before reading Daughter of the Sun.
4 stars. This is one of the best short stories I have ever read. A lot of times the short story I feel like there's not enough depth to the characters or things move too quickly I didn't have either of those problems with this book. Gunner was such a great main character. The incorrectly written prophecies and everything that happened with that was so interesting. I just loved the characters. And the descriptions in the story were wonderful. You could really tell that Amanda has spent so much time building up the world because it was so immersive. If this had been a full-length novel it would have been five stars which makes me so excited to go into Amanda’s other books.
What an excellent short story. (And writing concisely is not an easy thing to do!) It pulls you into the world of Mothmar. If you're already familiar with Mothmar from Daughter of the Sun or Children of the Earth, then you'll be delighted to get some of the background of the prophecy that features so prominently. If you haven't had the chance to visit Mothmar yet, this is the perfect introduction!
It was a pretty funny short story that has me saving the trilogy into my TBR list. I can’t wait to see how his prophecy comes to fruition and if his farce comes to light.
What an exercise in concision! I don't know if I've ever enjoyed writing something more. Huge thanks to my favorite editor in the world, Eva Campney, who has taught me so much. I don't think I have a dedication page in this but if I did it would be... For Eva. The themes sing because of you.
