Fate's Wicked Trials is book 2 of the Scythian Chronicles.
I really loved this book! If I'm being honest it's better than book 1. I absolutely couldn't put this book down, and I'm super excited to read book 3! I think the author did a fantastic job writing this book, it held my attention from page one. So many great characters, and the storyline draws you in. The ending has me needing book 3 in my life ASAP! Run don't walk and add this to your TBR!
As always don't forget to read trigger warning if they may effect you!
Fate’s Wicked Trials by Jessica Lane is so incredible I not only started it the same day I finished book one (A Cruel Game of Fate) I also completely finished it as well. I cannot remember a time in recent memory or as an adult at all that I have been so captivated by a book series I finished the entire thing in not just a single day but one consecutive sitting. Lane was very successful at continuing the dynamic character development and growth I loved from book one. Every character whether primary or secondary is layered, has depth, and completely unique personalities that are each vital to their group. The FMC and MMC in particular go through dynamic experiences in both books; their ability to connect is another favorite of mine. One thing I was really excited to see expanded in book 2 was the types of mythologies. I do not want to list them as I found it to be a fun surprise, however from my very limited knowledge I was excited to see details I could pick out and ones I was more curious to learn. Lane’s writing of the plot with all the excitement of an epic myth did not disappoint. The reveals and twists that occur within the story are exciting and propel the story forward in unexpected ways reminiscent to the trickster ways of folklore storylines. The ending of the book also sets up a sequel that I for one cannot wait for! I highly recommend reading this series.
I loooove a good set of trials 😍 I don't think I've ever disliked a book with this trope lol. Watching the MCs be literally put to the test and come out on top makes for good reading in my opinion! I can't help but love these characters. Fenryn is a boss FMC: so strong, independent, and compassionate! And Marron can have my whole heart lol. He makes me swoon more than any other book boyfriend 🥰 the banter is top notch! My favorite parts of this book were the flashbacks / back stories. That insight into the characters' pasts broke my heart and made me fall in love with them all even more. Pregnancy trope is one of my least favorites, but it's not a deal breaker. The time hopping at the end actually got me excited to see how Revna plays into this next book, although I hope we still get a lot of cute Ryn/Marron scenes. I couldn't give this book 5⭐ because I felt like a couple of the action scenes could have been explained more thoroughly. I had to reread a couple scenes and still felt kind of confused. Each author has their own rules for magic systems, so I don't like to assume anything, I'd prefer the author dumb it down for me lol.

Thank you to Jessica Lane for the chance to ARC read! This was so much more than the first book. I could not put it down. I absolutely love Fenryn and Marron. The use of all the different gods from around the world is my favorite. The world building is amazing in this installment. We get more backstory and history with some of our characters. There is spice but it does not overload the story. We have a new character introduced and he may just be my favorite… the ending isn’t so much a cliffhanger but it leaves me with wanting more. I cannot wait to purchase the physical copy!

“You are not some broken and volatile thing, Princess. You are whole despite your trauma, and I want to love you for who you are, as you are. Your body tells the story of how you f’n survived. Be proud of what you have accomplished. Many would have died in your position. Your will and your strength are paramount.”
For those who pay attention to how long it takes me to read things, trust me, this is definitely a weekend or full-day read and not an over-a-month read. It will keep you turning pages and going insane because you have to do the whole life thing, desperate to hop back into it.
I don't think my heart has ever pounded so hard from cover to cover, what a ride that was! In a very good way.
Jessica Lane takes character development to a whole new level, allowing us to watch them grow and get to know them on a deeper level to the point where you may wish you could jump in and get a piece of the action. The one character I enjoyed getting to know more about was Marron as we got to get a look at his past.
The relationship development between Ryn and Marron is beautiful, from the moments that are shared to them proving how strong their bond is, I need so much more of them!
To see and watch our two beloved characters from book one, Fenryn and Marron grow and become who they are meant to be in book 2, left me shook!
I can not get over the way the trials were handled in this one. And to think that this all could have been prevented had people kept their noses out of other people’s business! Haha.
I guess you could say judging by the very end, curiosity did kill the cat! Haha what an amazing story, and with one hell of a surprise ending. I’ve never been so excited for a 3rd book in my life!!
Jessica you did it again! You are an amazing author and the way these characters were brought to life has been an adventure I felt I was right there with them on! I can’t wait to see what you do with book too!
Until then,
I’ll see you in the next one! ;)

The only problem I had with this book is that it wasn’t long enough!! Only 21 chapters and it easily could’ve been a 600 page book in my opinion. I have fallen deep into the world of Norse mythology through the Scythian Chronicles and I’m obsessed with these characters and how each story winds back together. This book will make you feel all the feels: heartbreak, frustration, fear, shrill joy and happy tears. Jessica Lane brings ancient gods to the new world and relates the reader with common new age references and characters you could be friends with in real life. I could stay in this realm forever!
"Because when I met you at Margot's, all I could see was my future, Ryn. I knew immediately I would do whatever it took to be yours"
My head is spinning after finishing book two, I can't stop thinking about it. When I started reading I expected an adventure but Jessica Lane goes over and above and delivers adventures full of spice, war, gods/Goddesses, shifters, fated mates and so much more! I can't say to much because I refuse to spoil it but I can say I look forward to having her books on my shelf.
I had the honor of ARC reading Fates Wicked Trials by Jessica Lane. This book was a wild ride from start to finish. The character development from book one to this was was amazing. This author has a way of creating these characters that tug and pull at your heart strings. She makes you fall in love with them. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen next, I was wrong; and I’ve never been so happy to be wrong. Fenryn is strong, and a complete badass. She survived the worst of the worst and came out on top. I can’t wait to see what happens in book three.
What can I say? Jessica Lane did it again! I enjoyed this book even more than the first in the series. I love the flashbacks and the deeper understanding we get of the characters while still immersing us in a world where all of the gods have to find a way to get along (or not). I was enraptured by this book. I could barely tear myself away on my lunch deals and found myself staying up to read far past my bedtime. I also annoy wait to get my hands on book 3!
I read the second book within a whole weekend! And it did not disappoint at all! It left off where the first book ended. It was a fast read but an enjoyable read as well! This book had me in my feelings from frustration with the characters to crying with them and then smiling. To be honest I wish I could forget the book just to reread it again. Definitely a top book of 2024!! I can’t wait to read more from the author.
I love this series! The title is fun, the cover is eye-catching. There are bits of the story that are quite rushed. It's not a bad thing as it keeps the story flowing and you get the information you need, but I wish it was fleshed out more because I WANT MORE! I really enjoy the concept, it flows well, the characters are intriguing and the world building is amazing. Evan is still my favourite but I love all the characters. Ra is a close second! I definitely recommend!
While I loved the first book in the series, you can see the improvement going into this story. With this story we continue into the connection between Marron and Fenryn. I love each trial and the excitement of them. I also love the mixed mythologies. It added something special to this story. For those that like spice in their books this book added more spice than the first book. I can't wait to see what the fates have in store for all of the characters in the next book.
My mom mind is blown at how our two main characters fought through trails to stay together! The dedication of Marron towards Fenryn is heartwarming and absolutely beautiful. The trials were awesome and gave me ACOTAR vibes. However, I do wish there was a little more details for the last trial. I feel as though it was a bit rushed. I still loved this book and HIGHLY recommend this whole series to everyone!!
Book 2 did not disappoint. September cannot come soon enough. This wait for book 3 is going to be torture!!! I have no idea why these books are so good or why they work so well but they due. I am currently more invested in the future of these characters than I am in my own future. I’m hoping book 3 is at least 600 pages so I can absorb as much of their stories as possible.
I am blown away in a good way! This book had me turning the pages and not wanting to stop. Ryn and Marron’s relationship makes me so happy and the character development in this book is top notch. The spice is amazing and I need book 3 because I need to know what happens.
Fenryn and Marron return for quite the journey! I loved the aspects thrown into this one and have a new favorite character: Ra. More mythology pushed into this one and it's very intriguing. Can't wait for the 3rd book!!!!!
Ok, so I have to say I absolutely love this series!!!
I love the mix of all the gods, fates, norns, etc. I have honestly never read anything like this!!
This book is so many ways that it is different from book 1! I feel like the author got so much more confident in her writing styles and the stories coming!!!!
I LOVEEEE the spice in this book!!!! The spice in this book is absolutely perfect!!! I needed the spice from this author! It was all the sexual frustration from book 1 that got passed in book 2 spice!
In all honesty, this is an AMAZING series and an AMAZING book as an addition to this series! I 10/10 recommended to anyone looking for a fun fantasy read!
Favorite Quote: “I am no glamour, Princess. I am your goddamn mate. Now you are going to sit your beautifully fine ass down and allow me to tend your wound before I take you to the ground myself.”
This book picks up right where book one ends!! I love that you get to see Ryn and Marron prove their bond and seal the deal! I’m totally ready for a headstrong child to come into the mix!! Bring on book three!
I loved it! I loved learning more about Marron's past. The end of the book leaves me with wanting more. I'm excited to see what happens in the next book.
Soooo good! Them falling in love again was too sweet. I loved this story so much! I also can’t wait for book 3 so I’ll just be over here waiting impatiently.
4.5 stars rounded up to 5. This was another great read from Lane, I read book 1 a little while ago and I’ve been looking forward to reading this one ever since.
Fenryn is an amazing FMC, she has been through so much but always comes out on top & stronger. I love Fenryn and Marron’s relationship, a lot of fated mates books can fall into predictable and boring but that is not the case here, Lane does it fantastically. There is some spice but it’s not overwhelming. Perfectly done!
I did find the trials a little confusing at times which is the reason for the missing half a star, but it did not affect my enjoyment of the book and I can’t wait to read book 3!
