She's a Grinder was my first read by Tember Sapphire, and I loved it. I love sports romance books, and it's rare to find stories with diverse characters. Representation matters, and this book made my heart smile.

Catherine is the president of operations at a prominent sports agency in Canada. She hasn't visited her family in over ten years, which her Caribbean mother is unhappy about. As the eldest daughter, she is under constant pressure from her mother to settle down and start a family. Catherine values her independence, is career-oriented, and doesn't feel she needs a husband to live her best life. Her sister's wedding is coming up, and in anticipation of her mother bringing up Catherine's lack of dating, she plans to find a fate date to accompany her. Enter Tijjani Kyautu. He is a professional hockey player who happens to be her best friend's brother. In need of a new agent, Tijjani proposes he serves as Catherine's fake date in exchange for her assistance with his career.

I enjoyed Tijjani and Catherine together. They had great chemistry, and I loved their banter. Tijjani is great book boyfriend material. He was sweet, attentive, and exactly what Catherine needed. This story has well-developed characters, a great plot, swoony moments, and sizzling spice. I loved the inclusion of Caribbean and Nigerian cultural elements. She's a Grinder is an enjoyable read, and I can't wait to read more from Tember Sapphire.

Thanks to Tember Sapphire and Happily Booked PR for the eARC. Opinions expressed are my own.

This book kind of fell flat for me. I do appreciate what it’s trying to do but it honestly just felt like Deja vu from The Spanish Love Deception. You can see the effort that the author has put into these characters and the plot line but I just don’t think it blended well.

That said, I did finish the book and it wasn’t bad.

Catherine’s character, a strong and determined, career driven woman is good. She is powerful but it feels like she doesn’t have a personal it past her job. To me being career driven doesn’t mean that your whole character is your career, it just means that you prioritize your career and have goals set for yourself within that field.

Tijjani’s charcter seems way too immature for Catherine. When I’m reading his chapters I feel like I’m reading that of a 17 year old boy. He does have his moments where he surprises you and does some adult things within their relationship. He is very supportive and good at communicating what he is feeling.

As for the couple together, I don’t feel the chemistry. Maybe it’s because I didn’t personally feel a connection to these characters or something but I don’t see it between them. I understand opposites attract, I’m in one of those relationships. But I just don’t see these two being together in the long run. She’s too particular and powerful for his immature childlike nature.

This was a great first book for an introduction to sports romance. This book had a little be of everything reverse grumpy/sunshine, best friend's brother, fake dating, and some decent spice. I absolutely loved Tijjani! He's caring, protective and very adventurous both outside and inside the bedroom. Their relationship brought Catherine out of her self imposed shell.

is the chemistry in the room with us????

I was skeptical about this book from the prologue; I thought it was written weird to the point where my first note on this book was: not sold by the prologue, it feels like it’s written weird. But I decided to keep going because it was only the prologue and it surely wouldn't be written like that throughout right? wrong.

This is written so poorly and is overly formal to a point where it doesn't seem natural. I've never read a 1st person book that reads like 3rd person and I feel like that is a feat itself. It feels rigid and so wordy with loads of short sentences; it doesn't read like a natural turn of events. The writing is so stocky and it would be a miracle if I could find the chemistry between these characters because there is quite literally none. There's more chemistry between a toaster and a bathtub at this point.

You know when you use google translate and the translation is obviously not native? That’s how this is written.

Where is the hockey? We got the dregs of a game in the prologue and ever since, the MMC has gone out with the team once and it’s been the off season. Then the season comes back in the last 25% and we get the most rigid descriptions of the games that the whole book probably should have taken place during the off season.

There was no weight to the characters' 'I love you's. They kind just said it and it wasn’t a thing that they said it. I was taken aback by it because it came out of nowhere and the reasoning behind it is probably where their chemistry is hiding.

The MCs are meant to be famous but the lack of fan interactions or just mentions of people spotting them is basically non existent when they go out that I feel like it was an oversight from the author because nothing like this really happens until the last 25% of the book.

I genuinely cannot believe this is a book, lol. It reads like someone was outlining a book they wanted to write.

There is potentially potential in this book and it could not be a complete write off BUT it would benefit HUGELY from both developmental and line editing.

DNF’d at pg60.

The writing was super stocky, it didn’t feel edited and there wasn’t a flow for me at all.
I was getting no chemistry from the characters and for me personally it wasn’t worth continuing as was not bringing me joy.

Other people may genuinely read this and enjoy it but this is my year of only continuing reads that’s were bringing me joy.

YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS!! You are about to be taken on the ride of your life in She's A Grinder by the amazing Sapphire Tember. This is a scorching hot hockey romance.

We have our MMC Kyautu. He's a grinder with the Puck Kings Hockey Team. Suddenly, his career takes this hit, and Kyautu finds that not only has his career taken this hit, but his life is turned upside down at the same time. Not sure what else to do and just downright desperate for support as everyone else had abandoned him, or at least that's how he felt, Tijiani Kyautu turns to his best friend's sister, the one and only person he knew would be there for him.

Then we have our FMC Catherine. She hasn't been home in over ten years, something that hasn't made her Caribbean mother very happy. Rather, Catherine is happy to remain close to home in Canada, working as the president of operations of a prestigious sports agency.

Catherine remains under extreme pressure from her mother to get married and start a family of her own as she is the eldest of the family. Catherine, on the other hand, would rather focus on her career, and she values her independence too much. She doesn't believe that she really needs a husband at all to live her best life.

Her mom keeps reminding Catherine that her younger sister is getting married, and Catherine doesn't have a date yet. What her mom doesn't know is that Catherine has a plan to find a fake date for the event.
Tijiani learns that Catherine is in need of an escort to her sister's wedding and not only that he is looking for a new agent. So, he proposes that he serves as an escort to the wedding, and in return, Catherine can help him with his career.

Tijiani and Catherine together have amazing chemistry, banter, and tension. Tijiani is really a great fake boyfriend, proving that he would be a perfect real boyfriend. Not only that, but the more time the two spend together, the more Tijiani proves he is just what Catherine doesn't know she needs.

I love how well developed the characters are, and they all have such wonderful arcs. I love it when authors give even the minor characters the opportunity to shine and stand out. The characters are all swoon worthy and have swoon worthy moments.
The story is well developed with an awesome plot and sub-plot. The plot and sub-plots are all well developed, and time and thought is given to them all. They each weave together to give us the perfect storyline. This storyline is blended through the book and gives us this story that is just stunning, and there are no plot holes, and nothing is left out, and you don't feel like anything is missed.

You get just enough sizzling spice, and it is not overly done. While you get the graphic descriptions, it is not too much. It is not erotic and does not leave you wanting a cold shower, but it does leave you a bit warm, needing a fan to cool off.

I would highly recommend this book. This is such a great fake dating hockey romance. I love that there is a blend of ethnicities and that it is not whitewashed like so many books are these days. I absolutely loved this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes spicy books with sports and fake dating tropes. Just check your triggers.

Swoon-Check, Strong FMC-Check, Absolutely lovable MMC- Check, Spice- Double Check. This story has everything the pace is perfect. The connection with the characters has a natural flow due to him being her best friend’s brother.

Catherine the FMC is a strong independent woman she is career driven and is mature enough to know that with her focus on her career a relationship is not in the cards at this time. She also knows what she wants and what she deserves and won’t take anything less. Cath is also the oldest of her family and with that comes with it’s own pressures mainly to settle down and get married like her youngest sister. Which leads to her to look for a fake date for the wedding.

Tijjani the MMC is such a golden retriever so what happens to him in the beginning absolutely breaks your heart the more you learn about him and fall in love with him. He plays hockey and needs to find a new agent due to the circumstances. He also is the oldest child of his family and feels the pressures because he chose to go straight to the NHL instead of college so the scandal has his parents putting more pressure about his career. His sister Mjayy recommends he talks with Cath due to her being president of Hockey Operations at one of the top sport agencies.

Now Tijjani has always had a crush on Cath so when the opportunity arrives for the fake dating at her sisters wedding he jumps at the chance and goes all in. When I say all in I mean all in not only is it the sweetest but it is realistic the things he does for her. The chemistry between them is off the charts from the beginning she does try to resist but he makes it really hard. This was a great story I cannot wait to read more from Tember.

The beauty of reading a book that entertains you from beginning to end but leaves you with a message, that's a great read. The characters were endearing and made the story come alive. Catherine & Tijjani were charming and so were the supporting characters of the family ( the sisters). They displayed resilience, love, and support. The chemistry, tension, and relatable issues all gave the storyline depth and made it all easy to follow. A must-read!

This is a great intro book to sports romance. Catherine is a strong FMC who is career-driven and independent. She is proud that she doesn't need a man to make her feel complete. Relationships are not on her mind because she knows exactly what she wants and knows her goals. She doesn't want any distractions. She's the president of PR of her company and strives to be the best.

Tijjani is such a sweet golden retriever MMC. He's a hockey player who is looking for a new agent when is sister recommends her best friend. He's the oldest child who feels the pressure from his parents to get an education and settle down. He's always had a bit of a crush on his sister's best friend, Catherine, so when the opportunity opens up he jumps at it.

When Catherine needs a date for her sister's wedding, she drops a hint to Tijjani while discussing his new agent contract. Tijjani comes up with a plan to help her quiet her parents desire of her getting married too. He does everything as he can to make this perfect for Catherine and wants to spend as much time as possible to get to know her better and if Catherine develops feelings for him even better.

Tijjani swoons her over and over again. He listens to even her smallest interests and fulfills them. How can you not love that? The chemistry between them is insane and no matter how much Catherine resists Tijjani makes it harder and harder for her to resist.

The whole story is really cute and sweet. The characters are likeable and even relatable if you're the oldest. The book is spicy and adventurous. I also love how Tijjani never gave up all while giving Catherine the space and time that she needed. Another plus was that I loved how Temple added native language into her story. It adds a little something special to the story.

Another hit from Tember Sapphire! Stand alone series are quickly becoming my favorite. I always get excited when characters from previous stories make an appearance while I’m enjoying a complete different characters story. As the first born this story was extremely relatable, which created a deeper emotional connection to the story as I was able to truly empathize and understand the pressure felt by the FMC & MMC from their parents. Major kudos to the author for effectively portraying such a realistic and relatable struggle with the characters. I loved the main characters and their relationship. Catherine is an intelligent, powerful, career-driven, FMC that craves professionalism, organization and control. Tijjani is a passionate, attentive, pro hockey playing MMC that will steal your heart and dirty talk your pants off. Their relationship is perfection; the way in which he supports and cares for her, giving her the space to be herself but also encouraging her to let loose and take a chance on life is swoon worthy. I also enjoyed the impact Tijjani made on Catherine and how it / he encouraged her character growth, which was beautiful, empowering, and inspiring

One thing I didn’t like was the giant unprompted timeline jump, I felt like maybe I missed some important details and it took me a minute to figure out where we were and what was going on. Also, this is a me thing, but the majority of the time, after the dialogue was initiated by a character there was no additional cues throughout the dialogue to verify who was talking. This typically is fine and easy to follow if there’s just a couple lines going back and forth between characters. However, there were some lengthy scenes of dialogue that due to my ADHD and lack of cues I found it hard to follow, unsure of who was talking and had to go back to re-read multiple times in order to comprehend. Again, a me thing, but a fellow neurodivergent might like to know.

If you fake dating, public, hockey 🏒 romance, as well as, a strong, independent, Caribbean FMC with a determined, supportive, Nigerian MMC - then I would recommend this book to you.

She’s a Grinder is a hockey romance with a fake dating trope (and maybe something turning into more, you’ll have to read to find out) with her best friends brother. Catherine is a top agent for sports players and Tijjani is in need of a new agent due to unforeseen circumstances, Catherine is recommend by his best friend. This works perfectly as both are in a sticky situation and it serves the perfect chance for Tijjani’s little crush to become something more.

How do I explain how CUTE and SPICY this book is 😩 I loveee to see an independent girl going after her dreams but to also have the man beg for her, it had me kicking and swinging my feet.

We have it all hockey, best friends brother, fake dating, one bed(?!), he is literally on his knees for her and she is making him work.

Ok, so I read a lot European books and I think we all swoon over our Italian and Russian names BUT have we ever considered branching out and pushing the door open for other cultures because I want to hear Tijjani say Gimbiya forever, that’s the sweetest thing ever. Are you crazy.

I loved reading about a book with Nigerian and Caribbean culture, it was a new experience and I had a huge throwback to growing up with my sisters and her ex boyfriends cooking 🫠 you cannot beat Caribbean food.

This year has to be the year where we see more mainstream tropes with lesser used cultures - I want to see more POC writers, with these tropes and their cultures because whewwww was this something I needed without knowing it.

*Thank you, for the opportunity to ARC read this book! In exchange for an honest review *

Tropes; fake dating, hockey MMC, he falls first, player/agent, BFF brother, public play

I liked the characters themselves and most of the story was really awesome, it just felt like the end was drawn out and it wasn’t adding much after all the good stuff!

Catherine is a career oriented hockey agent exec, born in the Caribbean, she has power written all over her! She’s a badass, strong woman and I loved her! But she doesn’t do relationships

Tijjani is her best friends brother, star hockey grinder, and all around sweetheart. He’s protective and doting and he remembers everything she likes. He has always had a crush on Cath but never made the move! Some stuff happens so he needs a new agent and she agrees to get him in at her agency.

When she doesn’t have a date for her sisters wedding, she asks T to be her fake bf for the wedding and try to get her parents off her back. Classic “when are you going to settle down” parents
He uses it as an IN to show her what a good boyfriend he could be and that relationships aren’t so scary!

The whole story was so cute. I was glad to see Catherine bring down those walls and I loved that Tijjani just didn’t give up. And how much he adores his strong woman, doesn’t try to change her, doesn’t want her to sacrifice anything for him… just loves her. I like the use of the Hausa language for her nickname and some other little sayings. It bought another level to it and made it feel authentic.

The spice was pretty good as well, I’d say 3.5 🌶️ because it wasn’t that descriptive but it was adventurous! Public play for example 😉

Catherine Charles is about her business. She the president of hockey operations at Basically Unique sports agency. Catherine's best friend asks for help with her brother's search for a new agent after his agent stole his money. Tijjani Kyautu is a grinder for the Puck Kings. He has always liked Catherine and saw his opening when she was struggling to find a date for her sister's wedding. Tijjani to the rescue. He refuses to let Catherine make this deal strictly business. Tijjani is going to shoot his shot and take this chance to make Catherine Charles his.

Catherine is steadfast on making this just a business deal, but can't deny her attraction to Tijjani. Ya'll this book is steamy. HOT, do you hear me? These are grown characters and they know what they are doing in the bedroom. Ms. Sapphire gives readers all the heat with this one. Tijjani is book bae for real. He has a goal, and his actions all point to that goal of making Catherine his. There is one problem. Tijjani is being represented by Catherine's agency. How long will Tijjani be able to keep his feelings under wraps? Tijjani is the complete package. His actions and words match up. Catherine will have no problem understanding what the wants from her. Can she figure out how to work a relationship into her business life? This book checks all the boxes. I am loving this series, I cannot wait to see what Marie-Louise Charles has in store for readers. She is the outspoken sister. I know it is going to be over the top craziness.

I really enjoyed this read from Sapphire! She's a new to me author and I'm so glad I took the plunge in grabbing this book.

I loved Catherine as an FMC - seeing her in such a strong, career-driven position was refreshing, especially for a sports romance book. I love that she never lost her drive, and that she strived for professionalism above all else. The pressure put upon her by her family was incredibly relatable, and I loved that she doesn't change who she is through the course of the book.

Tijjani, man, I don't know where to start with him. He's strong, passionate and driven with his career as a hockey player. He's down on his luck from the events in the prologue, but he doesn't let that hold him back. He definitely steals your heart, and you just want him to succeed in his journey to win Catherine over - which he does so without letting her sacrifice her career, or trying to change her.

I was here for the fake dating that Sapphire brought us. It gave us banter, a beautiful slow burn and the most perfect start to the relationship when Catherine finally does give into Tijjani's advances. The chemistry between these two really hits hard, and that mouth on Tijjani? Holy heck, sign me up.

Honestly what was standout for me about this was the characters heritage; I loved that Sapphire infused so much of what it meant to be of Caribbean or Nigerian descent into her work, and it really shone through.

She’s a Grinder

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
🌶️.5/5

I received this as an eARC from the author for my review.

🏒If you’re looking for a slow burn hockey romance then this one’s for you!

🏒This book is great if you’re looking for that slow burn and pining type book that starts with fake dating your best friend’s older brother.

🏒Catherine and Tijjani are from different sides of the same field. Catherine is the sports age bf or a very well known company and Tijjani is the grinder for the Puck Kings.

🏒After an unfortunate financial event Tijjani finds himself looking for a new agent and in the process finding Catherine who is in need of a date for her sister’s wedding to prevent the backlash from her family about not being in a relationship.

🏒In the process the two find themselves in a mutual contract with one another that leads to a steamy scene while at the wedding.

"She's a Grinder" by Tember Sapphire delivers a refreshing take on romance within the competitive world of sports agency. Catherine, a fiercely independent female sports agent, challenges gender norms in her field while navigating her own reservations about relationships. When she enlists her best friend's brother, Tijjani, a charming hockey pro, as her fake date for a family wedding, sparks fly amidst their shared history and undeniable chemistry.

Catherine’s reluctance to pursue relationships stems from her commitment to maintaining her professional reputation, a stance Tijjani admirably respects. As they navigate the delicate balance between their fake relationship and genuine feelings, their mutual respect for each other's ambitions adds depth to their burgeoning romance.

It's a testament to Sapphires skill in crafting characters who not only captivate with their chemistry but also inspire with their dedication to their careers and each other.
There is a rich portrayal of culture, the importance of found family, and The characters unwavering determination to pursue love beyond their initial agreement. It's a captivating read that celebrates empowerment, love, and the pursuit of happiness.

-ARC Review- 4.5 stars

She's a Grinder is a hockey romance with the FMC being a sports agent and the MMC a hockey player.
Tijjani is Catherine's best friend's brother and has harboured a crush for her for years. When circumstances arise that require him to turn to her for help, he jumps at the opportunity to finally make a move by offering to play the doting boyfriend at her sister's wedding, hoping that it'll lead to more...
---------
What can I say, I ate that book up! I enjoyed the characters a lot. I like Catherine, she's a badass with a strong work ethic, she knows what she wants from life and she doesn't want to compromise her career for the sake of a relationship. Tijjani...ughh, I just love him! He was determined to make it work with Catherine, he was attentive, considerate, charming, flirty, naughty... He never wavered, even in the face of adversity and he truly earned that #RealLifeBookBoyfriend title!
The story flowed beautifully as well. I liked that it didn't rely on miscommunication or third-act breakup, which is very common with a fake dating trope. I'll be reading more from this author for sure.

Thank you to Happily Booked PR and the author Tember Sapphire for the opportunity to read and review this book!

I really enjoyed She's a Grinder. While both main characters are involved with hockey, and there is some focus on Tijjani being a player and Catherine being an agent, there is much more focus on the whole best friend's brother trope and fake dating that soon turns into more.

Tijjani is Nigerian, and Catherine is Caribbean, and I loved how the author represented them and their cultures, from the mom's fussiness to the different foods and the pet names. They also highlighted how POC are a minority in hockey as well as how hard Catherine has had to work for her position as an agent as she is both a POC and a woman working in a male-dominated role, and we do get to witness some misogyny towards her, which she soon shoots down.

Tijjani has had a crush on his sister's best friend for a while but never had the opportunity to act on it. When he finds out she needs a date to her sister's wedding, he steps in, volunteers, and goes out of his way to show what a good boyfriend he can be. He was relentless in his wooing of Catherine, and I thought the extra effort he put in was really sweet. He had a bit of a naughty side, which got them in some trouble, but he was perfect boyfriend material, and they had a great relationship once Catherine let her walls fall.

This is the first book by Tember that I have read and I loved it!

It has pretty much all my favourite things: fake dating, no third act breakup, one bed and he falls first!

The player x agent aspect of this book was well written and I really enjoyed reading it even though it's something I don't usually enjoy all too much.

Fake dating is one of my favourite tropes, make it for an event and I'm sold even further! It was amazing and so sweet! I really loved everything about this couple, from the fake dating to the real dating!

The characters were well written and developed and both effectively portrayed the pressure placed on the oldest sibling!

Catherine, the fmc is strong, independent, smart and career driven however she is also the oldest sibling and is under pressure to follow her younger sisters footsteps to settle down and get married.

Tijjani, the mmc is passionate, sweet, supportive, steals your heart and is also the oldest sibling. He is also put under pressure by his family but for different reason as he chose to skip college and go straight to the NHL.

I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who likes hockey romances, fake dating, supportive mmcs and just overall a really amazing book!

This is the second book in the She can play series. We follow Catherine is a carer driven hockey agent executive, she’s a strong independent women but she doesn’t do relationships. Tijjani is her best friends brother and grinder for the Puck Kings. He’s one of the guys who takes notes on what his lady likes and dislikes, plus he’s always had a secret crush on her.

Catherine is in a bind when she needs a date to her sister’s wedding, after a few terrible dates she’s worried she’s not going to find anyone. T comes up with a plan after she helps him secure a new agent after his last one screwed him over. Will he get the girl?

I enjoy this overall, the characters had chemistry from the start you could feel it. I loved the culture behind the character it added depth to the story. If you not into a heavy sport related story this is a good one to go for. The spice was 🥵 T wasn’t messing around I liked how he took control. Towards the end of the story it dragged out a tab and the spicy scenes began to fade.

Overall a good read, I’d happily continue the series and find out more about the other Charles sisters.

Thank you to @happilybookedpr for the eARC 💕

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

As a Caribbean woman, so many parts of the story stood out for me, especially the food and the fact that Caribbean women do not play.

I enjoyed so many aspects of this book. Seeing Tijjani long after Catherine and wanting to be in a relationship with her but refusing most times to hide his feelings, gives a real-life insight on the indecision that occurs in your head sometimes. I love how Catherine was relentless in how she focused on what she wanted in life and wasn't willing to compromise on any of it. The trope is one of my favorites and I appreciated the approach.
I love his constant defence of her and the fact that he was willing to either take whoever spoke ill of her out or take the fall for everything and spare her at all costs.
I wished the wedding scene was longer but the spicy scene that resulted out of it was well worth it. #reallifebookboyfriend
I felt it would have come full circle with him asking for her hand.

The book was well written and I enjoyed it and look forward to anything else by this writer. Go Tember!!

Thank you to Happily Booked PR and the author for allowing me to be part of the arc team in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this! I am in desperate need of some new hockey romance authors to fall into at all times, as it has truly became one of my favourite genres of romance novels, and this one did not disappoint me.

First of all, who doesn't love a player x agent story? And paired with boy falls first as well as best friends brother? Sign me right up!

Catherine and Tijjani's sexual chemistry was through the roof from the first scene of them together, and I do think an already established relationship really benefited this book for me. I loved their banter, the fact that Catherine was a tough nut to crack when it came to intimacy but Tijjani did not give up, and of course .. the dirty talk. Just .. wooooooah 🤤

This book hit home for me with the discussions between the two characters about being the oldest sibling and first born, and having that sort of pressure from family to be a role model, sometimes stepping up as an almost parent as well.

Overall, I really enjoyed this! Thank you again to the publishers and author.

She’s a Grinder is a Cozy RomCom with all the feels but what I like best is that it is a Hockey RomCom with a POC FMC and MMC. The characters were relatable and felt their annoyance with their family on their vision for their futures. We’ve all been there. Mother pressing you to get married so that you can start a family and have security or in Tijjani’s case; his parents wanted him to get an education and finish his degree in a field of study he wasn’t passionate about. They were not supportive of his dreams.

When the unthinkable happens Tijjani has no one else to turn to due to his lack of trust but he’s willing to give his siters BFF a shot at being his agent. Which seems like a good idea until the reality of Tijjani’s feelings came into play. Catherine and Tijjani embark on a fake dating adventure to help get Catherine’s family off her back as well as working to help salvage Tijani’s career.

This story was full of witty banter, homegirl/BFF shenanigans, fake dating, Caribbean/Nigerian flava sprinkled with a little spice. Catherine and Tijjani set out on two totally different missions and found love when they least expected it.

Let’s start with what I liked about this book. It has a little bit for everyone in it. The MFC Catherine was a strong willed, independent woman who didn’t define her accomplishments in life by the man who was at her side. Tijjani (MMC) was not the typical hockey guy you usually read meaning not OTT arrogant alpha hole.

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ out of 5

I personally was not a huge fan of this book. It took me forever to finish it. It would have been a DNF for me if I wasn’t an ARC reader for it. The way the book started out put me off. As I chugged along reading more I did enjoy the book some more. There was back and forth that made the timeline harder to follow. (Maybe my ADD brian missed the cues but I was back reading a lot). Some scenes felt cut short like the wedding left me wishing for more.

Spicy: 🔥🔥🔥

Cath is a wonderful and independent woman. I love how organized she is with all the things she does. I love the cultural diversity in this book. If you really like books about other cultures and also hockey! This one's for you. Tijjani Kyautu is dedicated, understanding, loving, detail-oriented and above all persistent with everything he sets his mind to. Her character is super cute, and the truth is that I really loved all the things she did to impress Cath at every moment without judging her for the things she does. Accept and support her in every decision.

There are certain things that I honestly feel Cath didn't know how to handle well, but T and her best friend were always with her. The truth is that her best friend is the best character in the whole book. Her personality so outgoing, approving of her friend at the worst and best of times. For me it was tender.

She’s a Grinder is the second book in the She Can Play sports romance series. Catherine is in the need of a boyfriend for her sister’s upcoming wedding and Tijjani, a hockey player who is down on his luck, needs help turning his career around. Catherine is in the unique position to be able and help him set things straight, so Tijjani offers Catherine a proposal. He will be her fake date for the wedding if she will help him get his career back on track.

I love sports romance and best friends brother is one of my favorite tropes, so this boo had everything I look for in a good romance. Throw in some fake dating and I knew I had to read this book. It was an enjoyable read with a good combination of developing romance and spice. I liked the characters, especially Tijjani’s sweet side. Tijjani is exactly what Catherine needs and I loved seeing this pair together. If you are a sports romance fan looking for a good read this book is worth a try. Overall I enjoyed it and am glad I read it.
