In less competent hands, Carol Davis Luce's psychic thriller could be a trite mess of a read. Fortunately, Luce knows how to draw characters. Her main character, Robbi is an extremely likeable protagonist with plenty at stake. Even the psychic element is kept interesting and isn't overplayed as is usually the case in a book of this type.
The villian is equally well drawn and is quite disturbing.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good, entertaining, late-night read as the pacing is perfect to steal a night's sleep, and there is enough suspense to keep picking it up at every free moment. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Ordinarily, if a book has any graphic sex or language, I don't feel like I can give it five stars but I loved this book, couldn't put it down. Looked for something that would keep my attention on a camping trip when others in our party went off to do more strenuous activities that I couldn't tackle. Chose this one, for some reason, and it turned out to be the perfect choice! Even when the others came back, I couldn't quit reading it. Finished it and wished I had taken two books (that's when the Kindle takes over).

Carol Davis Oats appears to be a successful author, but I wonder why. This is the first book of hers I have read and it will also be the last. This story is about a clairvoyant who sees killings as they are happening. There are inept police who set a trap for said killer only to have “abduct an officer right under the noses of four armed cops and a trained dog?” I scanned much of the book so I could get on with another

I thought it would never end! I listened to the audiobook while working on a project and it went on and on and on...
Seriously, the makings of a good mystery were here but I cannot believe an editor ever got near it. Naval gazing, repetition, superfluous POVs from secondary characters, long detailed landscape descriptions, more repetition, more landscapes, more naval gazing. It was mind numbing! There were some serious plot problems as well -- the dumbest, most incompetent police detectives EVER chief among them. The copyright date 2010 on the Audible site is misleading as hell. I couldn't figure out why no one used a cell phone when their circumstances became dire. Further investigation reveals an original copyright date of 1992. No wonder police procedures and technology come across as outdated.
I liked the hero and heroine and I totally enjoyed the monstrous, extra scary villain.
Narrator Jennette Selig did a good job -- a yeoman job. Her style is dry and no nonsense and it works well for suspense. I am experimenting with Audible's whispersync price cuts. I got the ebook and the audiobook for about $3.

Probably every cliché contained in the serial killer sub genre is in this book. Large ugly, male, abnormally strong, psychotic killer preying on young, nice, venerable, attractive, helpless females, locking them up in his lair only letting them out for his etc., etc.,
Oh I almost forgot the boyfriend in shining armour and the unexpected warm arousal thing, that keeps happening. Can he save her from the clutches of this dark, disturbing, animal like predator?
Well, I think you know the answer, but if you need verification, go ahead and read it. But, don't say you weren't warned.

Well-woven story and characters take the reader through mountain and city suspense. I was surprised by the unexpected emotional ending. The beauty of the Lake Tahoe area becomes a shocking nightmare that will compel you to turn on that kindle first thing in the morning with coffee... and pick up where you left off in the wee hours of the a.m. I thought Night Passage was my favorite Luce suspense story, now Night Prey is also my favorite. How many favorites can we have?

Another great story in the Lucas Davenport series. It has been awhile since I have read a John Sandford book. Reading this book reminded me of why I enjoy his story-telling so much. Once I catch up on books I already have to read I will certainly be seeking out more John Sandford books to read. I love the suspense, the evolving characters, everything about how this author writes.

Enjoyed the story okay. Thought the narration could've been a little better (I used Audible for the book)--narrator didn't sound too excited, even in the plot twists which should have evinced some type of voice change from the rest of the book...but that's just my thought.

Okay this was an okay book, I don't think I'll read another one of her books, I think it was stretched out a parts that the book could've done without but overall it was a good story.

very slow start but picked up the pace about 60%. Then was good & filled with suspense. But I almost gave up at about 40% into it.

As a kid, Roberta Paxton had premonitions and was able to see horrible events first hand when her brother drowned. In the beautiful Nevada high country of Sparks, she works at a home for abused women and starts having those disturbing visions again. She is seeing a killer in real time that seems to be getting much closer to home than she can understand at first. A psychiatrist comes to her aid and there is romance mixed with high country adventure and a surprise twist as the killer gets closer to her and her family.
This story is a real thriller with romance, adventure, and psychic phenomena all mixed together in a blend that works very well. I really enjoyed this story, one that I highly recommend as a great example of Carol's work. She is an author that you should not miss!
