3.5 stars but I will say: the ending was WAY better than Mr. Queen.
Overall, the ending of this story floundered a bit. It goes back and forth with Yuan Xiao and Heqing Yan reuniting - getting separated again - reuniting - and getting separated again. We do the plot where Yuan is captured, accused of being a traitor and at risk of execution like 3 times? I'm not entirely sure what the point of that was.
The scene where Yuan sacrificed himself was really moving and I'm honestly a bit surprised he didn't immediately go back to his present time after that and have the whole montage of seeing where the counterparts ending up then. Instead, it's a reincarnation plot that didn't take as long as the "Yan is blind" plot before they're together again. I loved Xui Hong's sister, btw. Her concern was adorable.
Overall, I still really loved this series. It's the best manhua I've read so far. I laughed, I cried, I'm already planning a reread. I can't wait to own this series in print.
