William saved the Imperial Princess and survived the Shard. Great. He’s done with all that nonsense.
Getting pulled into the Shard left a bad taste in William’s mouth. Thankfully, the Jade Healing Sect was there to help him in this time of need.
The safe walls would allow him to improve himself without needing to go through a meat grinder. Plus, it allowed him to meet new people who weren't named Ren Bo! A new mentor, new friends, a cheerful Imperial Prince, and traitors … wait, maybe not the last one.
William was about to discover that staying inside the sect was more challenging than it sounded.
William fresh from his adventures in book one is now back with his sect. He has grown in power and so moves from the outer sect to the inner sect. Along with this, he must learn new powers and keep the secret of what happened in the pocket dimension. He interacts with royalty, attends an auction, and on impulse spends his mentor’s money without permission. Ultimately, he advances in power, learns more about the world, the politics, and his sect. He then goes on a mission to yet another pocket dimension where things naturally go wrong. With a whole lot of luck, he makes it out alive and is yet again even more powerful. His leaders at the sect know he is hiding something, but don’t know quite what.
This is a fun continuation of the series, but it is definitely not a standalone novel. There is an overarching plot where he must attain a certain level of power within 10 years with subplots of him taking out pocket dimensions. However, there is not a clear plot within each individual book, but there is a climax and resolution with each pocket dimension. The world is fascinating. The storytelling is excellent. And the whole thing is just captivating. I highly recommend please.
The Narrator did the story itself no favours and I would recommend actually reading a text version if possible for anyone interested in the story. So first of the narrator is barely so-so, secondly the basic narration speed is really slow and even sped up to 1.10x it wasn't much of an improvement, while above that the audio quality started suffering beyond the acceptable.
As to the book itself...
I found the protagonist to be.. awkward same for the story/plot. On the whole the execution is poor. Rating it 2/5.. well I feel like that is being Nice.
Builds on the first book as a protagonist goes to school, well tries to others have ideas on what he should be doing you get auction house tropes and lord paddy turtle turns up again what's a male teen cultivator to do eh.
The story is what you expect, it is well written and has the hooks for likeable characters that are filled out over the series. Looking forward to the next book.
Not as slow as the first book but still pretty slow two book and while mc has some decent power he's still a minor hoping next book let's him grow up more being an early teen is not entertaining to me
Very good story and a well-built world and character arc.
I thought that the two volumes in this storyline were very good. The only drawback is that there is very little fighting for a cultivation book. Still, I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I give reviews when I get a great book that needs to be shared. I would highly recommend it if you love non-stop action. Do yourself a favor and get started today!
