Rogue Ascension #5

Rogue Ascension, Book 5

Rate this book
[Last time in Multiverse Z!] A Shadow Prince saved a War Princess from death and achieved his vengeance on an old nemesis!

Joey Eclipse is the #1 Beginner with a list of achievements that's hard to believe. All while in an apocalypse where the multiverse integrates whole universes and initiates countless humans to its game-like realms of limitless magic.

Here's the problem. He's way too overpowered to stay in a Lesser Realm. And he keeps refusing his First Ascension to accomplish his remaining goals:

1. Learning a magical crafting ability to turn his growing hoard of loot into deadlier weapons.

2. Training with his Renegades and improving his powers over shadow, necromancy, dragon magic, and the cultivation of fate.

3. The War Princess Warrior, Maylolee Suzuki.

Too bad Joey's refusal to ascend dooms the Lesser Realm to suffer attacks from buffed up monsters. Like the Epic Dread Whale, a highly evil boss that's two realms of power greater than Joey Eclipse.

If Joey makes any crucial mistakes, his enemies will make him pay dearly. If he succeeds, his ascension won't be great alone. It might go rogue with someone special at his side.

Follow Joey in another quick and meaty action-adventure book that's perfect for fans of He Who Fights With Monsters, Cradle, and The Primal Hunter. Read now to enjoy an Apocalypse Isekai with a strong Progression LitRPG, Cultivation System, and a dynamic romance between two overpowered battle freaks going on grand adventures across the multiverse.

[Welcome back to Multiverse Z!]

[Now let’s continue with the Season One Finale: First Ascension.]

This is fifth in an isekai LitRPG series that needs to be read in order.

So yeah, more Joey shenanigans. I didn't actually see the cover blurb that says this is the conclusion of "season one" of the series until just now, but I would have found that reassuring. Because we have just about finished with the amount of pfaffing about they can do before finally taking on the long-foreshadowed fight against the Dread Whale.

That said, there's a lot that has to happen along the way with Joey taking on some preparatory big-bads with his team of super-greats. I'm not complaining about that. There's a lot of fun creativity and seeing him grow and sacrifice for his city and people was a very fascinating development. It turns out that he's not as selfish as he paints himself to be, committing real resources to the protection of the commoners and steadies in his care.

And let me tell you, I cheered when he dropped the hammer on the "dragon reluctance" near the midpoint of the book. Man I was tired of that interaction.

Some of the relationships are surface at best, chief among them with Maylolee. Joey is completely impulsive with regards to her and that played out both good and bad for my engagement. I mean, I liked that he wasn't afraid to jump into their relationship with both feet. But the whole dropped out of nowhere though I did appreciate that . Anyway, I'm torn on the whole relationship and that goes double for the Chaste note below.

Anyway, I was still deeply entertained with the enthusiastic power fantasy and I still like Joey quite a bit despite all his brash presentation. He's kind where it counts and supportive of those around him, even those without his drive or who can do nothing overt for him. And that final fight where he cares for his greats even as he asks for their very best was everything I hoped it'd be.

So I'm giving this five stars, though a wobbly one for the weirdness with Maylolee. I am glad that they finally ascend at the end of this and that the next is legitimately a whole new ballgame.

A note about craft: I honestly didn't notice malapropisms in this one but I think I may just be desensitized. Also, I've read them back to back so fast that I don't remember what might have been in this vs. the others. Maybe the author found himself an editor. That'd be great if so.

A note about Chaste: It's one thing to be chaste because your core couple are separated for much of the story. And it's another if it's chaste because you draw back from closed doors. But this one has Joey and Maylolee both together and with downtime and I can't tell if they did the deed or not. We do learn that Joey came into this a virgin and completely inexperienced (May is is first "real kiss") so I find it hard that they'd jump each other without any thoughts of it when we pick up. All we learn is that May gives a great massage. So this is curiously, weirdly chaste and I have questions.

3.5 stars. He was too overpowered in this book. Everything just felt too easy and boring. Next book should improve as he is going up a new level.

Best of the series

I love how Joey's always thinking outside of the box and coming up with stuff. That's never been done before and this book exemplifies that one hundred percent.

ehh

Not going to lie…I skipped whole chapters of this book because I am getting a little bored with the story. I was able to piece together the storyline I bypassed based on snippets here and there. When the MC is so overpowered and so smart that they always manage to win, it just becomes more of the same old same old.

I will give it a rest for now and pick up book 6 down the road. I hope we see much more of Steven.

another good installment in the series.

An excellent progression in this series, more character growth, more power, and different perspectives from the character and other members of his cadre. The story keeps growing and evolving and I am interested to see where it’s going in the next book. The action is fresh fast and enjoyable. Will read the next one as well.

This series has been fast paced and fantastic while the character can be juvenile he is still a kid (even if he is 18) looking forward to the next book in series this authors pace is as incredible as his character's!

Well done

It's very hard to work with over powered MC, this author does an excellent job telling a compelling story. This book completes the first realm story arc. The resolution of the love interest is very satisfactory.

Nope can not spoil the read...

Probably the best one yet. Honestly, I feel this author should rank right up there with Rick Riordan. The author keeps showing similar comedic dialog, sparky come backs, and a slight disregard for any type of authority.

Keep up the great work!

Perfect Bow on a Well-paced Arc

This book is definitely the best of the series and a great resolution of the tidal moon realm arc. Pacing was perfect and set up an exciting profession to experience in the next book of the series! Good stuff

A romp through multiverse Z!

Alley bread Joey does it again against the biggest challenges! So of course the best rewards! Great action and characters, a good flow and plenty of surprises in this book. It gets better as it progresses. Just starting the next book in the series.

Finished but I don't think I will continue the series after this one. The author did an excellent job! The power creep just eventually left the author with nowhere else to take the main character. He did a good job wrapping up the first world. I don't know how much further he can progress this one.

Fair Bloody Good

Mate, honestly this series started off a little rough for me at the beginning, and I stopped and started the first book a couple times before finally committing.

And I tell ya what, this story is on a roll. Bloody good stuff and onto the next one.

The Order!

This series is the BEST! Apocalypse Comedy is super dope groundwork for this. The callbacks to its characters is awesome and I truly wonder what drove the gang insane!?!?

Awesome Stuff

This story of a young man who was at the bottom of society thriving when the System takes over was a fantastic zero to gray hero read.

stopped here.

Stopping series here. Has been fine so far but it is no longer holding my attention. Bit too much focus on romance for me.
