The young girl trembles with fear as she stares at the gun pointed in her direction. She knows there’s no point in screaming. No one will hear her on the mountain. As thunder breaks overhead, she silently prays that someone will at least find her body so she can be returned to her parents.
Detective Madison Harper’s heart aches when she attends a local support group for families of missing people in Lost Creek, Colorado. She wishes she could help them all, but one cold case in particular captures her attention. Five years ago, close friends Becky, Tasha and Stuart hiked the infamous Grave Mountain. But only Stuart returned. He claims they were separated by a storm, but the town has never believed him. Convinced Stuart is hiding something, Madison vows to find out what really happened.
Just as Madison reopens the case, her blood runs cold when remains are discovered on the trail where the women were last seen. And when more bodies are discovered, Madison suspects she’s dealing with a serial killer who has used Grave Mountain as a dumping ground for years. How many more bodies are they about to unearth?
Then, the case takes an agonizing turn when someone close to Madison is found brutally murdered. As she gets closer to cracking the case, a tip-off leads her back to the mountain, and she knows that if she’s going to catch the killer, she has to hike it alone. But as another storm closes in, Madison realizes she may have just walked into a trap that means she’ll never make it off the mountain alive…

So many careless acts of murder for no reason. My heart couldn’t cope with one of the deaths, it wasn’t fair.
I blitzed this straight from Her Lonely Bones as I just knew the story would continue from Doug and Nancy Draper but I didn’t expect this. I really can’t express how sad this book has made me. But my god it's a damn good book. It’s intense and a rollercoaster of a ride and you are constantly feeling that ticking clock on your shoulders as more and more bodies start to show up. It was depraved and dark but so addictive.
I have no idea where Wendy gets these ideas but they are good. She has no qualms upsetting the reader that’s for sure! But she does it with love and care….
Madison and Nate have big plans and I am so excited for their future. They give me the warm fuzzies and I hope it means Nate will stay forever and ever and ever and ever and ever. Maybe Dean Mathison could move in too.
Itching as ever for the next one, and happy to give my child for it…ok maybe not, but I have 5 cats.
Another brilliant book from Wendy Dranfield. This is a great series and I’d recommend reading it from the beginning to get the full back story of Madison and Nate. Madison is attending a local missing persons group and her heart breaks when she hears how these people are struggling by not knowing what happened to their loved ones. The truth is that without new information, Madison and her team can’t look into the cases and she feels awful. However she then gets a call to say some remains have been found up Grave Mountain, so immediately heads there to investigate. One of the women at the support group told her that her daughter was last seen there so she’s keen to find out if it’s her. This is only the beginning though as more remains are found and soon Madison and the team have their hands full. This coupled with more killings makes this a fast paced action packed book that I really enjoyed. This is a great crime thriller that I’d highly recommend. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I have been a fan of this series from the very first book and each time I read a new one, I love Madison and Nate even more.
Every time I am reminded of what they both went through, I shiver. At the same time I admire them for being they way they are. This ordeal they lived must have left a big and deep mark on them and still they manage to build a future and think positively. Of course regularly they are overcome with blasts from the past, but it does not stop them from helping other people.
A killer is terrorising Lost Creek for the umpteenth time and I can assure you they are one sick so and so. It seems like the sickest ones are at the same time also the most clever ones, which makes it even creepier and more challenging to catch them.
But fear not, Madison, Nate and of course Brody were not born yesterday and will not shy away from dangerous situations if that's what is needed to take them down a peg or two.
Once more the author manages to mix a big bunch of suspense and cruelness with softer and beautiful emotions giving the reader the chance to take a breather. :)
I loved this book just like I have loved every book I have already read by this author. 5 stars
Grave Mountain is the seventh Detective Madison Harper book in the series. I have followed this series from the beginning, so I have all of the prior backstory for Madison Harper and Nate Monroe, but enough important facts about their background are given that it works as a standalone.
Grave Mountain is a suspenseful, fast-paced procedural thriller. What begins as a cold missing person case becomes a hunt for a serial killer. The investigation is engaging and the side plots with Madison and her former friend/now boyfriend Nate, as well as other members on Madison's team are also interesting. I like Madison and Nate individually and as a couple and appreciate the fast pace and complicated plot of the story. It kept my interest throughout the book, but was sometimes too intense for me. When the truth starts coming out about the killings, the person behind them is revealed to be so evil, it was hard to read some of the passages. There is a dramatic showdown involving both Madison and Nate but wrapping up in a hopeful ending.
I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and Bookouture, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
Madison meets a group of parents, whose children have gone missing for more than a decade. Stuart Carpenter was the main suspect of the disappearances of two girls, Becky and Tasha although he was never arrested. When the skeletal remains were found in the Grave Mountrain, Stuart Carpenter commits suicide and Madison Harper finds Tasha’s driver’s license among his belongings. However, when more skeletal remains are found in the mountain, Madison believed that a serial killer might be on loose and Stuart Carpenter might not be responsible for Tasha’s murder.
This was a fast paced thriller. I always loved reading Madison Harper series and always make sure to read them. The author’s writing style was great and there were twists and turns along the way. There were many suspects that as a reader, you have no idea which one of the suspects could be responsible for the murders. The ending was great and I actually enjoyed reading this book. If you are looking for a detective series, I suggest choosing Madison Harper series. Worth five stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this brilliant kick ass book

Grave Mountain (Detective Madison Harper Book 7) by Wendy Dranfield is such a great book and a great addition to the Detective Madison Harper series. This book does not disappoint. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this story.
I was so excited to get a copy of this book. I really enjoy these characters and settling in for a thrilling ride. The story is gripping, and this series is quite addictive.
I cannot wait for the next book to see what happens with Madison and Nate. Especially Nate and how he will cope with the outcome of this book. I also want to find out how the cat and the two dogs will get along! I really love Bandit (cat) and Brody (dog); they are quite the characters.

The story had so many twists and red herrings that I could not figure out who the culprit was or what was going to happen next. The author does an excellent job of unfolding each scene with credible characters and an atmospheric locale. Lots of false clues, suspense, and tension, with a satisfying resolution that makes me want more in this series.
I would recommend this book and this series. I would highly recommend starting this series from book 1 so you get to know the characters and their backstories. I really enjoy this author's writing style, and Grave Mountain is a great mystery thriller.
This book had a distinctly different feel as we were set on the trail of cold cases. We learn about a number of missing people, mostly late teenagers, who have vanished from Cold Creek. The residents are quick to point their collective finger at another local who is adamant that he is not involved in any disappearances. This story builds steadily, and while the feelings of jeopardy are kept at bay for a little while, it’s not long before the pressure starts to mount. As remains are uncovered on Grave Mountain, the story moves with increasing speed, and it’s not immediately clear who is in danger. Madison is still working with her partner, detective Marcus Adams, but she is concerned that he may be distracted by issues that lie closer to home. Of course, Madison has the full and constant support of Nate Monroe, whose relationship status was upgraded in book 6. A development that I am very happy with. All references to their shifted status are handled in a matter-of-fact manner and there’s no danger of this becoming romantic fiction. In fact, it’s their relationship that adds to the final jeopardy. Of course, I can’t mention Nate without a nod to Brody, the cadaver dog who we met back in book one. I did plenty of guessing as to what may happen, but Dranfield kept a tight rein on the story, and I found myself being pulled into the intrigue with each passing chapter. The story is whip-smart and full of twists and false turns. The pace is perfect, and I genuinely felt sympathy for the guilty. Another fantastic instalment and I’m already excited for book 8.
Wow, this book was full-on right from the very beginning. This story moves through all the emotions – fear, horror, grief, and hope – and it’s all down to Madison and her team to try and make sense of it all. Having attended a meeting of locals who are trying to find out what has happened to their missing loved ones, Madison finds herself trying to solve the case of missing girls Becky Draper and her friend Tasha. Just as the investigation starts a gruesome find is discovered on Grave Mountain and the action begins to get exciting. This book is tense, gripping and totally unputdownable and I believe that it is the best episode so far in a terrific series. There are plenty of heart-stopping moments and a great deal of sadness and suspense. The plot is full of twists and turns and the ending totally takes me by surprise. Once more Nate is there to support Madison, along with his trusty sidekick, Brody and I’m pleased to say that Bandit gets a few mentions and another member is added to the family.
Madison is back! I love that this author keeps writing so many books in this series and when you finish the book you still want more books! Madison and Nate are two of my favorite characters in a series ! Love Madison's quick wit! Madison gets called to the scene of a body found on Grave Mountain and then another! Is this the work of a serial killer?? Read this series!!! One of my absolute favorites !
I read the first book of the series on a whim because it was free on kindle… IMMEDIATELY hooked. Wendy’s writing is outstanding. All 7 of these books are hard to put down! The details, the story, character development, are truly perfection. I cannot recommend these books enough! Cannot wait for more books in this series!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of Grave Mountain by Wendy Dranfield. As I got closer to the end I knew I couldn’t sleep until I’d finished this book. With a twisted plot and great characters, this book has it all.
I was hooked from that intriguing prologue until the very last page. With a fast paced plot and twists you don't see coming this series just gets better and better. Loved it.

This is book seven in the Detective Madison Harper series. I love reading this series, each book has been such a good read that I always look forward to the next one. They just get better and better and the author never fails with the twists and surprises. I like knowing a few of the side characters as well as the main going into these books too, even the pets 😄 This one really was the best one I think I've read so far, although I'm pretty sure I've said that about each one. If you like a good Detective book series/thrillers I would highly recommend this series. You can read as a stand alone but I would recommend reading from the first one because they are all such good reads.
This book started out brilliantly and just kept getting better. My mind is BLOWN!
First of all, can we talk about Brody? That precious dog is practically human and he alone gets TEN STARS from me. This is book seven in the series and I started at book six, so I can comfortably say that these books do work well as standalone reads, but they are so brilliant that I will definitely be getting hold of the first five before too long. Even after just two books in the series, I am so totally invested in Madison and Nate’s lives, and even those of Adams, Steve, Lena, Alex and Mendes to some extent, but Brody is something else. If anything ever happens to that boy, I am going to be beyond devastated.
And so onto the plot. My jaw is still on the floor at the moment. It was intense and more than clever. Twists and red herrings in abundance and so well thought out, there is no way a reader could call this one. Even once I knew the majority of it, towards the end, there was still more. It was literally breathtakingly tense and I can’t recommend this book highly enough!
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Wendy Dranfield and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
This series gets better and better with every instalment and this the 7th is no different. An excellent read. A very unusual type of murder is being committed, almost murder by proxy. The bodies mount up along with the tension and there are so many at one time you find yourself struggling to keep up! Lots of possible culprits are presented and you’re led down many a false path until the real villain is uncovered. A villain I may add I never saw coming! The subplot and the characters continue to develop nicely too. This book would work perfectly well as a standalone but I urge you to read the series in order to get the most out of the character’s very unusual back stories, and I envy you the binge read
This is the latest book in the Madison Harper series for Wendy Dranfield and I have to say I thought it was excellent in all aspects. It held my attention from the first page and continued to the last page. Detective Adams is starting to evolve into a partner that Madison is happy to have to only have his life in turmoil. I thought this was a well written thriller with twists and turns to keep you guessing. I loved the ending that me happy cry!
I loved this book and this series. There are bodies found on Grave Mountain and Detective Madison Harper, her boyfriend Nate and his dog Brody are on the hunt. If you haven’t read this series you should start now. Great book and series.
Another brilliant book in this series with Madison and Nate I just love their partnership and, of course, Brody.
It was a fast paced thriller read with plenty of twists and turns and I was involved in the storyline from the beginning until the end with a great ending and what an explosive ending it was
What more can I say??? How about fabulous, thrilling, sad, exciting, and a read from front to back book in one sitting. No!! Don't put it down and go to bed, finish it.
What an extraordinary book. So well written & so heart wrenching at once. I haven’t read all the books in this #DetectiveMadisonHarperseries, but it works alone as this case is its own gripping & addictive mystery thriller.
When a book leaves you wanting more it's very much deserving of its five stars!
I have yet to leave this series anything but five stars it's just superb.
A fast paced read I just couldn't put it down, intense, engaging, gripping it absorbed me I'm not ashamed to admit I'm hooked on this series and the talented way it is executed by its amazing author.
Wow, twists you never see coming! What a totally riveting book! I thoroughly enjoy this series and this one was absolutely brilliant! I highly recommend!
Absolutely freaking phenomenal! Set aside some reading time if you are picking this one up because you will not want to put it down. This is a fast paced suspense filled wild ride.
