Costa Crime Family #4

Dearly Betrayed

Rate this book
He dragged me from the altar straight to his bed.

I have to marry the man that killed my father.

He’s Jayson Costa, mafia prince, obscenely wealthy, emotionally distant, and sinfully attractive.

I don’t care how good that control freak looks in a suit: Jayson’s everything I despise.

But this marriage is the only way we can put a stop to the war that’s destroying our families.

Only my feelings get complicated when he surprises me with an incredible, heat-filled kiss at the altar.

Mr. Emotionally-Stunted has a passionate side, and I’m the girl that makes him tear down his walls.

We have chemistry like I’ve never felt before and an attraction that makes me hate my own physical reactions. His fingertips send tingles down my spine, his lips shred me into pieces, and I can’t stop this reckless, constant need to be close to him.

Now I’m stuck and I don’t know what I want more: revenge or this gorgeous man in my bed.

Dnf @ 23%

Welp, that was freaking disappointing. I really thought Fallon (26/27) would hold out for awhile because she doesn't want this marriage at all. She's supposed to be angry with Jayson (35), and yet the lust and body-betraying crap eventually won out.

I hoped for this story to have a strong-willed fmc—someone who's not being led by her hormones and mmc's attractiveness. But nope, she had to throw all the caution she put in, not even a day after they got married. 😐

I'm not in the mood right now to endure characters who say one thing but do the opposite. There's nothing fun in that. 🤷‍♀️

So, dnf it is for the mean time; I might pick it up again if the mood strikes.

DNF @ 6% - heroine’s POV sounds like a dude - too crass and vulgar for who the author says she is. Not for me.

Satu-satunya yg tembak-tembakan, saling bunuh dan rival family gt... tapi past tense, karena sudah kejadian.. ini tinggal mendamaikan 2 keluarga aja, dan dua2nya saling benci kr si heroine bpknya mati dan si hero temen baiknya dr kecil mati, tapi yah.. namanya novel, cinta mengalahkan segalanya

Series ini kelar, konfliknya cuma salah sangka si rerata.. gak yg dark atau ruwet gitu XD

So terribly terrible. Really bad almost DNF 3 times, 3rd time I was at 91% almost couldn’t be bothered just ended up skimming through the last few chapters. The characters are inconsistent and probably have split personality cause they say and feel one thing then claim to have said and felt something else. They’re “so rich” that “money goes from one pocket then goes back into the other pocket” over and over again. It’s actually stupid in its fawning over wealth. Some of the dialogue sounds like giddy school girls. And their brand of mafia bada$$ery is wimpy and weak. I guess you can’t enjoy this after reading Cora Reilly or Neva Altaj or Michelle Heard. First and last book I’ll read by this author. Sorry. It was really bad I tried giving 3 stars but it was consistently disappointing that towards the end I settled for a solid 2 stars.

DEARLY BETRAYED is the fourth instalment in BB Hamel’s contemporary, adult COSTA CRIME FAMILY dark, erotic, romance series. This is thirty five-year old Jayson Costa, and twenty-six year old Irish clan princess Fallon Grady’s story line. DEARLY BETRAYED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jayson and Fallon) DEARLY BETRAYED follows in the aftermath of the murder of Fallon’s father. The Costa crime family took action against the Grady Clan when an attack resulted in several murders. Vowing vengeance, the Costa’s killed the Grady patriarch, and to end the war, Rian Grady promised his sister Fallon as a peace offering. Enter Mafia prince Jayson Costa, and the man with whom Fallon will fall in love but neither one is willing to accept their new fate in life, and Fallon has plans to destroy them all. What ensues is the building relationship between Fallon and Jayson, and the potential fall-out as Fallon’s betrayal is discovered, and our heroine is targeted by someone from the past.

The world building looks at the ongoing rivalry and war between the Mafia and the Irish Clan. The Grady family resides in Ireland but Fallon is about to be shipped to America where she is forced to marry a man she does not love. Blaming Jayson, and the Costa family for the murder of her father, Fallon digs deep to uncover the truth, and in doing so, places herself in the direct line of fire.

The relationship between Fallon and Jayson begins acrimoniously. Jayson wants nothing to do with marrying a member of the Grady Irish mob, and Fallon is unable to forgive Jayson Costa for killing her father. A virtual prisoner in a gilded cage, Fallon will quickly discover that she is no longer safe even thousands of miles away from home. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, familiar and energetic secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story line couples. We are introduced to Fallon’s brother Rian, the new head of the Grady Clan, as well as the return of the Costa matriarch Nessa. Fallon is taken under the wing of the Don-Adler Costa’s wife Casey.

DEARLY BETRAYED is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, murder and repercussions, family and relationships, forgiveness, acceptance and love. The premise is dramatic and intense; the romance is seductive but struggles with issues of trust and hatred; the characters are desperate, determined, dynamic and charismatic.

This is one of the books I enjoyed reading in the Costa Crime Family series as well as Adler's and Casey's story.

Jayson and Fallon's story began as another forced marriage in this genre in order to stop a long war between the Irish and the Costa's that had taken so many lives. Neither Jayson or Fallon wanted the marriage (surprise) and basically hated each other due to the death of Fallon's father by Jayson's hand Opps...) and the death of Jackson, Jayson's closet friend and confident. So much misunderstanding from both sides of the equation, i.e., Jayson and Fallon's understanding of what happened to cause the war and why, which wasn't completely revealed until the end of the book. There was too much emphasis on one-sided information vs., actual reasoning between our two characters. I blame Adler and Rian for not sorting that out prior to the arranged marriage . Fallon's brother is a bit of a douche in the beginning of the book as the head of the Irish in how he forced Fallon into marrying Jayson with the biggest guilt trip ever. If she didn't marry Jayson the killing would continue and the war would rage on killing more and more people in their clan. Really? They couldn't come to the table and clean this mess up without putting two wedding rings on two staunch enemies and expecting them to live in the same house?

Once Fallon and Jayson are married the snark, bickering and annoyance continues often escalating to an unhealthy level until they finally agree to "suck it up" and stop trying to kill each other. The story then progresses as they begin to get to know one another on a deeper level which is the basis for the beginning of their slow burn love story. Fallon does some stupid things until she finally realizes that her feelings for Jayson are much more than she ever imagine. They begin to engage in a robust sexual relationship as they actively break down each other walls that have been built by past circumstances and eventually get to the point that the other's persons' words and actions means something to each of them, because they are no longer enemies, but lovers. The end is a bit rocky, but our couple lives to see another day.

Love the snarky verbal play between these two and then it get real! Loved it!

Loved it! Two strangers forced to marry to end the war between their families. She, the MFC, is mourning the loss of her father. He, the MMC, is mourning the loss of his best friend who died intercepting a bullet meant for him. Her father is responsible for the attempted hit on the MMC. The MMC is the man who ordered her father's death, and she blames him and his family for her father's death and for starting the war.

The MFC is the only sister of the head of the Irish mafia in Ireland; he took over upon their father's death. She's fiesty and a bit of a tomboy having only brothers. Her mouth often gets her in trouble when she's angry or upset. The MMC is the brother (2nd eldest of 4 sons) of the current head of the Italian mafia family in the states. He manages their business interests in England. He's an alpha who likes control. He struggles with guilt over the loss of his friend and hates being in the states letting someone else run his business.

Both have every reason to hate each other, but reluctantly agree to the marriage. She to save her younger cousins from this fate (if not her then one of them), and to keep more from dying. He to end the war, not good for business and he's lost too many friends. Their first meeting just before the wedding doesn't go well. He's rude and her mouth doesn't help. But there's physical attraction like neither has ever felt before, and her mouth has him intrigued.

As attraction grows, so does guilt. Loved the back and forth play between these two. Actions by those who doesn't want the war to end brings them closer, but it also leads to a discovery that documents were stolen with an intent to destroy him which threatens to tear them apart. Their emotions during this time are real and heartfelt.

Lots of steam, romance, great dialogue, lots of action and danger .. all make this an easy and entertaining read. 5 stars.

When Love Takes Away the Pain -
Fallon was livid when she received the news from her brother that she would entering into an arranged marriage for the benefit of the family, but she learnt to accept it after she laid eyes on Jayson. Even though Jayson wasn’t happy about having to marry Fallon, he felt an inexplicable attraction to her from the moment he kissed her at the wedding.

The start of Fallon and Jayson’s marriage was filled with bickering sessions and steamy sexual encounters to calm themselves down, but Fallon did something to betray Jayson that she subsequently regretted. Unfortunately, just as they finally acknowledged their feelings for each other, Jayson found out about Fallon’s betrayal, which threw their budding romance into disarray.

Luckily, Fallon and Jayson’s family were able to convince him to forgive her, so they could get a chance at a happily ever after. Fallon and Jayson not only found their happiness together, but they were able to bring both families together in peace. This is another excellent story with fascinating characters, exciting drama, angst and hot steamy scenes that will keep you eagerly turning the pages. I really can’t wait to read the next book.

“Dearly Betrayed” is the fourth book in the Costa Crime Family series by B. B. Hamel. It’s an arranged marriage, Mafia romance with intrigue and compassion.

Fallon is sister to the leader of an Irish crime family. When her brother wants her to marry and Jayson Costa to secure a piece between the two criminal organizations, she’s horrified – the Costa killed her beloved father. Yet, at the same time, she understands that she can save the lives of people in her own family by doing so. Jayson similarly wants no part of the marriage alliance. Fallon’s family is responsible for killing his best friend, and he can’t forgive that. He just wants to go back to his headquarters in London, and continue running Costa family interests there, as he has for the past decade.

Fallon and Jayson each do what needs to be done in service to their respective brothers, the leaders of the two Mafia families. They agree that they’ll muddle along until they can put an end to their marriage. The mutual attraction each feels for the other is an unacknowledged wildcard that complicates everything. Betrayal, regret, and revenge all get tied up in the unfolding story. I thought this book was entertaining, and it kept my attention through to the end.

Fallon and Grady bring peace to the families

Dearly Betrayed is the fourth book in the Costa Crime Family series. This story is about Fallon Grady and Jayson Costa. She is the daughter of the Irish Grady Clan and he is the son of the Costa Mafia family. Fallon's father was killed fighting the Costa family which has left her brother, Rian, now the chief of the clan. Rian want peace between the two families and to do that she needs to marry one of the Costa sons, which means she and Jayson matched. But Fallon has a way out, to refuse the match. When she does Rian tells her another woman from the clan will have to agree so she changes her mind to save them. The thing is that both Fallon and Jayson do not want the match and definitely do not want each other. They must stay married for at least a year so Jayson suggests faking it for that time. They will live together, do everything a married couple would do, except for consummate the marital bed. But when Jayson's older brother suggests that he try to have a real marriage will he be able to woo Fallon to convince her that they can have a real marriage, love and family?
This is a wonderful addition to the series about the Costa siblings. Fallon and Jayson make for a fascinating read as they go from hate to married to love to more. I really enjoyed this story.

This is the 4th story in the A Fake Marriage Mafia series. Jayson runs the families holdings in London he and his men have been at war with the Grady Irish Clan. With the death of their clan leader both sides come up with a way to end the war. An arranged marriage - Fallon is told after her father is buried that she needs to play her part and marry Jayson the very man who killed her father. The hate and despise for this stranger is all she has to think about. Jayson lost his best friend when Fallon’s father started the war trying to kill him. These two meet with mixed emotions, marry with a beautiful kiss, walk a thin line between hate, enjoyment of being intimate to feeling betrayed and having broken hearts. Their marriage should have ended the war but some of the Irish take the opportunity to kill Fallon and Jayson rains his rage on all those responsible. At the same time Fallon’s impulsive actions before finding love with Jayson comes back to her being held a prisoner by Adler the mafia boss, Jayson’s older brother. Great story.
I loved this story & struggled to put it down at times. Fallon & Jayson's relationship was full of hate from the start each as he had killed her dad but in the war & her dad was responsible for killing his best friend but to end the war between the rival families they were forced to be married to each other. It started as a hate hate but then that turned to hate lust with trading spiteful remarks at each other leading to lots of steam but deep down there was still hate bubbling away & Fallon was not going to play happy families & was out for revenge. Jayson had fallen for Fallon even though he tried his best not to & thought she felt the same way until she committed the ultimate betrayal & I wasn't sure if there was any coming back from that no matter how hard she tried to tell him she was sorry. I loved seeing the other Costa family member & how the wives had made her feel part of the family especially Casey .
This story had danger, pain, betrayal, lots of steam but at times quite emotional & I was reading with tissues dabbing my eyes.
This has been an amazing series & definitely recommend reading.

DNF. I was ready to give up by chapter 5, I barely made it to chapter 10, so if you're reading this, just know I didn't make it past chapter 10.

I found the last book disappointing and somewhat infuriating, but this one is just infuriating.

The timeline is incongruent. In Book 2, we're led to believe there's a mystery with Erick. Conlan and Isabella are talking about Erick not returning and avoiding phone calls, and Jayson is "allegedly going out to Vegas to check in. That's where book 2 ends.

Erick's story is in book 3, and none of that gets addressed, like it never even happened. In fact, none of the other brothers barely get mentioned. So I thought maybe it would get resolved in book 4.

Here's where the timeline math doesn't math and why I'm pretty sure that the mystery at the end of book 2 was just for fluff to finish out a chapter.

Book 3 has Helison in the desert house for 1 year 7 months. We find out she's 2 months pregnant the same days Erick proposes marriage at the end. Book 4 Jayson tells us that Erick has been married a couple years and his kid was born "just over a year ago" (chapter 5)

The other major issue that I have with this book is that it feels nearly identical to book 3...and again, I only made it 10 chapters.

To stop a war, Jayson and Fallon must get married. Neither want too because both have been hurt by death. Fallon hates Jayson because he killed her father. Jayson hates Fallon because her father killed his best friend. Fallon decides she’s going to go all in and try in the married until she meets Jayson. He is filled with so much hate and wants nothing to do with Fallon. They agree they’ll end the marriage after a year. Fallon’s is so angry she seeks revenge and betrays Jayson after they get married. Then they discover they are developing feelings for each other. Fallon’s betrayal comes out and she almost loses Jayson. They both realize they have let go of their hate to move forward. Jayson forgives Fallon. This book has a lot of emotions from grief to hate to love. These two are thrown together and have to really look at what they want in the relationship. They are both hurt by the past and it is difficult to take the leap. When they finally do it’s explosive. This book had me on edge at times and so engrossed in the story that I read it in one day! I love all of BB Hamel’s books. I get sucked into the writing and the characters and don’t want the books to end.

This book features Jayson Costa. This fourth brother in the Costa Crime family. And his arranged marriage to Fallon Grady. This is a marriage to bring the families together and stop the war. The problem is Jayson ordered the killing of Fallon’s father, the head of the Grady clan. So Fallon hates her husband and tries to bring him down. And Jayson hates the Grady clan for starting the war and killing his best friend and many innocent bystanders. But something comes over Jayson when he sees Fallon walking down the aisle at their wedding. He is mesmerized and full of desire to claim his bride in every way. It takes a few days but finally they find common ground. This quickly grows into a deeper relationship. And when someone tries to kill Fallon, Jayson goes full protector. Everything seems to be great until Fallon realizes that she did something wrong. And she gets caught trying to get rid of the evidence. Can Jayson forgive her? Will Adler allow it? This story is fast paced and full of angst, steamy love, and danger. I enjoyed it very much. I did receive an advance copy for my honest review.

How do you stop a war between 2 families – you get married to the enemy of course! Jayson is part of the Costa family. Fallon Grady is from the Grady clan and her father was just killed by Jayson. To keep the families from continuing to kill of each other, a marriage pact is made between the Costa and Grady families. Fallon doesn’t want anything to do with it, but knows she has to do the right thing for her family. Determined to take the man down who killed her father, she puts her plan in motion. Jayson is not happy about the marriage either, as the Grady clan killed his best friend. Unfortunately, neither Jayson or Fallon can deny there is some connection there.

As the two grow closer, someone is out to kill Fallon or Jayson or even both of them. When they find out it is coming from within the Grady clan, Jayson will do anything to protect Fallon. But what happens when the truth is revealed that Fallon is betraying the Costa family? Will she be sent back and have to deal with the threats on her own? Will the Costa family kill her?

From the start I liked it! This was an enemies to lovers romance, but the chemistry between Fallon & Jayson was intense. They’ve been arranged to marriage to solidify a truce between their families, & neither is happy. These two were dynamite right f/the start. I love the way both their families were the voices of reason trying to convince them to give each other a chance. I really liked Fallon & her sassy spirit. But her need for revenge & to destroy him was a little ott & obsessive. She was selfish & only thought of her pain. She refused to consider her dad was to blame & only saw Jayson responsible & as the enemy. And when she finally came to her senses it was too, all the progress they made was almost destroyed because of her actions. I loved Jayson, he tried endlessly w/her to make her happy & to give their marriage a real shot. And even after her betrayal came out, he was mad & felt betrayed, but he still loved her. The sex between these two was very hot & steamy!
This was another excellent book f/BB, & I’m crossing my fingers for Rian’s story! I want more from Ireland.

Despair, hatred, resentment, desire for revenge, all of them were strong emotions that dragged Fallon into a situation worse than that she had wanted to get rid of. Only one thing seemed to have mattered: loyalty to her people, but what was her heart telling her? Fallon's situation was difficult with everything she had been taught all her life. Her eyes were opening to a reality that seemed to promise her something she wanted and that could be lasting, but would it be too late for her? I think Fallon hit the jackpot with this man. It took a lot for him to face the situation and have a vote in front of his family. I despaired of Fallon's decisions and thanked that Chim did his part. I love these gangster stories full of emotions, suspense, action, a lot of passion and strong controversies that keep me guessing what's going to happen. Enjoyed how the author presented the decision-making process and the challenges that the protagonists faced. Very good ending to the series.

4.5 Stars!! There is Jayson Costa who lives in London and runs the Costa family European operations. He has been in a war with the Grady Clan since he started moving into Ireland. Then there is Fallon Grady, who loves her family and decides to do what is necessary to end this war, marry Jayson, the man who murdered her father. She loved her father and was always daddy's little girl though a bit of a tom boy. When her brother tells her this is what she needs to do, she vows to bring Jayson Fallon down. But as she gets to know him and learns more about the war, feelings change. Jayson also knows while he may hate what Fallon stands for, she is his wife and Costa's protect what it there. When Fallon does something unthinkable in a mafia family, will that be the end of the marriage and the start of a new war? Lots going on in this book that keeps you reading to the last page.

What I liked- Wow, this book was good! I liked the characters and their banter. Zexytime scenes were totally hot. And this author does Enemies to Lovers right.
What I didn’t like- not much. The book is billed as a Fake Marriage romance, but it’s really Arranged Marriage.

As a huge fan of this author, and the Costa Mafia series, I greedily grabbed this when it became available. This is the final brother to find his HEA - although it did not begin smoothly!

Both Fallon and Jayson are victims of the territory war, processing their grief and blaming the other's family for their pain. In an effort to unite the families, these two are paired, and married. And as we know, these possessive Costa men aren't that easy to handle.

I appreciated how the wives befriended Fallon, and Casey's perspectives. This has the drama, steamy chemistry and tension between characters that we expect from this author in these pages, and I could not put this one down. It's not as over the top as a few of the others, but their connection and HEA was very entertaining and satisfying.

Reading this in the correct order is important, in my opinion, but this could be a stand-alone if you choose. I am happy to leave my review, and encourage you to read more

Forced To Marry My Enemy
This mafia romance is about Jayson Costa, the fourth and final brother in the Costa Crime Family Series. He is being forced to marry to Fallon Grady to end the war between the Italian Costa Mafia Family and the Irish Grady Clan. They hate each other for the perishment of those they love in this war, but neither can deny the attraction and electric chemistry that ignites between them. This is an intriguing steamy mafia romance loaded with emotion, revenge, betrayal, violence and so much more. These two characters bring the best out in each other. If only they can learn forgiveness and trust so they can figure out how to have their happy ever after. This can be read as a standalone, but I certainly loved reading more about the characters in the first three books of this series.

Mafia Factions at War!!

The body count is getting too high. A truce is the best solution for both sides. Jayson Costa is to marry Fallon Grady in three days. Neither are happy, but both are willing to sacrifice for their family. Fallon must leave Dublin and travel to Atlantic City in the US to marry Jayson. Jayson lost his best friend, but then actively killed Fallon’s father (who caused the death).

An attempt in good faith to make the best of things is declined. If they keep their distance an annulment can occur in one year.

Emotional, sizzling, entertaining and just the right amount of dark. It will draw you in on page one and keep you captive until “the end”. If you are fortunate you will recognize the brothers and their wives from previous stories in the series - all are phenomenal.

The Grady Clan has been at war for the last two years with part of the Costa Crime Family. Colm Grady is killed. Rian is now the acting clan chief. He wants peace so he strikes a deal with Adler Costa, Don of the Costa family. Fallon Grady, Rian’s sister is to marry Jayson Costa, Adler’s brother to unite the two families.

Fallon hates this arrangement because Jayson is the one that had their father killed. Jayson hates the arrangement because Colm Grady started the war and Jayson’s best friend Jackson got killed protecting Jayson. The other problem is they are attracted to each other and hate each other at the same time.

Fallon and Jayson were both great characters in this book. I loved how they knew how to push each other’s buttons.

Fallon Grady is told she needs to marry Jayson Costa, the man who killed her father. The war between the Grady's and the Costa's have spilled enough blood on both sides. Fallon hates Jayson, Jayson hates Fallon. To be the better person Fallon hopes to come to a type of truce prior to the wedding only to find out Jayson has no intentions of getting to know her at all. It just gives Fallon the fuel to do what she wanted in the first place, destroy Jayson. What happens though when close proximity is involved and feelings for one another begin to arise?

This was the final book I believe in this series. I was curious to see what Jayson's story would be and this was a bit of a surprise. Fallon is a hellion and I thought her and Jayson fit well together. Another great book by this author.

This is the story of the last of the four brothers, the second son, Jayson. I'd agree with their mother that none of them have chosen their wives in the "normal" way. But then, despite that they managed to find their own happy lives and they love their family fiercely.

My favorite part was the wedding. I can perfectly imagine his reaction when he saw his bride walk down the aisle. Their first kiss was perfect.

Our MMC was a bit aggressive but we also saw a soft side in him. We saw how he treated his wife. He believed in her, still loved her, even if she chose to betray him.

I can't say which of the four is my favorite. They are "crazy" but they have their own redeeming qualities. Their wives could testify to that.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

★“You’re devout?”…“Enough to know a devil when I see one.”…“Smart girl.”★

What are mafia big brothers for? Good for making their family members dance to their “greater good” tune! Both Fallon and Jayson tie the knot against their most fervent wishes, but they have no choice but to be reluctant spouses. However, one thing does work in their favor - their mutual attraction! Just maybe, there may be a future together after all, and wishes for annulment may be tossed by the wayside…that is, if they can only agree (admit) to a good reason to stay together after their agreed-upon one-year marriage contract. Dual POVs move the story at a great pace and kept me turning the pages to see how it worked out. The only thing I did not really enjoy was his name, oddly enough (maybe it was the spelling)!?
