When 16-year-old Chloe finds out a teen version of her favorite fashion-design reality show is holding auditions in her town she's thrilled but also nervous. She's always loved fashion and design, but taking her talent to TV is beyond intimidating. To make matters worse, a school nemesis is also planning to audition and is determined to win. With all the pressure, Chloe can't help but wonder, does she have what it takes to make the cut?
Chloe wants to become a fashion designer, but there is this gilr in her school that has stolen all of her trends and designs and has given her zero credit. So Chloe takes her chance of her life when her favorite fashion tv channel comes for auditions in her town. Then she realizes her arch enemy is in the competition as well... Diva Design is a book about self confidence, being brave and effort.
Fans of Project Runway will gobble up this series! A short, quick read - 9 chapters and less than 100 pages. Chloe LOVES fashion. She hopes to be a fashion designer when she grows up. Her favorite TV show is Design Diva. A fashion design reality show where people present their designs to 3 judges. Of course one is snarky and rude, the other complimentary and the third is super handsome. Chloe and her best friend watch the show every week, and this week the show announced there will be a competition specifically for teens! Of course auditions will be near Chloe's house in California so she begins sketching and hopes to make it to the competition. No story would be complete without a rival named Nina who also wants to make it to the competition. Back story: Nina has been stealing Chloe's ideas for years...I think we see where this is going.
This is just the 1st book in the Chloe by Design series. Because they are so short, I'm going to continue the series.
I really wanted to like this book. It was compared to one of my favorite books of all time, The Allegra Biscotti Collection , but unfortunately, this book didn't really work for me.
16-year-old Chloe loves fashion-- she has since she was a little girl. So when her favorite fashion show announces that they’re doing a teen contest, Chloe can’t wait to get designing! But the further along Chloe gets into it, the more nervous she gets. To make matters worse, Nina, her enemy that’s been stealing her designs since she was five, is also doing the contest. Can Chloe get past the drama, and do what she’s passionate about? I felt like I had to be told that Chloe loved fashion, but I definitely didn’t feel her passion. At all. There were no details of how she put together the designs. She showed up to the judges and is like “oh yeah, that design was tough, but I pushed through it”, instead of us getting to see her thought process and her struggle to finish it. A lot of telling not showing. I felt as if I was missing part of the book. Passion 100% not conveyed. This book just… didn’t seem genuine. When reading a book like this, I want to feel inspired. I want to feel energized. Even if the main character is passionate about something that I don’t know anything about, I still want to care about their success. For this book, I wanted to be on the edge of my seat, cheering Chloe on with her designs. That wasn’t the case. Everything lacked emotion. I didn’t care about any character whatsoever. In the grand scheme of things… This book was just very underdeveloped. As readers, we knew nothing about Chloe’s parents. Except that they were her parents. They had no qualities or interests that made them multi-dimensional characters. They just agreed with her the entire time without really contributing anything. I also felt as if Chloe's designs didn't reflect her passion for fashion. They weren't bad, per say, but they lacked creativity. Spark. Something that made it stand out from the rest. I understand that she referred to her style as a more “minimalist” and “modern” approach, but isn’t that what being a fashion designer is--setting the trends, making the statements, not just following what everyone else does and playing it safe? It’s like having a main character who's passionate about food or whatever. Maybe baking. It would be as if the main character didn’t have a sophisticated pallet. If they only enjoyed eating pizza, fries, and burgers, would that be any fun? Instead have them go out, try different cultures, explore, and experiment. Stepping out of your comfort-zone, is it not? Is Chloe really living up to her potential? Also them 16? LOL, yeah, right. More like 12. Trust me, that isn't how teenagers act. I could definitely see other people enjoying this book a lot more than me (maybe ones that can enjoy the book for what it is), but it's just not my cup of tea. If you like fast-paced, quick, light-hearted books with a touch of drama and fashion, this book may be for you. Also there were some very colorful drawings that added nice visuals. It was wicked sort, so I may or may not read the rest of the series.
I really can relate because I love that she is very creative and she thinks with a positive attitude all it can take is one of your girls or bffs and they'll change your life! I really want to recommend this for people who are into fashion!
Very good book.Makes it stand out even better as it leaves it the way it is.It is an amazing short chapter book with pictures here and there that really help you grasp the concept.
I could not put this book down! I'm not as advanced when it comes to clothing and design, but there were great pictures that gave me a perfect understanding of what they were saying. Amazing!
it was pretty short but a good book its like one of those books u would read in ur free time when u have nothing to do and yk itll be an easy read i look forward to continuing the series
Design Diva (Chloe by design) is written by Margaret (Margie) Gurevich. I think that Margie did a great job writing this book. It's about this girl named Chloe Montgomery who wants to become a fashion designer and she joins this contest wear you design many different outfits and have many different contests and this one girl named Alex who is her best friend and Alex helps Chloe through the whole process and goes with her whenever she had to travel. I think that the author did a really good job writing the book and I would totally recommend this to others. I think that the author could have put more in with Chloe's mom and dad, but more of her mom because there is hardly anything about her parents in the story. I also think that the author could have put more of a character named Nina. I think that this book would be good for people who like to read easier books.
This book talks about a girl that is inspired of fashio and designing clothes. The girl had to compete with a girl called Jasmine was never happy about fashion so she never smiled. The girl and his friend thought that with the cutest boy with fashion clothes would make her smile or to be happy so they tried to do that.(I only read till this part)
I'm not a fashionista at all but I was able to follow the design aspects I'm the story. this book was cute and a quick read, now I'm a little more interested in fashion. Interested in the other books in this series.
