When obsession Drives you, how can you possibly be expected to control it?

Jenni Folgari is one of the lead detectives in the Arson and Explosive crime investigation unit in Melbourne. She loves her job and her partner … maybe just a little too much.

As Jenni unlocks secrets from her past, she will face a sordid family history while trying to keep her career intact. Her partner, Jason Switzer has always had her back, but his feelings for her could very well blur the professional line he’s always sworn to uphold.

With a new case to add to their work load, now more than ever they can’t afford to make any mistakes. A serial arsonist is on the loose and he’s got more in mind than his burning obsession.

Walker has always loved the thrill of a good fire, but lately his thoughts have turned to more disturbing fantasies. From state to state Walker is hunted like the animal he is, but can Jenni and Jason catch him before he delivers his show stopping finale too close to home?

Did you ever see that episode on Criminal Minds with the Arsonist ? The one where he ends up locking all those people in the movie theatres to get back at one girl - his twin sister ? As I started to read this book, the episode kept flicking back in my mind . As a huge fan of Criminal solving shows and one of my all-time favourite authors being James Patterson. I am always on the lookout for new mystery series to read. However, I don't read just any mystery - when it comes to mysteries I am really a picky reader as it has to be captivating in the first chapter , fast-paced and keep you in suspense right through the novel, none of this going into far too many details like a few authors I have tried.
Australian Author Shelly Pratt has proven that she has what it takes to write an awesome detective novel as I bring the readers direction to her first book in the Detective Folgari series "Burning Obsession" .
We all know what its like to have obsessions, they become addicting and the next one has to be bigger than before , we can't help ourselves - we just have to continue it otherwise things just don't feel right. In Burning Obsession, we meet main character Tommy Walker aka Christian Bower . He first experienced his hit at 10yrs old and from there it grew and grew as he moved around. Now years later , someone is getting close to discovering his secret and he can't afford -not yet anyway to give it up. Can Christian find a way to keep his secret underwraps ? When Police are called to investigate the new crimes happening , it seems that this time around the police are closing in but can they keep up with Christian and his "Burning Obsession".
Without giving too much of the story away, what I loved about this book was that the ending though it finished on a cliffhanger , it wasn't an obvious one and it left the reader feeling sastified as that for me is one of the worst things that quite a few authors do - they finish the book or leave the book hanging on a crucial part and then the reader has to wait like a whole year or so for the next book to come out. With Burning Obsession it was a lovely change as I felt relaxed and it didn't make me annoyed about having to wait. Which by the way readers I so cannot wait for the second book as to find out which direction Shelly Pratt is going to take Detective Jenni Folgari and Tommy Walker - the guy with the Burning Obsession.

I read this one for an honest review via the author on FB. Uncertain what exactly the plot was going to be, I watched as the plot unfolded in fascination. This was a great detective story with true crime elements that were shiver worthy. Being from a psychology background, I find insights within characters intriguing. When they are spot on, and disturbing enough to be believed, they have that spying through the fingers sort of fascination not a lot of us admit openly to having. This series was there with it.
Hard, gritty, at times difficult (though never vulgar for the sake of it, all was true to character), and hot; this book literally left me trying to scroll for more story. If you like crime fiction, detectives, and a twisting plot, check this one out. I've already asked the author to let me know when the next ones comes out because I will not miss it.

An intense and terrifying look inside the mind of a serial arsonist!! Shelly Pratt's "Burning Obsession" has you breathlessly anticipating the capture of the insanely malicious Tommy, yet he keeps slipping away. Enter Detective Folgari, a strong, independent woman whose zealousness allowed her to successfully climb the ranks faster than most of the guys in her male-dominated profession. Get ready to ride an emotional roller coaster when you read this book: disgust, fear, anticipation, pity, hope... Not to mention, the scorching romantic scenes! After reading, "Switch", I knew I wanted to read more of Shelly Pratt's work and I wasn't disappointed in the least with this one! Can't wait for the next installment of the Detective Folgari series.

This book I couldn't put down. When I first picked it up I wasn't sure that this was my genre to read. The character development was AMAZING. Ms. Pratt got the crazy psycopath spot on! Tommy's thoughts and actions were so distubing! She was also able to nail the hard assed detective's actions! This book had it all....crazy psychopath, an adopted child looking for her birth parents, love, romance, suspense, oh yeah and that darn hard assed jerk of a boss and a believable cliffhanger that leaves you ready for book #2! It's a must read and a book that you won't be able to put down!

First let me apologize at how I might write this review add I've never written one before but since the author was so kind to gift me this book, I thought I should review it. I was pulled into this book right from the start! So much so it only took me a day to read it! Between the psychotic Tommy, the chemistry between Jason and Jenni, the book is just fab. It left me wanting to read more! I think this is a definite must read, add it to your tbr list and go buy it and read it!!

Shelly Pratt has written an intense, thrilling, and a little bit disturbing novel with Burning Obsession. It is filled with thrills as Tommy sets his world on fire, and anticipation as Jenni and Jason's partnership deepens during their search for a psychopathic serial arsonist.
