I really enjoyed this book and I fell head over heels in LOVE with Jack.

This story starts off with Jack moving back to Chicago. He's never forgotten the love he had for Sasha all those years ago so he hires Sasha to landscape his rooftop garden hoping to get a second chance at love with her.

Jack was my favorite character of this book, ladies, he was so sexy, caring, patient and OH SO KINKY! He was also smart and worked so hard to be where he was in life.

I really liked that Sasha ran her own landscape design business, I though this was a nice touch and added a lot to my overall enjoyment. I liked Sasha's character too but I felt it took her a bit too long to finally realize that Jack was the man for her.

The love scenes were SCORCHING and were on the kinky side. They definitely had me squirming and wishing that Jack was my man, I'd let him tie me up anytime.

I was very satisfied with the conclusion, I thought it ended in the best possible way for Sasha and Jack.

I've enjoyed both books in this series Sweet Obsessions and All Messed Up. Now I'm waiting on book 3, Playing Dirty to be released in January 2015. This will be a must read for me.

Over the last few months I’ve read a lot of books that deal with the practice of Shibari (bondage), some have been very good and some not so much, so with each book I kind of have to clear my mind and cleanse my palette so I can go in without being tainted by what I’ve read before.

What I love about Sweet Obsession by Kelly Jamieson is that this couple because of an incident back in their teens has to overcome some pretty big obstacles in order to get to where they are going. Yes, this book deals with the practice of Shibari but it mostly deals with coming to terms with who you are and what you need and for that I’m eternally grateful because I truly believe that many people don’t understand that BDSM practices go beyond want, it’s something many people need to feel whole. Ms. Jamieson did a stellar job of showing how having these needs mess with your head, having other people tell you it’s wrong makes you have doubts, and how refusing to be honest with yourself can hold you back from finding out who you really are. While this is a romance, it’s truly a book about self discovery and owning up to your desires.

Twelve years ago Sasha Bendel and her then boyfriend Jack Grenville were caught in a very compromising position by her parents. Sasha was 16, Jack was 18 and the next day Jack had dropped out of school and left town. While somewhat devastated that he didn’t say good-bye, Sasha after many lectures and heart to heart talks with her parents and a therapist came to be believe it was for the best that what they had done together was wrong, immoral, and bordered on abuse. But Jack is back in Chicago and wants to hire Sasha to create an outdoor garden for his condo. He wants more, but Sasha is determined to keep her distance despite the fact that her body craves what she knows only he can give her.

First off I totally get wanting to please your parents and worrying about what and how they think about you but at some time in your life, you have to grow up and stop letting them rule your life. Unfortunately although Sasha finally moved out of her parent’s home she was still ruled by what they wanted and often let them set her up with suitable men. Needless to say when Jack walks back into her life she doesn’t think she can have a relationship with him because she knows it will upset her parents and she’s scared of the things he may want from her.

I understand her being cautious, I understand her being afraid but what I don’t understand is that she admits the things they did together excited her, she dreams about things he might want to do but she refuses to acknowledge she wants these things. She is one of those characters that I truly wanted to slap and tell her to snap out of it. Twenty eight years old and despite being a successful businesswoman on her own she was letting other people’s opinions cloud her own judgment.
From the first moment I was intrigued by Jack and after hearing everything that happened years ago, I admire everything he’s accomplished. I’m happy that he was able to overcome the obstacles in his life, figured out how to channel his energy, and how to accept his needs. While I felt he might have overstepped a little bit with Sasha, I understand why he did it and I think he was right to push her because she wasn’t being honest about her feelings.

While there was no doubt Jack has a dominate side I appreciate the fact that he didn’t move too quickly with Sasha and that when she got scared he backed off demonstrating the patience he was taught. I also liked that Sasha’s roommate Kevin tried to help her understand Jack’s kink and that it was okay if it was something she wanted. Kevin was an interesting character and his involvement with Jack’s sister, Emma, added some extra excitement to this story.

This was one of those books I appreciate because in addition to be a very sexy story of reunited lovers it also contains a very important message. Sweet Obsession while containing aspects of BDSM is really more about acceptance of who you are, what you need, and not being afraid to fly your kink flag proudly.

My rating: 4.5 of 5 ⭐️

Back in Chicago, twelve years after he left destitute, heartbroken and confused, Jack Grenville has certainly come up in the world. Literally. New owner of a luxurious penthouse, the online security mogul now overlooks the gorgeous skyline of the city that once spit him out. The years of hard work at his business and gentle guidance from his mentor have helped him find his place in the world. But one thing is missing. The girl he left behind twelve years ago.

With her landscaping business starting to make a name for itself, Sasha Bandel should be thrilled with her prospects. However, the reality of bills piling up because your last big client disappeared without ever turning over the money he owed you, serves to bring on a sense of despair. So when a job opportunity comes in for the design of an elaborate roofgarden in one of Chicago's hottest neighborhoods, Sasha's hopes spring alive. That is, until she meets the owner of the penthouse, Jack Grenville.

Jack had known for years he would end up back here, face to face with Sasha. Having come to terms long ago with his penchant for bondage and discipline, he also knew from his teenage expirementations with Sasha that she might not be receptive to him or his preferences now. From her initial reaction to him, it seemed he affected her as much as she did him. But it was more than simple chemistry he needed from her.

To say Sasha was shocked is an understatement. Jack is the one who spoiled her for anyone who tried to follow in his footsteps. And although their youthful love ended abruptly and quite traumatically, she never stopped thinking of him. Caution instilled by years of parental manipulation dictated she walk away, but profesional desparation and secret desires convince her to give this another chance.

****

A tittilating study of the struggle between that which we have been taught is right, and that which we feel is right for us. The truth is, there is no right or wrong when it comes to two people experiencing love the way they both choose to.

Kelly Jamieson portrays two characters who at a young age experiment with non-mainstream expressions of love through some mild BDSM play. Caught and separated, they each go their own way, with Jack exploring the reasons for his curiosity and Sasha being forced into shame for her participation.

Over the years, Jack has become someone quite comfortable with his sexual preferences, but they still mean nothing if he can't experience them with Sasha. Training in martial arts seem to fit the controlled strength and patience you would think appropriate for a Dominant. And his power has come, not from the wealth he has acquired, but the struggle it was to get where he is now.

The sexual naivite and openness that once allowed Sasha to explore her curiosity has all but been eroded. Not just by her parent's initial reaction to her sexual experimentations with Jack, but also her family's ongoing protective control exerted on her life. Taking the step away from under the family's protective umbrella to forge her own destiny in landscaping, was a decidedly unpopular one. And not even her success could encourage their acknowledgement.

Ms. Jamieson very beautifully describes the internal struggle faced by Sasha in particular, who not only has to deal with her own conflict around wanting something so desperately that she should be feeling guilty for. But also with the reality of dealing with parents who already don't approve of much she does.

This novel also holds one of the most beautiful Shibari scenes I have ever encountered, mostly described by using the senses. It absolutely gave me goosebumps!! In fact, all of the love scenes in this book are gorgeous in their presentation. Something I have come to adore about Kelly Jamieson's books.

A great glimpse at the juncture where the choice of an alternative lifestyle touches the expectations and judgements of the world around us.

✨An insightful, revealing and sensory indulgence!✨

I am a big fan of Jamieson's. Read all her books, pre-ordered this at Amazon, and was psyched when it turned up on my Kindle. So I curled up in bed and started reading, and reading..until 2am. Not because it was too great to stop, but because it was so bad and I just kept thinking maybe if I press on I will finally get to a good part.

Because I know Kelly Jamieson's books, they are good.

Just everything was wrong here. First I'm bored sh*tless by the whole left-town-poor-returned-years-later-a-millionaire hero. Especially a tech millionaire with an improbably awesome body and social skills. Kelly's heroes are usually a lot more interesting than that over-used stock character. So he's into kink, he's still a stock character.

And the heroine, ugh! She's wispy, breathy, easily overwhelmed, big eyed, naïve, dithering, blah. Kelly tries to redeem her by making her a small business owner, but it didn't work because even there she needs rescuing.

Then there's the book's structure. It just meanders. I now know every detail of every meal ( don't read this book if you're hungry), the decor of every room including the elevator, the details of every outfit everyone is wearing, how the hero paid for dinner (a credit card).... On and on. Sure you need some of this to ground the story, but too much and it feels like the author was floundering, putting anything she could on paper to fill the pages because she really wasn't into the story herself. And clearly this book wasn't run by a good copy editor, no typos but just tons of stuff that could have been cut or tightened.

If you are looking for kink - which admittedly I was not, I'm into character-driven stories and witty banter in exchange for which I'm willing to plow through a bit of kink (or skip ahead) - this book will also largely disappoint. There's teasing, there's vanilla sex, there's endless daily life details ....and you keep thinking the kink is just around the corner. But the heroine is dithering. The whole book practically is her dithering about it, on and on. You know you'll get to the kink sometime, after all it's in the book title. But this book is not kinky. It's about whether or not to try to be kinky if that's your nature.

So anyway, Kelly I still love you, but you had an off day. I get the feeling your heart wasn't in this one.

Sweet Obsession by Kelly Jamieson is the first book in her Windy City Kink series and what a start it is! This is a sexy and steamy story with all kinds of kinkiness! A second chance romance with a twist!

Jack Grenville is back and determined to win back the woman he loves. Sasha was hurt when Jack left and because of her parent’s interference, believed letting him go was the right thing. Now she is running a business, but needs one big client to save it. But she never expected her ex to be her next client.

Sweet Obsession deals with BDSM, bondage and lots of kinks and a man determined to win back the woman he has always wanted. High school sweethearts who now have a second chance, but can Sasha accept her hidden desires? Sweet Obsession was both a steamy and charming read!

Happy reading!

I am speechless after reading this story. I knew it would be good as I have loved most of Kelly's books. But this one was so sensual. I love Jack, even in his most alpha of behavior, because he is so gentle and tender. I love how he pursued Sasha and didn't let her run from him. Beautiful story and very well written. I would have loved a little more into the epilogue, but that is just me being greedy.

My favorite part of the book, and it isn't really a spoiler was when he brushed Sasha's hair. That was such a tender loving moment that gave me goosebumps. I cannot wait for more of this series!

Has an interesting plot but was written so flat. It was like getting text book information and tuning it out.
The h took forever to embrace her kink and was just blah. She was all over the place with her thoughts and emotions.
The H I guess was supposed to be a dominant with a rope kink but he was not giving that at all.
It was overall a much snooze fest.

I was really looking forward to this book, not only because I love a little kink in my romance, but also due to the second chance love story. It’s one of my favorite tropes in romance.

Sasha is from a well-to-do family, but her desire to become a successful business woman in her own right is something she strives for every day. She doesn’t want to live in her family’s shadow, so her landscaping business is her baby. When a client screws her over, she is left in a tough financial bind, and must take a job that brings up more of her past than she is ready to deal with.

Jack and Sasha were high school sweethearts, and when they were caught exploring bondage, the consequences were more than either could bear. Now that Jack has his life together, he wants Sasha back. Hiring her to work on his patio garden is the first step in getting close to her. Convincing her they still have a spark will take more than Jack ever expected, especially since Sasha is living with a lot of guilt regarding their past. But their sexual chemistry is strong, and together, they just might be able to build a relationship that neither will be able to walk away from.

There were a lot of really great aspects to this story, but one little thing continued to rub me the wrong way: Sasha’s guilt and regret and shame over being caught with Jack as kids. While I can understand why she felt that way, it seemed as if she never wanted to deal with her feelings, never wanted to find an underlying reason for why she was turned on by bondage. Even after her roommate sat down and explained the BDSM lifestyle to her, she continued to stick her head in the sand and deny what was right in front of her. It got to be a little annoying, especially since her personality was to dig in and research every job, every opportunity. She was thorough and inventive with her business, and yet, in her personal life, she was okay with living under a rock. For me, that attitude just didn’t jive.

That being said, there were a lot of amazing aspects to this book as well. I loved the way Jack was able to come to grips with his teenaged decisions, and move on to become stronger, more confident, and successful. While most of this development happened off the page, we got to see it in the way Jack handled Sasha, in his memories, and in his overall attitude toward life. I really liked Jack, despite a few bonehead decisions he made.

The way that Sasha and Jack told her parents about their relationship was beautiful. I loved the fact that Sasha’s parents weren’t one hundred percent okay with it, and yet were open to learning more. It was a very realistic way of dealing with a potentially volatile situation, and I thought Jamieson handled it wonderfully.

The romance had it’s ups and downs. While there were a lot of things I really liked, it was slow to develop. It took me quite a few chapters to really get into the story, and I wasn’t pulled into Sasha and Jack’s romance like I expected. I loved the way Jack was so patient with Sasha, and also pushed at her when he knew she needed the nudge. Although I felt like the beginning could have used a bit of a jump start, I liked the way these two eventually came together.

The secondary characters in this book were interesting as well. I’ll be interested to see what other kinks Jamieson explores in this series. I hope that the next book will be about Sasha’s roommate, Kevin, because I can’t think of any story I’ve read and enjoyed with a cross-dressing hero.

All in all, this was a very interesting book. Jamieson has taken a kink that isn’t seen much in romance and made it into something beautiful and special. Although there was only a few key bondage scenes, they were very well done and amazingly written. I’m anxious to see what Jamieson has in store for readers next.
I give Sweet Obsession a C+

In Sweet Obsession, Sasha gets a chance at rekindling a relationship with her high school love. Jack and Sasha shared their first love together, but after an embarrassing encounter that was discovered by Sasha's parents they are separated. Neither has forgotten the other, but have gone on with their lives. After being forced from Sasha, Jack was driven to become extremely successful and has returned to see if there is anything left to rekindle with Sasha. Jack has learned a lot about what drives him and how to channel his desires appropriately and in a safe way. Sasha is still uncertain and insecure about her own desires. By taking a chance with Jack Sasha learns to trust him to help her discover and embrace her own needs. Sweet Obsession provides a well written erotic romance that will appeal to a wide variety of readers. There aren't any hardcore or disturbing scenes, just sweet kink that will keep the reader flipping pages.

I had a hard time separating from reality in order to enjoy this story. I loved Jack, but he’s an idiot for perusing Sasha. She has not matured emotionally or sexually since the moment they were caught by her parents. If I was Jack’s friend I’d be warning that this red flag of a girl isn’t worth the risk. Jack’s major flaw is that if he’s really so experienced in bdsm he should know when someone is mentally incapable of being a submissive. I fully believe Sasha falls into that category.

Sasha willfully ignores what she wants and chooses to see him as an abuser. If that’s what she feel then the relationship should have stopped there. She clings to the concept of being a helpless little girl to avoid personal responsibility for what she wants and feels. This is the most annoyed I’ve been by a character in a long time. Like is really meant to be that naive as a woman in her late 20s or is it some kind of way to appease her parents? Either way it’s not appropriate for her to be a participant in any of Jack’s interests. Additionally she’s super jealous of anyone that Jack looks at even when she’s resisting their relationship, but gets upset when he tried to establish any claim even though she knows his intentions.

Overall the story is okay and maybe could have been an okay romance novel, but the addition of trying to portray any sort of kink makes it extremely reckless. This is basically a guide on how to not being a relationship with someone interested in anything related to kink. That made it overall difficult to finish this one.

I'm gonna be honest and admit that I truly disliked the heroine in this book. It wasn't until the end that I finally took a small liking to her. I think the biggest reason I didn't like her was that she acted like she had a backbone but she really didn't. She couldn't seem to think for herself when it came to what she really liked and wanted. Yeah sure she stepped up and decided to do what she loved for a career but she couldn't stand up for what she wanted in a relationship. She was willing to have a boring, no sparks love life so that she come be "safe" and not feel guilty for wanting the things that she wanted. I understand wanting to be safe. But Jack kept treating her with the utmost respect, making sure that she was safe, taking things slow, and making sure that she had everything that she could need. Yet she STILL refused to give him everything that he wanted and desired, even the simplest of things. I'm glad she finally stepped up and stood up for what she deserved by the end. The author did a great job writing this story and I did read it all the way through, I just got so irritated with Sasha so much throughout this story. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*

CRINGE! Man oh man I was so uncomfortable with reading this and the bdsm had nothing to do with it. The premise was insanely unrealistic and just had me rolling my eyes through it the book.

Parents caught her doing bdsm stuff when she was 16 with her boyfriend
They paid him to leave her and threatened him with jail time if he didn’t
They were both the same age
And now it’s 12 years later and her parents are still freaking out about them reuniting
It’s insane.

And then randomly she has this roommate that likes to cross dress in girl clothes and he’s a guy and her boyfriend is all mad about it. Wtf

And then she’s telling her parents she likes bdsm bondage and rope play. GIRL YOU ARE 28 STOPPPP. This is wayyyy TMI.

SHE JUST HANDED HER MUM A BOOK that is for families that are trying to understand alternative sexual practices
It’s none of their freaking business

Also for all this talk about rope play my god he only tied her up once and it wasn’t until legit the second to last chapter.

The writing was NOT GOOD! So weird the pov was third person but then would switch pov in the middle of the scene.

A tempestuous romance with shades of Shibari and Kinbaku

Jack and Sasha’s high school romance was destroyed by youthful indiscretion and close-minded prejudice, but it’s never too late for a second chance. Twelve years later, Jack is back in Chicago to prove he’s worthy of Sasha and to reclaim her heart. They’ve got all the cards stacked against them, however, because Sasha still hasn’t come to terms with what happened before, and she has no idea of the reasons why Jack left in the first place.

This story beautifully demonstrates the power of communication in a relationship, and how maturity can give a better perspective to what we think we believe. The detailed introduction of the use of rope play among experienced, consenting adults was sensitively and compassionately presented. Very well written, this book is a standout among kinky romances. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I've enjoyed other Kelly Jamieson stories so I was really excited to try the Windy City Kink series. Unfortunately, Sweet Obsession, though not a bad read, didn't have quite the appeal as I expected. It took about a quarter of the way in before I could really find some sort of connection with the characters and story. And even then, I struggled with Sasha and Jack. The spark seemed to really be there between the two of them, but the appeal was somewhat awkward. I wish I could pinpoint exactly, but I can't.

I stuck with the story and while it did get better, I didn't come away with that love for second-chance stories that I do with most in this genre. The writing itself wasn't bad, but it took a serious commitment on my part to make it to the end.

I still may try out the next installment because of the different characters. One thing I've learned as a reader, you're not going to like every single character and that's okay.

I liked this book and felt like the characters really connected. I understood why Sasha was upset at the beginning and didn't want to be near Jack. I wish the reason why he left twelve years prior wss revealed a little early, but understand that she revealed when she did add a way to introduce a certain character.
I wish that there was a little more self awareness/acceptance earlier in the book. I was glad that the dad reacted the way he did. I really hope wish that there was more of a conclusion with Kevin and Emma, whether she accepted him (secret that and all), if he told her it not, or if he told her and she was done. I also would have liked to see Jack apologize to Kevin and Emma for his reaction and actions.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the rest of the series.

A great read, HEA

This is book 1 in a series. Each book can be read separately. Has an HEA ending, wish the book was longer since I didn't want it to end.
Overview. Sasha and Jack were high school sweethearts, until her parents found them having sexy. Her parents pushed Jack away and pushed Sasha to believe that everything they were doing was wrong. But 12 years later, Sasha shows up at a new clients house to do a rooftop garden. The owner steps out and Sasha freaks out when she see Jack again. All her feeling come back too and scare her. Jack fights to win her back and prove to her that they are soulmate and what they were doing as kids wasn't wrong. But will her parents except Jack back with their daughter? Will love help them build a new bond that's strong than before?

Sweet Obsession is an amazing second chance read. Sasha is strong and trying to get her business back on track. Jack is back to prove that what he and Sasha had as teenagers hasn't changed. I love his stalking ways. Sasha doesn't trust Jack since he up and left without a word. But once they start spending time together and slowly exploring their world of kink you can tell that they are meant to be. The sparks between Sasha and Jack are so hot. Even with Sasha's struggle you feel for her. I love how she finally takes a stand with her parents too. This is an amazing start to what is to be a fabulous series. I can't wait for more and Kevin lets not forget him. I can't wait to find out more about him.

The spice in scenes was great but there was an unfortunate amount of kink shame from both main characters. Eventually things work towards a HEA but I didn’t enjoy the hypocrisy and self shaming.

Interesting Read.

Jack and Sasha’s was quite interesting for me. However, I felt the book kept lingering a bit too long on the steps it took to get them actually together. And I was fair.y disappointed with the lack of actual “kink” there was in the book. In my opinion, if the author puts it in the title then it needs to be a dominant part of the story. Overall, on a good note the characters were fairly well developed and the storyline kept my interest. But the book tended to drag on repeating the same statement over and over again which reduced the energy level and became monotonous at times.

I really enjoyed this second chance BDSM romance. The painful history shared by these characters made for an emotion filled read. I loved the attraction, chemistry and connection between Sasha and Jack and I loved how sure Jack was about how he felt about Sasha, what he wanted and who he was as a person. I liked Sasha and could feel for her. Having to deal with her disapproving parents opinions, what they made her go through and her struggle to come to grips with her desires and needs was very moving. A terrific read. I am voluntarily posting an honest review.

This book is awful, I got it for a blind date with a book and I seriously have tried so hard to read it. I made it to page 200 and had to put it down because I can't read "little puff of curls" one more time. The emphasis on pubic hair in the book is strange. The smut is almost comical. I couldn't take the characters seriously. The story line was okay but not the best. Definitely not a read I'd recommend to anyone, I'm usually very generous with my rating but with this one I feel like 2 stars is generous.

Ugh! It dragged on and on. I normally really like this type of story however, I couldn't get over Sasha's wishy washy, back and forth, completely annoying character. You're a freaking adult Sasha! Make your own freaking decisions. This is a new author for me and it's probably the last. There were some great parts but, overall, completely disappointing and frustrating. (Listened to audiobook)

that book gave me a massive ick. main characters were just enraging. jack is a sad embodiment of toxic masculinity, and sasha is a naive, immature and indecisive bigot. the whole plot was mediocre at best, and surprisingly smut was even worse (it was a struggle to stay awake while reading that).

if you’re looking for a story with GOOD kinky threads, don’t waste your time on this book.

Such a detailed book. Great story and strong characters.

Don't miss reading it. Well put together and lots of history to edge your feelers from readingabout. Kevin was funny, Emma was sweet and history was unusual but without giving the story out read it!!!

Bondage books not usually my cup of tea but it was pretty light on that and a good story about people finding themselves and each other 12 years later.

Wow

I’m speechless. I loved every minute of this book and I can’t wait to finish this series. This book has opened my eyes to a lot of things.

Fascinating!

Enjoyed this book very much. A very sensitive story built around a potentially controversial subject. Seemed well researched as well as realistically presented.

A bit slow moving. I finished it, but was hard to keep myself reading. Interesting, but not awesome.

This is an interesting storyline, but it contains a lot of frank sex. Which I don't normally read.
