I really enjoyed the beginning of this book. However from about 50% of the way through and onwards, it felt pretty repetitive. The FMC's thoughts went from "omg I have to get away from Levi" to "I can't resist him and now we're fucking" and back and forth again multiple times. It felt like no progress was being made and I just got bored

Rose finds herself in an unimaginable situation when her unpleasant husband dies in a bizarre accident with a golf cart and inexplicably returns to life with ... changes. As she grapples with the eerie transformation (he's NICE now?!) of her husband, Rose is forced to confront the possibility that something far more sinister has taken hold of him.

Listen, this is a dark romance with a demon who falls in love with a human and it has some insanely hot spice. You'll have a dang good time and you won't regret it. This is an amazing dark romance and you NEED to read it.

BUT! Beka Westrup is so much more than what's on the surface. Westrup's writing captivates me with its ability to delve deep into the human psyche, exploring deeper themes. In this one, there are themes of grief, mortality, and the nature of love. Through her characters, she delves into profound questions about life and death, offering readers a thought-provoking journey that extends beyond the boundaries of traditional storytelling typically found in this genre. Beneath the surface, the novel offers much more than a thrilling supernatural romance. It serves as a meditation on the human experience, exploring the depths of grief and the lengths we will go to for the ones we love.

At its core, "Demons and Roses" is a tale of love and redemption, albeit with a dark and supernatural twist. The relationship between Rose and Levi is both unsettling and incredibly compelling. Westrup deftly navigates the complexities of their dynamic, creating a story that is as heart-wrenching as it is gripping. Listen, I'm trying to say that there are emotions here. So many emotions.

With its compelling characters, richly imagined world, and thought-provoking themes, it is a must-read for fans of dark romance, paranormal romance, and introspective storytelling alike. Beka Westrup once again proves herself to be a masterful storyteller.

Why isn't everyone as obsessed with her as I am? Please spread the word about this powerhouse author!!! Thanks to Beka for the copy. This review is based on a complimentary pre-released copy and it is voluntary.

3.5 🌟

This is a hard book for me to rate, because I think a lot of issues I may have had reading this come down to me issues, not book issues. The premise of the book gives you just a tidbit, and its understandable because you almost want to go in blind so you can discover things as Rose does. Rose's super rich husband treats her like a possession, and seems to be just an all around douche. Rose has a history of having men use her, and shes come to terms with it and uses them right back, even if she hates it (and them). One day while out on the golf course with her husband, he is involved in an accident and suddenly her prick husband becomes sweet and super sexy and decides to go by the name Levi.

Things are very confusing for Rose from here on out. Levi was great. The perfect mix of snarky, sweet and sexy. He had no issues showing his possessiveness and feelings for Rose.

While the book has a good dose of funny in it, especially the first part, but its pretty dark as well but the author gives quite a list of CW/TW in the beginning.

When Roses' rich prick of a husband is run over by a golf cart, she thinks she's free. Free of his nasty looks and comments, free of the show she has to put on for his employees, free at last. After all, she had no intention of staying with this man any longer than she needed to collect alimony.

But when Walter's twisted, bloody body re-animates and insists she call him Levi, her whole world shifts.

I loved the first half of this book and gobbled it up. Levi's strange ways and sexual encounters with Rose were page turners. Many trigger warnings here, but something about them didn't feel heavy.

The second half got dark,... like really dark. (Yes I know it's a dark romance) But it lost a little of the whimsy for me as

Book 1 of the Eternal Brides series, I am curious if we will follow these two more or get a new bride's tale.

For paranormal and dark romance lovers, this one is a perfect addition to the collection, and the books chapter pages are BEAUTIFUL!

✨ARC READ✨

This had me in a chokehold from start to finish (literally read in one sitting)
Such a strong heroine with sass, a suppressed need for vengeance, and the desire to help others and do the right thing no matter the stakes
An MMC with ZERO morals aside from an intense obsession for the woman he loves, he’ll do ANYTHING to win her heart (cannot forget about his blue hair and INTERESTING ANATOMY👀👀)
Contemporary meets fantasy dark romance, angsty, obsession, soul mates, and MORE!!
Spice was absolutely 12/10 could NOT get enough

3.5 stars rounded up because the first half of the book was almost a 5 star read for me. I just wasn't the hugest fan of some of the FMCs actions in the later half, but at the same time they mostly make sense for who she is as a character.

Either way I'm seriously looking forward to the next book. I really hope it is about Astra!!

This was very enjoyable it was the blurb that initially attracted me to this it just sounded so intriguing and this didn’t disappoint. It’s single POV and our protagonist is Rose a trophy wife in an unsatisfying marriage. She hates her husband and the feeling is mutual. Walter is wealthy and a workaholic. He occupies any free time with a string of younger women and Rose is rather apathetic regarding this fact. Their happy marriage is basically a mirage. Because of Rose’s poor background and life experiences, she’s rather jaded and mercenary and she chose her husband for reasons other than love.

After an accident with a golf cart, Rose is sure Walter is a gonna until that is he appears to recover before her very eyes. Convincing herself she was mistaken is easy especially with her husband now walking around alive and well. But Walter is changed beyond all recognition. He insists she call him Levi he’s suddenly interested and invested and can’t keep his hands off her. More confounding the feelings are mutual.

So this was an easy read it’s an incredibly spicy one and Rose and Levi have some delicious chemistry together. Levi is obsessed from day one he has a history with Rose something she is oblivious to. He’s a definite touch her and die possessive type of hero. He’s a glorious cinnamon role but only in regards to Rose to all else he’s deadly. Rose is such a flawed character she’s also an intriguing mix of morality and self-serving. I liked that she wasn’t perfect and kept it real.

This had such a fascinating take on the whole Angel Demon analogy honestly it was thought-provoking and extremely refreshing. This story has definite dark themes but the romance itself isn’t dark in fact Levi and Rose are adorable together. It was well-written and managed to keep my attention. It’s my first experience with this author and I’d definitely read them again.

A soulful and spicy Dark Romance for lovers of the supernatural.

Beka writes heartfelt and perfectly imperfect characters that will tug at your heartstrings, make you laugh out loud (death by golfcart will never not be funny), and make you ponder love and life. I highly recommend this to lovers of he falls first romance, supernatrual/demon elements, and touch her and die vibes. This book was a bingable and spicy romp from start to finish!

Tysm, Beka, for the ARC. I have enjoyed all 3 books by you immensely! Xx

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this book!

This book was definitely not what I was expecting but it was so good!

The relationship of Rose and Levi was difficult to like at first, but once I understood who Levi really was, his actions and traits made way more sense and he became more enjoyable as a character overall.

I also really loved the feminist vibes this book was giving and how strong Rose is as a character.

I will definitely read more from this author!!

🎶 Are we in the clear yet?, are we in the clear yet?, are we in the clear yet?, in the clear yet, good 🎶

Rose Burroughs’s (h) life takes a bizarre turn when her wealthy, intolerable husband is run over by a golf cart and dies right before her eyes. But the shock doesn’t end there—he miraculously returns to life with black eyes instead of his usual blue. Suddenly, he’s showing a kindness and charm that were previously absent.

─── ・ 。゚☆: THOUGHTS*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

“Stop, Walter.” I place my hand over his where it grips my thigh, digging my nails into his flesh.

“I told you to call me Levi. I won’t remind you of that again.”

“Not nicely, anyway,” he adds.

The concept of the book is intriguing, but the execution felt a bit rushed. Right from chapter one, Rose’s husband is hit by a golf cart, resurrects, and suddenly starts behaving completely differently. Instead of exploring this drastic change in depth, Rose simply attributes it to a traumatic brain injury and doesn’t question why her once intolerable husband has transformed into a charming new person who wants to be called Levi. The lack of build-up here is noticeable. There’s no real exploration or suspense about why this change occurs, which makes it feel a bit jarring. The story dives straight into the strange situation without giving me a chance to digest or understand the transformation. Rose’s reaction to her husband's transformation is definitely intriguing but also a bit perplexing. After he’s hit by a golf cart, dies, and then miraculously comes back to life with a completely new personality, you’d expect Rose to have a lot more questions and emotional turmoil. Instead, she finds herself attracted to him again simply because he’s now sweet and charming. It’s understandable that she might be drawn to this new, kinder version of her husband, but the way she just accepts the situation as a result of his recovery feels a bit unrealistic. She starts calling him Levi, which seems like a strange choice given the dramatic circumstances. It’s odd that she doesn’t delve deeper into why he’s so different or why he’s requested a new name.

“You clearly sustained a concussion or something. I don’t think the doctors did enough for you.”

“You’re so concerned about my well-being today,” he says in a low, rough timber. “Are you feeling bad about what happened to me, Rosie Posie? Are you feeling guilty?”

Rose really should be considering that some supernatural force might be at play here. The transformation from her husband, who couldn’t stand her, to Levi, who’s charming, attentive, and into her, is just too dramatic to chalk up to the golf cart incident alone. It’s like, suddenly Levi is everything her husband wasn’t: loving, affectionate, and completely focused on her needs. That kind of shift is so extreme that it almost screams “supernatural intervention” rather than just being a side effect of a traumatic injury. The change is so profound that it’s hard to believe it’s just a matter of recovery or brain injury. Rose seems to accept this new, perfect version of her husband without much questioning, which is a bit surprising given how different Levi is from Walter.
“Say. My. Name.”

“Goodnight, Levi,” I breathe.

“Good girl. Now, go back to sleep before I forget my patience entirely.”

So, Rose begins to see her husband as having two distinct personas, which actually makes a lot of sense given the dramatic change. It’s not just that Walter became charming and attentive—Levi is an entirely different entity altogether, with his own deep-seated fascination with her. The fact that Levi is actually the prince of hell adds a whole new layer of intrigue . It’s wild to think that Rose’s husband has been replaced by someone with such a dark and supernatural background. Her view of him as two separate personas aligns perfectly with the reality that Levi isn’t just Walter with a new attitude, but a completely different being with his own motives and fascination.

The door is halfway shut when he pauses, and his gaze softens as he says, “Tell me you want me to come back.”

When I don’t respond right away, he continues in a whisper, “Please, Rosie, I need you to say it, or at least show it to me somehow. You don’t really want me to disappear, right? You want me to come back to you?”

His lips twitch up in the semblance of a smile, but he seems so indescribably sad as he mutters, “Then I’ll see you again as soon as I can.”

Rose pushing Levi away and telling him she didn’t love him, especially when he was so emotionally vulnerable, is definitely heartbreaking. Levi has shown a deep, almost obsessive fascination with her, is utterly devastated by her rejection. Seeing him cry and beg for her affection, while she’s resolute in her decision to banish him, really pulls at my heartstrings. For Levi, who’s not only adjusting to his new persona but also struggling with his own dark nature and feelings for Rose, this moment is a crushing blow. It’s one thing to deal with rejection, but when you’ve put yourself out there so completely, it’s even more intense. The sadness comes from seeing someone so deeply affected by love being completely shut out, especially when he’s been so vulnerable and open. Rose’s decision to reject him and assert that she doesn’t love him, despite his genuine emotional turmoil, highlights the stark contrast between their feelings Her decision to banish him is made in a moment of emotional upheaval, but it leads to immediate regret and a deep sense of loss. The fact that she misses his presence so quickly after sending him away shows just how profound their connection was. The real gut punch comes when, despite her regrets, Levi can't return to her. In the end, she ends up in the underworld with Levi, where they are bound together as mates.

─── ・ 。゚☆: OVERALL*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

The book definitely had its quirks and left a lot to be desired in terms of development. The premise was unique and intriguing, but the execution felt a bit rushed. It needed more build-up and a plot that made sense to fully explore its potential.

This is the first book in the Eternal Brides series, a set of paranormal romance interconnected standalones. This is a demon dark romance where the FMC married for money and her husband is killed by a golf cart (which is apparently of high interest). Tropes include touch her and die, morally gray characters and dream scenes. There are numerous on page spicy scenes and they are listed in the back of the book if you want a list.

The Lovely: This book sucked me in and I had to keep following the twists and turns. Some I saw coming, some I did not. I loved the plot concept behind the romance, especially as I got further and further in. There’s an interesting commentary on morality and good vs. evil underlying the characters and the plot. Everything ties together by the end and I liked how the story ended.

The Mundane: It did take until about the 1/3 mark before I was sucked in, at which point I was really engrossed. I think this was due to not feeling like the characters (mostly the FMC) were realistic. Or maybe she was just that apathetic. At the beginning it felt odd the FMc went back to work the day after her husband’s “incident” and while he was acting so weird. She even hypothesizes he could have a concussion or brain injury but leaves him at home. I think this is a reflection of struggling with the FMC in that she’s highly educated but frequently doesn’t see what’s right in front of her.

Rating: 4/5 Stars 4/5 Flames

Recommendation: Thank you Beka for providing this book for my review. All opinions are my own. Was this a fun and steamy break from a run of fae romances? Absolutely. I loved the MMC even if he did make some . . . questionable choices. I’m interested to see who the next book focuses on and how/where their story fits in, I do have a *hope* for who it might be.

Wow, I'm not sure where to start. I will say check your triggers warnings as there were some things that got me, and I dont usually have triggers, but some things were intense. Having said that, I couldn't put the book down, I couldn't go to bed untill I knew what happened. There were so many twists and turns, and I never knew what was going to happen next in the book. I love the MFC and the MMC characters. The whole story was so weird yet unique and intriguing to me, and I had to see how the author brought it all together. The ending was wrapped up in a nice neat bow for the readers.

Ok reading this book I didn’t realize how LITERAL the title is. Based on the description, I thought this was going to be a quirky paranormal romance where Rose’s husband died and then he came back to life but suddenly was just nice.
Instead this was a dark romance that was slightly unhinged.. And I LOVED it. Like Rose dear, when he asked you to call him by a completely different name, you really should have caught on LOL all my dark romance girlies, this one is for you!

Spice Details: Several Open Doors Scenes - Be sure to read the trigger warnings at the beginning (and check out The Spice List at the end after you finish if you need some extra spice in your day 😉)

Summary: Rose Burroughs always planned on marrying for money over love. Her husband needed a trophy wife. While it may not be happily ever after, Rose never planned on giving away her heart, so she's come to be comfortable with her farce of a marriage. A golf cart on a hill changes everything. Her prick of a husband is acting strange. With the oddest thing of all is that he seems to suddenly care about her. Did a near-death experience change her husband or has someone or more likely something taken his place?

My Thoughts: Whew... this book had so many layers. I could not put it down. It had such feminist vibes and the love between Rose and her friend Astra was a beautiful example of found family. Now, our heroine, Rose. I LOVED HER!! She knew what she wanted and did not apologize for it, and she had a heart of gold. Her compassion for others and her friends had me rooting for an HEA for her. And Levi... that man 😉 had me weak in the knees, needing to fan myself, and laughing out loud with tears in my eyes. I could not help but fall for him. This book also sparked two of my new favorite nicknames: little snake and menace. Absolutely loved when he used them.

A part that had me cackling 🤣
"I thought this would be more... terrifying."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, this looks like quite and elaborate torture room from the pictures on Google, does it not? The darkness and chemical soap and all of the wet whips."

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦

⮞ 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 ⮜
Rose - Loved her character. Is complex, with flaws and fears, and even tho she's a gold digger, which I've never read before in any book she was so much more behind all those layers and I loved getting to know her in the book and the reason behind of her actions. There were many soul touching moments with her, from her fears, to her grief to her life experiences. The more you read about her, the more you were learning about her.
Levi - He may be a demon, but hot damn if she doesn't have the words at him. It was creepy in the beginning when he made his appearance, because the mood was dark but also so exhilarating, I just loved his weirdness and the way he was around Rose. I felt he was the perfect match for her, because just like him she had her own darkness and they understood each other.

⮞ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝-𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 ⮜
The world-building other than the underworld wasn't the main focus. I did enjoy the details about the underworld, they played so nicely in front of my eyes, it made feel I am in the story in there with them, and for a fraction I kind of wanted to be there lol.

⮞ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝/𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 ⮜
Read the TWs before picking the book. It got some hard subjects from grief, to abuse to killing and some other stuff that may trigger people. I didn't got triggered by the things happening in the book but also I don't get easily triggered. I enjoyed everything that happened in the story, from the love story between Rose and Levi, to the scenes where spicy stuff were happening to the more darker scenes that were happening. I enjoyed the pace of the story, there were also quite a few funny moments, but also some more soul touching moments and so many beautiful quotes.

⮞ 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞/TW ⮜
Not clean romance. The book got a list of TWs so make sure to read it before anything else! The book got spice, and some really interesting things, like primal play? Who thought that would be hot lol, definitely may have unlocked some hidden kink lol.

You all know how much I love paranormal romance, and a dark one? Even better! What an amazing way to kick off my April.

When Rose’s husband Walter, a very wealthy prick, is run over by a golf cart and killed, but comes back to life, he’s not the same person. Where as before he just wanted a trophy wife, he actually cares for her now! Clearly something otherworldly is going on.

While I wasn’t expecting this to be as quirky as it is, it is perfectly unhinged. The characters are beautifully flawed and deliver all the emotions. I absolutely love Rose; she’s sassy, compassionate, and knows exactly what she wants. And Levi (the new Walter) is everything. He’s completely obsessed with Rose in the best way. But there is so much more to this story.

Westrup explores grief and love so profoundly in this twisted story. I was captivated from the very beginning. The battle between good and evil is prevalent throughout, and the spice is absolutely divine (check your trigger warnings). It was my first read by this author, but most definitely will not be my last.

Thank you Beka Westrup for this sensational ARC.

From the first page this one had me HOOKED. It is written super well, you become so fully immersed - I stayed up multiple nights until 3am reading! If you’re looking for a stand-alone that’s a dark fantasy romance - this is the oneeee. (Heed trigger warnings with this though.) It’s got a super fun plot, it’s slightly unhinged (but I was obsessed and ateee it up), it’s 🌶️🌶️🌶️😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨. You have a super badass, sassy, independent FMC Rose. Rose is married to a man, Walter, who pretty much views her as a trophy wife and that’s that. “Tragedy” strikes from a golfing accident and the husband is killed.. So we thought. In comes our MMC… Levi. A demon. Fully obsessed with Rose. I don’t want to say to much more because I want everyone to be absolutely as shook as I was. I’ll just say demon 🍆? 👀

Let me just say I was immediately hooked when I saw in the blurb that Rose’s husband was killed by a golf cart and just knew I wanted to apply for the ARC 😂

Demons and Roses is Book 1 of The Eternal Brides series by Beka and let me just tell you it did not disappoint!

Rose and her husband Walter do not get along at all and he is a downright d!ck. But one fateful day at the golf course changes their lives. She watched him die right in front of her eyes but miraculously he comes back to life and all of a sudden he is nice to her?

Walter’s associates start going missing and he will not leave Rose alone, catering to her every need and just an entire personality change to “Levi” 😏 She doesn’t know what to think of this man Levi that has seemed to replace her husband, she soon starts craving his touch but old wounds are hard to heal.

Levi however is possessive and will not let her go. When she learns the truth she does everything to try to get away but did she is make a mistake? Is it too late?

If you are a fan of he falls first, touch her and 💀, demons then you will love Demons and Roses!

Ahhhhhhhhhh!! Why is the end so cringy and rainbowy and pathetic. You’re telling me this demon who let his mate be married to a sex trafficking arsehole just so he could control her and return to her and then sacrificed over 100 people for her and killed her enemies is suddenly all “do whatever you think is best” like what….. he did all that only to leave and and let her be killed, then tell her she has a choice in whether she stays in hell or is reincarnated?

What happened to the demon who chased her and refused to let her leave him? The ending booooooooo! This demon became so lame fr.

“We’re supposed to kiss now? …. But we don’t have to if you don’t want to?”””” WHATTTTTTT? This coming from the demon who possessed her dead husband and seduced her for weeks and pretty much followed her round like a bad smells WHATTTTT? He’s so pathetic now.

Also; this book ends with them both being trapped in the hellmouth cage… that’s so boring. She was literally a millionaire child therapist and now she’s stuck with some suddenly loser-ish demon who’s now al about consent and seems like he’d be all “can I have a hug babe”

She even asks him “if you know I was your mate how could you leave me with Walter? He treat me like shit” and all the piss-demon says is “I know, how could I stay? I can’t break some pathetic frat boys demon deal to be with you? He’ll pay for it for centuries.” What good does that do Rose? God, this writing and plot ending has pissed me off to no end.

This demon is weak; can’t break some shitty deal that he admitted himself he only entertained because he was bored to save and be with his mate.
He let her be abused and mistreated for a decade because??? Reasons??? Until he decided to possess the body of her dead husband. Couldn’t he have killed her husband way sooner and possessed him then? PLOT HOLE.
He then goes at her 1000% intensity about being possessive and crazy about her but then dips as soon as she gets scared…. Okay. Fickle bitch.
Then he doesn’t even save her from being attacked by a human weapon after promising to always be with her, always keep her safe and protect her. He wasn’t even in the mortal realm when she was boinked.

Then she comes to hell and insists she wants to be with him(. God knows why) and he’s all “you don’t have to be with me.” “You don’t have to kiss me if you don’t want.” “We’re gonna live here in this sad ass, boring hell gate together forever now.”

What a fucking book. Worst book I’ve read all year; purely because I loved the plot in the first 50%, the premise is interesting as fuck. A demon possessing the fmc dead husband to seduce her? Amazing. Look what it ended the story like. I am tragically disappointed.

“WERE MATES BUT WE CAN BE JUST FRIENDS IF YOU PREFER?”

OMFG kill me now. This demon… it’s like a completely different bloke. Where’s the demon that seduced the fmc car wash drive through, killed all her exes and enemies; killed anyone who looked at her wrong; followed her everywhere and chased her through a graveyard with a knife sticking out his skull. Different bloke. Like he became a little bitch out of nowhere.

Came here because I saw an ARC review and I was sold.

There were a lot of things I really enjoyed about this book! The fmc was really relatable and had funny moments.

The spice is spicy in this one!!! Also it was way darker of a romance than I had expected going in.
