Following a catastrophic injury and treatment on an alien medical station, Henry Martinez finds himself re-assigned from the Human Navy to the trauma center he had been treated at a year earlier. Now, he must adjust to life's realities when living as the only human amongst millions of aliens. Along the way, he must navigate hostile aliens, a blossoming romance, the fickle politics of the galactic union, and the ghosts of his past.
I enjoyed this story and I'm glad I read it. The characters are likeable and interesting. The plot, for the most part, flows well. Two things stood out as serious flaws to me though.
Firstly, there are far too many grammar mistakes, occasional spelling mistakes and also errors in punctuation. I appreciate this book was originally posted online for free, and most people are able to brush past minor errors but, at least for me, it draws me out of the story and impacts on my enjoyment. I liked the story enough to continue regardless, which is not something i would normally do and speaks therefore of the sheer enjoyment I experienced from the plot.
The second flaw, which I believe I have seen other readers also highlight, is that a certain female character is initially teased as the primary romantic interest at the start of the book only to be sidelined for another love interest. This wouldn't be an issue if there were some closure for the first love interest who is presented as being particularly vulnerable and extremely likeable. However, ending the story with her plot thread unresolved robbed me of the catharsis I had hoped for.
If this book has been better edited, it would likely have been 5 stars. As it is, I can't justify more than four. Still worth checking out off you like alien romances.
Very interesting setting. I belive its part of zig Humand were space orks genre. I love the romance. Realistic drama. Though I do wonder like... so his girl doesn't know why exactly he went off the yet. Excited for more.
