Christina has waited her whole life to make it big. And now she's ready-to be the star of the Texas Twisters, on her way to becoming the first Junior Elite all-around champion at the American Invitational. The pressure is on, and there's no turning back. But practice takes a turn for the worse when Christina lands her vault routine with a sharp pain in her ankle; it's clear that she's been pushing herself a little too hard. A forced break from gymnastics is not what Christina had in mind with the biggest competition of her life coming up. Her whole world revolves around the gym, but now she's not sure what to focus on. Hanging out with the other Twisters-best friend Noelle, spunky Britt and caring Jessie-isn't the same when she's not totally part of the team. The only person who seems to understand is Mihai, Noelle's older brother. But boys are the last thing Christina should be thinking about if she wants to get back into peak condition, right? Olympic gold medalist Dominique Moceanu and Alicia Thompson present The Go-for-Gold Gymnasts, a fliptastic series full of heart, humor, and spirit! Follow the four girls as they navigate the world of competitive gymnastics, try to balance their passion with normal lives, and learn to believe in the power of friendship.
Dominique Helena Moceanu is an American author and retired American gymnast. She was a member of the gold-medal-winning United States women's gymnastics team (the "Magnificent Seven") at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Well that was inspirational Im a gymnast and reading something like this was great because I could/can relate to everything in this. This tells the story of Christina, a very talented Junior Elite gymnast who is graceful and VERY hardworking. Christina struggles with trying to mantain her gymnastics career, along with school, a cute boy named Mihai who may finally start to like her back, and her mom who pressures her. A golden opportunity has popped up for her and her teammates, but when she has a injury setting her back, it fills herself with doubt. Does she even want gold anymore?
This is told in Christina's POV and I fell in love with Christina because she basically equals my life (well except for the fact that she is basically rich). I also love her teammates (who each have a book in this series). She's sassy and determined which is aesome. Though her attitude was a little like, "Girl check yo self" at times, not bad at all
Mihai, the cute boy, is her teammates' brother, so OBVIOUSLY thats awkward and the author, a famous gymnast, captured him perfectly.
Christina and her mom's relationship really can be seen has a bit shaky and when they do fight, you can really see how gymnastics has affected them.
As a gymnast, this reflects exactly what a gymnast feels in her regular life and school life and social life. With an injury, your gymnastic life changes and you have to learn to cope with it. Social life is there, but you have to be careful of possible distractions, and of course school is like BLAAUGGHHH
The ending?
Overall, if you are a gymnast and/or love gymnastics or love great books, READ THIS #UnexpectedTwist #DominiqueMoceanu #4.5/5Stars #GoforGoldGymnast
The last of the four Go-for-Gold Gymnasts books provided a great lesson for every child. The moral of the story can be beneficially for athletes, scholars, or anything activity that requires focus and hardwork. No matter the age the lessons taught in all four of these books can help find a way to deal with problems in their lives. I would recommend these books for younger girls because there are great life lessons and incorporate an entertaining storyline.
This 4 book series co-authored by champion gymnast Dominique Moceanu is a well done and realistic modern intermediate level book series for young gymnastics enthusiasts. A realistic depiction of 4 elite junior level gymnasts and their personal struggles while trying to reach their individual goals and unify as a team. I liked them, and suspect a lot of kids will too.
Yeah, I know, another kid's book. I swear, I'm also reading two books for adults at the same time, I just happened to finish this one first (took less than two hours to read). I was looking for Dominique Moceanu's autobiography and saw that she's the co-author on this series. Since I'm injured myself right now, I thought I'd give this book a try.
Despite being extremely simple and predictable, the book isn't terrible. I thought it gave some interesting insight into what life is like for elite-level gymnasts (the part about being coached by a publicist on how to answer questions from the press was eye-opening). I've also watched a bunch of gymnastics competitions on TV, so it was interesting to see a description of what it's like from the other side. And the rich-girl-with-absent-hardworking-father trope is less slightly less common than poor-but-close-knit-family trope. Anyway, not a bad use of an hour or so.
Reviewed by a 6th grader: Chiristina loves gymnastics, she lives it, she breathes it, but when practicing a routine, she hurts her Achilles tendon, she is forced to take a break. While on break she gets the chance to catch up with homework, and learns breaks are necessary.
This book is better for upper elementary students or middle school students how LOVE gymnastics.
Christina is determined to succeed for her gym Twistars Gymnastics but she hurts her foot on vault and has to take a break from elite sessions.. Insistent, Christina wants to compete but her coach is preventing her. Will Christina be able to prove her coach that she can compete? Unexpected twist is about faith, hard work, and perseverance.
Christina is determined to win and beat out all her teammates but as she lands a pass on the vault, she injures her foot and has to take a break from gymnastics. Frightened, Christina wants to compete but will she injure her foot even more?
I really liked this book because it was about gymnastics and I could understand and relate to all the skills she was doing and how nervous she was trying them.
