Now it has actually taken me years and years to become seriously enamoured and even remotely accepting of e-books and to actively consider them for both purchasing and pleasure reading. But in particular with regard to favourite classic series, and especially for those which I do have the tendency to constantly peruse and reread, my Kindle for iPad App has indeed and truly been a total and very much personally appreciated utter godsend. For now, I can easily and yes usually totally painlessly take for example Lucy Maud Montgomery's entire (and brilliant) Anne of Green Gables series along with me as one single e-book copy when I am out and about (or traveling) instead of having to lug the individual Anne of Green Gables novels I am often in constant process of rereading around (in my backpack, in my carry-on luggage etc. and very much convenient, for when I am now done with one of Montgomery's eight Anne novels, I can with this here e-book compilation, with Anne: The Green Gables Complete Collection, just immediately commence with the next instalment and so on and so on).

And therefore, while I have of course read and reviewed each and every novel of L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables series singly and separately as well, Anne: The Green Gables Complete Collection, which also includes aside from the eight main series novels the two short story collections of Chronicles of Avonlea and Further Chronicles of Avonlea (although sadly not The Blythes Are Quoted) has not only and of course naturally been a total and absolutely wonderful reading pleasure and delight, it has equally and to and for me importantly and essentially proven to be a wonderfully convenient way to keep reading and rereading one of my all-time favourite fiction series easily and without having to constantly be carrying the individual tomes on my person (and not to mention that the entire cost of downloading Anne: The Green Gables Complete Collection from Amazon.ca was in fact less than one dollar).

Alas, it is finally over now. I can't believe that I finished this novel collection. Almost 9 months spent on this novel, it was like taking a English class in high school. As a whole, I did not enjoy reading these 10-books in total, there were times which I felt like give up on reading them any longer, especially the last two merely related novels. Despite the author's beautiful words and reading, the stories are mostly just countryside love affairs or gossips. They are hardly interesting to a full grown young man like me. I strongly suggest any reader to ignore the last two novels. It gave me a great hack of pain to read them. Tedious is the word.

As for the first eight books which are focus on Anne and her life, I found they are worth-well reading, and got a feeling of seeing your child grown up. The first book is fantastic, there is no other novel girlish character could bring you as much sensation as this one. I literally fall love in her just after few chapters of reading. Young girls are such angels, especially Anne! Her personality cheered me up through one of my darkest times. After that I have always look things in a positive way, life is harsh, but with Anne's attitude inside me I can not find that sentence any more.

The following books are still centred on Anne as she grows older. However, she has changed or grown out of the Anne of Green Gables in my opinion. With each following book I read, the memory of the Anne I loved started to fade away. It was an un-pleasant feeling to grow up.

YES!!! I made it!!!
It took me months and months, but it was worth it. I love Anne both as a girl and as a wife and mother.
As for the other stories:
L. M. Montgomery clearly had a bone to pick with people who used emotional blackmail. Rather satisfying storylines ...

Anne of Green Gables

“If you’ll be a good girl you’ll always be happy, Anne.”

I enjoyed this book so much. It was so funny and heartfelt. I loved Anne. She is such an intriguing character. She made me laugh and cry. Her and Diana’s friendship was so wonderful to read. All her talk about kindred spirits, I could not help but love. I also really enjoyed her relationships with Marilla and Matthew. Especially hers and Matthews.

“Matthew and I are such kindred spirits I can read his thoughts without words at all.”

Anne is so smart, and such a well-written character. There was so many sides to her, and loved each one.
The rivalry between Anne and Gilbert was so ridiculous it was just hilarious. I loved how stubborn Anne is. How they both are. I like that romance isn’t the main plot in this story.

“She held her head very high, but she was conscious of an odd feeling of regret. She almost wished she had answered Gilbert differently.”

The only thing I found negative in this book, was the way the author decided to jump of over things. Like jumping several months, forward in time in one sentence. I felt it disturbed the story a bit. I simply felt I lost of things that happened I wanted to read. However, this is the only think I didn’t like.

I’m so glad I finally decided to read this. And I can’t wait to read the rest of the stories.

I love Anne. She's so happy all the time! It's such a pick me up book! I would give books #1-8 5 stars but the last 2 books are not relevant to the story and I got quite annoyed with them. Once u get into the story it ends and another begins...took me a while to get through the last 2 as I just wanted to give up!

I somehow missed these when I was young. When I saw this complete package for only a few dollars on Amazon, I jumped at it. What a delightful slice of rural Prince Edward Island in the time of long ago but not really that long ago. I thoroughly enjoyed Anne's stories.

This is a great series. I've never had the whole series in one place at one time until now. Looking forward to rereading it!

Books 1-3. Anne's story is still a favourite, although I definitely was more frustrated with her dalliance this time around. I'm glad to read them again, but also enjoyed looking at them with a fresh light. To be reminded of the subtle and not-so-subtle classists and racists sentiments of the time.

Books 4-6 were really slow for me. I just didn't enjoy them as much as the first three and I felt like Anne was a shadow of herself. She had so much energy and ambition in the first three--going to Redmond, wanting to be a writer--and it was as if now that she was engaged and then married that her only ambition was to be a mother. Her character just felt so flat and was a disappointment. Product of the time, I know, but definitely not what I was hoping for.

Books 7-8 were more engaging focusing on the children and their adventures. I felt like it was more akin to the first three books. I really enjoyed, too, how the 8th book (Rilla of Ingleside) was published in 1921 but took place during 1914-1918, making it super recent in terms of war literature. A perspective of Canadian daily life I hadn't had before. I enjoyed Rilla's growth and development over the course of the years, as much as there is sadness in thinking about the times.

Books 9-10 are a series of short stories. Some of them made me laugh out loud and some of them had me grinning ruefully. Overall I liked them.

Oh dear. I was SO looking forward to revisiting one of my childhood passions, the lovely Anne and her tales. I think I read the first 3 books and loved them, so was thrilled to find the whole PEI series in a single book. Well...... I reluctantly gave up after book 2, having spent 3 weeks promising myself I would read more. And every time, something else seemed more important (even cleaning!).

They are saccharine sweet, and much more repetitive than I remembered. Whilst some of the characters I loved still had a power to delight (Marilla especially), Anne and Diana just seemed too girlie and frivolous! I could imagine that young girls could still fall in love with Anne the dreamer. However, as a grown up, I wanted to skip over the purple passages of Anne's imagination and focus more on the relationships.

Oh well - back to my much loved 'Little Women', which never fails to cheer me up.

Well. I certainly got my money's worth. This is a great compilation from Amazon that cost me the princely sum of 99 cents. I thoroughly enjoyed reading some old favourites and enjoying the ones I hadn't read. I couldn't remember reading any of the books set in Anne's later years: Anne's House of Dreams, Anne of Ingleside, Rainbow Valley, and Rilla of Ingleside. These all felt like new stories to me. I adored Susan, Anne's beloved housekeeper, who features in all of them. Although I did have to forgive her intolerance towards cats. I thought Rilla of Ingleside was a well written perspective of World War 1, seen through 14 year old Rilla's eyes. This set of books also includes a number of short stories at the end. Those are a bit of a mixed bag, but I still read them all. I have so enjoyed L.M. Montgomery's writing that I'm now reading Emily of New Moon.

Based in Prince Edward Island, Canada in the early 1900s, this series follows the life, loves, and adventures of a bright, inquisitive, and imaginative red headed orphan, Anne (spelled with an "E"), who is adopted by an elderly couple by mistake. The writing is so lovely and you can't help but fall into Anne's world and forever see the beauty and possibilities in the world a bit through her eyes. The 1980s TV series Anne of Green Gables & Anne of Avonlea starring Megan Follows and Colleen Dewhurst is a brilliant companion to the books.

I love Anne of Green gables. I enjoyed the sequels. The only reasons I’m giving this 3*s is because of the short stories at the end. Some were enjoyable enough, some were poor. The last one was just quite racist to be honest and hard to read.

But the stories of Anne will always be a favourite, and I will read them to my children one day.

I would recommend this to anyone who has read Anne of Green Gables and fallen in love with Anne. This collection follows her as she leaves school, goes on to further studies, gets her first job and finally marries Gilbert.

A great classic story of Anne and orphan, aged 16 who comes to be a teacher at her old school in Avonlea and her struggles to win over the young and not so young students.

Great story for all aged readers.
