Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

This was an interesting volume to say the least. After the relatively tight focus on the Straw Hats in Egghead last volume, this one spread the focus around between the Straw Hats (who seem to be about to have another Enies Lobby situation on their hands), Blackbeard wiping out Traffy and the Heart Pirates (traces of what happened to Ace), Garp’s rescue of Koby (which has traces of Marineford’s arc), Buggy accidentally(?) inciting Cross Guild’s crews into going for the One Piece, Shanks in Elbaph warring with the Kidd pirates. More importantly we had a lot of reveals about what happened at the Reverie (something I’ve been waiting for for quite some). The result is disjointed….but man it was good stuff! Particularly great moments were Vivi’s dad finding out the truth of who actually is in charge of the World Government and the fallout of that and thus explaining the reasons for Sabo being framed and Vivi (plus Wapo). Likewise Garp and Koby taking on Blackbeard’s captains and actually doing some damage was epic albeit bittersweet considering how it ended (considering Oda Sensei’s love of death fakeouts I say reserve judgement until I see a body).
Other moments of note:
- I’m having traces of my distaste for Wano’s ensemble in that I felt nothing at the reveal that one of Vegapunk’s satellites has gone rogue. We barely got any time with them in question so the reveal kind of fell flat. - As I personally don’t care much for Kidd, I didn’t mind Shanks absolutely trashing him and Dorry & Brogy finishing off the crew too. It does make one wonder if this another sign that Shanks is a secret villain though or at least an impending rival of Luffy’s - A sign I’m almost all caught up? Seeing the illustration that Oda Sensei drew in honor of the debut of the Netflix adaptation. Its kind of weird/sad being this far into the series if I’m seeing that (at least I get to see Emily Rudd as Nami as drawn by Oda Sensei <3)
Odd/bittersweet volume but we’re continuing the upward momentum after Wano left me wanting. Will be a hard adjustment period not being able to knock out 3-4 volumes a month especially now that we’re in the Final Saga of the series.
Oda isn't kidding and he's not holding back in this current arc: The Final Saga.
I still can't believe that here we are at chapter 1088 and we're still world building, we're still learning about characters and still getting some very interesting revelations in this volume. Got a good gut punch once or twice, and we're ramping right up for something really big.
As much as I want Oda to keep pumping out some stellar content...I also never want it to end...as crazy as that sounds.
EGGHEAD ARC - PART 3 0. FIVE OUT OF FIVE OUT OF FIVE OUT OF FIVE OUT OF FIVE IM SHAKING GOOSEBUMPS FROTHING AT THE MOUTH
1. the constitution of sanji kingdom, article 1: those who scare nami-san will face the death penalty! the constitution of sanji kingdom, article 9: those who make nami-san scream will face raw heat strike!
2. the fight between kid and shanks was no fight. it was over before it began, and he even used roger's attack. i have goosebumps. the sheer dominance and superiority of shanks' skills
3. i cannot wait to find out who the man with the burn scar is, i wonder if we've seen him before. i also hope that teach never finds out about zou because i need the minks to just finally be left in peace
4. the way bepo would have rather died and have law survive shows tremendously how much of a connection they have, meanwhile that sniper dude literally TELEPORTED out of the way to not get hit by the boulder bepo threw. pirate crew born out of friendship vs pirate crew born out of the same interest, which reminds me a lot of the rocks pirate. it's insane to me that teach grew up in whitebeard's crew, and has also seen the comraderie of roger's crew, and decided against it
5. it's insanely hilarious to me that mihawk and crocodile just end up bullying and beating buggy, and this motherfucker STILL manages to keep his followers and inspire them
6. okay, i am beyond overwhelmed and need to process whatever the fuck happened now: firstly, the revolutionary army is momentarily trying to lay siege to marijoa, trying to take advantage of the fact that it's isolated on top of the red line. secondly, we also have the holy knights, of which the supreme commander is some fucktard, who used to be a champion on god valley (I NEED TO KNOW THE FIGHT OF GARP + ROGER VS ROCKS PIRATES) and who also doesn't flinch at the idea of executing another celestial dragon, so long it suits their agenda. thirdly, the entire nefeltari bloodline belongs to the people of D, which, as king cobra (REST IN PEACE AHHHHHHH) realised, means they belong to the countries that should join the revolution (also, which is probably why they were never seen as the celestial dragons). fourth, as far as i'm concerned, cp9 failed their mission at enies lobby and was destroyed by the straw hats - now why would they be 'upgraded' to cp0?
7. fujitora, my lion my bear
8. garp is a beast. i loved seeing more of his past, his friendship and comraderie then turned enmity with kuzan; the emotional turmoil of having his son, grandson and even pupil all choose paths that don't align with his sense of morals and lifestyle; the impact he's had on the navy around the globe as well as his adopted grandchild. i swear to god, if he dies, i will.....cry. i can't do anything else but i will cry my eyes out for him
9. egghead arc so far is combining a lot of storylines that are transpiring all over the world. oda is really not playing around about the consequences that followed the paramount war and the return of the straw hats: the reverie at marijoa, exposing the might that imu (who DA FUCKKKK) has at the fingertips to exert however they want, and the opposing side: the revolutionary army, clashing a lot. tied in also to that is the government, also at the whims of imu, storming and effectively trying to initiate a buster call on the government island egghead. then we have a powershift in the pirate world: essentially kid and law being put out of commission; buggy, mihawk and crocodile basically working as one force; blackbeard and kuzan being reason for garp's disappearance - i wonder if this specifically will lead the straw hats to blackbeard
This volume has a lot of different fragments of story going on, so it is harder to say something cohesive about it.
On Egghead Island, the identity of the mole is revealed, and we get to see the Seraphim in action. These are basically like next-generation Pacifista weapons, only instead of looking like Kuma they look like younger versions of other characters we know (including Boa Hancock, Jimbei, and Mihawk) but with the Lunarian wings, brown skin, and white hair of King. So they have the abilities of their original plus some extras and, like the Pacifistas, they have a complicated command structure that means they can end up switching sides. I’m not sure I care for the possible retcon of Hancock’s love-love beam working on anyone who just thinks she’s ADORABLE. Because then what would be up with the adult Hancock complaining about “evil thoughts,” or it being expected to work better if she’s naked? (Also, that’s our best “aroace Luffy” evidence in the text – not just Oda’s comments - damn it!). But sticking with the rule that it works on attraction would leave kid-version Seraphim Hancock only able to petrify pedos. So, for now, I’ll chalk this up to the way the artificial devil fruit powers sometimes “mutate” slightly (like Momo being a pink dragon instead of a blue one like Kaido).
We learn about SWORD, a secret organization of marines that have officially resigned so that they can do things without official orders, and so the navy can disavow them. Despite the presence of sweetie-pies like Koby among their ranks, this sounds like a TERRIBLE idea! It is nice to see Garp and Koby (who is powered up now, damn!) again, though. And given the lengths Garp is going to help his protégé, I definitely feel like this is a “the grandson I wish I had (instead of Luffy)” situation!
Speaking of power, I think this is the first time we really get to see Shanks let loose and OMG! Interesting to see he’s collected a bunch of obviously-weaker pirate crews he really seems to care about, too.
Back in World Government headquarters, not only is the “empty throne” not as empty as the council of rulers thinks, but the Elders are…well, let’s just say in the One Piece world, “shadow government” can be taken literally!
But Sabo and the revolutionaries have been getting the job done:
And, just for fun: Um…What are you reading, Sanji? https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpre... (The meticulous Oda accidentally leaving that second “o” unfinished TWICE? Not very likely!)["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Placeholder for the manga up to the current chapter 1130
I still think it’s funny and amazing how we all thought Egghead would be a fun little, almost filler-like arc, before we would finally venture on to Elbaph and get the real stuff going. Instead, it turned out to be the biggest lore drop, emotional gut punch and hypest piece of action you never thought of for an arc like this. And that’s why we love Oda. Even after 27 years, he still has an ace up his sleeve every arc and turns your expectations upside down.
What an absolutely exhilarating ride! So much of the lore is revealed, so much of the final obstacles of this grand saga unveiled, and the story truly coming to an end. Never would I have imagined, this arc would achieve such heights and end at such a high note. And the upcoming volume is gonna be wild.
Im not a fan of mangas, I feel like they don’t leave space for imagination as novels for example would. However, Odas Creation will forever be my comfort zone which is why I started to read it since volume 101. Also because I’d like to avoid spoilers :3
They all fights the Seraphims. Shaka knows where Dr. Vegapunk is. He found Dr. Vegapunk prisoned in a room with other Cipher Pol agents but he was shot dead. Three months ago, World Governmenr knows that Dr. Vegapunk investigated about the Void Century. They sent Cipher Pols to confirm it but they found nothing. But the Cipher Pol ships and agents never return from Egghead. The Gorosei assigned CP0 to carry on the assassination of Dr. Vegapunk mission and back up by Admiral Kizaru and Marines.

He then meet Blackbeard and his crews. Blackbeard proposed him to join Blackbeard Pirates.

At Kamabakka Queendom, Sabo managed to escape from Lulusia Kingdom and safely back to the island. He told Dragon and Iva about the truth that happened at Mariejois. In the operation, the Revolutionary Army managed to declare war with the Tenryuubito, saved Kuma, saved as many slaves as possible and destroyed Tenryuubito's food reserves. The Revolutionary Army managed to spark rebellion in 12 kingdoms and 8 from it are a success. They also sabotage a supply ships for the Tenryuubito. The real battle will start after the Tenryuubito mobilizes the God's Knights.
Back during the Reverie, Gorosei show King Cobra the empty throne. But, suddenly Great Imu appears and sit on the throne without hesitation. Nefertari House bring thr moniker of D. Gorosei killed King Cobra and Sabo appears to save him. Sabo failed to bring King Cobra from that room. King Wapol sees everything that happened in the room. At the same time, Princess Vivi was captured by CP0. King Wapol who is on the run scaredly run with Princess Vivi.
King Wapol and Princess Vivi escaped using Eigis' ship and later will be picked up by Morgan. Bonney escaped by Tajine Kingdom's ship and Sabo escaped by Lulusia Kingdom's ship. Great Imu orders the Gorosei to destroy Lulusia Kingdom. Gorosei was properly introduced: - St. Jay Garcia Saturn (Defense Science Warrior God) - St. Markus Mars (Environmental Warrior God) - St. Topman Warcury (Justice Warrior God) - St. Ethan Baron V. Nusjuro (Finance Warrior God) - St. Shepard Ju Peter (Agriculture Warrior God)
Iva realized that Great Imu bears a same name Saint Imu of House Nerona who was among the 20 monarchs that shaped the world 800 years ago. Eternal youth is exist so it is not impossible both of them is the same person. In Mariejois, Saint Donquixote Mjosgard who defend the fishmen was executed by the supreme commander of God's Knights, Saint Figarland Garling.
Back to Hachinosu, Garp is fighting Kuzan, his former protege. The other civilians and Marines have escaped but Pizarro is going to destroy the ship. Koby who inherited Garp's technique used Honesty Impact to destroy Pizarro's hand. They escaped without Garp. Garp was defeated by Blackbeard Pirates and reported missing in action.
It’s been a while since I wrote a review for a One Piece volume. I’ve actually missed it a little, not gonna lie. Anyway, it’s time to put my scattered thoughts from reading the chapters one by one, week after week in this masterpiece. Don’t worry, I have reread these chapters so my thoughts are mostly still fresh. However, this volume focuses on many different groups of characters so my notes are all over the place.
Let us start with our beloved Straw hat crew that’s just chilling on Egghead and trying to save old man Vegapunk from being killed by Rob Lucci. Anyway, Luffy and Zoro make a temporary alliance with Lucci and Kaku to defeat the seraphim and I just love the fact that Zoro didn’t put it together that they looked like King and then everyone is mad at him for it. It’s just such a Zoro thing to do. We also get Luffy calling Kaku Usopp and making him chase Zoro so that he wouldn’t get lost. Comedy gold. On the other hand, we have the rest of the crew where my boy Sanji is fighting with the power of love and uses a thing called Sanjituition when Nami screams and that’s just hilarious to me. Also one of the Vegapunks betrays them to the CP so that’s something I suppose.
Then we get to Shanks and Kid, and let me tell you, I am very worried right now. My man Shanks literally wiped off Kid’s entire crew in one blast. I really hope that Kid isn’t dead because I just love this menace of a man so much. But then I also like Shanks so everything is a bit conflicting.
We also get to glimpses of a fight between Law and Blackbeard, which again makes me worried because Law is so not on the same level as Blackbeard. I mean… Bepo literally ate one of Chopper’s drugs and saved Law, leaving the crew behind because he was so worried that Law might die. Do you see where my worries are coming from now?
There are also the revolutionaries. Sabo returns back to the others and tells them what happened at the Reverie so we get a lore dump. So my man Cobra meets the 5 elders and we learn that queen Lily of Arabasta had a D. in her name which is cool because that means Vivi is a D. as well. Oh and Lily was responsible for the poneglyphs to be scattered around the world and we meet the Imu person again. I hate them. They killed Cobra and the world framed Sabo for it which is just unforgivable. Umm also the former members of CP9 kidnap Vivi and I just want them to fall into a gutter and die at this point. But she’s fine now so that’s cool. Still, Imu wants her and now I’m scared. Oh and the Donquixote celestial dragon was killed by St. Garling. I don’t know why that’s important yet but I’m sure it will be important at some point. I almost forgot to mention that Charlos keeps being a dick and tries to kidnap Shirahoshi again and I hate him so much for it. Thankfully, Leo and Sai give him the punishment he deserves.
A major part of this volume is dedicated to SWORD and their mission to save Koby from Blackbeard. Garp absolutely shines in it with everyone being afraid of him. I mean… he gets stabbed in the freaking stomach and he keeps fighting like nothing happened, telling Koby and the others to leave him behind. I almost teared up when he said something along the lines of Koby being like a son to him (we all know it’s true). But then we learn that Kuzan was also his pupil (I still can’t get over the fact that this man is on Blackbeard’s crew now) which is really cool and I love how Garp was taking out his family frustrations on him. I also want to mention that I really like Hibari and Prince (and of course our boy Helmeppo) and there is also Koby smashing a giant arm into pieces. It just shows how far he has come (also Perona helps him at one point and I loved that).
And of course I saved the best for last… The Cross Guild. This is officially my favorite One Piece alliance. The crew literally built a ship that has a clown face at the front and I love how Buggy panics when he sees it. Rightfully so, because Crocodile and Mihawk torturing this man is becoming a reoccurring theme. Also I love Buggy rediscovering his dream of finding the One Piece, only for Mihawk and Crocodile making faces that suggest they don’t seem to like that.
Overall, this volume is packed with information and there are some things that I love about it (the Cross Guild especially). But it’s all so scattered and it’s more an info dump than a cohesive, emotional story that I like. For this, I’m giving it 4 stars but it’s still a great volume that deserves praise.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
king was part of vegapunk’s experiments. the seraphim have some aspects of lunarian in them. Shaka went to find Stella, but was shot.
luffy and lucci stayed back to fight seraphim kuma. zoro and kuka are finding mihawk.
CP5, 7, and 8 were dispatched to egghead after the world government got a tip that vegapunk was researching the void century.
york is a betrayer. she wants to be a celestial dragon and commanded the seraphim to kill everyone
kid was beaten off of elbaf thanks to the giants and shanks. is he dead or alive?
the marines went to save coby. aokiji is with Blackbeard??? HE’S BLACKBEARD’S 10TH CAPTAIN?????? Blackbeard found him after his fight with akainu.
law was defeated by teach and their ship is destroyed. bepo turned sulong without the moon.
vice admiral T-bone was killed but navy refused to elaborate on it.
buggy wants to get the one piece too. mihawk and crocodile doesn’t want.
sabo’s back with the revolutionary army. it seems that kuma was programmed to return to marijoise. the revolutionary army has 12 kingdoms willing to rebel with them, but only 8 succeeded. when he was at the reverie, he cut off a portion of the celestial dragons’ food supply.
during the reverie, king cobra asked the five elders about queen lili of house Nefertari, who didn’t make it back to alabasta after the celestial dragons and empty throne were established. king cobra asked them about the meaning of “d.” queen nefertari wrote a short letter about it that has been passed down generations in alabasta. great imu sat down on the empty throne in front of king cobra.
meanwhile, shirahoshi is being captured by the same disgusting celestial dragon. the revolutionary army came to get kuma.
imu told king cobra: “d.” Is the moniker of their greatest enemy. due to queen lili’s blunder 800 years ago, this problem still exists for the world government. the poneglyph were released to the world. queen lili’s name has “d.” sabo tried to save king cobra but cobra died in the end. meanwhile, warpol saw everything. vivi was locked up in a room by CP0, but wapol burst through and vivi went with him.
imu used vegapunk’s weapon “mother flaim” on lulusia. sabo was actually calling from a ship after he left lulusia. before they could react, a dark shadow was floating above the island. 800 years ago, there was a king named st. imu from the nerona family amongst the 20 creators of the world.
st. donquioxte mjosgard, the celestial dragon who protected shirahosi, was executed under the command of the supreme commander of the “holy knights”, st. figarland garling (former king of god valley)
garp took a stab for coby. ex-teacher and student, garp and aokiji, started fighting. when teach was going to kill his people, coby traded his captivity for theirs. under garp’s instructions, they rescued coby and left the island while he was still there.
now this is a lore drop volume. we get the traitor in egghead and then for the rest of the volume is following up every else. rip kid rip FOR REAL. buggy wants to get the one piece??? hell yeah. AND THEN ALL THE SABO STUFF AND GARP STUFF OH MY GODDDDD. my jaw was on the ground for so many of these reveals. we are getting closer to the answer but man does it still feel so far away. and then garp and koby <3 <3
