This is a basic book about cats, featuring cat facts, quotes, legends, a small bit on various breeds, and tips on adoption and care. As this is an older book, some of the information is of course now outdated (sometimes humorously so ... Anyone here still supplement their cat's diet with margarine?). Yet, a lot of the advice is still pretty sound today. It's a fun, quick read with some cute black-and-white pictures (including one of a surfing cat!). The book is good for kids or for adults who simply want to learn more about cats. Garfield only shows up in the form of comic strips or humorous illustrations, although that's on pretty much every page. I don't think he's ever mentioned in the main text, and overall this book isn't really a "real" Garfield book.

Loved it as I was a huge Garfield fan as a kid. This was the book book I ever read with references to Bast, the Egyptian goddess of cats.
