“A terrific writer. The scene with the sharks inside the aircraft was enough to cause nightmares and using an underwater heroine is admirable. Well done!”
—Clive Cussler

“Under Pressure, the aptly titled fourth underwater investigation by Kathy Brandt featuring British Virgin Islands detective Hannah Sampson, is a thrilling adventure with multiple suspense threads woven through a fast-paced plot.” —Mysterious Reviews

SWIMMING WITH THE DEAD

Summoned to the sun-drenched beaches of the British Virgin Islands, Hannah Sampson is fully prepared to face unknowable dangers beneath the crystal-clear waters of an idyllic paradise. But the possibility of murder runs deeper and darker than the sea itself. Her police commissioner's son—an expert diver and researcher—was found dead, pinned under the submerged wreckage of a cargo ship. Whatever the victim was looking for, he found . . .

DARK WATER DIVE

Homicide detective Hannah Sampson has traded the Colorado Rockies for the sunnier climes of the British Virgin Islands. But a murdered tourist whose marriage may not have been all smooth sailing—and colleagues eager to sink her career—have left Hannah navigating the stormy waters of betrayal, greed, and murder as cold as the deep blue sea. . . .

DANGEROUS DEPTHS

Trying to save an endangered species doesn't normally make one a target for extinction. But police diver Hannah Sampson has her doubts when she pulls her friend Elyse out of the sea, barely alive. Although the chief believes it was an accident, Hannah knows Elyse is a staunch environmentalist and never hesitated to harass anyone who threatened her beloved natural habitat. Hannah is sure this is no accident—but attempted murder. Now, she must find the would-be killer before he finishes the job . . .

UNDER PRESSURE

At 9:32 on a tropical morning, a puddle jumper takes off into the skies over Tortola. But at 9:39, not far from Detective Hannah Sampson's boat, it nose-dives into the water. Only moments later, Hannah and her partner are sixty feet below the surface, vying with reef sharks for any survivors.

Soon Hannah plunges into an investigation. Was one of the passengers a target? And who would want to kill a planeload of Caribbean tourists? Every lead is a dead end. And as Hannah copes with a nine-year-old survivor, a shady suspect, a shaky relationship—and an approaching hurricane—she wonders if she's gotten in too deep. . . .

Kathi Brandt's Underwater Investigation Series keeps one reading long past lights out. Hannah Sampson changes environments in the series as she works as an investigative diver for Denver's Police Department and then the police force in the BVI, British Virgin Islands.  Her near death experiences, new and old friendships, and her intense love of the environment make for some edge of your seat reading. Detrimental to the work, however, is the writer's need to use God's name as a swear word. Hannah appears, because of her irreverent language, as a hard women and that aspect of her character doesn't change much from the first book to the fourth. It leaves little for the reader to sympathize with. The writer's obvious knowledge of scuba diving takes her readers into the beauty of the underwater environment and the hazards that divers fac
