In a world racked by violence and conflict, James Redfield and Michael Murphy—leading cocreators of today's spiritual boom—present a message of hope and a vision for the future.
It is no accident, they argue, that the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries have witnessed a revolution in new human capacities. Daily we hear and read about supernormal athletic feats; clairvoyant perception; lives transformed by meditative practices; healing through prayer-and we ourselves experience these things.
The authors contend that thousands of years of human striving have delivered us to this very moment, in which each act of self-development is creating a new stage in planetary evolution—and the emergence of a human species possessed of vastly expanded potential.
James Redfield is the author of The Celestine Prophecy and The Tenth Insight. He writes widely on the topic of human spiritual awareness and is active in the worldwide effort to save our last remaining wilderness areas. James lives with his wife, Salle, and cat, Meredith, in Alabama and Arizona.
Swami Vivekananda, my and many others' ideal and the great Hindu monk, said in his great and historic address at the Chicago Parliament of religions that paths might be different but the destination is one like rivers, drains, reservoirs and any water source, if flooded, ultimately meet with the ocean.
In this book, the author gives us the background and foreground of our union with the divine, the divine we believe exists somewhere above, below or among us. The scientific theory of evolution has been going along the spiritual beliefs of formation of the universe and at some points, they have been juxtaposed and at other points, they have been progressing simultaneously. Hindu, Christian, Islamic, Jewish, Buddhist and all other faiths have been discussed in elementary details so that the readers comprehend the basic ideas. To all the readers of this book, I would also suggest reading Ananda Karunesh's A Thousand Seeds of Joy in which the author claims that he has written what the Goddesses have told him during the conversation... do read that and you will see the theories in this book being practically practised in the another... all the best!
This book read like a college course book at first, but for once I understood everything! This book describes how different religions and beliefs can prepare us for a higher level of spirituality. In LDS terms it mentions our pre-mortal existence, our purpose on earth and how to prepare for the world to come. The authors describe different ways to tune into our evironment on a spiritual level, and how to expand our mental and physical abilities. I found this book so fascinating. As I keep reading and learn through books, the more my testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is strengthened. I KNOW the plan of Salvation and I know why I am here on this earth. Reading this book has definitely been a source of enlightenment for me.
(PS. NOTHING takes the place of the Holy Bible or the Book of Mormon for me in terms of truth)
3.75 This novel is definitely for beginners, which isn't bad, but it covered a lot of information at a surface level and thus wasn't super impactful. I still enjoyed it and it has given me inspiration to further my studies, but I don't think it will in itself be something I think back on very often. I may reference the back occasionally though for further reading recommendations and for the few meditation examples it gives. I also appreciate that it doesn't appear to preach a certain religion over others.
I made it through the first bunch of chapters by a thread. I found only a couple of the chapters interesting and capable of holding my interest. I thought this might be a great read like the Celestine Prophecies but it wasn't. I'm sure some will like it but I didn't.
You know when you have read just too many books, when the new ones, or is it the really old ones you stumble across, start to repeat the same thing over and over again.
I did like this book, I had read the rest of the series so I thought, okay give it a try.
I also became quite the Theology researcher between 2014 and 2018. Did I learn anything new?
Yes, I learned that my beliefs were similar to that of a Native American. Good to know.
Would I recommend it? Yes, if you want a little piece of history to inspire you how to generate your own human potential.
Is it for everyone? Absolutely not, but certainly for a mass population that certainly believe there is a higher self, a holy ghost and beyond.
Did it have all the answers to my questions? No, but it did answer a lot. Especially having already read over two hundred books, it was a piece of consolidation.
I found this book when I was weeding out some books in my new library, it was one shortlisted for the bin, but after reading it, I reinstated it and it is now back on the library shelf. I feel like its saviour.
What do you think the universe is all about? If it is a question you often ponder over, I highly recommend you read this book, it is quite fascinating.
I was really only here for the list of practices and the resource collection. The former is really nothing all that new to me, which is fine. (I like knowing that, I guess.) The latter has some worthwhile recs for me. The style throughout the rest is breezy, kind of simplistic typical James Redfield really. It's a survey course, a reminder of what you oughta know.
The book certainly does not do justice to the momentum that it builds in the beginning. It merely lists and details what we already know... It had to be a little more explanatory or elongated.
You have to be sure of what you are writing. However, in this book, the author(s) have merely compiled what is already published. Good collection though but not authoritative.
How to Meditate-nya Lawrence LeShan.
I took this book because I was once taken by the Celestine Prophecy by the same author. Not the best writing work, it depends heavily on the message it tries to convey. At that time I was so curious about alternative views of the world.
However, this book was not impressive for me. The easiest indicator is that I don't remember a unique thing about it. He just wants to repeat his ideas from CP. Spread the word and increase awareness.. Hmm...
