One evening, Kenna and her husband are attacked on the street and her driver’s license is stolen. The next night, when the same thugs break into their house, they realize it wasn’t just a random mugging. The gang leader, Eli, then makes a shocking demand.
Kenna’s husband is kidnapped by the gang to make sure she cooperates—and they assure her that if she doesn’t, she’ll never see her husband alive again. But there’s no guarantee that things will go as planned—or that Eli will keep his word . . .
There’s a James Headley Chase feel to ‘The Boss’ by Alex Rose. It’s a ringside view of the working of gangs, ganglords, gangsters, and the dispensables. It is the story of a young, happy couple who, on a night of drunken fooling, get sucked into a vortex of crime that just doesn’t stop churning. The surprises keep coming upto the end.
This is the first book I have read from Alex Rose & won't be the last.I like how the characters come to life in the book & how it all ties together.I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys gangland thrillers.I will be looking out for any more from him in the future ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Intriguing, entertaining and a story line with lots of plot twists and turns that has you hooked, guessing and turning page after page! What may seem less likely than realistic throughout the course of the book has you also thinking could this actually be quite realistic?? Edge of your seat at some points and keeps you in your seat throughout as a great read! Will look for more from this author and it will be great to see what other types if storylines may be written !!
The Boss by Alex was an easy read and a great book for your day off or your holiday. If you love gangster books this book is for you. Its gritty, with lots of twists and turns throughout which made it a rollercoaster ride and once you start reading it, you will be hooked and find it hard to put it down. Which was great especially as Alex Rose is a new author for me to get my teeth into! I really enjoyed this book, the characters were excellent and fitted in well.
I loved this book and Highly recommend The Boss..........I hope Alex writes more books like this.
A very easy read about gangsters, although it was definitely far fetched and over the top! Kenna and Ray, husband and wife, get hooked into a murder plot by a gangster. It's a rollercoaster ride with a decent plot but completely unbelievable. The characterisation is fine but lacking in any development and very stereotyped. An easy holiday read sitting on a beach. Thanks to Bloodhound Books for my ARC.
Enjoyable, easy read, rollercoaster of a ride type of story. There was always something happening or about to happen, so much so that I had to carry on reading into the early hours. The characters were well descriptive and the storyline was far fetched but still an enjoyable read. The ending was rather abrupt though, unless there is to be a sequel ....?? I obtained this book from Bloodhound Books.
I was caught up in this gangland tale but much of it seemed too far fetched. A random couple off the street caught up in a major gang situation and she just happened to be perfect for a forthcoming situation? Once I got past this in my mind, I ran with the story and all its twists and turns. On the face of it a violent, terrifying crime thriller. But a bit too fabricated to be truly scary. #bloodhoundbooks #theboss
I enjoyed reading this suspenseful story. A story about a kidnapping by a gang and twists and turns you dont want to miss. This is a well written story that is full of action and hard to put down. An engaging story with characters that bring the story to life. They kept the story engaging and had me turning pages fast. I enjoyed watching the growth throughout as well. I really enjoyed this story and I highly recommend it.
Crime bosses and gangsters run the streets and literally pick Kenna and Ray off the street, threaten them and force them to be under their control because there is something Kenna has to do for them or they will kill her and Ray. This story is very dark, gritty, and suspenseful. I thank Bloodhound Books Arc Group for the opportunity to read and review this book.
When introduced to friend Vicky it said on page 55 & 59 that she had lost her right arm in an accident. Then when Archie went to warn her off, he was surprised she had no left arm. This was mentioned 3 times!! The plot towards the end was hard to believe & a disappointing ending. Sorry 🙄
This story started out with potential but unfortunately by around halfway through it began to feel as though the author had lost interest in the writing. The plot became downright ridiculous and the writing sloppy. And as for the ending…. not even worth mentioning. This is possibly the worst book I’ve ever read.
A bit of silly play acting brings Kenna and Ray through an unbelievable few weeks of fear and uncertainty and while I enjoyed reading this , there were parts that were OTT but in a way it added to the storyline .
I really enjoyed this. The whole story revolves around criminal gangs and a couple who unexpectedly get mixed up in it. Easy to read and reminded me of some very well known US best selling crime writers. The characters were well developed and the plot exciting.
Absolutely loved this. Kept me intrigued from the start & had finished it in two days. Nice sized chapters so easy to put down. Although some say it’s over the top - maybe it is but the characters & storyline were brilliant & I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in this plot. Easily 10/10 from me
I think The Boss is a little like a thriller version of a Mills and Boon romance, a nice easy quick read with a good storyline that is maybe lacking in detail. Not a bad book but not a memorable one for me.
Great book with twists and turns, never now what’s going to happen next. Easy read with great storyline and characters. Don’t usually like gangland type books, but really enjoyed this. The ending was a bit abrupt…..does this mean a sequel I wonder.
Kenna and her husband Ray are drunk and having fun on their walk home from the pub. They walk through the red light district and Kenna has a bit of what she sees as a laugh with a few men who stop their cars for her. Everything changes when a car containing four men stops and their lives start to spiral out of control. Eli controls the area and the girls who work there and is not happy that Kenna scared away some prospective customers. He makes his feelings known in no uncertain terms and Ray takes the brunt of his anger from Eli’s three employees. Eli has Kenna’s driving licence and knows where they live - Kenna and Ray try to pretend they are not worried about this but soon come to realise that they should have been very worried. Eli has them in his clutches and definitely won’t let go. This book was fast paced and very easy to read. It was hard to put down and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it to others. Thanks to Bloodhound Books for my arc copy.
What started out as a dumb 'drunk joke' turns into a couple's worse nightmare. They are tormented even in their own home and forced to do things no normal person would. But who actually won this battle? I will leave that to you to decide. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this book,it certainly had plenty of twists which had me holding my breath,I shall be reading more from this author and I will definitely recommend this book to family and friends
I have read better thrillers than this one. I thought the plot a bit far fetched and could not really follow what the plot was about. I like a thriller to be a page turning cannot put down book, did not find that with this one. Some people might enjoy this book, but as a thriller it was not for me.
Sadly I'm disappointed it didn't grip me as I had expected.
I've read books from this genre lots before. For me. This book didn't grip me as much as much as I thought it would after reading the blurb. I do also have the next book by this author and will definitely give it a go.
I found this book to be ok it was an easy read. The characters were well developed. The chapters wasn't to long so you could leave it at the end of a chapter.
Has some brilliant twists and turns. Definitely keeps you thinking what next. Worth the read. Second book I've read by this author and I look forward to the next one.
