Every Teacher's Guide to Writing across the Curriculum

This book is an essential resource for all educators. To address declining literacy skills, every educator needs to become a teacher of writing. In every grade and subject, the writing process enables students to interpret complex ideas, cultivate their individual voices, and shape and share their learning.

As writing becomes more efficient with the aid of AI chatbots, there's an unparalleled opportunity for educators across all content areas to reimagine their approach to writing. In Shift Writing into the Classroom, UDL and blended learning experts Catlin R. Tucker and Katie Novak invite educators to focus on human connection, sitting alongside learners to understand their specific needs and provide individualized instruction and support across all grades and content areas. Tucker and Novak transform traditional writing workflows to provide students with meaningful opportunities in the classroom to work through the writing process, collaborate with peers, and produce original writing that addresses task, purpose, and audience creatively and authentically.

Ideal for schools and districts prioritizing the integration of literacy across the curriculum, this book offers practical guidance, strategies, and resources to elevate students' writing abilities in every subject.

I loved the Shift to Student Led and was excited to move writing to a more collaborative classroom experience. Tucker and Novak provide research-based discussions, strategies, AI critical thinking, and reflective questions to help my students and me make the move. I have been reading one book a summer since I started teaching 32 years ago and this one lit a spark!

I always huff and puff when it comes to teaching writing because I always get the same responses of huffing and puffing from my students, but this book has me shifting (pun intended) my attitude and given me a ton of ideas to change my perspective! I can’t wait to brainstorm, test out, and educate my fellow teachers on the wonders of this book this coming September. ♡

Just okay. If you are an experienced English teacher, nothing really special here. If you are a teacher in another content area or new to teaching, this can be helpful.

Catlin Tucker continues to give educators what we need, when we need it, with actual tools we can implement immediately. I’ll be rereading, referencing, and using tools from this work for the rest of the school year and over the summer as I prep for next year’s classes.

This is perfect for EVERY educator who teaches or assigns working in their class, not just English teachers.

Love the suggestions offered in this book. How can we take blended learning and UDL to shift our writing practices to be more student driven? How can we embrace AI in the classroom and use it as a tool in the writing process? Must read for intermediate and secondary teachers!

Lots of great tools and ideas here though there are a few chapters that I wish had more specific examples of classroom best practices.
