Dmitry Volkov

Remember my name.

I am dark, dangerous, and I get what I want.

And I want her. Victoria Harding.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. My life’s been set since I was a child. I have an image to uphold, and she doesn’t fit it, but that doesn’t stop me wanting to shape her so she does. And that’s the problem. Victoria fights me every step of the way, until she has no choice but to hand over control.

She forced her way into my life, and now, I’m never letting her leave.

Victoria Harding

You’ll want to forget my name.

I’m a liability, at least that’s what I’ve always been told.

I don’t quite know where I fit in the world, so I’m loud, crazy, and make rash decisions to hide all my insecurities. And that’s how I ended up on Dmitry’s radar. One bad decision snowball’s into his bed, or dungeon of doom, as I like to call it.

Dmitry takes me to places I never thought possible. His need for control excites me, and without meaning to, I’m fast becoming addicted.

I forced my way into his life, and now, I can’t live without him.#Whoisdmitry #DmitrysKrasota

Dmitry and Victoria

Both of these Mc’s were so immature . It’s like this book was written by teenagers. The H is the worst Dom character I’ve ever read. He is beta not alpha and is ruled by his father. His Daddy should have been the Dom! I hate books where the Hero is controlled and led around on a chain by dear old Dad. The fmc comes across as an immature drunk stalker slut. Supposedly the H is the future leader of the Bratva—- I’m not buying it. His sub Vivian and his Daddy control him. Also what’s with having the ow Vivian and fmc Victoria having such similar names—- confusing. Vivian the ow is always getting whipped bloody by Dimitri because he’s thinking about Victoria… oops… yet he is constantly telling us how much in control he is of his dominant nature. I’m calling bullshit Dimitry! You’re just like a teenage boy high on whipping… one word for this book—- juvenile

I hate the characters. So stupid. Literally gave up. Could not deal with the stupidity and anymore and not a fan of other woman drama either.

Written well for what I read

I love this Author (Nicola), however this is the first book I could not finish. Please know this is a ME problem and not hers by all means. I don't mind a spanking but for what I did read it's all about the BD$M world pretty much and that's not my cup of tea.

I WANT IT KNOWN I did ask if that was all the book was about before I read anything and I was told no, however I'm sorry to say that is exactly what it's about. Oh also the book has self harm in it akso.

TW: self harm, toxic relationships

I dnf this one. I got 25% of the way through but after the self harm scene I got the vibe of “self harm via other person” and that’s terrifying and unhealthy, he would absolutely be taking advantage of her. I have my own scars and this is one of the biggest things I have to watch out for when I’m seeking out a partner.

I loved the style, the plot was moving really slow. I’m sad, I had high hopes for this book but I had to stop reading it for my mental health. I’m going to look into the author’s books to see if they have anything that wouldn’t trigger me. I gave it three stars because it was going pretty well but I don’t think I gave it enough of a chance to give it a one star

I loved Tori such a strong FMC and so stubborn. It was just what made me love her. And the way she pushed Dimitrys buttons. I'm not normally into D/s relationship but this felt different. He wanted her submission but she wasn't willing to just give it. Tori needs Dimitry she just hates admitting she does. Dimitry wants Tori but hates that he does she doesn't belong in his world but that won't stop him from making her a part of it

I can't wait for book 2

I'm not a fan of this whole thing about FMC being so incredibly immature, acting like a two-year-old having a tantrum

⚠️ Triggers: Self-Harm, Mention of Pedophilia, Sexual Assault

I honestly didn’t expect this to be a BDSM-heavy story, but it absolutely was. That’s not really my preference, but since I love this author I decided to give it a shot.

We follow Dmitry and Victoria (Tori), who meet at his club when she’s a drunken mess and embarrasses herself after he shuts her down. Instead of brushing her off, Dmitry is intrigued by her defiance. As a “DOM” and heir to the Russian Bratva throne, he wants nothing more than to control her… only problem is, he can’t, because he’s stuck in an arranged marriage with Vivian (the OW).

That dynamic alone creates tension, but the execution fell flat for me. Dmitry is supposed to be the future Mafia King and a dominant force, but he spends most of the book letting his father and Vivian control him. The mafia/DOM presence he’s supposed to embody doesn’t really show until the very end when he finally puts his foot down.

On Tori’s side, she’s not much better. She comes across more like a reckless teenager than a grown woman. Her behavior is childish at times, like trashing Dmitry’s house in a fit of rage, and she constantly goes against him in ways that feel immature (breaking into his bar, making scenes in front of his men, daring him to shoot her). Add to that the toxic hold her “foster brother” Marcus has over her, and she just reads frustratingly weak. The explanation for their dynamic takes way too long to reveal, which made me lose patience with her excuses for him.

What didn’t work for me:

- The best friend, Phoebe, was grating.

- Dmitry’s sexual scenes with Vivian were dry and anticlimactic, especially since he’s been hyped as this beastly Dom.

- Tori and Dmitry’s first real intimate moment was shockingly underwhelming given their earlier chemistry.

- The fact that he calls both Tori and Vivian “my Ognyena Maria” stripped the term of any special meaning.

- Vivian and Victoria’s names were so similar that I kept mixing them up, why make the heroine and OW’s names so close?

The book ends on a cliffhanger, and I’ve heard book 2 also does, so I’ll be waiting until book 3 is released before continuing. Honestly, I feel like the story could’ve wrapped up in one book without dragging Marcus back into it.

Overall, it had potential but left me frustrated with both the main characters and their dynamics.

Debut novel for this duo together. The hype, the cover, the whole “Who is Dmitry?” Had me intrigued.

I’m going to start by saying I’m not a huge BDSM reader and when I do read it it usually all revolves around the relationship between a Dom and Sub and there’s only so much sex scenes you can read before it becomes tedious. However, there was a story behind Dancing With Distraction. The storyline was interesting, disturbed female character, evil brother, mafia king…it says it all. It’s never going to be rainbows and glitter. Approach with caution if you don’t like darker subjects, self harm, murder, a mafia battle for power. I like the story and how it progressed.
Moving onto the characters. I might be the exception here but I did not like Tori from the get go. I warmed to her in the end, but I still didn’t love her. She was too much and too immature for my liking. I did feel for her when her story unraveled, her past, her struggles, her deranged family, but that’s where it stopped.
Vivian, I wanted to slap and tell her to get some self respect. For a book to bring out that emotion in me then I give it kudos.
Dmitry, well he was dark, handsome, controlling, powerful, and took no prisoners. Did I love him? No, but I did like him. I did like how he stood up to his father and did the right thing in the end. Bravo!
All in all, an interesting book that kept me reading. At no point did I get fed up reading like I usually do with BDSM books. I will look forward to book 2, just to see where this story goes, because it is nowhere near finished.

🌶️: 3.5

Mafia romance. BDSM. OW drama. This is book 1 of 3 following Dmitry and Tori. The MMC owns a nightclub and that is how they meet. The MMC is a dominant, and so initially he is very drawn to the FMC and her defiance, as he wants to control her. He is engaged to the other woman in the story, it is an arranged marriage, he does not have any feelings for her, but she does cause quite a bit of drama in the book.

As the MMC starts to have stronger feelings for the FMC, he realizes he cannot marry the other woman, and somehow has to stand up against his father to end this arrangement. Which he does, but it definitely causes some problems. In the meantime, the FMC is dealing with some trauma from her past, and at some point things turn violent, and the MMC has to step in to help her and it’s at this point that the dynamic of their relationship really changes because now he wants to protect her and he realizes it’s because he loves her.

I liked the book. The writing is pretty basic. I’m starting to see some characteristics of the FMC that I’m not really a fan of, I’m finding some of the things that she’s doing to be annoying. But the other woman drama is good. This book is also pretty spicy and I expect that to continue as the series progresses.

Oh my freaking gosh!!! This was so dang good. These two authors did a fabulous job writing Dmitry and Tori’s story. This story is weaved with drama, seduction, lust, secrets, suspense, and some hot as heck smexy times. What starts out as an agreement turns into so much more between these two. I was completely hooked from the beginning and was practically sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. I am completely immersed in this world and absolutely love it. It is dark and oh so yummy good. There are some triggers that may be upsetting to some people, so be warned. This story is not filled with rainbows and unicorns. If you are wanting a light story, this is not for you, but if you love the dark, jump right on in and enjoy the ride. Buckle up and enjoy Dmitry and Tori. I can’t wait for Dancing with Delusion and sees what happened after that ending. I just love that we get more of these two.

The two authors have you turning the pages right from the start with Dmitri and Tori's(Victoria) story. While waiting in line at the nightclub, Tori fancies the hot guy who turns up going through the VIP entry. Unaware at the time, Dmitri was also the owner. She manages to get drunk and tries to hook Dmitri without success. She is very drunk, and he has her and her friend Phoebe thrown out of the club but makes sure they get home safe when Tori continues her drunken rant outside. So begins the dark romance with some BDSM. We find out more about Tori and why she is the way she is from trauma in her childhood. Will Tori ever get her happy ever after?
I received an arc for my voluntary honest review for NN Book Blog. If you love a dark BDSM with lots of drama thrown in, you will enjoy this book. This book may not be for everyone; there may be triggers for some people. Therefore, heed the author's warnings. I can't wait to see what Phoebe's story is in the next book.

I didn't think that I had triggers so I don't usually check this information before reading a book. What I found out with this book is that I don't prefer BDSM and this is central to this story. The H's Dom and the h's sub is what sparks their attraction to each other. The h initially comes across as a bit of an air head, acting impulsively with little to no consideration of consequences. She intentionally scratches the H's car with her stiletto heel the night that they meet at his bar. He is contracted to marry a Mafia princess to make an alliance between two families. His betrothed is the OW to the h. H offers the h time together but sets specific boundaries e.g., he can end it at anytime. She is a personal shopper at Harrods and initially can't think of what boundaries she needs except that he has to stay away from her home. This is to keep the H separate from her unhinged foster brother. The book is the first in a series so the story is to be continued.

Dmitry… dark, dangerous, delicious. The man is always so in control even his clothing is tailor made. Even when his control is taken away in choosing his own wife he turns that around by having complete control over her in his dungeon.
Victoria or Tori has never had any control in decisions, from disinterested parents to creepy step brother her life seems to follow someone else’s blueprint. She’s the opposite of Dmitry and maybe that’s the initial attraction for him
He loves control of his heart and Tori is not giving it back, once she realises she has it … takes a while.
I loved this book I just read it straight through, got nothing done that day.
I’m ready for book 2 please

Omg loved this, Tori and her friends go to nightclub where she sees Dmitry, she’s had too much to drink and starts to goad him not knowing who he is, he has business to attend to and part of that is a marriage contract, Tori can’t get him out of her head and borders on stalking him, he likes control and for some reason she amuses him, he likes her spirit but sees beyond that and wants to help fix, very unusual and out of character.

Tori has demons which only Dmitry can banish, only he can give her what she craves.

This is book one and honestly I cannot wait for book 2

Victoria- 1 night of hanging out with her friends and having wayyyy too many drinks she tries to get the attention of a man in V.I.P when he escorts her out of his club, she causes chaos. Scratching up his car with the heel of her stiletto, swearing she knows the owner when she clearly doesn't. 🙄 now Dmitry is intrigued. Why is this hellcat distracting him so much? He can't have distractions. That's how people get hurt, and mistakes happen. Yet, he can't seem to stay away from her like a mother a flame.

Great read!

This book was very good. The hot scenes between the two are written extremely well. The relationship grows between the couple who both have a very traumatic past. However its this pain that brings them closer. Victoria is his and Dimitri is hers and there's no in between from the moment they met. They are two strong personalities that come together and blow each others world wide open!

Definitely a distraction

What an incredible read.
Read it in a matter of hours!

This book had it all going on, a lot of link (which can sometimes be too much for me) but not this one. No, it had a great fast paced storyline that was gripping from the get go.

Brilliant co write and I'm eagerly waiting for the second book in this series.

If you enjoy a dominating hot bod and a read full of angst, then this book is for you.

Love this trilogy. The blurb said it was for fans of 50 Shades and 365 days; however, I thought it was so much better. The love story and the intrigue combined to make a very riveting; page-turning story that keep me engaged until the very end. Was extremely hard to wait for the next book to be live but it gave me a chance to re-read the first book all over again to get ready for the rest of the story. Highly recommend.
