"Simply a delight. I love this story!"—Matt Dinniman, author of Dungeon Crawler Carl
Books 1-3 in the hit Chrysalis Monster-Evolution LitRPG series are now available in this special bundle, filled with action, laughs, and army-building to the extreme!
Anthony has been reborn!
Placed into the remarkable game-like world of Pangera.
But something seems a little off... What's with these skills? Bite? Dig?
Wait....
He's been reborn as a WHAT?!!
Follow Anthony as he attempts to adjust to his new life as an ant in his new Dungeon home. He'll have to learn how to survive, level-up, and grow both himself and his bite-sized colony into a force to be reckoned with.
About this Series: Jump into a rebirth story that mixes LitRPG and GameLit Elements with Monster Evolution, Levels, Stats, Skills, Magic, Power Progression, Kingdom Building, Party Building, Army Building, evolution, a monster MC, gigantic enemies (compared to Ant at least), and plenty of humor fitting for such a ludicrous premise.
This monstrous compiling of the already individually massive first 3 books of this series was a fantastic (if long) time that was also great value for money as an audiobook. It being the first three combined was of great benefit to the first book and nearly a detriment to the latter two as I feel like the 1st book is by far the weakest of the three and suffers heavily from the classic trap of this genre of having the Protoganist Anthony be way too isolated for the majority, leading to most of the actual dialogue being the infrequent cutaways to the entirely seperate side plot of the humans or far more often just Anthony's own inner monologue, which whilst excellantly done and bolstered by Anthony's charmingly bizzare nature can't quite hold up the story alone, at least not for as long as it is forced to.
This feels like it really should dock these books some points and if this had been the first book alone it likely would have, but given this problem starts to be resolved within the first book and just keeps improving throughout subsequent books turning into a fairly fun and entertaining host of side characters, It would feel overly harsh to remove a whole star especially given the other strengths this series has going for it with the engaging progession/magic system, good use of running gags and The always excellant narration of the fantastic Jeff hayes with great supporting narration for (most of if you count anthony) the female cast being done by Annie Ellicott.
The story itself is a pretty unique tale of a young man dying early and being reborn in a fantasy world as a lost juvenile ant seperated from his colony, this starts the story out with a focus on survival and adaptation to a very different form and way of life, but eventually transitions into a more typical progression fantasy story of founding a new "king"dom whilst striving to become powerful enough to protect it, with a lovely layer of found (sort of) family sweetness that is always my weakness.
Overall it was a very fun and goofy set of books great for those who love the litrpg/progession fantasy genre but may be a bit iffy for newcomers to it, and whilst it does have a lot of good stuff for those people eventually, it may be hard to get there, especially with the slow pacing.
one of my favorite Litrpg. Very funny and original as it is very different from my other series I can't wait for the next book. I will list the other series I do like here so you have an idea what I like. But again, this is very different. Maybe my first mention is the most similar but then again not really. the series I mention is in no way ranked by the "number" in the list. Reborn as a demonic tree Primal Hunter Defiance of the fall Dungeon Crawler Carl Path of ascension
I don't like series in a middle age setting Introducing how to make your food by roasting meat is something completely new. (He who fights with monsters, and is introducing a "Barbie" (spelling) as a totally new concept. ) I also followed the"Shades first rule series " which I didn't manage to more than start Zealot 11th something, after being very disappointed by introducing an interesting element for basically abounding them for several books. ( also book 10 was MC basically only doing alchyand not much else. Except for being killed at the end and then he wasn't dead anyway (some f ed up deus ex machina) Now I see she will finish the series in a few books, but starting a new series with the same characters.... Do you really finish a series then? Or is it what some authors just calling a new book...
I even liked the series about Rizzkin, for a few books, where I eventually couldn't stomach the overuse of adjectives *. Anyway. if you seem to have partially same taste as me. This would be a cheap way to check out 3 books at price of one, as it is on Audible.
*("a beautiful sunset lighting up the sky in x y z colors mixed with some abc. it was a so amazing breathtaking experience everyone was just totally speechless and was just captured by the scenery" or "the mansion reeked of greed, consumption and ambition " (wtf is wrong with the 2 latter, mc is talking about being your best (ambition) and making money to use to build a resistance or something (consumption and part greed, remember he makes money from thief's and assassin's at this point...) or "The torturing, slavering, murderous Lord" (we already knew what he did... what a bad person!
Chrysalis: Books 1-3 Box Set by RinoZ is basically a litRPG goldmine, especially if you're on Kindle Unlimited. You snag three audiobooks for the price of one with whispersync, which is a sweet deal.
The story dives into that classic "reborn as a monster" trope, but it throws a curveball by keeping the protagonist, Anthony, as an ant throughout. No instant human transformation here; he's all about steadily mutating and evolving, which is clearly superior to the alternative.
Anthony's a riot as the main character. His humor and enthusiasm shine, though not everyone might dig his puns and antics. Honestly, you certainly have to question his sanity at times. Still, you gotta respect his dedication to his ant colony and his readiness to put his life on the line for them. Plus, his human insights add a neat strategic layer to the story.
The other characters, both human and monster, add spice to the mix. Humanity might not always look pretty in this tale, but it feels real. And the monsters? They're a colorful bunch, each with their own quirks and personalities; even if they are more simplistic than the humans.
The worldbuilding bits, like those in-world book excerpts and multiple points of view, really flesh things out. You get insights that the characters themselves might miss, making the whole experience richer.
Shoutout to narrators Jeff Hays and Annie Ellicott for their lively performances. Hays brings the energy, while Ellicott nails those female voices. And major props for the skip-ahead tips to dodge those tedious repeated stat sheets – a true lifesaver (book 3 appears to have dropped this feature).
In short, Chrysalis: Books 1-3 Box Set serves up a fun litRPG ride with quirky characters, immersive worldbuilding, and lively narration. A fun bubblegum read/listen. I’ll be nabbing the fourth book soon.
I picked this up on Audible cheap, but it was good and I may continue the series later. A human reincarnates as an ant on a Dungeon world. There he uses his intelligence to protect his Hive and gain increasing power. "Power" is essentially biomass, which he gets by eating defeated monsters. There's a side-plot that involves humans that are there to stop incursions, a military group called the Legion. The story hasn't gone far enough for them to meet. But Anthony has befriended a group of humans who his hive protects, to a degree. Anyway, his human ancestry prevents him from letting his hive kill them. It's interesting. The story is slow enough you can listen to it as background noise while you do other things, but is still quite antertaining.
Never thought I would like reading about ants but the book is amazing and gives life to a protagonist who finds meaning, power and friendship as a member of an ant colony.
It allows for individuality in a society that values the whole above the individual and a large part of the story is the MC showing them how to get there.
This was a fun series so far but I started by reading it, then bought the audio Book to go with it. That made it awesome. I had liked the MC before but after hearing the voice of them I was hooked
I don't usually read books based on progression games.
I found Chrysalis repetitive but entertaining.
It was recommended to me by an Ant enthusiast that assured me the Ant facts in it where correct.
I guess it is based on a single player type game so no party with multiple characters. Antony does gain a pet monster, but mistreats it quite a bit.
He also often declares that the colony is above all, but acts selfishly to advance his own stills.
There is allot of combat action with thought given to melee tactics, but not much thought to what type of skill or attack is more effective against a particular monster. There are time that it is clear that magical attacks are more effective as Antony continues to try and power bite through almost impenetrable hide.
I did enjoy it as a popcorn read.
Note that the book ends in the middle of a major event, so getting the 3 book bundle may be a good idea.
P.S.
I've finished the 3 book bundle, as the novels progress, Antony does take more and more care to advance the colony as a whole.
Magical attacks become more prominent and he also gains more companions.
