Beer and
They say opposites attract and Corner Pub owner Damon and shy artist Toby attest to that.
Toby’s happy with his predictable life, even if he does secretly wear a plug to the Corner Pub every Thursday night. But when Damon shows him the word of the sub/Dom lifestyle, his Thursday night plug-wearing suddenly seems tame.
Join these two men as they explore plugs, piercings and making more than art and ale in this new series by Sean Michael
Malting by Sean Michael
This is book one in the Beer and Clay series
Sometimes unpredictable is exactly what’s needed, but can Corner Pub owner Damon convince shy Thursday night regular Toby of that?
Damon loves his life—his bar, his employees and his beer. He especially loves Thursdays. That's when the mysterious little red-head dances into his bar, drinks two honey wheat brews, and flits right back out.
Toby's comfortable. He has a good job, great friends, and he gets paid to do what he loves—sculpt. His life is great, if a little predictable. And if he secretly wears a plug to Corner Pub every Thursday, well...that's nobody's business but his.
But when Toby meets Damon, his predictable little life flies right out the window. Damon shows him the big, wide world of the Dom/sub lifestyle, plugs and piercings, and teaches him that maybe, unpredictable is exactly what Toby needed all along.

About the Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organising his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and pursuing the kama sutra by channelling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago".
A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.
Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

Prior to reading: I have a feeling it is going to be sexy fluff but add a ginger to any book and I can be tempted. I'm so weak for red heads.
After reading: You'd think I'd know better by now? This is my tenth Sean Michael book and for some reason I can't quit him.
He writes some smutty shit and sometimes it works. It's like I'm a smut detective searching for the right story. Sadly, this was not one of them. Or should I say it is sort of a gem because I laughed so hard, at all the wrong reasons.
I cried.
I laughed so hard I cried.
Even driving today, thinking about this book I laughed and cried again because this story really should have been in the fantasy genre. Sadly it was contemporary but I swear the main characters were semen superheroes or penis sorcerers or erection wizards.
A thirty something ginger virgin visits a gay bar every Thursday for three years (Hmm...the every Thursday part reminded me of the premise of The 51st Thursday - better book, IMO) and by 3% the owner of the bar is discussing plugging the virgin's ass with butt plugs and invites him to his apartment for coffee and to talk.
The ginger (Toby) can only string a few words together and can't seem to finish his sentences but is coerced into going upstairs with Damon (the bar owner)and proceeds to lose his virginity (with no issues BTW and receives a plugging of his life). No build up or anything. Toby appears to still be confused, in awe and in ecstasy? Toby doesn't really know what to feel. He questions how to feel, himself, his reactions...he puts the simple in simpleminded.
I don't know if he was supposed to be slow on purpose or the author was trying to play up Toby's naivete because dur virgins dur don't know nothing.
I have quotes for days on all the silly crap Toby said but I'm only giving a slice of Damon and Toby:
"Ready for the plug, baby? Ready to feel it spreading you open so wide?"
"Uh-huh. I think so? Yes?"
*rolls eyes*
"You make me crazy. I can't...I can't think."
"Thinking is overrated, baby."
Which brings me to one of the many questions I have: If Toby doesn't seem to be aware of half the shit he does, why have him be in a relationship with a Dom? Doesn't that question the validity of his consent? Why am I questioning it? *shakes head* This is a book from the Sean Michael warped zone.
And what happens in this zone? Reality is obviously suspended because Toby and Damon can come multiple times in short periods with no breaks. They just are there to pump out jizz, enough to probably flood a river in Sean Michael warped zone. Hence why they are erection wizards, ready to pump and thrust their way into their own hearts. The story is also insta-love. The time period: a week which is like decades in the warped zone.
And I still read on with a smidgeon of hope that the story might sort of touch the realm of reality as it progressed.
But reality was kicked the hell out of here.
Well WTF am I reading for? What are words? *waves hands*
And then
My brain has been snatched and I lost two IQ points reading this book.
Let me Toby-speak for you:
Rice snatch purple.
Scissor swift sleep.
Heavy yodel car.
Bleep blorp bloop.
weuk;fgwtpui4rtui;dfhiweruilweruo wer.
2 STARS Why? I added the extra star for the laughs as unintentional they may have been.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This is what it is. I really hate that colloquialism, but it's so appropriate here. Needy holes were plugged and insta love was instant. Poor Toby can't complete a sentence but he's needy, so what can you do? I'm not proud, but I read through the series in one weekend, it was a butt plug-apalooza and sometimes a reader needs that too. Apparently Toby and I both have needs ;).
It was like one epically long sex scene where the boners never died and the spunk was on tap... *blink...blinkblinkblink*
and dude, OMG could you talk, just a little more during sex? I had trouble breathing through the sex scenes. Because they were so hot, you ask? Well, no. I mean, they were sort of hot, I guess, but I was distracted by the lack of air due to all the breathy (possibly my interpretation) stuttered, incomplete, incoherent talking, constant broken sentences through every second of the sex. I kept finding myself forgetting to breath because they never seemed to stop and inhale, they just. kept. talking. *gasps for air* I just..feel sort of stupider now than I did before I read this. *bangs head on table*
This was an incredibly well written story: TWO YEARS AGO when Mercy Celeste wrote The 51st ThursdayThe 51st Thursday.
Now I don't want to say plagiarism...but the coincidence of the guy Toby coming into a bar owned by a guy named Damon, every Thursday night for years, having two beers and leaving is incredibly like when Shelby aka Thursday came into Deacon's bar every Thursday night for a year. The difference is this author removed the hurricane and insert a butt plug.
This is too close to something that looks like really bad fan fiction but without the plot the original story had.
Lots of SEX. LOTS and LOTS of it. I haven't read about anyone coming that many times in a matter of a handful of pages within an hour or so of a story-timeline. WOW.
What's this about you ask? And where is YOUR energizer bunny boy-toy??
Toby comes into Damon's gay bar for three years, once a week on the exact same day. He never missed a day. Damon had his eyes on the ginger Toby ever since his first visit and watched him with hungry eyes for three years.
When one day, after three whole years, Damon decided to actually sit down next to the guy and talk to him, he doesn't hold back any longer! *laughs* He pretty much kisses the guy right away and offers him coffee and cake upstairs =D
I know, right? Sounds like both have ONE HELL OF a fucking SELF-CONTROL.
Once they are together though, they just CAN'T stop. Oh god this book is honestly a true fuck-fest .. if you enjoy men coming five times in a row or more, the play of plugs and lots of them you are in for a treat. Seriously, they just never stopped.
While I enjoy a good deal of sex and just sex, this was way too much for me to not have gotten boring eventually. It really started to bore me after a while :(
I read bits and bits while I had company, basically reading and listening to my friends chatter. So really it was kind of a good side-entertainment for me, but nothing I enjoy to put all my focus on, sadly. Most had to do with the MCs, mainly Toby. Toby is slow, and shy, and thinks having sex, gay sex, especially with toys is something terribly wrong. But really he is such a size queen :) I'm not judging him, it just isn't the kinda guy I enjoy reading about the most.
I did rather enjoy Damon though. He is big and bossy and intimidating yet super sweet and mushy. They go well together and while I admire Sean Micheal's family oriented novels a lot, I think I will stay away from his dirty shorties :(
Seeing as this is already the third, that didn't really work for me … *sniff*
I received a free copy of this book at RT16. I received the second book as well, but I'm not interested enough in the characters to read it.
No plot until the very end of the book. The innocent, virginal hero goes to the other hero's apartment on page six and 99% of this book is sex with strange, stilted dialog between scenes. We never learn anything about either character; it's like they only exist for the purpose of the sex scenes. There are only three other characters: a roommate with a few lines and another couple that the heroes share a quick meal with.
Comfortable and predictable is what many people want out of life – or at least they think they do. It takes courage to take a step toward the edge of your comfort zone, and for most people that is an impossibility if left to their own devices. What would be the point? Toby in this story seems to be just such a man. And yet… he’s been coming to Damon’s bar for three years, predictable as clockwork, making Damon suspect Toby may be looking for something. Is it excitement? Is it a discovery of his sexuality in more than theory, the one available in books and on the Internet? As it turns out, Damon is more than happy to provide both.
Toby is a virgin. He only came out fairly recently (in his mind), and has no clue how to go about getting the experience he craves. His second problem is that he believes most of his cravings are dirty and not really meant to be fulfilled. When Damon finally takes the first step and talks to him, Toby is in shock. And I don’t think he recovers from it entirely, not within the week that follows, with one discovery after another. Toby is so endearingly clueless, and his job as a sculptor doesn’t exactly help him encounter other people. What a ride he is in for once Damon takes him under his wing!
Damon is settled in his life, but, different from Toby, he is also looking for excitement. Professionally, he has it made since his bar basically runs itself (with the help of a few trusted employees, of course). Personally, though, he is still looking for the one man who can keep his interest. After finally talking to Toby, the enigmatic Thursday-only regular, Damon realizes the man is made for him. The perfect sub to Damon’s very loving and playful Dom, the two set off on a journey of discovery that plays mostly behind closed doors.
If you like lots and lots and lots of sex in your stories and can easily do without a plot, if you enjoy a more experienced man showing the “blushing virgin” the ropes – in the form of plugs and other toys, and if you’re looking for a light, hot, and fun read that tickles your kinky side, then you will probably like this novella.
NOTE: This book was provided by Totally Bound Publishing for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.
Okay, personally, this story is for a trash. 99% of the story describes sex scenes between Damon and Toby. And I was sick of it after the first sex scene, between them. I believe Sean Michael forgot to insert a serious plot into this story, because this was pure sex and nothing else. Okay, some scenes were hot, I admit, but damn, to many is just to many. Why spoil a reader with to many scenes. I was disappointed!!!
1)It just felt like some highschool boy pressuring someone into sex. There were times that it let up...but then it would start up again.
Feeling pressured to give in, isn't sexy.
The 2nd, I got over quickly. But really, who walks up to someone, they have never spoken to, and asks them if they have ever worn a plug? Just out of the blue. Ewwww!
The things that they were doing didn't bother me...it was that Toby didn't seem ready yet. He may have enjoyed it, but he shouldn't have been pressured into doing them.
I felt like Toby was being taken advantage of....not sexy.
Toby is a sculptor who has been coming to the same bar on Thursday for three years drinking the same thing. FINALLY Damon makes a move and poor "straight" Toby soon finds himself in bed and finds out he's a size queen who has a thing for plugs and spankings, right up Damon's alley. Someone tries to rob the bar which is scary enough, but he ends up in the apartment and Toby is shot. Toby believes it's someone after him, Damon believes it's just some crackpot homophobe who doesn't like his gay bar.
As usual, heavy on the sex and the use of various plugs of many sizes. I just keep thinking it can't be good for your body to wear a plug 24/7 and don't you have to go to the bathroom periodically? LOL Perhaps I'm far to practical for this fantasy to fly for me.
Really disappointed with this - too much in one week ... didn't buy that someone who took 3 years to try one fantasy is suddenly losing his virginity, getting pierced, plugged daily and spanked in a week !
Very similar to several other BDSM works by this author
Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.
Rating: 5/10
PROS: - I liked that the guys have been eyeing each other for 3 years before the story starts. The longstanding mutual attraction made it easier for me to accept how quickly the relationship moves once the guys get going. - Toby’s insecurity about his desires doesn’t just magically go away after a couple of nights with Damon. His doubts lessen, but he requires reassurance throughout the story, which felt realistic to me.
CONS: - (I suppose this is partly my fault, given my addiction to this author’s BDSM works, but…) This story reads like a regurgitation of several other Sean Michael BDSM stories I’ve read. Very few details about the characters’ mannerisms, speech, kinks, or even physical appearances are original. - Something rather dramatic and out of the ordinary occurs 85 percent of the way through the story, and it felt unnecessary to me, almost to the point of being ridiculous.
Overall comments: I’m not impressed with this one. It was an okay way to spend a couple of hours, but it didn’t grip me enough to make me want to re-read it.
2 rounded up to 2.5 as I didn't notice any spelling or grammar errors...I usually like Sean's work so this was a disappointment. IMO Malted would have been better served with more plot to go with all of the (mostly unrealistic) sex. Toby has been coming into Damon's bar for THREE years without saying anything (not sure how that happens BTW) Damon decides tonight is the night to speak up and within the hour inexperienced Toby is not only ready to stay the night, he is kinky as all get out. Don't get me wrong, I love happy kinky sex as much as the next girl but this strains the bonds of believability a little to far. I am actually very easy in that I have and will continue to forgive a LOT (and give high star count) for loveable or interesting characters *shrug* Toby and Damon just never got that interesting or loveable to me. They both have some almost moments though. All that being said I will definitely be buying the book 'Almost' that has an excerpt at the end of this one. The excerpt is that good and hits some major hot buttons of mine. I am already more interested in Hammer & Lane than I was in the other two. A couple of hot military alphas in love. Sign me up!
Hmmm... I dunno about this one... I didn't feel like Toby was mentally equipped to make decisions on his own... was there supposed to be something wrong with him? I understand being a near virgin and never having been with a man before, but... someone that naive or that lost when it comes to anything sexual at all? He needed constant reassuring that what he liked wasn't nasty or just fantasy and it wasn't even kinky stuff... it was pretty annoying, I can't say I would have been as patient as Damon was. He seemed to really like it, but I would have just been worried I was taking advantage of someone that didn't know what the heck they were getting into, or anything at all. He was just so mentally immature I didn't see the appeal. Some scenes were hot but it was like the whole thing was just multiple orgasms upon multiple orgasms... like an endless tap of hardons and semen lol that doesn't happen....Like, someone saying "Hey... come" and our bodies are like... okay! Then not 2 minutes later be ready to do it again... it just wasn't real to me... I dunno. I like Sean Michael and this isn't the first book I've read of his but I dunno... just didn't do it for me.
M/M Dom/sub romance which opens up with very little character development and jumps into sexy time like a porno so I'm not sure if I'm going to finish this one... If you're looking for only sex with plugs, unrealistic piercing (impossible to do what they do on the same day as getting pierced!) and no relationship building what so ever, then you will find it in this book. Bar owner, Damon picks up a regular Thursday client, Toby with some really brutally honest questions about some personal stuff. If Damon wasn't so good looking it would not have worked on the shy introverted Toby. I''m going to try to finish this one today, but it just didn't interest me much. I had to pick it up several times to force myself to finish this just to get it off my 'currently reading' shelf. I need actual plot and character development to enjoy a read so I had a tough time even giving it a 2 star. so it was more of 1.5 star read. 109 pages 2 stars
I have to say I rather enjoyed this book, it was seriously sexy and amusing too! Damon is a Dom and finds a new toy, called Toby.. he then goes on to educate the recently out of the closet Toby. It is mainly sex, but I found it quite hot, Damon knows his stuff and pleases Toby a lot. There could have been more characther development, especially Toby who couldn't finish a sentence?
If your looking for sexfest, with ever hard body parts you won't go wrong. If your looking for a strong storyline maybe miss it.
I'm tempted to read next book to see if Toby can talk proper once his got used to gay sex.
2.5 stars Toby has been going to Damon’s bar for three years: he always sits in the same corner, has two drinks and leaves without ever talking to anyone. Damon is intrigued by the red-haired man, and one night he decides to talk to him, and challenge him to do something different… Will Toby accept the challenge? There are two characters: Damon is experienced, Toby is a virgin. They meet at Damon’s pub and decide to have sex. And sex they have. A lot of sex. Basically they have sex and eat to recover. And sex again. Oh, the sex is hot. But that’s all there is to be found in this story.
Toby is a shy artist who goes into Damon's bar every Thursday for 3 years, drinks 2 beers, then leaves. Until one Thursday when Damon starts talking to him. Next thing ya know, Damon is taking Toby upstairs to his apartment & pressuring him into sex. For the first time ever! The rest of the book is Damon's dirty mouth & pretty much non-stop sex with shy, virginal Toby. Lot's of talking during the sex. Mostly Damon.
The endearments & the shy virgin trope got old very quickly.
Yes it was a sex-fest. Yes it had no plot. I had been reading emotionally hear tug stories, so I was ready for this. No redeaming social values just two guys, sex, plugs and piercing. Toby was a virgin but he did say he watched porn. My husband & I have owned small businesses so the most unbelievable part was that Damon could leave his business so easily. The other parts were just sex. Sometimes I need to read something stupid. (51st Thursday was better.)
2.5 stars, sex, sex and more sex. If I had to read "just come on my C--k! one more time. If you want to read nothing but sex with piercings.... then this is your book. I might have given 3 stars if the "love" word was used on both sides. I think the author forgot to tie that up.
