A thorough and personal experience of our state's seasons, weather, flora, fauna and more. One trusts Gilbert for his obvious familiarity with the region, and his intimate acquaintance with its places and aspects. I especially appreciated descriptions of Minnesota animal species, which were scientific, anecdotal, and also intimate. One gets the impression that Gilbert has truly made himself a part of the place, and he shares this in the book. While the narrative does not fly along completely smoothly, the interesting information and sincere feeling of the book are commendable. Gilbert is a worthy guide.
