Road Trip, Risk, and Revenge, Book 29 of Dune House Cozy Mystery series.
I liked this one! The thing I didn’t like was the corruption in the police department and people attempting to cover up crimes. Doing the right thing is what won in the end even though it meant possible prison time.
Sandy was the victim in this read. Suzie won a contest for a free skydiving lesson 🪂. She doesn’t remember entering the contest and the book never explains anything about how it was a setup to get Suzie to the town Well, it wasn’t a setup, but I feel that mentioning she didn’t remember entering the contest that it was an important point leading up to something. Moot point. Red herring. Whatever.
The skydiving… ticket? is in a town 6 hours from Suzie’s residence in Garber, so she rents an RV and she, Mary, and Pilot take off on their adventure. But the moment they all arrive to their destination, their instructor Sandy is wrapped in a parachute a short but secluded distance from her skydiving office. Dead.
The Chief of Police claims it’s an accident, but Suzie, Mary, and even the police Detective Corrine state it’s obvious that this was a homicide. The Chief brushes it off insisting these things can happen and it’s no use thinking it’s a murder.
So what do Suzie and Mary do? They begin asking questions of locals and then dig into who Sandy was. They’re determined to prove this wasn’t an accident, but at every other turn the Chief tells them to butt out because there’s nothing to investigate. “It was an accident!”
As a retired investigative journalist, Suzie will not let it go. She needs to get to the truth. They involve Corrine and get her to help them.
This book has crime, scandal, friendship, corruption, protection of loved ones, getting to the truth, and an adorable dog!
Next is Book 30, Publish date 07/30/24: “Fruit Smoothies and Felonies”.
While I’m waiting for Book 30 to be released in 23 days, I’m going to read A Return to Magic Cozy Mystery Book 5 by Lily Harper Hart. It is called, “There’s Something About Magic”. I have read the previous 4 books of this series, but it has been awhile. That’s ok because for the most part books that are part of a series tend to remind its readers what happened in previous books. It sums it all up. See ya there!
