The FBI has descended upon Knoxville, the Lean Dogs squarely in their crosshairs. Mercy’s drawn the ire of one agent in particular – Harlan Boyle – and though he has no idea why, he quickly learns that Boyle will stop at nothing to arrest him for the New Orleans murders he committed years ago. The club isn’t going to give Mercy up without a fight, though, and they’ll call upon all their allies and resources to keep their monster safe.
In Part Two of the four-part Dartmoor Book Ten, Mercy and Ava will do whatever it takes to keep their family safe. This is not a standalone, and must be read after Lord Have Mercy Part The Good Son.
“Fortunate Son” is the second of a four-part serial that will altogether compose Dartmoor Book X, Lord Have Mercy, a truly “monstrous” endeavor that calls upon the sweeping, Southern epic style of book one, Fearless. Filled with suspense, intrigue, deception, and populated by all the beloved characters of the Dartmoor series, Lord Have Mercy brings the gator-hunting, storytelling Cajun killer, and his devoted fillette, back to the forefront of the action.
I'm so happy that I didn't have to wait too long for the 2nd part. It was excellent as usual. I expect nothing less from Lauren Gilley and am never dissappointed. We're left with another humdinger of a cliffhanger. I've disliked or "hated" some characters in my years of reading but Agent Boyle tops the list. I've never wished bodily harm on anyone more than him. I almost feel guilty for rooting for Mercy because of what he's done and what he does but I've read this series from book one and I'm invested in these wonderful characters. My imagination is going wild with what will happen with next.
This is by far the best series ever. Mercy & Ava are my favorite book couple, and I love reading anything Lauren Gilley writes, but this book, oh man, I love it when the Lean Dogs are scheming and this has lots of scheming!
If you haven't read the Lean Dogs series you are missing out. Can't wait for Rising Son!!!
Spending time with The Lean Dogs NEVER gets old. Spending more time with Mercy and Ava is definitely a bonus . Lauren Gilley has created the most wonderful world in Knoxville and beyond with beloved characters that you can't help but love. I cannot wait for the culmination of this latest Mercy adventure in Part Three of Fortunate Son.
Holy shit!! Wow, this book and series is everything. I loved being back with these characters. This book was told from numerous POVs and there were so many twists and turns, I was turning the pages and devouring it as fast as I could. I loved so much about this book but I don’t want to give anything anyway. I can’t wait to see what happens next!! 🐊
I've never been so scared to read book before but wow this had me on tenterhooks all the way through,it was one yes thank God and the next chapter was heart pounding, the story was cleverly written and didn't know what was going to happen😲😲next book soon please
Wow, what a page turner!! Read it in one sitting and it kept me on the edge of the seat. Great cat & mouse scenes. Really great writing. Ends on another cliffhanger, but this series is so good, you don’t get too mad 🤣🤣😭😭🤣🤣
Lauren Gilley is a Goddess and I just adored everything about this book. All the stars! I love the characters. I love the setting. I love the writing. I just love this series. But mostly ? Ava and Mercy. Their relationship, general dynamic, and history is just beautiful. If you haven’t read any Dartmoor yet you’re missing out. And should start at book one : Fearless.
« His answering smile was the sort of thing an outsider might have called sinister. Its width, its sharp flash of teeth, the way his face took on the quality of a snarling dog. But Ava could only read the joy in it, the relief, the edge of desperation. They’d only been apart one night, but that was one too many. They met each other halfway, and though he’d limped down the front steps, there wasn’t a sign of weakness in his arms as he caught her around the waist and lifted her up, just as he would one of the kids. Ava slipped her arms around his neck, and could only kiss his mouth quickly, before she pressed her unsteady lips to his neck, and breathed in the scent of his faded cologne and fresh sweat; the chemical tang of whatever they washed the cell cot sheets with. He held her tight around the waist with one arm, and with his other hand gathered her hair into a fist, anchored it at her nape, a gentle hold. “Yeah,” he murmured, ribs pressing against hers as he inhaled deeply. “Hi, fillette.” She didn’t say “hi” back, the lump in her throat blocking the way, but she didn’t need to. He knew. »
Lord Have Mercy Part III : Rising Sun is coming soon !
Another exceptionally good book by Lauren Gilley. She writes stories with great characters and her stories have interesting and active storylines.
The Dartmoor series has been a strong series throughout, but these Mercy books are my favorites so far. This book in particular wove in many Dartmoor characters from past books, and it is lovely to have them all working together.
I am excited to see how this all turns out. I am sure Ms. Gilley will keep things interesting!
I honestly can't remember the last book I read that had me this invested. My hatred for Boyle, my love for Mercy...and to think we're only halfway through! And that cliffhanger...I knew it was coming, but I still wasn't prepared.
Lauren Gilley, you did it again! This installment was just as good as the fist one. As good as all the Lean Dog books. I'm already panting for the next. I cannot wait.
Re-read 6th - 7th September 2024 Ready for the fourth and final book.
Original review.
Holy shit it’s good but comes with a doozy of a cliffhanger.
I love being back in Knoxville and I particularly like the new guys Tenny, Reese and Grayson.
I’m not noted for my patience and I should have held off until all 4 parts were out. But all I saw was Mercy and the gang and all willpower left me. Let’s be honest we’re not talking about much anyway but it fled.
I loved this book. Let’s get that out there before the slight moaning.
My only complaint was the Dogs weren’t very proactive. As soon as Boyle showed up I thought they’d have Ratchet deep diving into his past. There’s obviously a link to Mercy. I thought they’d want to find it. Also (no spoilers) there’s an incident that should have been a huge deal but didn’t seem to be. Unless that’s in the next one of course. So I was a little disappointed they just kind of sat back just dealing with things as they occurred. Not enough to spoil this read in anyway let’s be clear about that.
The cliffhanger was huge….wow Hope I don’t have to wait long.
