NO i am not giving it 5 stars because Kei lost his virginity...
And not because we have different naked girls at the cover of each chapter now...
But because this is the most interesting battle yet and the most creative.
And because i am a sucker for any fighting that has anything to do with Buddha, here we get Buddha himself come to fight with a lot of mean freaky Buddhist dudes lol
its the best yet and i hope it gets only better as it should be.

Gantz is always entertaining. However, it's not always a homerun. I really dug volume 5 a lot. This volume feels unfinished. Well not unfinished but it's the start of the next hunt. Not nearly as good as the second half of the hunt. It's about to get fucked up. However, this is just the start of it and more of a setup for that. We also get to know the new players a little more here.

What I liked: Kei taking lead. Actually fucking shit up. Taking down giant monsters with ease. Starting to remind us of the 8th grader who was whooping ass, except without the dumb ass attitude with it. Also liked the fact the new guys are useful. Well least the sniper. I was wondering when a useful player would be showing up.

What I disliked: What the fuck was with the new chick just fucking Kei out of nowhere? He's like "I wanna fuck you" and the girl is like "Are you retarded?" then she sucks his dick? WUT? Also what the hell was with Kei's best buddy still not willing to kill? I get not wanting to but these aliens/monsters are here to FUCK US UP. Kill them you moron or you die...again.

I love this series but some volumes are more frustrating than others. This is one of those haha. But I will keep reading because it's NEVER boring!

Gantz 6

Finalmente manga.

So the Lara Croft look alike immediately consents to having sex with Kei, after the flimsiest of protests, within hours of first being pulled into the game. Really? This makes the first chapter seem like nothing but wish fulfillment for the author, and starts this volume off on the wrong foot.
The self-righteous, judgmental Buddhist is fascinatingly similar to a lot of Christians in the USA, including many I have known, and many I grew up with, operating with simple-minded certitude, and using threats of hell to manipulate behavior in others. This is a very different portrayal of Buddhism than is popular here in the West, where that religion is romanticized into near perfection. This then ties in to the Buddhist statues which become this volume's alien opponents, initially appearing as a much more credible threat than the previous sets of so-called aliens. But then in the actual battle, they are barely effective at all. there is one death by exploding head as a newbie character decides to go home instead of playing the game, which is de rigueur for this manga. The first two giant statues kill exactly one participant, the arrogant Buddhist of course, before being destroyed by the simple expedient of having Kei shoot them with the explosive gun provided by Gantz. This is especially amusing since Kato (I think) dramatically says "there's no way to beat this thing!" only moments before. Perhaps he should have tried using the gun before making such a declaration. At least the one human kill is pretty cool, i.e. a well-deserved squishing under the palm of the statue with a nice Splrrt.
The rest of the new recruits fight hand-to-hand with additional statue aliens, and none of them die, because along comes the smart sniper. So much for a credible threat. We've got a body count that barely registers compared to previous rounds. Sigh. The carnage that does happen is glorious rendered with loving detail, there just needs to be more, and so again this series is hovering right around a two and a half stars.

Volume 6: Chapter 59-70
Phase 1: Missions
Arc 3: Buddhist Temple Alien Mission

New mission started. They being teleported to Rateiin Temple to kill two big aliens. The aliens was a statue in front of the temple gate. After the two big aliens were killed, come another wave of buddhist-theme alien. They defeated the aliens as a team really give me a goosebump. The biggest alien appear with over 100-feet-Buddha-look alien that seem impossible to be killed.

Honestly, this is probably the best volume so far.
Great progression, great character development, awesome story and a very well crafted arc.

I can't wait for the next volume.

Okay so the annoying monk dying was so funny. Watching Kei take initiative and give others hops in his bravery is fun. Yet at the same time, we also see that his immaturity turns the bravery into overconfidence.
Kato represents the good in humanity and despite being strong he’s a sweet heart.
What’s with that Angelina Jolie tomb raider!?!
I stan the Giant Buddha. I love seeing how they think they’ve killed the aliens but more shit comes out after. 😂
Kei standing in proportion to the giant buddhas feet was stunning. It truly feels monumental and more epic than anything Hollywood has produced. Marvel, take notes.

This is a review of the entire series.

Synopsis: Gantz tells the story of a teenager named Kei Kurono, among others, who die but find themselves brought back in perfectly healthy bodies and forced to participate in a "game" where they must hunt down and kill aliens.

Review: I almost gave up on Gantz several times, but now that I've read it all the way to the end, I'm glad I stuck with it. The beginning is dragged down by repulsive and unlikable characters, a messily paced story, unnecessary sexualization and gratuitous violence without much substance. As it progresses, however, the character development becomes pretty incredible and the growing threat of the enemies feels truly well done. Once the real enemies are revealed, it's mind-blowing how the series had been secretly foreshadowing their arrival from the very beginning.

Although it takes a while, some really good characters are introduced later on in the series and they're the ones that made me want to read to the end. Some characters that were absolutely unbearable in the beginning became polar opposites of their original selves and even made me sympathize with them quite a bit. The protagonist Kei for example, I hated him with all my heart for the first third of the series, he became progressively more likable in the second third of the story and then he evolved into one of the most memorable, unlikely heroes I've ever seen in this storytelling medium throughout the final third. The last third of the series is unbelievably terrifying with some of the most gruesome and disgusting battle/survival scenes in the history of fiction. It's much more bearable and intense in the final third because this time the violence and horror is happening to people we actually care about instead of a bunch of unlikable nobodies.

The final third of the story is what made me feel so glad that I didn't give up on this series. It had me on the edge of my seat more times than I can recall. There are a ton of chapters but they're very short and full of action which makes the series a quick read despite having almost 400 chapters. So even though the first third of the story was kinda bad in my opinion, it doesn't last for long and the payoff that comes after it's over truly impressed me. It's a flawed, thrilling and horrifying action series that takes a while to kick off. When it finally kicks off, however, it kicks off extremely hard.

I think I figured out why I keep reading - there's just no end to the absurdities the author throws at his readers! It's so out there that I just can't help but be entertained by the ridiculousness of it. We finally get a second female, who's basically a pony-tailed copy of the first female, except that she's actually way, way more, err... accepting of Kurono. I think it's just meant to serve as some sort of emotional setup for Kurono? But anyway, the third mission is pretty irreverent, considering the aliens are basically the statues that you'd find in Buddhist temples.

The usual assortment of strangers show up, but there are greater numbers this time. The funny thing is that there's one guy (a newcomer no less) who is actually effective (as opposed to sheer luck and ambush shots) with the advanced weaponry that they've been given. I guess the kids are just not that smart? I mean, why wouldn't they take the equipment home and actually practice with them... but of course, that would spoil their sudden bouts of realisations of "I can do this!" - which... is actually quite fun to see (as is the sheer amount of gore).

I wonder if it will be tiresome to keep hearing them speak once and once again trying to convince everyone to survive, but this time it was so interesting. The priest's actions, though annoying, made much sense and people were sadly swayed. Every statue being the aliens they have to fight is also very cool, though probably direspectful. The action was fun so let's see how it goes.

Our protagonist lost his virginity in Chapter-59 titled 'The Sex' 😂. Very interesting game now, they have to battle two big buddhist aliens. After killing those two, several other small aliens arrive and also THERE IS THIS BIG BUDDHA STATUE that they need to face.

The action and the enemies where improved in strength compared to the previous volumes.

In this, the group with some newcomers continue to battle in the alternate reality. In this episode they do battle in a Buddhist temple. The story moves along very fast and the art work is defined with some emotional detail to it. It is adult manga and the first of it's king that I've read.

Kei and gang take on two huge aliens guarding a Buddhist temple.

I like that Kei has decided to go all in on using weapons to decimate the aliens. The bit about him having sex with one of the newly arrived group was beyond weak. So good parts and bad parts to this volume.
