I am a fan of Stephanie Harte’s previous novels, so I was excited to receive Double trouble the first book in the new series about twins Lily and Daisy. Lily and Daisy are identical twins but that’s where the similarities end. Lily is the reserved one and Daisy is the loud extrovert that always gets into trouble. Their father is always pushing them to get further into the music world, as he failed in his younger days. Both girls are beautiful singers. And will have a future but they are also blighted by their father as some of their earnings go towards the debt that their father owes. The girls get a job at the Eden club singing and straightway Daisy is smitten with the clubs Manager Mackenzie. But Mackenzie is not all that he seems. He has a side Hussle which involves drug trafficking that gets not only him in trouble but one of the twins gets kidnapped because of him but he also disappears. Where is Mackenzie and what has he done with Lily? This is good read and a great start to a new series. Not so much action in this storyline as previous but as It is only the first book it will probably develop in the next book. I felt although it tied up some lose ends it did end quite abruptly. 4 stars from me.
I thought from the premise of this book would be my kind of read. It is, And I think Double Trouble is written well and is a good, easy read. It didn't wow me or have me desperate to know more though. I struggled to like or be able to connect with all of the characters in the story which ultimately affected how much I enjoyed this read. I just felt I didn't really care about any of them, although I loathed some characters more than others. I liked the story being told through different characters and their perspectives and in my opinion for a gangland crime book it lacked the edginess and violence that I've grown accustomed to in this genre. The story has current themes of drug trafficking and people trafficking which are believeable to read but .... for me there was something missing - I'd have liked the plot line to have more tension, thrills and suspense - at times I found myself skimming pages as I'd lost interest in the story. The ending sets up the second book nicely and I'd probably want to read it to find out what happens to Daisy and Lily.
This is the first book I have read by Stephanie Harte and it won’t be the last. I really enjoyed this book and being introduced to Daisy and Lily.
Daisy and Lily Kennedy are identical twins. They are singers and are managed by their father Des. Des was in a band when he was younger but they didn’t make it so he is desperate for the girls to be a success. He drives them hard and takes the majority of their earnings. Daisy and Des constantly clash and Lily always tries to keep the peace.
The girls get a regular gig in a club called Eden and Daisy is very interested in Mackenzie the club manager. Daisy has no idea that Mackenzie and the owner Samson are involved in shipping and dealing drugs and that they are dangerous men. The girls end up being involved in stuff they never imagined and things become dangerous. I can’t wait to read the next instalment in Daisy and Lily’s lives.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advance copy of this book in the exchange for an honest review.
Being a big fan of Stephanie Harte's books, a new book in a new series was just what I was waiting for. Daisy and Lily are identical twins, but that's where the similarities end they are different in so many ways. They are driven by their dad Des to make it in the music industry, something he failed to do in his younger years, and when they get their change to perform at Edens nightclub things are going well but throw in a handsome manager and a rather sleazy owner things take a horrible turn for the worse. When one twin is kidnapped, the other soon realises that they need to find them no matter what they have to do. I found this a good read not as ruthless as some of her other books have been but I'm hoping that will change as the series continues. The ending was a bit abrupt but definitely leaves you on tenderhooks for the next book. Recommended. Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC.
A exciting start to a new Gangland thriller series. The Kennedy twins Daisy and Lily are thrown into a seedy club by their controlling father Des who hopes they will fulfill his dreams of hitting the big time. Something he failed himself but Daisy the wild child gets herself into some deep trouble and when Lily is kidnapped, Daisy is the one who needs to save her. The beginning of the book starts with a bang and continues to hold my attention. I was a little bit disappointed that it was not as violent and blood shed that I have come to expect from gangland thrillers but the mystery and my like of the twins kept me eagerly flying through. I really enjoyed the plot despite the lack of violence which I am hoping there will be a little more of in the next book. The suspense was and still is taunting me. It ends on a spectacular cliffhanger to be continued in the next book.
Two exiting things before I even opened the book. This is a new author for me and I am honored to be able to read the first book in a new series.
Lily and Daisy are identical twins on the outside, but they could not be more different on the inside. Lily is the quiet one and Daisy makes noise enough for both of them and where twins normally have an unbreakable bond, these two girls are most certainly not the best of friends and there are only two people to blame for that.
Whilst trying to make an honest income, they find themselves in a few seedy and even outright dangerous situations. The question is: how will they handle it without landing themselves even deeper in it or is this wishful thinking?
For me gangland crime stories have to be brutal and I honestly have to say it was maybe all a bit to soft for me. I missed the vicious boss and the scheming, with twists and turns that make my head spin. But on the other hand I also have to admit, the book intrigued me and I had a good time reading it.
I also had the feeling this was the warming up and I think and hope the heat will be turned on in the next book. So, yes, I cannot wait to find out where the second book will take me and I can only say this story had an I-want-more kind of vibe.
This book gets a well deserved 4 stars, because at the moment it misses a bit of pizzaz for me, but I have the feeling the author is going to open a can of spices to add the next ones.
Thanks for this ARC It was certainly left on a cliffhanger............ there may be more to come, i wonder?. I couldn't wait to read this, and i wasn't disappointed. Identical twins Lily and Daisy have a singing talent and are constantly pushed by their dad Dez, to make money as he owes a lot of money and thinks the girls are his get out card...... When they get a job at Edens' nightclub as a singing act, Lily is overjoyed, Daisy not so much. Their parents have always favourited Lily over Daisy, Daisy rebels...... An instant attraction between Daisy and club manager Mackenzie could have dire consequences. Like what??? This is gritty, a great storyline, something that kept me hanging on wanting more. I would highly recommend. Great job!!!!!!.
I don't think I've ever read any gangland-related books told from first person perspective, so I found this interesting.
The story is told from several characters' points of view. Daisy and Lily's perspective - a pair of identical twins who have been pitted against each other by their parents their entire lives, McKenzie - a man involved in the gangland dealings, but getting out of his depth in the club that the twins have recently started working at, and a few chapters from the twin's father's perspective.
The story is a slow-burn plot and written well and the ending is paced for the next book in the series to pick up.
This is the start of a gangland series about twin sisters Daisy and Lily. Their Dad is trying to live out his dreams of his band making the big time by pushing the girls into a singing career. Lily is the golden child who can do no wrong and in his eyes Daisy is the complete opposite and the bane of his life. I did find the story very slow to start with but it starts to pick up towards the end. I will be reading the next book to see how it goes. I give this book three and a half stars.
Oh My Goodness the beginning of this book blew me away.
The two main characters are twins Lily and Daisy. Kennedy. Being identical is the only thing they have in common. Lily loves to sing and be in the limelight, and Daisy rebels. It was a great story but if you were expecting fireworks it unfortunately fizzled out. I wouldn't say it was gangland-related, but it has its moments.
I found that it was like reading the words to a play with each character reading their own part. I don't know how someone could think this is a readable story especially when there is no real ending, don't waste your money & time their are better books to read than this.
Kennedy twins Lily and Daisy in this new series. Father Des forces them both to perform in the nightclub Edens. This is one full on gangland series with a great start. It's so unputdownable you will get hooked. Gripping right through. I loved it
This author is new to me, but I did enjoy the book up to a point. The story left us up in the air at the end, so you will have to read the 2nd book to see what happens. I will probably read it to continue the tale.
What a total bore had high hopes when I started reading the first few chapters. At Chapter 20 finally decided to give up as it wasn’t gritty gangland as promised. Storyline was far from interesting sorry not for me.
Sadly too much swearing right from the star was a definite off put to read more. In my opinion it’s totally unnecessary and unwelcome. However I do appreciate others will find it acceptable.
really enjoyed this book until near the end as the story line became unbelievable. I’m sure parents would tell their twins apart and gangsters release a hostage with no explanation. until this point i love it and would have given it 5 stars .
What a let down after her other series of books Strung out and never coming to a actual story I wont be reading any more of this series unless I am trying to get to sleep
I decided to step outside my normal reading choices with this one, and I am glad I did.
Double Trouble by @stephanieharteauthor is a mystery/thriller about identical twins Lily and Daisy who recently scored a gig at live music club, but have also found themselves in the middle of a drug ring that is currently experiencing some hard times. They don't realize just how much danger they are in until Lily mysteriously disappears.
This book is written with multiple alternating perspectives, most prominently: Daisy, their father Des and the club manager MacKenzie. It does jump around a little bit, but is mostly chronological and fairly easy to follow. I liked the slow reveal of information, but am not a huge fan of drug related crimes - really any crimes, I'm a bit of an easy scare haha, but I survived this one just fine. I did like the relationship between Mac and Daisy and the strained family dynamics of the Kennedy family. Overall it was a really interesting, multi-perspective story that came together in the end and left me thinking about this strange club and this interesting cast of characters long after I put the book down.
Thanks to @netgalley and the publisher @theboldbookclub for giving me the chance to read and review this one!
Like I previously mentioned this type of book is not my usual go to, but I must admit it was a great read! This book is full of action and starts with a bang!
This book is not in my usual genre - I'm such a "RomCom" girlie - But something about the cover and synopsis intrigued me to give it a go - the twins on the cover reminded me of the Sweet Valley High twins - Jessica & Elizabeth, and that also piqued my interest.
This book is definitely my more my sister's type of novel, she loves a Martina Cole book...but after reading, I may have to widen my choice of reading genres!
I loved both girls equally, even though they are totally different even though they are identical on the outside!
The book is written from multiple perspectives which I really liked, and the violence and blood-spill is not over the top or overwhelming which I found quite refreshing - as this is what usually keeps me away from these types of books - not a huge fan of severe violence, just for the sake of it.
As a first book of a series, it really doesn't disappoint, as you really get to know the characters and the relationship/family dynamics - It finishes on such a cliff-hanger that will made me desperate for the next book!
It's not a book I'll forget in a hurry, I can tell you!
Double Trouble by Stephanie Harte is a new gritty gangland series that was brilliant. Like all Stephanie's books they have always been a page turner and this one was no different. Its full of twists and turns that have you hooked from beginning and to the end!
Daisy and Lily Kennedy are identical twins and have different personalities. They are a singing duet and their life is about to change dramatically, when they get a gig at live night/music club called Eden, which is run by renowned Samson Fox along with manager Mackenzie. This club is hard to get a music gig in and once you are in you're in! Little did they both know they also found themselves in the middle of a drugs ring and it is currently experiencing some hard times. But, how much danger they are both in? especially Lily as she mysteriously disappears!
WoW Then, Bang it Ended! Nooooo I want more! Noooooo It can't end like that!!!
Excellent! and I highly recommend this book. Looking forward for the next book in this brilliant new series.........
Big Thank you to Netgalley and especially Boldwood Books for my ARC!
I have read lots of Stephanie Harte's books and I looked forward to reading Double Trouble the first in a new series (the Kennedy Twins),
The book is based upon the twins Lily and Daisy, their tumultuous relationship with their parents and their budding singing careers that is starting in a club. Daisy gets mixed up with someone from the club and Lily gets kidnapped and I'd normally expect to find out what happened to explain the plot of the story. Sadly this didn't happen. I suspect that the next book or two in the series has already been contracted and the story has been split into chunks almost. Double Trouble had an oddly abrupt ending that was quite disappointing. Yes, I will read the next book but it just felt like an unusual way to end the book as this hasn't happened in any of Harte's books before that have been part of series.
This is my first book by this author and I wasn’t disappointed. Daisy and Lily Kennedy are identical twins but that is where their similarities end. Two very different personalities. They are a singing double act who get to have a spot at nightclub Eden which is run by renowned Samson Fox along with manager Mackenzie. When Daisy finds herself involved and dragged into the more unsavoury side of things she soon realises that she has brought trouble into their lives and both girls could be in real danger. I liked how this was written from different perspectives, although mainly Daisy’s. It gave a real sense of how each character ticked and you’re able to get a much better sense of their personality. A great read and I’m looking forward to the next one
I really enjoyed this book! The twins were interesting characters and hope to read more about them. Definitely more to the sad - why he behaves as he does.
Thaaaaat ending though 😳😭. You will be forgiven though Stephanie… when the next book comes out. I’m hoping there will be a follow up book ?! 🤓🤓
A mystery thriller set around a set of twins. What could be better. Loved how the story developed and had you gripped from the start. Thank you @thebold book club for the copy I really enjoyed it.
