This one is more dangerous then any other so far.
I think Kishimoto will be cold from displaying all her assets in all chapter opening pages, but who am i to complain right?

“Gantz” is becoming a fun way to pass time. There’s nothing of value going on here, but it’s probing around in my lizard brain in all the right ways. If I were 13 years old, I would think this was the coolest thing ever. We’re still relying heavily on “boobs & blood” and the concept is still very much like an old school video game platformer. You survived that level? Cool. Now do it again, only with more difficult enemies. This volume even concludes with one of our protagonists coming across the “level boss”. Again... this isn’t revolutionary, it’s brain candy.

The second hunt continues and what's more than one pesky alien?
A whole flock of Pesky aliens!
Plus : Poor Grandma🫣

The illustrations for chapters are basically now Kishimoto in various states of undress...

Another solid fun volume though the villain is the least interesting of them all. As I said earlier I love gantz. I read up to volume 12 when younger and watched the anime a few times. This hunt in particular is one of my least favorites though there are good moments. This time the villains turn out to be BIRDS! Yes. Birds who can tear your insides out by screaming in your ears. Kei still doesn't have a suit so it's time for Kato to step up.

What I liked: Loved the death of a certain character. They tried to humanize him some, and it worked, but I was kind of glad he got what he deserved after all that big fucking talk. Also the fight between that person and the bird man was sweeeet. The part with the gangsters getting their heads popped off was great too. Also, boobs!

What I didn't like: The death of two other people was kind of overkilled. Also no reason for that one person to be naked. Felt weird. But naked people in this series is a normal thing so I should have known. Also the bird villains aren't scary or any humanity to them like Onion man so they just kind of bleh.

Overall it's a fun volume just not great. THat's okay, not everyone volume will be amazing and I can live with a decent volume here or there!

So the bird aliens are really fucking weird, and they are also kind of pathetic, which makes it difficult to actually root against them. Especially given the new batch of recruits are a pack of assholes. So it was nice to see one of them get his head exploded. The progression of the battle is also weird, proceeding in fits and starts, as the characters bicker, and try to escape the situation without playing the game. It was also nice to see the veteran die, and the scene where his eyes get blown out was great. 3.5 stars, and this series is starting to come together. It's got a lot of flaws, and plenty to criticize, but I'm enjoying the ride.

Well, the second mission kicks off with a new set of recently-deceased. The Tanaka alien is even weirder than the onion alien. There appears to be some Japanese cultural references here that are obviously lost on me. We actually get more backstory/focus on the two main boys here - again, showcasing their contrasting personalities. I'm rather interested to see them "grow" as they take their drive and rationalisations in different directions. The deaths this time around are a bit more tragic (and one that was somewhat pathetic and a bit deserving).

This is a review of the entire series.

Synopsis: Gantz tells the story of a teenager named Kei Kurono, among others, who die but find themselves brought back in perfectly healthy bodies and forced to participate in a "game" where they must hunt down and kill aliens.

Review: I almost gave up on Gantz several times, but now that I've read it all the way to the end, I'm glad I stuck with it. The beginning is dragged down by repulsive and unlikable characters, a messily paced story, unnecessary sexualization and gratuitous violence without much substance. As it progresses, however, the character development becomes pretty incredible and the growing threat of the enemies feels truly well done. Once the real enemies are revealed, it's mind-blowing how the series had been secretly foreshadowing their arrival from the very beginning.

Although it takes a while, some really good characters are introduced later on in the series and they're the ones that made me want to read to the end. Some characters that were absolutely unbearable in the beginning became polar opposites of their original selves and even made me sympathize with them quite a bit. The protagonist Kei for example, I hated him with all my heart for the first third of the series, he became progressively more likable in the second third of the story and then he evolved into one of the most memorable, unlikely heroes I've ever seen in this storytelling medium throughout the final third. The last third of the series is unbelievably terrifying with some of the most gruesome and disgusting battle/survival scenes in the history of fiction. It's much more bearable and intense in the final third because this time the violence and horror is happening to people we actually care about instead of a bunch of unlikable nobodies.

The final third of the story is what made me feel so glad that I didn't give up on this series. It had me on the edge of my seat more times than I can recall. There are a ton of chapters but they're very short and full of action which makes the series a quick read despite having almost 400 chapters. So even though the first third of the story was kinda bad in my opinion, it doesn't last for long and the payoff that comes after it's over truly impressed me. It's a flawed, thrilling and horrifying action series that takes a while to kick off. When it finally kicks off, however, it kicks off extremely hard.

Me pareció mucho mejor.

Volume 4: Chapter 35-46
Phase 1: Missions
Arc 2: Tanaka Alien Mission

The mission started! Nishi is dead fighting the Tanaka Alien. Kato and Kurono managed to defeat the alien. But, there are tons of the aliens need to be defeated before they completed the mission. Kurono directly bumped into the main boss. Damn! He have no suit to protect him!

Art was phenomenal, the scene with the grandma and her grandson made me cry. But I guess this is better than them living for longer, because they would've either had to fight through a ton of these games or the little kid would have died at some point trying to tell someone back home what was going on. Harrowing to read.

While battling Tanaka alien, the alien player (called 'Nishi') dies. While dying he mentions something about getting 100 points to be freed from the games.

There are more than one Tanaka alien. They look like birds outside the Tanaka robot. There are so many of them because they come from eggs laid by a bird guy. That was the last panel in this volume.

The series seems to be getting better. There is a group that seems caught up in a life and death game chasing aliens in some alternate location. The group begins to try to figure out the rules of the game in this issue.

Kei is suitless and there are many Tanka/bird aliens to be killed.

This was a good action volume. Kishimoto finally does something other than stand around half-naked which is appreciated. Poor grandma and kid - not a good story for them.
