The Obsidian Mirror is a mysterious tale set in a small Mexican town. Quigley, an archaeologist, is not prepared for the surprise appearance of the son he has never seen. Michael wants nothing from his father. But when one of the two girls with whom Michael entered San Marcos is murdered and he is accused of the murder, the elder Quigley is forced to take action. The Aztec past, so familiar to Quigley, intrudes into the decision he must make to save his son's life.
I read this for class at Ohio University in 1977 when it was first published. The class was called The Ohio University Writers. We read the works of Daniel Keyes and Walter Tevis among others. Mr. Norman taught at OU at the time. I remember feeling guilty that I thought it was terrible because I wasn't getting it. Then the professor teaching the class walked in and apologized to us for making us read it.
this small press book by a practically unknown writer turns out to not be all that great! you can't win em all i suppose. the line drawings of aztec artifacts at the start of each chapter look quite nice though.
