Abomination

Rate this book
On the surface, eighteen-year-old Jesse Cardiff leads a charmed life. He’s cute, popular, about to graduate high school with honors, and his father is one of the wealthiest men in the country. Only one problem mars what others perceive as Jesse’s perfect, privileged life. Jesse is gay. Unable to come out for fear of losing everyone and everything, Jesse satisfies his need for intimate male companionship with nameless strangers in a series of anonymous one-night stands. But that all changes when Detective Scott Griffin, a fourteen-year police veteran, winds up at a gay club on an eighteen-and-over night to douse the pain of a tragic loss. Their fateful meeting leads them both into the dark recesses of the cultish “ex-gay” culture of Reclaiming Eden Cathedral, where the only choices are to go straight or go to hell. __________ Abomination is a 62,500-word gay romance novel.

I need to mull this one over some more. The religious fanatical church group and "gay" intervention camp, was conveniently tied up near the end and not everything is resolved, where are the rest of the boys? I suspect a sequel is in the works. I kept trying to find fault and digging for problems, there were a few that stood out, The age gap of 15 years plus between Jesse and Scott was fine, I could work with that and I liked them as a couple, even if it was a fast sex, love relationship. I was skeptical about Scott an undercover detective revealing his undercover op to Jesse, a big no-no especially to a one night stand, there were extenuating circumstances, but I still found it a stretch. Cole, Jesse's older brother and protector, what happened to him? I was sure he would have come to the rescue in some way, I was expecting him to appear as he was supposedly important to Jesse, unfortunately he was a no show in this story. Maybe I'm nitpicking but this could have been so much better, the length probably contributed to the shortcomings.

Great start, great middle, meh ending.... I really like this book and I love the authors skill. I just think that everything fell a little too neatly and with no resistance. Would love to see sequels so that all the "boys" can tell their stories. Thanks for a fun and sexy read!

3.5 stars. I'm not usually someone who has much of a problem with age disparity, and both men were of age, but when one MC is still wearing a school uniform (literally) and the other is starting on the downhill journey to 40... It felt skeevy and, plot-wise, there really was no need for the MC to have still been in high school. *winces* There were a few cringy moments devoted to our cop MC as well but they didn't reach the bad taste level of him fucking a kid he'd just stripped out of his school uniform.

This is a good story with shiny heroes, and completely evil villains. Abomination explores the world of gay conversion camps where gay teenagers are taught how to act masculine so they re-claim a heterosexual life. There is angst and some amazing coincidences which help drive the plot. It's all good until the end which is rushed and has an unbelievable element. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes male/male romances.

Slightly sketchy with rather simplistic plot finale, but generally an okay read.
