Demigods of San Francisco [Dramatized Adaptation] #1

Sin and Chocolate [Dramatized Adaptation]

Rate this book
A broody, broken god and the dark secrets that could destroy us both.

Kieran is here for revenge. He's here to kill the most powerful man in Magical San Francisco— his father. He'll destroy anything in his way.

And I've managed to catch his eye.

I live in the shadows for a reason, split between the worlds of the magical and the mundane. I'm a punching bag for both societies, but with the magic of Hades, it's the only way to stay alive. To stay free. If the powers that be knew what I was, they'd slap me in a cage and make me their weapon.

I have to stay away from him...except the very look of him promises deliciously wicked sin. He's a man you want to taste. To savor, like decadent chocolate.

He's also incredibly powerful, and broken. Dangerous.

I can't let him use my magic. It would destroy the life I've struggled so hard to build. I certainly can't fall for the villain, no matter how good it would feel.

If only it was easy to walk away.

4.0 ★— I remember reading this book ages ago and only vaguely recalled the storyline, so when I found out this series had been adapted as a Graphic Audio, I didn’t hesitate to dive back in!

And while I had fun with it and enjoyed the story beats, I don’t think the voices were a perfect fit for me.

Kieran, the MMC, had a voice that felt a little too… underwhelming? He’s a god, a son of Poseidon, so I expected something a bit more melodic or commanding.

Furthermore, the FMC’s voice felt just a tiny bit too valley girl-ish for my taste.

That said, I did get sucked in after a few chapters. This is pure paranormal, urban fantasy fun — perfect for when you want some mindless entertainment with an easily digestible storyline and romance. I enjoyed it for what it was, having it on in the background as I went about my relaxed Sunday.

It didn’t blow me away, it’s not original in the slightest, and it’s not some amazing piece of literature. But for what it is, which is a fun, light fantasy story with some humor and romance, it did its job well!

Graphic Audio do better

I didn’t reread with my eyes like I should’ve, but the amount of editing just angers me! People that have never read this series aren’t going to get all the nuances and depth for each character that makes readers love them. I’m disappointed that GA decided to edit so much of this book/series 😐.

Original review:

Here’s my review for the ebook

I always feel sad that graphic audio “a movie in your mind” cuts out parts of the original ebook, but man… I hate that some of the sexy tension gets cut out 😒. I was following along with the ebook and I gasped at lines that were cut out: when Kieran says some 🔥 things to Alexis 😐. Ughhhh

ALSO… the BIGGEST thing that bothered me is that the actor for Kieran doesn’t sound Irish 😒. In fact, he initially sounds British 😐😒. Ugh

I still really enjoyed it, but it lost a star for that 😒

‼️‼️‼️The graphic audio is HORRENDOUS! I DNF at 80%!
IT COMPLETELY CHANGED THE CHARACTERS AND THE VIBES OF THE BOOK. It was cartoonish and made into a comedy. They changed so much that I had to DNF. Keiren and Alexis were completely different characters. ALOT was edited out when it came to their romance to.
HORRIBLE. It’s a completely different book if you do the GA! Be warned‼️‼️‼️‼️
It’s like they used the books as a guideline and put their own artistic version out there. The GA DOES NOT REFLECT THE BOOK GOOD.
His voice and her voice were not good either didn’t match their characters at all.

So…..
This my review for the book and the original audio books which was a 5 STAR SERIES FOR ME!
This amazing series was COMPLETELY DESTROYED in the GA.

🌟Brief Summary:
This is a review for the entire 6 book series!!!

♥️This series is so underrated! I loved it like the entire series. It’s my new favorite and definitely a reread many times over in the future. It’s has everything and is so well balanced. This series has my heart and I will stand by the fact that for romance lovers, fantasy readers and safety readers as well it’s a must read.

✔️On point romance!!!!! No OPD no messing around with to much push pull, obstacles? Yes but these two are it for each other and we get to see them fall in love, grow and work together to defeat their enemies.

✔️Amazing cast of characters! I loved them all! EVERY SINGLE ONE! And that’s rare for me.

✔️Natural witty banter that isn’t trying to hard.

✔️Found family with cozy feel good family vibes.

✔️Urban fantasy world with magic and action.

✔️Characters who grow and change as the series progresses. I love taking the journey with them.

✔️A series that gets better with each book. I would say book 1 was my least fav and it just gets better from there. Also the first few chapters were a little weird to. I promise if you get past they it just gets better and the series as a whole is amazing!

Book 1 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
My least favorite cause it’s got the least romance but it’s needed to build the world and characters and is still highly entertaining and I love it. The romance is really lust based on this one but by the end there are definitely feelings starting to grow!

Book 2- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Amazing! The romance has taken off! And the story and characters continue to grow closer as well as her magic! Sexy times happen to🥳

Book 3- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love! Our couple is SOLID! the sexy times are hot 🔥 and the face off with Valens is underway!

Book 4- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Now that they have defeated Valen new enemies emerge. Alexis is super rare and powerful and lots of demigods either want to control her or kill her. Keiren is trying to protect her at all costs.
😤 mild very mild OWD- Keiren has to flirt w OW to get info. He uses a trickle of his Selkie magic to get rid of her. He definitely handled this situation wrong. But he doesn’t want OW or do anything other then feed into the OW desires. She touches his arm and kisses his cheek. I didn’t like this scene at all or think he needed to go to these extremes but it was a learning lesson and he doesn’t do it ever again. Also it was a fast quick scenes and he was not enjoying it. She was a pest to him.
😭There is a few very emotional scenes in this one guys be ready!!!!

Book 5- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This series gets better and better!
New characters join our crew. Keiren and Alexis are stronger then ever and damn do they love each other. He loves her soooo much ♥️♥️♥️. We find out more about who they can trust and who they can’t…. But can they really?

Book 6- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
😭😭😭😭Why does this have to be over? I’m so sad… 😭
I love this series so much.
Ok so we definitely get a HEA but I wanted a epilogue that was just about Kieren and Alexis. I wanted their wedding and maybe a bit of life after the events wrapped up. I definitely think this book has less romances cause they are solid and working through some politics. I would have like more of them together. I did enjoy the fight scenes and seeing all the demigods and I like the twist at the end a lot.

🔪 Daisy -15 her ward and family

🐺 Mordecai- 15 her ward and family

☠️ Bria- a spitfire and amazing friend to Alexis

🔪Red-

🪨Jerry

⚡️Dylan

☠️💕Harding

⭐️Team 6-
Jack
Donovan
Henry
Bowman
Thane
Zorn

🥀 Hero:
Keiren- late 20 demigod
Powers from Poseidon and Selkie sex magic

♥️This guy is the definition of swoon! He’s strong and powerful but only vulnerable for and with the h! Ugh he’s so loyal and devoted and in love♥️ he solid and constant once the romance gets going he never runs from his feelings for her.

Keiren is a HOT 🔥MFer I love him.
-So he’s slow to the take at first I would say after book 1 is when he really shines in the romance swoon department.

-He extremely loyal to those he cares about and that’s a small number of people.
He’s powerful and looking to avenge his mother’s death and mistreatment. He wants to take his dad down!

-He’s NOT a Manwhore 🥳… experienced yes and maybe was a playboy in his youth but we don’t hear about or see him w anyone. We don’t know his sexual history.
-He’s NEVER slept In a bed with woman. He hit it and left. 💯
-He’s NEVER loved a woman or been in a relationship 💕
-He’s NEVER used his Selkie magic on a lover- 1 time when he was young he tried it and HATED how it controlled the OW so he never did it again till the h cause she can handle his magic ‼️

🦋 Heroine:
Alexis- mid 25 Ghost whisperer and other

-She is a strong woman who takes care of her two teenage wards. One non magical and a shifter who is deathly sick. She works hard to maintain their life and stay under the radar. 💕
-She has been taught to stay off the magical worlds radar she isn’t exactly sure why but she trusts her mom. ✔️
-She definitely has good principles and priorities. She is likeable and as she learns more about her magic and life she is good with rolling with the punches and doing what she has to for her wards. 🥰

-‼️She has an Ex who’s bar she goes to for free drinks. That guy is nothing he barely makes an appearance and there was no live there.

-💕She’s experienced sexually. No real history but she def had Multiple partners and says it has been a few months since she was last with anyone.

-As the series progresses she grows a lot and gets a lot more powerful.

💭 POV:
For the h first person
For everyone else third person
Mostly Alexis and Keiren POV

😡/😍 Angst level:
The whole range at different times but overall not overly angsty

❤️‍🔥 Sex & Burn Rate:
Book 1 - First kiss 77% with some mild fingering- no sex
Book 2- 40 something percent first sex scene.
Rest of the series has an average of 2 sex scenes per book.

🔥Loads of hot tension and chemistry throughout the series and a great build ups

🔥🔥🔥🔥 great sex scenes with lots of magic and intimacy!

🌓 Push/Pull:
Only mild and only in the first 2 books
She is unsure of him and dating a demigod
He wants to protect her

☠️ OW/OM Drama:
Mild OWD in book 4-
Very very mild OWD- Keiren has to flirt w OW to get info.

-Throughout the series both have OP who want them and flirt with them but neither are interested or receptive.
Both are very faithful to each other.

🤮 OW/OM Sex / Fluid or DNA Exchange:
None

🤬 Cheating:
None

👰🏼‍♀️ Virgins:
-Neither are V
-Both definitely experienced
h- She says it’s been a few months
H- No info on H last time- experienced but def not a Manwhore.
-Her ex gives her free drinks at his bar out of pity. There is nothing between them.
-Neither with ANYONE after meeting not even a desire for anyone else or interest

⛈️Separation/ 3rd Act Breakup:
None

🎧AUDIO
The ORIGINAL audio is amazing the narrator does such a wonderful job with the characters and emotions!

‼️‼️‼️The graphic audio is HORRENDOUS! I DNF!

Safety/Triggers🗡️:
No OPD
No sex with anyone after they meet
Death of a parent

🌈Epilogue:
No we get a epilogue for Daisy that will
Lead into he book I really wanted to see the wedding and get an epilogue for Kieren and Alexis even if only a few months after

🥂HEA:
Yes!!! ♥️ I did like the HEA they got

My opinion is just that… MY OPINION.❌

That wasn't what I expected, but that doesn't mean I should knock off a star...I really wanna. But it deserves it stars for being well written. The narrators were good. They acted the hell out of a makeout season! And it was like a movie in my mind. The plot, well, this book is a setting the scene book. All the characters and their current issues come together as their paths meet.
I'm not going to lie. I don't actually remember any of their names... wait no, the love interest is called Kiran! Oh well, I may not remember their names, but I've always been bad at that. I do know the different characters, and so far, the FMC is more developed than the MMC. So is Frank the ghost 👻
It's an easy listen, I may switch to the normal audio for the next one, though 🤔 maybe... we will see.
I enjoy the easy banter in the FMC, her ghost friends, and her wards. I liked the structure of the paranormal world, interesting with there being areas and mixed areas. It's all very intriguing. Maybe come back to this series. My mood is less slow build at the moment.

It was ok. The woman who voices Alexis drove me nuts. She pronounced all her t’s as d’s. “Important was impordant”. The whole way through, all words that contained a T, was changed to a D. It made me have to go back and listen to the unabridged version to cleanse my mind of it. Love this series and K.F. Breene.

This is a five star, repeat-read ebook but the dramatised audio… shudder.
The voice actors seem utterly wrong. Irish accents? Nope. Not even close.
Alexis is also incredibly more whiney than I imagined.
It was nice to hear the lines as the author intended… but overall I didn’t enjoy this anywhere near as much as I love the ebook.
The music in the background is appropriate but the kissing is stupidly loud. Off putting.

Basic Plot: Alexis struggles to maintain her illusion of a normal life as the poverty-stricken foster parent of 2 teenagers with issues, despite the fact that a chance run-in with demigod Kieran has left him curious about who and what she is.

This was a good start to a new series. I like this author, and this novel didn't disappoint. Alexis's situation is the poverty struggle bus, which sits right in the cracks between worlds. I've seen enough of that in real life to know how much it can suck for the people stuck there. The world Breene created only makes things even more tricky and complex, adding in magickal beings like necromancers, witches, selkies, werewolves, and of course, demigods.

The pacing was great. I didn't want to stop once I started. I loved the teenagers and their relationship with Alexis. They cracked me up more than once, and brought a lot of pathos to the story. Probably the character with the least depth was Kieran, but he didn't get a lot of screen time.

At any rate, this was a solid story, and I plan to continue the series.

I bought this series as the Dramatized version instead of the regular version ONLY because it was only 1 book each. Compared to their normal (cash grab scheme) splitting them into 2 or more parts, which I hate that they do that. I only want 1 book per book.
And because they were on sale. Otherwise, their prices are outrageous.

Pros to this version:
1. Each character has their own narrator, which is something regular audiobooks need to be doing.
2. The rearrangement of the scenes and paragraphs seemed necessary as the original writing seemed all over the place and the author should think about editing the original to match the dramatized version.

Cons:
1. They completely rearranged the whole thing. I can't follow along in the book.
2. Their "sexual" noises (moaning, kissing etc) are sooo fucking fake and just disturbing.
They did cut out most of the sex scenes which I was glad for because skimming through them, they seemed stupid.

@ THE COMPANY--- IF YOU ARE GOING TO REARRANGE THE WHOLE BOOK, U NEED TO COME OUT WITH A SCRIPT TO FOLLOW ALONG.

I loved this series when I first listened to it on Audible. And now there's a GA version of it? I couldn't resist reading it now that all the books are out.

And then I started listening.

I don't know why, but Kieran's voice sounded different from what I had imagined. The original Audible version gave him a thicker accent than what he got in the GA version. I can really only hear his accent on certain words or when he is emotional.

I still love this series and I'm excited to get through it. I am loving that GA is adding so many of my favorite series to their line-up.

Since this book focused more on Kieran getting Alexis to join him, not a lot happened in this. The most exciting part was either the moments was during the freak show when the beast tamers confronted them. Other than that, not much happened in this book. To be honest, I feel like this series could have been half the length it is but oh well.

Sin & Magic will be next. I am loving hearing Alexis try to deny that she will ever get into bed with Kieran, while knowing she will soon be jumping all in.

3 1/2 stars

I think the strength of this book lies with Alexis and her wards, Morty and Daisy. The kids are awesome and I really like the banter and love shared between their little family. Daisy is a smart little scrappy thing -- who wouldn't love her? The world-building is fine, though not very detailed at this point (to be fair, it's the first book.) We get the broad strokes of the magic system and hierarchy. For a story like this, I'm good with just getting on with the plot and learning as we go along.

My biggest complaint is how fast the relationship between Alexis and Kieran is progressing, especially given how wary Alexis is of him. I'm currently listening to Into the Darkness by the same author, and based on these two plus another book I've read by her, she doesn't waste time with a slow (or even medium) burn. I don't feel invested in the relationship between Alexis and Kieran at this point.

This was a really good book. The female protagonist was my favorite: She's tough, she knows what she wants. The love story is also really good, a nice slow burn, but that's it. It was great, I don't understand why more people don't talk about this book. The only thing I didn't like was that the female protagonist spoke in the first person singular, but the male protagonist spoke in the third person. But otherwise it was a really good book

So, it took me awhile to get into the story. At first I didn’t like the FMC’s voice actor(kinda whiney) and then realized it’s the same voice actor as Maizey from Crave series. It grated. I got used to it. The storyline picked up around 2 hours in and actually got more interesting. By 3/4 of the way in I was fully invested. I just started book 2 on my drive home tonight and bought the rest of the Graphic Audio books in this series. I like that there’s the three gods, Poseidon- Hades - Zeus, and a bunch of Demi-gods and their offspring, shifters and other magical and non-magical characters. I do really like that there’s FMC doesn’t just cave when there’s trouble or during tough interactions or when her backs against the proverbial wall.

K.F. Breene creates an intense fantasy / paranormal adventure where ghost whisperer and demigod seek a missing selkie skin, the skin belonging to the demigod's dead mother.

There's tension, there's lots of snark and back-talk, and yes, there's romance or I think there will be steamy romance, but not much in book 1. The tension is palpable between the ghost whisperer and demigod. If you like dramatized adaptations, you'll love this one from Graphic Audio http://www.graphicaudio.net Can't wait for book 2

K.F. Breene is one of my favorite new authors with lots of dramatized books out.
I love the whole movie style that dramatized books deliver.
So, I actually didn't love the beginning of this book. The main character takes some warming up to. Luckily, as the book plays out, she really started to grow on me. I especially love her 2 adopted children. They really add to the story. Kieran and his team are great, and I really enjoy the chemistry between all the characters. I'm excited to start the next book.

Could. Not. Stop. Listening. It was such a great story!! Alexis gave the BEST banter and was a bad bitch. The kids added such a heart warming part to the story. Kieran had me swooning. While there was very little romance in this one, the fire was building, and I know it is going to be molten when it happens! I cannot wait to listen to the next book.

Damn I don't usually DNF but that main narrator's voice is a killer. I'll need to find the unabridged version where someone isn't jamming sharp 's' and 't' sounds in a smoker's version of an annoying valley girl voice.

I'm over halfway through this book and I can see no plot besides a goddamn blanket. audio production the dull glitter coating a turd that is the way this thing is written.

A fun story. I always enjoy dramatized productions by Graphic Audio, but I am disappointed in the voice casting for the lead male. The actor who plays Kieran sounds like a posh, middle-aged rich guy instead of a sexy demigod. It's especially sad to me because three of my favorite Graphic Audio voices play his crew (Rayner Gabriel, Danny Gavin and Gabriel Michael).
