Of Gods and Pain, the sequel to Of Bonds and Daggers, brings us back to the grim world of the fae, where Nell's journey takes a darker turn. Abducted and lost in the shadowy corners of this mystical veil, Nell faces trials that test her strength and spirit like never before.

Meanwhile, Casmir and Emrys, bound to Nell by deep, complex ties, grapple with her absence. Their search for answers is as much a journey through their own haunted pasts as it is a quest to find Nell. In this world of illusions and hidden truths, even the closest bonds are tested.

The trio struggle to reclaim what was lost, navigating paths entangled in emotional turmoil and shadowed by an imminent threat. Through their journey, the narrative explores themes of resilience, the power of connections, and the enduring quest for hope amidst despair. The characters find themselves balancing the thin line between hopelessness and healing, as the looming shadow of a greater threat inches even closer.

Of Gods and Pain is the second book in a trilogy. It is an easy romantasy read, with light world-building.

Ugh another 5 ⭐️ read for me!!! I freaking loved this!! I NEED THE THIRD BOOK 😭😭 I’m obsessed with how the MMC’s are equally possessive/caring and understanding as to how the FMC needs to heal. The FMC is also a BADDY. This series is why choose !! Which I also LOVE. If you are looking for found powers, adventure, why choose, morally grey characters, mental health rep, strong FMC, BANTER… u gotta pick up this series!!!

I am quite disappointed 😞 the first book had promise but honestly the only reason this one is 2☆ is Xamira. If I had to read the words "Soul Bond" one more time I may have cried. Legit I felt like so much of the book was wasted repeating the same thoughts and feelings over and over again. WE GET IT ALREADY.
I pray the final book gives me some real plot and closure to this cause I can't leave the Trilogy unfinished but imma be skim reading if it's like this 😅

This book is non-stop action AND emotion. This book is one of the darkest I've read and I highly recommend reading the trigger and content warnings.

The characters open up about past traumas, but there is also gruesome torture in this book. That being said, I do think that it is well written, avoiding becoming straight-up torture porn.

Aside from that, the plot is very addicting and there is quite a bit of consensual spice in this book.

I think that Dakota handles writing the topics of trauma and trauma healing really well. Nell, the FMC, goes through a lot in this book and while her journey is heartbreaking, to say the least, her healing is inspiring. The support she receives from the MMCs is incredible, it's not always perfect, which makes it real, but it's so comforting to read when they get it right.

I'm looking forward to starting what I'm sure will be an action packed finale to this series in the third book!

This book was exactly what I needed after the first book in the most heartbreaking AND heartwarming way.

This book picked up right after the cliffhanger ending we go in the last one, and Nell is having just about as good of a time with Andras as you would think she is - not good. While what was happening to Nell was rough, it wasn't written out like other books I have read (looking at you Hunting Adeline , but still be sure to check the triggers).

The ending of this book had my heart so full and happy in the last chapter, but then the epilogue left me worried again. It's not a big of a cliff as the last book, but it is still a mild cliff.

I can't wait for the next book to come out in May!

I read this as an ARC
PLEASE check trigger warnings as usual!
Dakota definitely did it again with the second book of this series!
Nell went through so much, and yet again was such a badass FMC. It was nice to see her handle things and show her struggles instead of it being dismissed and as if it never happened. It really shaped her character, too.
Emrys and Casmir are some of my most favorite book boyfriends😍 They are so supportive and understanding with Nell. But they also use force when it's needed and the right time. Their building relationship is also just 👩‍🍳😘. I love how they compliment each other in the best of ways, and it gets even better with Nell. Plus the spice scenes are 🥵.
I can't wait for the third book.. LET THEM BE ALL TOGETHER DAKOTA! Thank you😂
And she is making us WAIT with that ending?! I'm so ready to get into the final book. The book is definitely 5/5 and spice is about 3/5.

This has some of the hottest smut scenes of any book I’ve ever read!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This series has the ability to engross the reader into a wild journey following Anellah, Casmir, and Emrys! There isn’t a single thing in this series I dislike. It’s full of drama, adventure, found family, and love conquering all, absolutely fucking magical!

I received this book as an arc and OH MY GOD. I had no idea what to expect from this book, but like the first of the series, I devoured it in a few hours! I stayed up late the night the author sent it out, and woke up earlier than I ever do to finish it. I’m going to be miserable at work today, but it was so worth it lol.

There was a lot of mental health issues and healing in this book; the author did an amazing job including this as a realistic and heartbreaking process. The three main characters go through so much, and it was interesting to read about people who are struggling differently and to see how people heal from different experiences. Everyone heals in different ways, and that was definitely a big theme in this book.
On the brighter side, there is still a good amount of spice towards the end of the book, which I always enjoy ;)

This book is extremely dark, and can be very triggering for some people, so make sure to read the TWs and prepare yourself before diving in. Though, if you can handle it, this book is very much worth the read!

Once again, Dakota is at it with an AMAZING STORY. I didn't think it could get better after Of Bonds and Daggers, but this blew me out of the water.. quite possibly my favorite read of the year thus far, and that is really saying something!!

Firstly, check TWs before reading.
This story hit me right in the feels. I was crying for them all at different points throughout.. but the happiness I felt watching them work through their traumas and empower one another. 😭 Nell is everything. What she went through was so hard. I loved how Dakota didn't write her as an FMC that goes through trauma and in a day is just over it. We got a look into her mind and soul as she worked through these things and even when she tried to hide from them. She reacted sometimes in ways that weren't fair to her bonds, but she realized that and worked on it.

Emrys and Casmir... My loves. They are so opposite in some ways, but so perfect together. They balance each other, and in turn, Nell, so well. We got such a deeper look into them in this story, and it made me love them even more!! Watching them cope with it all, come to terms with certain things about each other (swoon), and them open up about their pasts. They both love and care so deeply, and I loved getting to know them both even better. I love these "insufferable males"

I can't ever forget about Xamira.. my favorite. She is such a rock for all of them. Unwavering support and loyalty, she is always there. I love her so MUCH.

This story had me smiling, laughing, crying, and angry all at different points. It's not often a book really makes me feel the emotions so deeply like this, but Dakota's ability to not just tell you a story, but make you feel it, is such a gift she possesses. I loved this story, and I can not wait for the next book... Though I don't ever want this series to end, honestly.

I've been so desperately awaiting the return of our two males and goddess! Book two brings so much pain, so much heartache, but so much reward and love. My heart broke with Cas and Em when Nell was taken and it broke even more as she endured so much pain. This book unpacks A LOT of trauma for our Goddess and Captain and it's heart wrenching, but so worth the read!

Nell truly is a brave soul, even when she is so close to breaking she finds the strength to keep going. We finally get to see a little more background on Em and where he comes from. I love that even though both Em and Nell have been through so much they are able to take that pain and turn it into a strong love with their bonds.

There are some pretty good spicy scenes in this book as well. I love the deep passion that they all share and I am so proud of Cas and Em and their newly stated desires.

Please be sure to check the TW, this is a highly emotionally packed book and can be very heavy. Despite the depth I can't wait to see Nell's decision and how they (hopefully) defeat Andras!

Yes, yes you want to read this book!!
(Welll idk, I mean if you like dark& twisty as much as I do, and you love seeing your favorite main characters grow and deal with their trauma & heal then yea you'll like this one! )

This is the second book in the Curse of the Gods trilogy so be sure to read book one before jumping into this one!

The way Dakota writes is enchanting! She makes you feel what the characters go through. This book will make you cry, laugh and want to break something. It is heartbreaking what the characters go through but seeing them come together and have each other to help them heal is everything. Casmir is laid back and holds everything in, Emrys is tough but he also wears his heart on his sleeve. Nell to me is everything you want in a FMC she is authentic, strong, brave, and determined. The trials she faces are brutal but she continues to fight her way through. That cliffhanger though, ahhh, I can't wait for the third book to come out!!

This book is the definition of heavy so be sure to read all the TW!

A heartbreakingly powerful story of survival and unwavering love. Of Gods and Pain by Dakota Monroe moved me to tears. Seeing Nell (the FMC) endure insurmontable pain and self-doubt made my heart ache for her and her bonds (Cas and Em) that ached to find her again. Once Nell realizes that she is the one who holds all the power she will break free of the chains holding her back. A Goddess righting the wrongs of Europa.

The character arcs are realistic for the characters and Monroe’s writing makes you feel as if you personally know these characters in real life. I’m invested in this story emotionally and I absolutely love Monroe’s writing style.

Romantasy isn’t always my jam, but when this author is writing it, it always will be. Picking up where we left off from book one, our girl Nell is in some big trouble.

After horror upon horror, torture after torture, she’s given an out… sort of.

Our heroine plays pretend with the best of them in order to save herself and get back to her bonds. (Who are going absolutely out of their minds by the way).

I love the character development we are shown in this book more than anything. The dynamic between Em and Cas has been changing in the best of ways and seeing the two of them come to reality with who they are and what they mean not only to Nell but to one another is *chefs kiss*.

After finding her way out Nell returns to her soul bonds and begins to find a way to take down the evil that captured her and stop the plans he has in motion.

As much as I’d love to go on I really am trying to be as spoiler free as possible here. I love this trio (and Xamira) so much and I cannot wait to see how they manage to conquer what is to come.

Please keep the trigger warnings in mind when picking up this book. It is much darker than the first! Remember that everyone deals with trauma and healing differently, and we absolutely see that with Nell.

Poor, poor Nell... Ugh, my heart hurts for her. Literally the first 50% of this book is so much suffering and it's impossible not to feel everything she is. Just when you think that it's over, it's not. Eff that ex-god Andras, and I hope that he burns in the pits of the underworld.

That being said, this is a great follow up to a stunning first book in this series. I love the relationship between Cas and Em, and that we finally get to see that flourish. This is a unique telling of three people being bonded and I absolutely love how Cas and Em finally get their moment together. It was hinted at in the first book, but to finally see it come to life, I'm so here for it.

This book does not leave off on a cliffy, not that I mind, but I still need the third book. Just saying.

This book is HEAVY. Please read trigger warnings. There is a lot of trauma in this book as well the healing process.
Not just Nell’s trauma after we see what she goes through at the hands of Andras and Imogen but we also learn the horrific past of Emrys.
This book is written so well, the way Dakota pulls you in and makes you go through so many emotions during this, you really feel for our 3 main characters. The healing that Nell goes through is such a good, realistic take that we don’t always see in books, she goes through the stages and shows how everyone deals with their trauma differently. Which is a huge part of the book.
I LOVE that we got to see the bi awakening of our sassy fae males in this one as well.
“Do you enjoy the sight of your prince on his knees before you?” 🥵🥵🥵🥵

Needless to say I cannot wait to see what happens in the third book. I will be impatiently awaiting its release!

This is the second book in the trilogy, The Curse of Gods. I was an arc reader for the first book and was amazed by the story. So naturally when the lovely, Dakota Monroe, was looking for arc readers for the second book I had to try.

You know how sometimes sequels are a let down? Well, this one does not disappoint. This book is heavy. Very heavy moments which for some may need to step back from, and that is okay. Warning content about child abuse, abuse and rape within the story. I love the drama within the story. Casmir and Emrys are still some of my favorite book boyfriends. Emrys being the man of action ready to burn the world and everything in it for who he loves. And Casmir being the more logical cool side of the pillow. One of my favorite throuples. 🥰🥰

This book didn’t disappoint and I’m waiting for the final book to drop this year. You can get access to this book February 29th, 2024 through kindle, Amazon, or her website.

I absolutely loved this book. I had high hopes going into it after reading book one Of Bonds and Daggers, and Of Gods and Pain did not disappoint. Dakota has a beautiful way of writing. Spoilers ahead if you haven’t read book 1.

Of Gods and Pain follows Anellah after she has been captured by Andras. Her pain and suffering during this time is heartbreaking.
Anellah finally finds her way back to her bonds Casmir and Emrys, the way these 2 men give her the space and time she needs while still being supportive of her trauma is beautiful. Anellah is trying to figure out on her own how to deal with and how to come back from what has happened throughout her life.
Overall this was a 5 ⭐️ read. The spice in this book is 🔥. And when it comes to Emrys and Casmir 🥵.
Highly recommended this series but as always check your trigger warnings

Of gods and pain 5⭐️

The second book in the series is on a whole new level. I was on my toes the whole time reading this. It definitely is a page turner!!

This book was well written and fast paced which I enjoyed!!
It also had some well written spicy scenes that capture the passion that all share and as well as great character development.

It’s inspiring to see how strong Anellah is through her experiences in this book and how she is able to overcome the heartbreaking pain she endured. I’m glad we got to see Emrys back story and find out why he is the way he is and how much he has grown throughout his life.

I’m excited to see how the next book will unfold as we are left on a cliffhanger with so many unanswered questions.

There is some triggering content in this book that is not suitable for all readers, so I advised you to read the trigger warnings at the start of the book!

If the first book sent me over, this one absolutely devoured me! The connection between Nell, Em, and Cas is so unbelievably soul wrenching, but definitely in the good way! I truly wish I could be a fly on the wall during their exchanges, or even better, if I was Xamira! Goddess, Xamira is absolutely badass and everyone needs their own Xamira! The storyline is so smooth and Dakota never runs away from the plot. I, also, finished this book in one day just like I couldn't put down the first book. I'm so envious of Nell because of how strong she is and the bottomless support she gets from those who truly love her. To be loved the way that those three love each other is a dream that can only come once in a lifetime! If I haven't convinced you yet, the smut in this book just gets better and better each time. Like, fifty shades of grey who??? Nell, you are one lucky woman...

Arc review! I received this to arc read for this author and oh my god I was just blown away. This is a sequel in the trilogy series The curse of Gods. This book is heavier then the first one so be warned and check those trigger warnings your mental health is important. I just love Cas and Em, they care and help Nell so much it’s adorable even tho they could slaughter you in a second. Watch out for that cliffhanger ending! I can’t wait for the third book!! :)

I just don’t even know where to begin, it’s a lot to unpack. A lot happens to our characters in this book. I swear my brain glitched by the end. However, I loved being able to read about the growth in our characters bonds and relationships between the three of them. I still chuckle every time I read the dicktonary. The world building and character building in this book is phenomenal. You definitely can feel the emotions of the characters on page. Trigger warning must be read. Our fmc goes through a lot in this book. It’s not easy. This book definitely kept me on my toes and makes me ready for the third book.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is the second book in the Curse of Gods trilogy. It is a lot darker than the first book, which I wasn't really expecting. I thought the first part of this book, when Nell is being kept by Andras, lasted forever. I felt so much anger for Nell and the situation she was in, and I was so happy for her when she escaped.
So much of this story is based around Nell's imprisonment and then her recovery from that experience. There's a lot of healing and character growth from Nell as she deals with what happened to her.
I look forward to reading the final book in this series because I want to see Andras taken down and eradicated.

🖤ARC review🖤

Ahhhh this book!
It started off right where book one ended and took me on a dark tale. It was heartbreaking to read what Nell was forced to suffer through. Heartbreaking to see how Em, Cas and Xamira were struggling with Nell being going and still trying to listen to her order not to come after her. This book had me all sorts of emotional.

Some good came later on, the bond between Em and Cas growing to a new level, loved that! I loved getting to hear more for Xamira too. Nell is such a strong woman, goddess, and deserves so much more than what she has had to go through!

The ending! I absolutely can’t wait until book 3 is out!

This books is now all three POV. Which I liv, you get to know more of Casmir and Emry. You learn how each feel and their past more. But honestly at one point Nell gets on my nerves. I understand why she acting the way that she is, but still it's like. Don't be a child right now like for real. I was getting so irritated with her. But it's still such a great book!! It's a lot more trauma with this books. So FYI! You actually learn so much more about each character and I honestly love to get that POV more now. Because I understand them more now. I'm now going to start the last book in the series!

This book ripped my heart out, shattered it, & put it back together. The FMC is absolutely my all time favorite FMC I have ever read. Nell is a force to be reckoned with. The MMCs are perfect together and will forever live in my head. Emrys is definitely my main MMC crush. This book was a very heavy read but very much worth the painful story. Dakota is a magician with words and takes you into a story so deep you forget you’re not actually there. I cannot wait for book three to be released in May.

This book picked up right where we ended with the first book.

Now, I have to say, I enjoyed this book but not quite as much as the first one. It was exciting, emotional, heartwarming, and sad all in one but I did feel like at some points I just wanted to yell at Nell or that I wasn’t able to get into her story as much.

This book does end in a cliffhanger and I am going to read the final one to see how it all ties together. Just hoping to be drawn in like the first book again.

Ehhhhh.

I really loved book one, but book two was very drawn out. It had just enough material to keep me interested at the beginning, but over 65% of the book is the FMC trying to recover from what happened to her at the end of book one, being rude to everyone around her, lying, then apologizing constantly. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. It got very hard to finish and the ending was very anticlimactic. Anyway... onto the third book! I hope it picks up from here. I really enjoy the characters and the world itself.

I’ve been hooked on this series since the first chapter of the first book- the character building, the trauma & events the characters endure is outstanding. The connection between Xamira, Cas, Emrys & Anellah continues to surprise me, the love and support they show each other while dealing with their own traumatic experiences is so inspiring!
This book leaves us on a cliffhanger, but what good book doesn’t !
