A Life For A Life (Wahida Clark Presents)

After spending nearly a decade behind bars, Drako finally had something to smile about. His mentor, Toney Domacio, had taught him the workings of the underworld, and Drako was primed to take advantage. Along with his girlfriend Diamond, a new home, flashy cars and millions being thrown his way from his longtime friend and Red Rum Records CEO, Wiz, most would be content. But Drako still wasn't satisfied. In his mind, he deserved everything that Wiz had, and more. He was determined to play da game raw and make his millions, by any means necessary. This obsession with wealth culminated into a lucrative white collar scheme. Suddenly, things began to unravel. Wiz, who had employed Drako as his chief of security, endures media and federal scrutiny in the aftermath of death of a rival rapper. Diamond is becoming more and more nervous about the Feds catching on to Drako's schemes. But all the while Drako still has plans that must be carried out- plans that won't allow anyone to stand in their way- No Exceptions! This is a story of love and hate, trust and betrayal, life and death, all revolving around hip-hop, business, federal agents, gangstas, and inmates to bring about a shocking, dramatic conclusion. It is a tribute to those who understand that sometimes, in order for one to survive, another must be buried. It is, for all intents and purpose, A Life For A Life. Raw Reality

It's been ten long years since Drako has been in the presence of his Diamond. Tucked behind the wall, he's had to adapt to his current circumstances. It's also where he earned the respect of hardened criminals who helped to educate him on prison survival, while grooming him for a huge takeover. Now with his Diamond nestled by his side, he's on top and destined to stay there.

Wiz's world is filled with bottle popping, video chicks, bling-bling and he eats up all of the attention. It's been ten years in the making and Red Rum, his music empire, is blowing up all over. He's happy that his best friend Drako and his girl Diamond will finally be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor. With chart-topping hits, the mogul is making magical moves. With him on top, the world is his oyster.

A LIFE FOR A LIFE by Mike Jefferies is a major hit! The story is chock-full of sex, drugs, envy, money, supremacy, jealousy, greed and love. The core love story between Drako and Diamond is powerful and endearing. It's the backbone of the entire story as you're also wrapped around the glitz and glam of the hip-hop industry. While I am thoroughly sold on Mike's talent, I'm disappointed with having to wait for the follow-up to find out how the treachery hums along.

Drako and Diamond are both released from the federal penitentiary after completing ten year bids. What was supposed to be their last lick ended in handcuffs for the lovers but it did allow for their partner Wiz to get away free and clear. During his incarceration Drako falls under the tutelage of the infamous mobster Toney Demacio. Toney teaches Drako how to play the game raw, this newfound knowledge is passed on to Wiz and eventually becomes the blueprint for Red Rum Records. Wiz’s gratitude towards Drako and Diamond for never implicating him has turned into undying support. Giving up the drug game Wiz pursues his initial dream of starting an independent record label. By the time Drako and Diamond are released that independent record label has evolved into the multi-million dollar Red Rum Records.

Not only has Wiz taken care of Drako and Diamond throughout their incarceration he has
set them up lovely upon their release with a mini mansion, luxury cars and one million
dollars in cash. Wiz employs Drako assigning him as the head of the security for Red
Rum Records and promising him a salary so lucrative that he’ll be able to live off of it
and never touch his mil. Although Diamond is ecstatic Drako is peeved and feels as
though Red Rum Records is fifty percent his and Wiz is belittling him by asking him
to be an employee for him instead of the full partnership that he deserves. Masking his
resentment Drako accepts the position but sets out on a mission to accumulate his own
millions, enough money to secure that him and his Diamond will forever shine.

With his ride or die Diamond following his lead Drako throws bricks at the penitentiary
risking both of their newfound freedom. Meanwhile Wiz is totally blinded to the
dissention simmering in his own camp. But that isn’t the only threat to Wiz’s reign on
top because the good life has made him oblivious to other threats as well. When the truth finally surfaces Wiz is ill-equipped to deal with it especially upon the realization that
Drako is no longer a trusted ally. With A Life For A Life author Mike Jeffries explores
the detrimental way in which close bonds can be severed when either an intentional or
unintentional slight is felt by one party.

What did you like about the book?
I enjoyed the relationship between Drako and Diamond. Diamond’s loyalty to Drako never wavered even when she knew that she was jeopardizing her freedom for money that they really didn’t need.

What did you dislike about the book?
I felt the conflict between Drako and Wiz could have been avoided if Drako conveyed his displeasure over Wiz’s paltry attempt at compensation. Drako admitted that he wasn’t sure if Wiz’s slight was intentional yet he still treated him as if it was without ever finding out if in fact this was the case.

What could the author do to improve the book?
Be careful when using colloquial language. Also, the author should pay attention to verbs and tenses, and be consistent with them.

Mike Jefferies did the thang in A Life For A Life. Love the characters: Wiz, Diamond, Drako, Tony, Damien, there are others but, these are the main ones. My boy Drako is about his bigness and yes, Wiz did him wrong. Drako & Diamond did a bid and left Wiz outside when he could have gone inside also. Tony really saved Drako's life in the joint and he was ever in debited to Toney. Getting read to start reading book 2. I hope Drako & Diamond can live happily ever after. I doubt it though.

This was a good read not very fast paced for me but I like the character Drako and I can't wait to see what goes down between him and Wiz.
