As heir to Ardinmuir, Connor MacKean had one job: fulfill the marriage pact that's held his family captive for three-hundred years. Except his sister's the one who took the plunge, and now there's nothing standing in the way of him finding a real and lasting love. Nothing except the fact that the object of his affections has never seen him as anything more than her best friend's little brother.
A hard-working Cinderella who doesn't need a prince
The last thing Sophie Cameron has time for is a man. Her days are full keeping her flower shop afloat, expanding the event planning business she opened with her best friend, and keeping the promise she made to her late father to take care of her stepmother--even though Lorraine is more like a stepmonster.
A fake engagement that's more real than either of them bargained for
The little white lie Connor told a former fling to escape his playboy reputation becomes a necessary reality when she shows up as maid of honor to plan a wedding at the estate. As a huge social media influencer, she could make or break Ardinmuir as a wedding destination, so Sophie agrees to pretend to be Connor's fiancée. But as the lines between fiction and reality blur, Sophie begins to wonder if he's the answer to the fairy tale she doesn't think she deserves.
Kait Nolan is a RITA® Award-winning Mississippi author who calls everyone sugar, honey, or darlin', and can wield a 'Bless your heart' like a Snuggie or a saber, depending on requirements. She believes in love, laughter, and that tacos are the world's most perfect food. When she's not writing, reading, working the evil day job, or wrangling family (both the two-legged and the four-), you can find her obsessively watching The Great British Bake Off.
I enjoyed this just as much as I did book one in this series. The audio done by Will Peters was absolutely fabulous and brought my enjoyment up a notch. His Scottish accent was sexy and his voices for the different male characters were quite distinct. Bravo!! I was less impressed with Mackenzie Cartwright’s narration, but that seems par for the course for me where female narrators are concerned.
This was the story of Connor MacKean and Sophie Cameron. We met them both in book one as Connor is Kyla’s brother and Sophie is her best friend. I liked the humor that was laced into the story. It was good to see a lot of the characters from the previous books, but it wasn’t anything overwhelming because everything was explained really well. I’d say this could stand well on its own if you hadn’t read the previous installments to the series. Even though this was a “fake engagement” story, it had a unique feel for me. I liked that there wasn’t a long, drawn out period of the two MCs lost in their own heads about how it wasn’t real and denying/dismissing their true feelings.
While there was the formulary — and much abhorred — third act break-up, it didn’t feel contrived and I liked the way it was resolved. There was groveling, even though it wasn’t necessary, and a grand act of love that I thought was quite swoon worthy. The audiobook contained a bonus epilogue that wasn’t in the book. I appreciated its inclusion since it clarified some things that weren’t previously addressed. I’m looking forward to continuing the series!
I adore this series! Sophie and Conner are so sweet! And their lovely story is full of yummy romance tropes: playboy, Scotland, Cinderella, cohabitation, forced proximity, fake engagement, escaping reputation, interracial romance, childhood friends, sister's best friend, best friend's brother, blacksmith, he falls first (I especially like that last one!) Thanks for the list, Kait ;) And Kait has a delightful talent for connecting her series, which is so satisfying for a fan. So watch for crossover characters. I read an ARC and am happy to offer this honest review.
Rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for giving my two cents. We met Connor previously as the heir who was part of the marriage contract set up by his ancestors. However, with Afton leaving and gambling away her share to Raleigh, it opens up a life of possibilities now that he has his freedom. One a NYE party in Edinburgh, he sees Hamishs wife lip-locked with he sisters ex...omg. He them tells Hamish and wasn't overly surprised as things haven't been good for a long time. But another surprise was running into a former fling at New Years, Swayze...and he tells her that he's engaged....to Sofie...his sister's BFF and business partner. He's had a thing for the quiet woman who he's known all his life. Sofia has a mtg with a potential wedding client but the mtg turns confusing when Connor comes into the house and lays a hot kiss on her. What on earth is going on? Connor had some explaining to do but that kiss was fire and even better that Sofie responded but now to come clean. Connor explains the situation and she agrees to be his fake fiance but their family has to know. Sofie lives in her father's home with her evil stepmother who makes her do everything. She is patiently waiting to move out....14 years is a lot of time. After their 1st "date" Connor has had enough of the evil stepmother and confronts her. Connor has been keeping secrets from everyone well except Raleigh bc he found out. He is scared of rejection and everyone sees him as a playboy. Wedding planning and flowers keep Sofie busy and her mind off sexy Connor. Real feelings are developing but there are forces at play that making it hard to trust. Will Connor prove he has changed? Will sofie trust the process? Great book by Kait!
I just love this series in Scotland! If you have read the previous books, you will remember Connor was supposed to marry Afton to save their estates. That didn’t happen, so before Afton even left Connor had made a reputation for himself as a playboy. Connor, Hamish, Afton, Kyla and Sophie had all grown up together. It was sad that Connor had resigned himself that he had to marry Afton when he had feelings for someone else. It was funny how Connor got himself in a pickle and ended up telling an old acquaintance that he was engaged to Sophie. The things that poor Sophie had to go through were ridiculous. I was glad once she agreed to pretend to be Connor’s fiancé Sophie let him in more to help her. I don’t think anyone in their small town liked Sophie’s stepmother as she was a real piece of work. The sad part was that Sophie was the kindest, loving, and giving person around. Don’t even get me started on the landlord of her flower shop. There were other characters that had a profound affect on Connor and Sophie. I loved hearing about the estates and some of the history. Connor and Sophie’s love affair touched my heart in so many ways. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
✨Scottish Romance ✨Small Town ✨Fake Engagement ✨Best Friend’s Little Brother
This book was so cute! I loved the writing style and that you could hear the Scottish accents as you were reading the book! 🥰
Connor & Sophie have been friends for years, since Sophie is best friends with his sister. Connor was always promised to another woman based on a long standing agreement, but once that fell through, the only person he thought of was Sophie. Connor was a playboy, so one night he runs into a past fling and instead of saying he wants interested, he says he’s fake engaged to Sophie. Sophie is caught off guard, but plays along and as soon as they kiss, sparks fly. But, Connor has a past with his flings and sometimes to gets too much for Sophie. Add in her horrible stepmother and it becomes a lot for her.
In the end they get their HEA and it was just so cute. I love that this was a Scottish romance and it was just so cute! 😍
5 Star review Playboy In A Kilt (Kilted Hearts #3) by Kait Nolan Having read and loved the first two books in Kait Nolan’s latest series I could not wait to read Playboy in a Kilt, which is Connor MacKean and Sophie Cameron’s story and what a wonderful addition it was. It was wonderful being back in Ardinmuir, Scotland. This story was everything I was hoping for and so much more. After meeting both these characters in the previous books I could not wait to see what Ms. Nolan had in store for Cameron and Sophie. Cameron and Sophie have known each other for years and there has always been a connection between them but thanks to a marriage pact Cameron was always tied to an arranged marriage, until he wasn’t. Add in that Sophie is his sisters best friend and business partner and she should be off limits. When Cameron pretends that Sophie is his fiancé to get rid of an old flame, he has no idea how he has complicated their lives. What follows was an entertaining, passionate journey as these two friends become lovers as they cross lines that were never meant to be crossed. Every time I finish a book in the series I have a new favorite and I am excited to see what happens next in Scotland.
I adored Connor. He’s a bit of a numpty with interpersonal relationships, but he’s got a heart of gold. I loved Sophie, but it was difficult to witness how much time she spent as a doormat. I loved seeing how fierce Connor was when he was defending Sophie, even if it wasn’t always the best response at the time. And it was so sweet to see her support his passion project and do everything in her power to help him turn it into something more. Their supporting cast did their level best to run away with the story, and they came close on a couple occasions. Where this book leaves them was absolutely perfect, but I’m itching to find out the rest of the story about Ewan and the mystery woman now. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
A love story set in Scotland? Yes, please! This book exceeded my expectations. It is definitely not a typical love story of boy meets girl and they live happily ever after. There is so much more involved with the story of Connor and Sophie. This is part of a series, but the author clearly explains the backstory of the characters involved and it can definitely be read as a standalone. This book covers romance, reputations, misunderstandings (of course!), second chances and, best of all, a great case of karma thrown in. I found myself cheering for certain characters throughout the story. I love every Kait Nolan book (and I’ve read them all). I can’t wait for more in this series! I’m hooked and am confident you will be too. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This series, which takes place in Scotland, doesn’t have the same charm and character that the author’s previous series (which take place in the South of the US) have. But they are still entertaining. This one needed the narration of Amy McFadden though - it’s not that the female narrator for this book wasn’t okay, but Amy McFadden has narrated just about all of Kait Nolan’s other books and she just does a brilliant job.
⭐️ 4.5/5. The 3rd installment of the Kilted Hearts series focuses on flower shop owner and wedding planner, Sophie, and former playboy turned heir of a Scottish castle, Conner.
I love how these stories each focus on a different couple, but you still continue learning about all the side characters! Also, it makes a great audiobook with all the Scottish accents!
This series is so good I'm really enjoying it and getting to know all the characters. I loved Sophie and Connor's story. He's cared about her for years but she wasn't aware. Through a series of events they end up in a fake engagement that quickly becomes more. It all makes for a very interesting read. I can't wait to read the next book.
I absolutely loved this book! MC’s Sophie & Connor! There’s growth and drama and such joy as well as some jerks throughout this book. I recommend Kleenex while reading. Great read for sure! Kait Nolan is so talented. This Kilt series is awesome! Can’t wait to read the next book! 💜💜💜
Another delightful offering from Kait Nolan, featuring Scots, castles, romance and the best friend’s brother. The story of Connor and Sophie is an easy read with likeable characters (and the notable villains), and a little Southern charm to round out the mix. Fairly clean by all accounts, so don’t let that concern you. I was given an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
In Playboy in a Kilt, Kait Nolan gives us a fresh take on best friend's brother, playboy with a heart of gold, fake romance tropes combined with a beautiful, strong, successful yet vulnerable heroine, set in a Scottish castle! It's Book Three in the Kilted Hearts series, populated with familiar characters but reads well as a standalone.
Full of sweet love, just enough steam, Scottish accents, blacksmithing, British baking goodies and an influencer from Eden's Ridge, this story is a wonderful change of pace.
Conner MacKean is working hard to improve and maintain the estate he and his sister share. More importantly, for the first time in his life, now that the ancient decree demanding a joining of a son and daughter of neighboring estates to marry or lose the estate, he’s free to follow his heart and pursue the love he’s always dreamed of. That just happens to be his sister’s best friend, Sophie.
Sophie, owner of the town’s floral shop, is working herself to the bone. She has her shop, her events business with her best friend, and dealing with her step-mother’s constant demands. There are things at work that she knows nothing about, but they keep her stuck where she is. When things come to a head, she finds herself seeking shelter in the MacKean castle.
I loved all of the characters, but the addition of southern social media influencer Swayze was brilliant. I loved seeing how she settled in and lent a hand wherever she could. It was brilliant. I wonder if she'll make future appearances in books to follow?
Will misunderstandings and information from trying-to-be helpful neighbors bring Sophie’s and Conner’s worlds crashing down about their heads? It’s definitely worth a read to find out. You won’t walk away from this book disappointed.
This is book three in this series, and while it can easily be read as a standalone, I think it would be better to read the series from the beginning in order to understand all that’s happening. There’s so much context that adds depth to the story and helps the reader understand the characters better. I understand that book four is in the works, and I’ll be honest, I can’t wait to read it.
I highly recommend this book, and the entire series.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
Good story! Connor and Sophie have known each other their whole lives. Connie could do anything because if the marriage pact and Sophie was living with her stepmom. What happens when Connor no longer has to worry about the marriage pact and doesn’t want to go back to his old ways? Can Sophie leave her stepmom and forget her promise to her dad? We can forget about Kyla and Ryleigh! They are about to have a baby!
Wow! I absolutely adore this series. What’s not to adore about love flowing freely, if not smoothly, in lovely Scotland? Connor’s past causes concern on Sophie’s part as her insecurities, thanks to her evil stepmother, make it hard to believe she can truly be loved for the sweet person she is. With her best friend’s help and an oddly supportive one of Connor’s former fling, they try to find their way to an enchanted happily ever after. What a great story this is! It’s one of those books that has you racing to finish only to wish it wouldn’t actually end so soon!
I received an ARC from the author and am leaving my honest review.
A fake engagement, forced proximity, sister's best friend romance! I enjoyed the other books in the Kilted Hearts series and decided to give this one a try. I'm glad I did, because Sophie and Connor's story is an absolute delight!
Finally freed from a centuries-old marriage pact that would have forced him to marry the heiress of his neighboring Scottish estate, Connor MacKean decides to give up his playboy habits and pursue Sophie Cameron, his sister's best friend. In truth, Connor has loved Sophie since childhood, when she spent lots of time playing with his sister (Kyla) at Ardinmuir, the MacKean's ancestral castle.
Sophie is now the owner of a flower shop in town, as well as a partner in Kyla's event planning business at Ardinmuir. She has little time for romance, but when Connor rejects an offer from one of his lady friends (Swayze) with a white lie about being engaged to Sophie Cameron, Sophie decides to go along with the ruse. She's always had feelings for Connor, and when he impulsively kisses her in front of Swayze, one kiss simply isn't enough. Sophie wants more. When Sophie's nasty stepmother (Lorraine) kicks her out of the house, Sophie accepts Connor's offer to move in with him at Ardinmuir. Close proximity leads to their first steamy bedroom scene at 60% in.
But everything is not coming up roses for our lovers. Lorraine colludes with Sophie's flower shop landlord, who evicts her from the premises. Connor fails to tell Sophie the truth about his trip to Inverness, where he meets with one of his former lovers in a high-end restaurant and is greeted with a kiss. That kiss is photographed by one of Sophie's friends, along with photos of Connor's subsequent arrival at the woman's mansion. When Sophie sees the photos, can she believe Connor's protestations of innocence? Will she forgive his lie about going to Inverness to meet with salvage suppliers? Can Swayze's intervention save the day? I'm not saying.
I enjoyed this story and the entire Kilted Hearts series. Connor has such a big heart, and the old greenhouse he restored for Sophie was a true labor of love. I look forward to reading more books about hunky Scottish heroes from this very talented author.
Connor is still getting used to no longer being one half of an arranged marriage pact. His playboy past isn't leaving him alone though. It's about to land him in hot water. Between having to hell one of his friends his wife is cheating and them meeting an old flame and trying to save hurt feelings - he's landed himself in a fake engagement!
Sophie has been besties with Connor's sister since they were kids. Connor was always just there and she always had a soft spot for him. But knowing that he could never get out of the pact, she put those feelings aside. But now her florist shop is in trouble, her step-monster is treating her like a slave and now...now, Connor wants her to pretend to be his fiancée.
Things go from bad to worse when the one time fling ends up staying in town to fine tune her besties wedding, the wedding that Sophie's company is coordinating. But the long time crush that Connor has been keeping for Sophie isn't the only secret he's hiding.
There are few Scottish set romances that I can truly enjoy, being a Scot myself. Some are twee, some are completely ludicrous. But this series is none of them. The characters I can truly believe are Scottish. The slang, the inside jokes - they all pass muster. Sure the word choice is sometimes a bit wonky to my ear but that's true if you're from anywhere else but West Coast of Scotland - all our accents jar outside of our own wee corner of the country lol!
Connor and Sophie are #couplegoals and even when Conner gets all protective over Sophie against her step-monster, he does it out of love, rather than trying to make himself her be-all-end-all. That stepmonster is truly a monster I was aghast when I found out the depths her hateful attitude towards Sophie had plumbed to.
Ewan is next up but I do hope Swayze stays around - I really enjoyed meeting the Influencer, she had a heart of Gold!
I’m LOVING this series, Kati Nolan is doin’ a truly braw job! 😁🏴
I must admit, when I read ‘Jilting the Kilt’ I wasn’t entirely sure I was gonna like Connor. My opinion of him changed pretty quickly when I read Cowboy in a Kilt and saw what his responsibilities and possible future had looked like, then in Playboy in a Kilt seeing things from his POV and getting a real insight into him made me like him a lot!!!
I liked that he didn’t stay close to home when he did meet up with women and got his thought process about his ONS and how he thought his life was gonna be after he married Afton. When all of that changed Connor was able to actually consider what and who he wanted and was free to pursue something more and for it to be real and meaningful.
Sophie… Lordy, I felt so much for her. Her stubbornness and independence were a double edged sword (something Connor would know about - there’s an in-joke there!!). Getting to see how her life was, how hard she worked then all she had to contend with in her private life was sad. Yeah, she had great friends but the gods, she dealt with so much alone without any complaining, she deserved all the good things Connor wanted to give her.
Connor’s mouth running was both actually kind of a blessing. Things progressed in a manner that Sophie got what she needed but just now how she envisioned things. This pair had a chemistry that they both tried to ignore. I loved Connor’s honesty about how he felt (until he **cked up).
I enjoy how this group has come together to make a family of blood & choice. Seeing everyone interact and catching up on the relationships that have formed so far makes for good reading. There were a couple of times that I was pretty peeved with Kyla and her attitude towards her brother and her opinion on what Sophie was thinking but not to the extent that it took away from the story.
We got a little more on a character from one of the future books in the series and I’m now really looking forward to Ewan’s book…. Think that’s gonna be an interesting one!!!!
Sophie Cameron spends her days running her flower shop, working with her best friend on their event planning business and dealing with a stepmother that treats her more like the help than a daughter. She doesn’t have time for anything else, especially a relationship.
Reformed playboy Connor MacKean finally has a chance at pursuing the relationship he’s wanted for years but never thought he could have. When he runs into an ex, rather than hurting her feelings, he announces instead that he is engaged.
When Connor’s ex turns out to be one of Sohie’s newest client’s, they’ll need to follow through with the fake engagement. But, what happens when it never really felt fake from the start?
Honestly, this series gets sweeter by the book! I’m completely in love with these characters and their small community. Sophie is such a people pleaser and I love that Connor was willing to stick up for her when she wasn’t willing to stick up for herself. He never tried to change her, just gave her the love and support she needed. And, I adored watching Connor come to terms with his newfound freedom, his feelings about being a contributor to his family and estate and his love for the secret he has been keeping from his friends and family,
Honestly, Playboy in a Kilt has so much love and sweetness that it is just a feel good story. All of the characters feel like family and add so much depth to the romance. Yes, there is a bit of drama and angst to keep things interesting, but the romances in this series always feel like they progress so naturally to me . . .with ups and downs and some bumps along the way making them feel very real, yet set in a small village in Scotland that feels like a quirky fairy tale at times. 5 stars!
And, a note to Kait Nolan . . . please give Swayze a book! xoxo
This is book 3 of the Kilted Hearts series but it's the first one I have read, I know how how how did miss the first 2 you ask? You will be pleased to know I have rectified this issue, as books 1 & 2 are sitting on my Kindle to read very soon. Kait Nolan gave me enough backstory of the characters that I did not feel lost in what had already taken place in the first 2 books so please be aware like myself you can read this as a standalone but I would always recommend you start a series at book 1. This is how our talented authors wish to tell us their stories. The backstory only had me wanting to read the past as it sounded like an epic start to the series.
Conner and Sophie have known each other all their lives as Sophie is best friends with Conner's older sister Kyla. I could feel the chemistry between them straight away in this very Cinderella-type fake engagement story set in a Scottish castle. It's full of a past playboy, insecurities, a villain, a vulnerable heroine, a caring Hero, an evil stepmother, and an ex-former fling.
It may be fake at first but you just know these two are perfect for each other, can they find the truth and open up to each other as their lives change and start to move towards their happy dreams?
This book had it all for me, I enjoyed every word as the characters were so perfect for each other and you could feel the love and respect coming from the way this story was being told to us. It was not only the main characters of this book I found interesting it was the ones that I believe have had their story told, but also the ones I believe will come in the future that had me excited as well.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
One of my favorite tropes is he falls first. This is such a wonderful story of that trope combined with several others and I couldn’t help but fall in love with playboy Connor! Who up until recently was arranged by a three-hundred-year-old contract to marry his neighbor. Neither felt anything for the other, but Connor did have feelings for Sophie Cameron. Knowing nothing could ever come of a relationship, he didn’t pursue it, but instead, dated as many women as he could until the bans were read on his upcoming nuptials. Since his sister had fulfilled the contract, Connor is now free of the marriage pact and able to follow his dreams for his future, and he chooses Sophie. Sophie has two successful businesses she runs, one with Connor’s sister Kyla. Sophie and Connor end up in a fake engagement relationship and she is surprised after knowing him for so long, how he suddenly makes her feel.
This is the third book in the Kilted Hearts series, and so far, my favorite! Connor has so many things to overcome in his past. His reputation, his hobby, knowing about the state of the family estate, and taking part in doing something about it. He is such a warm and caring man he hides behind the carefree, funny, and flirty persona he projects to all. I love the development of the relationship between Sophie and Connor. While it was natural, it still had elements of surprise and wonder. How much he loves her and wants to protect her melted my heart! These two work so well together. I’m looking forward to Ewan’s story next, but Connor will have a special place in my heart, always. I received an arc of this book from wildfire marketing, and this is my honest review.
As heir to Ardinmuir, Connor MacKean had one job: fulfill the marriage pact that's held his family captive for three-hundred years. Except his sister's the one who took the plunge, and now there's nothing standing in the way of him finding a real and lasting love. But as the lines between fiction and reality blur, Sophie begins to wonder if he's the answer to the fairy tale she doesn't think she deserves. I have enjoyed all the books in the Kilted Hearts series and this book was an equally fun read. Connor has always had feelings for Sophie but the marriage pact stopped him from acting on them. And now that he is free of the pact, he wants to show Sophie what she means to him. And what follows is an entertaining and fun journey as they go from friends to lovers and more. We got a sneak peak into the next book in the series and I cant wait to read it. Will happily recommend this series to all.
I loved, loved Sophie and Connor’s fake engagement, best friend’s brother, friends to lovers, long standing crush romance. This is a heartwarming and steamy romance full of lovable and relatable characters. I was feeling all the feels with this one - laughing, crying, swooning, teeth gritting, and cheering. Connor has known since birth that he would be required to marry Afton to fulfill the legacy contract and save his ancestral home. Despite this duty, he has loved his sister’s best friend, Sophie, for years. Sophie owns and the floral shop in town along with running an event planning business with her best friend. Once his familial duty is fulfilled by his sister, he believes he may finally have a chance with Sophie. When Connor tells someone that he’s engaged in order to avoid a one night stand, it results in a fake engagement to Sophie with a definite end date. Connor is hoping this will lead to more. And, of course, feelings rarely stay in the boxes you try to keep them in and fake soon becomes real for both of them. I loved the way Connor gently and lovingly showed that he saw Sophie for who she was, allowing her to make her own choices, and encouraging her to shine. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. Sophie and Connor’s journey to their HEA included sweet moments, steamy scenes, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, missteps, and heart squeezing love. I cannot wait to read more stories in this series.
Playboy in a Kilt by Kait Nolan, book three in her Kilted Hearts series, features Connor MacKean and Sophie Cameron; a fresh take on best friend's brother, playboy with a heart of gold, fake romance tropes combined with a beautiful, strong, successful yet vulnerable heroine, set in a Scottish castle.
Cameron and Sophie have known each other for years and there has always been a connection between them but thanks to a marriage pact Cameron was always tied to an arranged marriage, until he wasn’t. Sophie, owner of the town’s floral shop, is working herself to the bone. She has her shop, her events business with her best friend, and dealing with her step-mother’s constant demands. Sophie was one of the kindest, most loving, and giving persons around; so undeserving of the “Cinderella” treatment she was given. What follows was an entertaining, passionate journey as these two friends become lovers as they cross lines that were never meant to be crossed. Full of sweet love, just enough steam, Scottish accents, blacksmithing, British baking goodies and an influencer from Eden's Ridge, this story is a wonderful change of pace. I highly recommend Playboy in a Kilt to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Such an enjoyable read. I liked all of the characters in this book. Even the villains were satisfyingly villainous.
Sophie and Connor had such great chemistry. They both had an aura of shyness and vulnerability. The shyness coming from Connor was surprising based on his reputation as a playboy. Maybe it was only reserved for Sophie, and it was sweet in regard to their relationship.
I wish there had been a more detailed description of both Connor and Sophie earlier in the book. I know her hair was referred to as inky black. I could only make the assumption Sophie was of Indian decent because she mentioned her father called her mother his Indian rose, and the Indian food she prepared reminded her of her mother. This information also wasn't mentioned until well into the book.
Connor was described as muscular, with blond hair and blue eyes, and I believe that wasn't mentioned until well into the book. I actually had to page back in the book because I couldn't get a firm picture in my mind of what either of the main characters looked like.
I liked the way Shayla's character turned out. It was a pleasant surprise. When that unexpected twist came out regarding Lorraine, I loved that the village supported Sophie. I was also very happy about what happened to the villians in this book.
I would give this 4.5 stars. A sweet romance with a touch of steam that was low angst.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
#OppositesAttract #FakeRelationahip #BestFriendsBrother #SmallTown #ARC 4.5 STARS Book three in the series can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in third person from an alternating dual POV. Connor played the field relentlessly leading up to the arranged marriage with Afton to meet the terms of a centuries-old pact between their families. When the wedding fails to happen, Connor reevaluates who he might pursue once he has the right to choose who he would marry. It doesn’t take long for him to realize the person who has held his heart for years is his sister’s best friend, Sophie. I love that it is her name he drops when he lies about being engaged to fend off another woman’s attention. His heart knew way before his head. His past reputation is something he must overcome to have a future with Sophie, but he is determined to get the girl. Sophie is strong and determined to succeed. She has two successful businesses and a side of stepmother baggage. I love how Connor defends her and helps her when she needs it. I love how she sees him beyond the masks he has in place for everyone. He is so romantic with her it made me swoon. There is plenty of heat, some humor, and lots of friendship between them. I loved their story, and I am super-excited for the next book in the series where Ewan finds his own happy ending. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
I'm not going to lie, Playboy in a Kilt was highly entertaining, and I flew through it because it was impossible to put down. We have our hero, Connor, who had been contracted into an arranged marriage for a very long time, and now he's not. He's also a former playboy to boot with a heart of gold, so I really loved him. Our heroine is best friends with his older sister, and she's actually the perfect woman for him, but he could never do anything about it with that whole arranged marriage hanging over his head. Sophie's life is quite complicated, and while I loved her as well, I do wish she stood up for herself more especially when it came to her wicked stepmother as she deserves so much better in life especially since she's keeping a promise to her father no matter what. She's a hard worker which keeps her very busy so she really doesn't have very much free time & there's no love life to speak of because of that. Things take a turn in her life when she ends up playing the fake fiance to Connor because of his past with a former fling, and while it seems complicated, his little white lie was the best thing to happen to both of them. It's during this time they see that they really have quite the connection, but with everything going on (which had me laughing) made things a bit dicey at times. This story was amazing, and frankly, everyone needs it in their lives as it will leave you with a smile on your face like it did me so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
