If Hogwarts was more like Woodstock, and Voldemort was your childhood sweetheart turned abusive boyfriend...
Nora Sparrow couldn't be more at home in Helicon, the whimsical land of the muses, where she belongs. She is in love with Sawyer Snow, and she's never been happier.
But Maddie Salt, their best friend, is hurt and angry about the newly formed relationship between Sawyer and Nora. She can't help but feel left out, and she wants nothing more to do with them.
Agler Thorn finds himself jealous of Nora's new romance. When he's given authority over the tweens in Helicon, he makes it his business to try to keep Sawyer and Nora apart.
A bewildering sickness is creeping over the land, striking down muses, leaving them weak and unable to create. It seems obvious that it's the work of Owen, but the muses can't find him. He's out of reach, and they can't fight him.
Through all of this, Nora clings to Sawyer, the only perfect, stable thing in her life. She loves him, and she wants to make love to him. But after she and Sawyer are intimate with each other, everything changes...
V. J. Chambers writes about being inexplicably attracted to the dangerously alluring. Her works span mundane settings and fantastic ones. She writes about serial killers, cult leaders, werewolves, witches, for-hire assassins, zombies, space pirates, and regular everyday people.
She lives in Shepherdstown, WV, with her boyfriend Aaron and their cat Isis.
This piece of the series was so underwhelming to me. It started out pretty good, but the main storyline is that everyone in Helicon is getting sick and they can't figure out why or who's behind it. Nora and the gang, unsurprisingly, think it's Owen messing with them. There's only a short period of time where things seem worrisome, but everything wraps up so neatly and quickly, that there's hardly any time to wonder if they'll be able to fix things. It just seemed so rushed and I think I know why...
Nora finally gets it on with her boyfriend, Sawyer, and there is just so much sex in this book that it felt like the story was second to Nora and Sawyer getting busy.
This book was just so meh after the previous one being so good and I don't really feel like it moves the overall story along or makes any of the characters more likable, so it feels like a throwaway book to me. You could easily skip this one and I don't think you'd really lose anything.
This book had everything flipped on its head by the end. And involving Norse mythology like that felt forced and random. The author doesn't have a natural flow to connect ideas. But, I'm invested in the characters and I'll ride this out till the end.
I received a copy of this story from the author in exchange for a honest review.
I love reading about the characters in this series. The characters act like typical teenagers except they have special abilities and come from a mythological world. Overall great storyline from an entertaining author.
I frickin loved this book. It was different from any other book I'm reading right now. Miss Chambers truly has a literary voice that is all her own. I just can't wait to read the next book in the Helicon muses series.
And I'm done. I did not enjoy this book as much as the others in the series so far. There was too much sexual angst going on. I think I might come back to this series at some point but right now I am all done with teenage drama.
